  • 클라우드 컴퓨팅은 인터넷 혹은 인트라넷 기반의 대규모 컴퓨팅 자원을 가상화하여 사용자가 원하는 서비스를 언제 어디서든 제공하도록 하는 컴퓨팅 패러다임이다. 이러한 클라우드 컴퓨팅은 시스템 환경 자체가 대규모의 데이터를 처리하며, 다중 사용자 접속 환경 기반이어서 시스템의 신뢰성이 중요한 요소이다. 본 논문에서는 클라우드 환경에서 발생하는 문제(사용자의 요구사항 변경, 자원 결함 발생 등)를 해결하기 위해 시스템 환경 내부의 자원 변화에 대처할 수 있고 결함 포용적인 신뢰성 기반 적응적 스케줄링 기법을 제안한다. 이 기법의 타당성을 검증하기 위해 CloudSim 시뮬레이션 환경에서 실험하였다.

Two-Step Scheduling Scheme to Support Fairness and QoS in DVB-S2 System

  • The use of an efficient packet scheduling scheme for a forward link in satellite communication networks is very important to support fairness for each return channel satellite terminal (RCST) and the service differentiations for user traffics. To support fairness and QoS for each RCST with service-level agreement (SLA), the Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) system in a satellite hub has to process packets with considering modulation and coding (MODCOD) and packet types. Although a DVB-S2 system with ACM scheme has higher transmission efficiency, it cannot offer fairness or quality of service (QoS) to RCSTs. Because the data are transmitted with high MODCOD in regions with clear skies, while data are transmitted using low MODCOD in regions experiencing rain events. In this paper, we propose a two-step scheduling scheme offering fairness and QoS to RCSTs, while minimizing a decrease in throughput. The proposed scheme is carried out performance evaluations using a computer simulation. As results of this simulation, the proposed scheduler was shown to support bandwidth fairness to an individual RCST, and provide a level of QoS differentiation for user traffics.

  • LTE 3GPP standard defines several QCI (QoS Class Identifier) classes to provide differential QoS, depending on the requirements of different user applications.These QCI values have been characterized in terms of priority, packet loss and delay budget. In spite of the availability of this robust QoS framework in LTE, there is no such scheduling algorithm that has its working principle based on this framework. The responsibility of fulfilling the user requirements, while satisfying the service class requirements is left upon the cellular service provider and it is an open issue at present. To solve this problem, we have proposed a MAC scheduler, which defines the priority of different users based on their bearer specification and provides desired QoS in terms of the achieved throughput through the resource block allocation based on calculated user priority.

Opportunistic Scheduling with QoS Constraints for Multiclass Services HSUPA System

  • This paper focuses on the scheduling problem with the objective of maximizing system throughput, while guaranteeing long-term quality of service (QoS) constraints for non-realtime data users and short-term QoS constraints for realtime multimedia users in multiclass service high-speed uplink packet access (HSUPA) systems. After studying the feasible rate region for multiclass service HSUPA systems, we formulate this scheduling problem and propose a multi-constraints HSUPA opportunistic scheduling (MHOS) algorithm to solve this problem. The MHOS algorithm selects the optimal subset of users for transmission at each time slot to maximize system throughput, while guaranteeing the different constraints. The selection is made according to channel condition, feasible rate region, and user weights, which are adjusted by stochastic approximation algorithms to guarantee the different QoS constraints at different time scales. Simulation results show that the proposed MHOS algorithm guarantees QoS constraints, and achieves high system throughput.

  • The critical problem of nurse scheduling in the hospital is determining the day-to -day shift assignments for each nurse for the specified period in a way that satisfies the given requirements of the hospital. As nurse scheduling involves many factors and requirements, manual scheduling requires much time and effort to produce an adequate schedule. A PC - based decision support system, developed in Turbo - C/sup ++/, for nurse scheduling was introduced. The system is composed of 4 sub-systems : 1) Entering basic information for each nursing unit : 2) Generation of an appropriate initial schedule and revised schedule for a given period, maximally satisfying each nurse's duty requests : 3) Provision of variety of statistical information, and 4) Help messages for each modular function. Icons and a mouse are used for easier graphic user interface and reducing the need for typing efforts. This system can help nurses develop quick and easy schedule generation and allow more time for the patient care.

  • Scheduling problems which determine the sequence of jobs are one of the Important issues to many industries. This paper deals with a single-machine job sequencing problem which has complex constraints and an objective function. To solve the problem, an expressive constraint description language and an automatic code generator are developed for our scheduling system. The user just needs to describe the scheduling problem using the constraint description language that allows to express both quantitative and qualitative constraints as well as an objective function in real world semantics. Then, a complete scheduling program based on constraint satisfaction technique is automatically generated through the code generator. Advantage of this approach is that models of the scheduling problems are easily developed and maintained because models ore formulated by using the language which reflects real world semantics.

Adaptive Scheduling for QoS-based Virtual Machine Management in Cloud Computing

  • Cloud Computing can be viewed as a dynamically-scalable pool of resources. Virtualization is one of the key technologies enabling Cloud Computing functionalities. Virtual machines (VMs) scheduling and allocation is essential in Cloud Computing environment. In this paper, two dynamic VMs scheduling and allocating schemes are presented and compared. One dynamically on-demand allocates VMs while the other deploys optimal threshold to control the scheduling and allocating of VMs. The aim is to dynamically allocate the virtual resources among the Cloud Computing applications based on their load changes to improve resource utilization and reduce the user usage cost. The schemes are implemented by using SimPy, and the simulation results show that the proposed adaptive scheme with one threshold can be effectively applied in a Cloud Computing environment both performance-wise and cost-wise.

  • In this paper, CPLD low power technology mapping for reuse module design under the time constraint is proposed. Traditional high-level synthesis do not allow reuse of complex, realistic datapath component during the task of scheduling. On the other hand, the proposed algorithm is able to approach a productivity of the design the low power to reuse which given a library of user-defined datapath component and to share of resource sharing on the switching activity in a shared resource. Also, we are obtainable the optimal the scheduling result in experimental results of our using chaining and multi-cycling in the scheduling techniques. Low power circuit make using CPLD technology mapping algorithm for selection reuse module by scheduling.

Periodic I/O Scheduling for the Storage of MPEG-DASH Video Servers

  • The proliferation of video streaming services has led to a need for flexible networking protocols. As a result, the Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (MPEG-DASH) protocol has emerged as a dominant streaming protocol due to its ability to dynamically adjust playback bitrates according to the end-user's network conditions. In this paper, we propose a novel I/O scheduling scheme tailored for the storage of MPEG-DASH-enabled video servers. Using the renowned rate-reservation (RR) algorithm and bulk-SCAN mechanism, our proposed scheme improves storage bandwidth utilization while ensuring seamless playback of streams with varying bitrates. In addition, we provide a mechanism for reclaiming the idle I/O time typically incurred while retrieving video segments from storage. Consequently, our scheme offers practical solutions for reducing the storage costs of MPEG-DASH video servers. With a simple cost model, we evaluate the performance enhancements achieved by our proposed I/O scheduling scheme.

  • Vessels in the world merchant fleet generally operate in either liner or bulk trade. The supply and the demand trend of general cargo ship are both on the ebb however those trend of tankers and containers are ins light ascension. Oil tankers are so far the largest single vessel type in the world fleet and the tanker market is often cited as a texbook example of perfect competition. Some shipping statistics in recent years show that there has been a radical fluctuation in spot charter rate under easy charter's market. This implies that the proper scheduling of tankers under spot market fluctuation has the great potential of improving the owner's profit and economic performance of shipping. This paper aims at developing the TS-DSS(Decision Support System for Tanker Scheduling) in the context of the importance of scheduling decisions. TS-DSS is defined as a DSS based on the optimization models for tanker scheduling. The system has been developed through the life cycle of systems analysis design and implementation to be user-friendly system. The performance of the system has been tested and examined by using the data edited under several tanker scheduling has been tested and examined by using the data edited under several tanker scheduling scenarios and thereby the effectiveness of TS-DSS is validated satisfactorily. The authors conclude the paper with the comments of the need of appropriate support environment such as data-based DSS and network system for successful implementatio of the TS-DSS.
