  • Smartphones are important platforms because of their sophisticated computation, communication, and sensing capabilities, which enable a variety of applications in the Internet of Things (IoT) systems. Moreover, advancements in hardware have enabled sensors on smartphones such as environmental and chemical sensors that make sensor data collection readily accessible for a wide range of applications. However, dynamic, opportunistic, and heterogeneous mobility patterns of smartphone users that vary throughout the day, which greatly affects the efficacy of sensor data collection. Therefore, it is necessary to consider phone users mobility patterns to design data collection schedules that can reduce the loss of sensor data. In this paper, we propose a mobility-based weighted adaptive opportunistic scheduling framework that can adaptively adjust to the dynamic, opportunistic, and heterogeneous mobility patterns of smartphone users and provide prioritized scheduling based on various application scenarios, such as velocity, region of interest, and sensor type. The performance of the proposed framework is compared with other scheduling frameworks in various heterogeneous smartphone user mobility scenarios. Simulation results show that the proposed scheduling improves the transmission rate by 8 percent and can also improve the collection of higher-priority sensor data compared with other scheduling approaches.

  • We analysed the opportunistic scheduling method in MMR proposed by Samsung Electronic Cooperation and confirmed the efficiency by simulation. We also investigated the relationship between the throughput and fairness under the proposed method. The main objective of this study is to propose an opportunistic packet scheduling method in MMR, which considers the QoS requirement of user. Using the simulation the performance of the proposed method is compared with those of i) pure opportunistic packet scheduling method which doesn't consider QoS requirement and ii) packet scheduling method which only consider the QoS requirement, but does not utilize opportunistic packet scheduling.

  • Recently, cognitive radio technology has been spotlighted for the efficient use of limited frequency technology. The most important part of CR is to protect the incumbent user's communications. Therefore, CR user should be sensing the currently using channel and another hopping channel for sudden appearance of the Incumbent User. In this paper, we propose the cooperative channel sensing to protect the IU considering each CR user's remained power and sensing-zone, sense the spectrum bands in a fairly distributed manner and share the results among the users within respective sensing zone. Sensing scheme including inband sensing and outband sensing is utilized. The inband sensing is in charge of current using channel scanning while the outband sensing mainly cares about other channels. The performance results by computer simulations show that our sensing scheduling scheme reduces the number of sensing nodes and saves energy need to channel sensing.

  • Recently, diverse schedule management agents are being researched for the efficient schedule management of smart devices users, but they remain at a confirmatory level. In order to efficiently manage user's schedules, execution of planned schedules should be monitored to help users properly execute their schedules, or feedback must be given so that when setting up new schedules, users can plan their schedule according to their schedule establishment patterns. This research proposes a schedule management agent that infers the user's behaviors by using acquired user context, and provides schedule related feedback depending on the user's behavior patterns, when users are executing their schedules or planning new schedules. For this, collected user context information is preprocessed and user's behavior is inferred by Bayesian network. Also, in order to provide feedbacks necessary for confirming the user's schedule execution and new schedule establishment, a context tree pattern matching method for the user's schedule, location and time contexts was applied, then verified with 6 weeks of user simulation in a mobile environment.

  • Finding a solution to a constraint satisfaction problem requires choosing values for variables so as to satisfy the constraints of the problem. A constraint is simply a logical relation among several unknowns (or variables), each taking a value in a given domain. Conventional constraint-based scheduling systems are not enough to satisfy the all constraints because there are conflicts between them. In this paper, we propose a method for interactive scheduling, which have two major problems: first, it is hard to satisfy concretely all various kinds of constraints, and second, the search space is extremely large and requires a long execution time. To solve the above problems, we introduce the Interactive Scheduling System (ISS) that interacts with the user to exchange suggestions each other. Our system is performed in two steps: knowledge base generation of an initial assignment and iterative improvement with the user(host or internet client) to satisfy the constraints. Applying our system, we actually constructed timetables for our university, where the scheduling time is considerably reduced.

  • The Long Term Evolution (LTE) system is already able to provide a background of variety services for mobile users with multimedia services such as audio, video, and data. In fact, the High Speed Packet Access plus (HSPA+) solution can greatly enhance bit rates on down-link. However, the supporting for multimedia applications with different QoS (Quality of Service) requirements is not devised yet. Hence, in this paper we propose an effective packet scheduling algorithm based on Proportional Fairness (PF) scheduling algorithms for the LTE. In this proposed packet scheduling scheme, we optimized instantaneous user data rates and the traffic class weight which prioritize user's packets. Finally, we evaluated and showed the performance of the proposed scheduling algorithm through simulations of multimedia traffics being transmitted to users over LTE links in a multi-cell environment.

  • In LTE networks, the base station transmits control information over the physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) including scheduling grants, which are used to indicate the resources that the user equipment uses to send data to the base station. Because the size of the PDCCH message and the number of the PDCCH transmissions increase in proportion to the number of user equipments, the overhead of the PDCCH may cause serious network congestion problems in the narrowband LTE (NB-LTE) system. This paper proposes the compact PDCCH information bit allocation to reduce the size of the PDCCH message and evaluates the performance of the semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) in the NB-LTE system. The simulation results show that the SPS can significantly reduce the signaling overhead of the PDCCH and therefore increase the system utilization.

  • In this paper, we consider a joint frequency-domain scheduling and user-pairing problem for virtual MIMO in the single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) system, e.g., the uplink transmission for third generation partnership project-long term evolution (3GPP-LTE) standard. Due to the subcarrier adjacency constraint inherent to SC-FDMA, its complexity becomes unmanageable. We propose a greedy heuristic algorithm for PF scheduling so as to deal with the complexity issue in this joint problem. It has been shown that its performance can reach up to 90% of its upper bound.

  • Mobile WiMAX system provides various classes of traffic such as real-time and non-realtime services. These services have different QoS requirements and the QoS aware scheduling has been an important issue. Although many of scheduling algorithms for various services in OFDMA system have been proposed, it is needed to be modified to be applied to Mobile WiMAX system. Since Mobile WiMAX supports five kinds of service classes, it is important to take QoS characteristics of each class into consideration. In this paper, we propose an efficient packet scheduling algorithm to support QoS of each class. Proposed scheme selects a service class first considering QoS Characteristics of each class and choose an appropriate user in the selected class. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance than the other algorithm.

  • The concept of ubiquitous computing has changed the way we look at computing. In the ubiquitous computing, the service depends on the contexts. The existing scheduling management systems require the contexts, but does not consider various contexts. In this paper, we design and implement new web-based scheduling management system adaptive to contexts. We implemented our system by using user, time, season, location. The results show that our system suggests a good scheduling.
