A Survey of System Architectures, Privacy Preservation, and Main Research Challenges on Location-Based Services

  • Location-based services (LBSs) have become popular in recent years due to the ever-increasing usage of smart mobile devices and mobile applications through networks. Although LBS application provides great benefits to mobile users, it also raises a sever privacy concern of users due to the untrusted service providers. In the lack of privacy enhancing mechanisms, most applications of the LBS may discourage the user's acceptance of location services in general, and endanger the user's privacy in particular. Therefore, it is a great interest to discuss on the recent privacy-preserving mechanisms in LBSs. Many existing location-privacy protection-mechanisms (LPPMs) make great efforts to increase the attacker's uncertainty on the user's actual whereabouts by generating a multiple of fake-locations together with user's actual positions. In this survey, we present a study and analysis of existing LPPMs and the state-of-art privacy measures in service quality aware LBS applications. We first study the general architecture of privacy qualification system for LBSs by surveying the existing framework and outlining its main feature components. We then give an overview of the basic privacy requirements to be considered in the design and evaluation of LPPMs. Furthermore, we discuss the classification and countermeasure solutions of existing LPPMs for mitigating the current LBS privacy protection challenges. These classifications include anonymization, obfuscation, and an encryption-based technique, as well as the combination of them is called a hybrid mechanism. Finally, we discuss several open issues and research challenges based on the latest progresses for on-going LBS and location privacy research.

신입생들의 대학도서관 사이트에 관한 인식 (Perceptions of Freshmen Students on the Use of A University Library Site)

  • 본 연구는 이용자 교육을 받아 본적이 없는 학부 신입생들의 대학도서관 사이트에 관한 인식을 조사, 분석하였다. 연구는 한성대학교 학부 신입생들을 대상으로 하였는데, 자료수집과정에서 식별된 인식은 도서관 홈페이지의 부분별 기능에 대한 연구대상자들의 불확실성, 어려움, 혼란 의문점 등을 보여주고 있다. 연구결과는 도서관 사이트 이용과 관련, 신입생들의 부족한 관련지식 및 탐색기술과 더불어, 시스템 상의 미흡한 점을 보여준다. 이러한 발견 점을 토대로 이용자 교육 및 시스템 인터페이스 등의 개선을 위한 시사점을 제시하였다.

  • TV 대역에 나타날 수 있는 무선 마이크 신호를 검출하는 방안으로 전력 스펙트럼의 최대값을 시험 통계량으로 사용하는 방안이 최근 발표되었다. 이 방식은 시험 통계량을 임계값과 비교하여 우선 사용자의 유무를 판정하는데, 이때 임계값은 목표로 하는 오경보 확률뿐만 아니라 배경 잡음 전력 수준에 따라 달라진다. 따라서 잡음 전력에 대한 불확실성이 존재하는 경우 그로 인한 성능 저하가 발생할 수 있다. 이에 대한 해결책으로 본 논문은 전력 스펙트럼의 최대값과 최소값의 비율을 시험 통계량으로 사용하는 방식을 제안하고, 그 분석 결과를 제시하고자 한다.

Development of a software framework for sequential data assimilation and its applications in Japan

  • Data assimilation techniques have received growing attention due to their capability to improve prediction in various areas. Despite of their potentials, applicable software frameworks to probabilistic approaches and data assimilation are still limited because the most of hydrologic modelling software are based on a deterministic approach. In this study, we developed a hydrological modelling framework for sequential data assimilation, namely MPI-OHyMoS. MPI-OHyMoS allows user to develop his/her own element models and to easily build a total simulation system model for hydrological simulations. Unlike process-based modelling framework, this software framework benefits from its object-oriented feature to flexibly represent hydrological processes without any change of the main library. In this software framework, sequential data assimilation based on the particle filters is available for any hydrologic models considering various sources of uncertainty originated from input forcing, parameters and observations. The particle filters are a Bayesian learning process in which the propagation of all uncertainties is carried out by a suitable selection of randomly generated particles without any assumptions about the nature of the distributions. In MPI-OHyMoS, ensemble simulations are parallelized, which can take advantage of high performance computing (HPC) system. We applied this software framework for several catchments in Japan using a distributed hydrologic model. Uncertainty of model parameters and radar rainfall estimates is assessed simultaneously in sequential data assimilation.

COVID-19 사례를 통한 도시 내 비정상적 수요 예측을 위한 시계열 모형 파이프라인 개발 연구 (Time Series Modeling Pipeline for Urban Behavioral Demand Prediction under Uncertainty)

  • 도시에 많은 사람들이 밀집하여 살아가면서 기존에 예측하지 못했던 범죄, 사고, 감염병 등의 비정상 이벤트가 발생은 도시 내 이용자 수요에 영향을 미치게 된다. 이러한 불확실성(uncertainty)이 내포된 정보를 기반으로 도시 내 이용자 수요에 대한 시계열적 예측을 수행한다면 신뢰성 있는 결과 도출이 불가능하다. 특히, 2020년 초 발발한 COVID-19는 비정상적인 이동통행패턴의 변화를 불러 일으키며 시계열 수요예측을 어렵게 만들었기에 이러한 변화를 검지하고 이를 반영하여 정확한 수요를 예측 수행할 수 있는 방법론의 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 COVID-19로 인한 비정상적 이벤트를 자동으로 검지하고 예측하는 모형 파이프라인을 구축하였다. 이는 도시 내 다양한 분야에서의 불규칙적이고 비정상적인 이벤트로 인한 수요변화가 일어나는 상황에 폭넓게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

An Improved Combined Content-similarity Approach for Optimizing Web Query Disambiguation

  • The web search engines are exposed to the issue of uncertainty because of ambiguous queries, being input for retrieving the accurate results. Ambiguous queries constitute a significant fraction of such instances and pose real challenges to web search engines. Moreover, web search has created an interest for the researchers to deal with search by considering context in terms of location perspective. Our proposed disambiguation approach is designed to improve user experience by using context in terms of location relevance with the document relevance. The aim is that providing the user a comprehensive location perspective of a topic is informative than retrieving a result that only contains temporal or context information. The capacity to use this information in a location manner can be, from a user perspective, potentially useful for several tasks, including user query understanding or clustering based on location. In order to carry out the approach, we developed a Java based prototype to derive the contextual information from the web results based on the queries from the well-known datasets. Among those results, queries are further classified in order to perform search in a broad way. After the result provision to users and the selection made by them, feedback is recorded implicitly to improve the web search based on contextual information. The experiment results demonstrate the outstanding performance of our approach in terms of precision 75%, accuracy 73%; recall 81% and f-measure 78% when compared with generic temporal evaluation approach and furthermore achieved precision 86%, accuracy 71%; recall 67% and f-measure 75% when compared with web document clustering approach.

5G MIMO-NOMA 시스템 멀티 셀에서의 사용자 클러스터링 및 강력한 빔 설계 (Design of User Clustering and Robust Beam in 5G MIMO-NOMA System Multicell)

  • 본 논문에서는 5G 무선 통신을위한 다중 셀 다중 입력 다중 출력 (MIMO)-비 직교 다중 접속 (NOMA) 다운 링크 시스템에서 WSRM (weighted sum-rate maximization) 문제를 해결하기위한 견고한 빔 형성 설계를 제시한다. 이 연구는 채널 추정 행렬에 최악의 모델, 즉 SVOF (singular value uncertainty model)로서 불확실성을 추가함으로써 기지국 (BS)에서 불완전한 채널 상태 정보 (CSI)를 고려한다. 이러한 관찰을 통해, WSRM 문제는 BS에서의 전송 전력 제약에 따라 공식화된다. 객관적 문제는 해결하기 어려운 비 결정적 다항식 (NP) 문제로 알려져 있다. 객관적 문제를 효율적으로 해결할뿐만 아니라 최적의 송신 빔 포밍 행렬을 찾기 위해 ML (majorization minimization) 기법을 안정화시킨 견고한 빔 형성 설계를 제안한다. 또한 최상의 사용자 쌍을 클러스터로 선택하여 더 높은 합계를 달성하는 공동 사용자 클러스터링 및 전력 할당 (JUCPA) 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안 된 JUCPA 알고리즘과 함께 제안된 견고한 빔 포밍 설계가 기존의 NOMA 기법 및 기존의 OMA (orthogonal multiple access) 기법과 비교하여 총 레이트 측면에서 성능을 크게 향상 시킨다는 것을 보여주기 위해 광범위한 수치 결과가 제공된다.

인터넷 티켓팅 시스템의 사용과 만족에 영향을 미치는 요인 (A Study on the Factors Affecting the Use and Satisfaction of Internet Ticketing Systems)

  • With the development of information technology (IT), various information systems (IS) such as Web-based systems and mobile systems have appeared utilizing different technologies. However, recent studies on IS use and user satisfaction rarely account for technological differences among IS and environmental characteristics where IS are intended to be used. The purpose of this research is to investigate the determinants of the use of Web-based ticketing systems for cultural activities and to empirically validate their relationships. Environmental psychology suggests that human beings respond to external stimuli from environments with their emotions, and their emotional states influence human actions, e.g., IS use in this research. Applying environmental psychology to the use of Web-based systems in the culture and entertainment industry, we propose that web site characteristics first influence a user's internal state of mind (i.e., flow) and then the flow state influences the IS use. Studies related to the state of flow collectively affirm the key role played by the flow construct in shaping individual attitudes and behaviors toward IS. Users' flow states are captured by their shopping enjoyment, perceived behavioral control, and the level of concentration on the IS use. Referring to social presence theory, we have included such web site characteristics as content quality, context of web site, and community quality. In our research model, a second order construct is utilized to represent web site quality, because flow theory suggests that holistic experiences with web-based systems (rather than individual characteristics of the web site) are important in explaining the IS use. Further, we have included trust as another important factor influencing the IS use since business transactions on the web encompass higher uncertainty comparing to offline transactions. In order to test our hypotheses, we have conducted an online survey which results in 1,141 valid responses in the final sample. The data were collected from respondents who have experiences in Internet ticketing systems. Although it was a convenient sample, the sample represents a wide variety of user demographics. Validity and reliability of the research instrument were tested and research hypotheses were examined using PLS Graph 3.0. The results indicate that web site characteristics significantly influence the level of user concentration, user's enjoyment in shopping, and perceived behavioral control. Further, the use of Internet ticketing systems is influenced by users' flow states and trust in the web channel. User satisfaction is turned out to be affected by the use of Internet ticketing systems. Unlike extant research on the relationship between web site characteristics and its use, our study has found that, in the culture and entertainment industry, the impact of web site characteristics on IS use is mediated by a user's flow state. This finding has a practical implication that web site design should include as many features that enhance shopping enjoyment and concentration. Other practical implications of these findings and future research implications are also discussed.

지식기반 의미 메타 검색엔진 (Knowledge-based Semantic Meta-Search Engine)

  • 웹으로부터 사용자가 원하는 정보에 잘 부응하는 정보를 추출하는 것은 검색엔진이 갖추어야 할 기본적 요소라 할 수 있다. 그러나 질의어와의 패턴 매칭 방식에 의존하는 기존의 대부분의 검색엔진은 질의어가 갖는 애매성으로 인하여 사용자의 요구에 부합하는 검색결과를 제공하기가 쉽지 않다는 단점을 지니고 있다. 이를 극복하기 위하여 본 논문에서는 다음과 같은 5가지 과정, 즉, (i) 질의어 형성, (ii) 질의어 확장, (iii) 검색, (iv) 순위 재생성 및 (v) 지식베이스로 구성되는 지식기반 의미 메타 검색엔진의 기본 구조를 제안한다 영어로 구현된 웹 문서에 대한 모의실험을 통하여 본 논문에서 제안된 지식기반 의미 메타 검색엔진이 기존의 검색엔진(구글)을 사용하여 얻은 결과보다 좋은 결과를 보임을 확인할 수 있었다.

Self-adaptive sampling for sequential surrogate modeling of time-consuming finite element analysis

  • This study presents a new approach of surrogate modeling for time-consuming finite element analysis. A surrogate model is widely used to reduce the computational cost under an iterative computational analysis. Although a variety of the methods have been widely investigated, there are still difficulties in surrogate modeling from a practical point of view: (1) How to derive optimal design of experiments (i.e., the number of training samples and their locations); and (2) diagnostics of the surrogate model. To overcome these difficulties, we propose a sequential surrogate modeling based on Gaussian process model (GPM) with self-adaptive sampling. The proposed approach not only enables further sampling to make GPM more accurate, but also evaluates the model adequacy within a sequential framework. The applicability of the proposed approach is first demonstrated by using mathematical test functions. Then, it is applied as a substitute of the iterative finite element analysis to Monte Carlo simulation for a response uncertainty analysis under correlated input uncertainties. In all numerical studies, it is successful to build GPM automatically with the minimal user intervention. The proposed approach can be customized for the various response surfaces and help a less experienced user save his/her efforts.
