  • We present the design and implementation of a unique sensing and actuation application -- the Illuminator: a sensor network-based intelligent light control system for entertainment and media production. Unlike most sensor network applications, which focus on sensing alone, a distinctive aspect of the Illuminator is that it closes the loop from light sensing to lighting control. We describe the Illuminator's design requirements, system architecture, algorithms, implementation and experimental results. The system uses the Illumimote, a multi-modal and high fidelity light sensor module well-suited for wireless sensor networks, to satisfy the high-performance light sensing requirements of entertainment and media production applications. The Illuminator system is a toolset to characterize the illumination profile of a deployed set of fixed position lights, generate desired lighting effects for moving targets (actors, scenic elements, etc.) based on user constraints expressed in a formal language, and to assist in the set up of lights to achieve the same illumination profile in multiple venues. After characterizing deployed lights, the Illuminator computes optimal light settings at run-time to achieve a user-specified actuation profile, using an optimization framework based on a genetic algorithm. Uniquely, it can use deployed sensors to incorporate changing ambient lighting conditions and moving targets into actuation. Experimental results demonstrate that the Illuminator handles various high-level user requirements and generates an optimal light actuation profile. These results suggest that the Illuminator system supports entertainment and media production applications.

  • A production management system is developed to enhance both the information and productivity of ship and offshore plant deckhouse floor outfitting. The functions of the production management system for the deckhouse floor outfitting were reviewed based on a literature survey of several production management systems with respect to the ship building and architecture fields. This study investigated numerous daily production reports and their application to actual work places to utilize the system development. The developed scanned drawing-based production management (SDPM) system minimizes any loss and/or distortion of work information between the workshop and management office when applying a scanned production drawing to the daily report. The SDPM system increases the data objectivity, as well as intuitiveness of the information generation by adopting an efficient user interface, which makes it possible to perform image annotations on the scanned drawing for the daily production report while simultaneously interacting with the production management database. Applying the system operation to actual deckhouse floor covering work verified that it was feasible to use the SDPM system for production management in the ship outfitting work process.

  • Abnormal data in the manufacturing process makes it difficult to find useful information that can be applied in data management for the manufacturing industry. It causes various problems in the daily process of production. An issue from the abnormal data can be handled by our method that uses big data and visualization. Visualization is a new technology that transforms data representation into a two-dimensional representation. Nowadays, many newly developed technologies provide data analysis, algorithm, optimization, and high efficiency, and they meet user requirements. We propose combined production of the data visualization approach that uses integrative visualization of sources of abnormal pattern analysis results. The perceived idea of the proposed approach can solve the problem as it also works for big data. It can also improve the performance and understanding by using visualization and solving issues that occur in the manufacturing process with a calendar heat map.

  • Low temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) technology using a high power laser have been widely applied to thin film transistors (TFTs) for liquid crystal, organic light emitting diode (OLED) display, driver circuit for system on glass (SOG) and static random access memory (SRAM). Recently, the semiconductor industry is continuing its quest to create even more powerful CPU and memory chips. This requires increasing of individual device speed through the continual reduction of the minimum size of device features and increasing of device density on the chip. Moreover, the flat panel display industry also need to be brighter, with richer more vivid color, wider viewing angle, have faster video capability and be more durable at lower cost. Kornic Systems Co., Ltd. developed the $KORONA^{TM}$ LTP/GLTP series - an innovative production tool for fabricating flat panel displays and semiconductor devices - to meet these growing market demands and advance the volume production capabilities of flat panel displays and semiconductor industry. The $KORONA^{TM}\;LTP/GLTP$ series using DPSS laser and XeCl excimer laser is designed for the new generation of the wafer & FPD glass annealing processing equipment combining advanced low temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) crystallization technology and object-oriented software architecture with a semistandard graphical user interface (GUI). These leading edge systems show the superior annealing ability to the conventional other method. The $KORONA^{TM}\;LTP/GLTP$ series provides technical and economical benefits of advanced annealing solution to semiconductor and FPD production performance with an exceptional level of productivity. High throughput, low cost of ownership and optimized system efficiency brings the highest yield and lowest cost per wafer/glass on the annealing market.

  • Nowadays, automated modeling system for steel margin based on interactive user interface has been developed and applied to the production design stage. The system could increase design efficiency and minimize human error owing to recent CAD technique. However, there has been no approach to the pre-nesting design stage at all in early modeling process especially where ship model should be handled at more than two design stages using AVEVA Marine. A designer of the design stage needs artificial intelligence system beyond modeling automation when 3D model must be prepared in early modeling process using AVEVA Marine because they have focused on 2D nesting traditionally. In addition, they have a hard time figuring out the model prepared in previous design stage and modifying the model for steel purchase size in early modeling process. In this paper, artificial intelligence modeling system for automated application of steel margin in early modeling process using AVEVA Marine is developed in order to apply to the pre-nesting design stage that can detect effective segments before a calculation to find if a segment locates near block butt boundaries by filtering noise segments among lines, curves and surface intersections based on IT big data analysis.

  • Twitter, Facebook, and KakaoStory are the major SNS in Korea. Social knowledge production is being produced by those services from numerous collaboration and co-participation in those SNS. Wikipedia or Naver JishikIN service was regarded as the representative product of collective knowledge production during the wired internet era. However now at the wireless internet era centered with smart phones, various forms of collective knowledge production would be achieved by connecting to SNS in real-time. In this thesis, the survey data of collective knowledge production for users of three SNS have been compared and analyzed. The difference of the collective knowledge production mechanism among Twitter, Facebook and KakaoStory has been studied and compared through three variables: the motivation of collective knowledge production, the preference of collective knowledge production model, and collective knowledge production cultural perception. As a result of the analysis of the discriminant factors for three SNS user groups, it turns out that the diversity-toward usage motivation, personal contribution motivation, and collective knowledge production tendency perception are the most influential variables. This thesis is of significance in that it unites the value of social science such as social capital and collective knowledge production from the viewpoint of computer science and opens the new chapter of collective knowledge production with the real-time SNS of wireless internet from the wired internet.

  • The continuous increase in the cost of energy production and concerns for environmental sustainability are leading research communities, governments and industries to amass efforts to reduce energy consumption and global $CO_2$ footprint. Players in the information and communication industry are keen on reducing the operational expenditures (OpEx) and maintaining the profitability of cellular networks. Meanwhile, network virtualization has been proposed in this regard as the main enabler for 5G mobile cellular networks. In this paper, we propose a generic framework of slice resource provisioning and customized physical resource allocation for energy-efficiency and quality of service optimization. In resource slicing, we consider user demand and population resources provisioning scheme aiming to satisfy quality of service (QoS). In customized physical resource allocation, we formulate this problem with an integer non-linear programming model, which is solved by a heuristic algorithm based on minimum vertex coverage. The proposed algorithm is compared with the existing approaches, without consideration of slice resource constraints via system-level simulations. From the perspective of infrastructure providers, traffic is scheduled over a limited number of active small-cell base stations (sc-BSs) that significantly reduce the system energy consumption and improve the system's spectral efficiency. From the perspective of virtual network operators and mobile users, the proposed approach can guarantee QoS for mobile users and improve user satisfaction.
