  • The transprot layer protocol for distrubuted multimedia applications in high speed network should gurantee the Quality of Serivce(QoS)requested by uwer.,The QoS Parmenters can be divied into two calssifications:those depend on the speed of a network such as bandiwidth,end-to-end transmission delay and throughput;and net- woek independent parameters such as various typed of group communications, retransmission method based on multimeda characteristic,acceptable packet wrror rate and transmission priority.In this proposed protocol,we divided user's QoS into performance redated parmeters and non-performance related parameters.The perform- ance-related paramenters are mapped into ATM traddic paramenters by the Distributed QoS Manger(DQM),the QoS manager,and the non-performance redlted paramenters are supported by the Distributed Multimedia Trans-port protocol(DMTP),a high-performance group transport protocol.Especially,becaues the DMTP is designed with considering the IP protocol,it can be efficiently used as an underlying protocol not onlu in ATM,but also in Ethernet,Token ring and FDDI LAN.

An Empirical Study of ERP Systems Customizing and Performance of SMEs in Korea and China (한.중 기업의 ERP 시스템 커스터마이징 및 성과에 관한 실증연구)

  • This paper mainly focuses on an empirical study for performance analysis which is caused by customizing of ERP systems. To conduct this study, four companies are selected in Korea and China, two companies for each country. This paper actually considers four factors for performance analysis of ERP adoption such as financial performance, user satisfaction, competitiveness, and ERP systems adoption, and the analysis of utilization performance is based on nine factors in terms of customizing of ERP systems. As a result of the analyzed results, we conduct comparison analysis about ERP systems customizing of the companies in Korea and China and suggest how to optimally customize for successful ERP systems adoption and application.

  • The IEEE 802.15.4 offers standard about PHY and MAC layer and features low power, low bandwidth, and low speed data communication. Because of this reason, IEEE 802.15.4 is only within a limited range such as sensor detection and home network; nevertheless, the research about transmission multimedia data like voice packet through wireless sensor networks is conducted widely. In this paper, we proposed the group communication system based on the sensor network. TDMA/TDD MAC based on the IEEE 802.15.4 PHY for voice communication on the sensor network is designed by improvement existing peer-to-peer voice communication on the sensor network and hardware is implemented for group communication. To measure the quality of designed system, mean opinion score (MOS) is obtained from the experiment and verified by using sine wave method. As a result of an experiment, we expect that a many cases of application solution can be developed using presented system.

  • Recently, a new theoretical and methodological approach for computational science is becoming more and more popular for analyzing and solving scientific problems in various scientific disciplines and applied research. Computational science is a field of study concerned with constructing mathematical models and quantitative analysis techniques and using large computing resources to solve the problems which are difficult to approach in a physical experimentally. In this paper, we present R&D of EDISON open integration platform that allows anyone like professors, researchers, industrial workers, students etc to upload their advanced research result such as simulation SW to use and share based on the cyber infrastructure of supercomputer and network. EDISON platform, which consists of 3 tiers (EDISON application framework, EDISON middleware, and EDISON infra resources) provides Web portal for education and research in 5 areas (CFD, Chemistry, Physics, Structural Dynamics, Computational Design) and user service.

A study on the current status of EUC andindividual characteristicsofend-users in Korean firms (최종사용자 컴퓨팅의 실태와 최종사용자 개인적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study has two research objectives related to end-user computing (EUC). One of the research objectives was to investigate the current status of EUC of Korean firms. Another research objective was to examine the relationship between individual differences of end-users and EUC success. Using survey data from 752 end-users of 23 firms, the surrent status of EUC and the relationship between individual differences of end-users and EUC success were investigated. The current status of EUC was examined from six perspectives: 1). what is the characteristics of EUC strategy of Korean firms, 2). what are the individual characteristics of end-users in Korean Firms, #0. what are the characteristics of tasks performed by end-users using computer, 4). what are the application a areas of EUC, 5). How end-users are satisfied with the support of firms, 6). what are system usage and satisfaction of end-users. It was also foud that individual differences of end-users are related to EUC success. More specifically, it wat shown that the male gender, younger age, higher level of education, higher rank and organizational tenure, higher math ability, thinking type of cognitive style, positive and optimistic attitudes toward computer, more experience with computer, more computer education and knowledge are individual differences variables associated with EUC success. The results of stepwise regression analysis suggested that the individual difference variables accounted for 14%, 25%, 39% and 30% of the variances of four EUC success variables, satisfaction for outcome, satisfaction for ability, frequency of computer use, and the number of tasks, respectively. These empirical findings suggest that EUC managers should consider individual differences of end-users in managing EUC, such as education, training, support, and human resource management, to maximize potential benefits of EUC.

  • This paper presents the design and the implementation of a MissCW(Multi user Interactive System for Synchronous Collaborative Writing). The document model DMDA(Distributed Multimedia Document Architecture) of MissCW consists of the logical structure, presentation style object, and mark object. The windows. The collaborative editor of this system proposes a structure oriented editing mechanism to combine distrbuted objects into one document. The middleware SOM(Shared Object Manager) maintains shared objects consistently and helps application programs use objects efficiently. The infrastructure of this system is a hybrid structure of replicated and centralized architectures, that is to maintain shared objects consistently inside of SOM and to reduce the overhead of network traffic. The central part is a virtual node which corresponds to the Object Controller of SOMwith the SOT(Shared Objet Table).

  • Recently, VR and AR are emerging as an area of interest in ICT. In virtual reality to feel like a real, many people are looking for them because of its charm. However, the motion of the VR image and the moving object are not synchronized exactly, and a problem of feeling nausea is also occurring. The problem should be solved by the application of Attraction in the VR system. In this paper, we propose a module that minimizes delay time by synchronizing movement of VR image and moving object. The proposed module calculates the moving distance using the direction and the acceleration sensor that the user views through the VR device. The module proposed in this paper will pay attention to the fact that the movement of the attraction moves along a fixed path, so that the accurate travel distance can be calculated.

  • A new research of geographic information system has been focused on an open architecture, interoperability and extensibility in their design. In order to process huge data, multidimensional data and heterogeneous geographic format data, these research move away from monolithic system to open structure system managing application layer and user interface layer. Nowadays, many developers have used CORBA middleware for the OGIS systems. However, CORBA middleware has some problems that support only a point-to-point communication and takes a long time to transfer sever data to client. Thus, in this paper, we propose a method on modifying a point-to-point communication and implement the efficient communication method. The proposed method that transfer data from sever to client in one connection support a group communication and reduce a transfer time delay.

  • In this paper, we propose an experimental environment which can be accessed by remote users, where they can select their preferred operating system, and they can use the Power Controllable systems with full permission to access them. The goal of the proposed systems is to provide an experimental environment for the users to join the international experiment that needs high bandwidth network. In order to do that, we provide high performance systems that is directly connected to back-bone network, and we also provide the ability of users to install any application on various operating system. In addition, we provide the ability to keep continuing the system environment of users in shared system environment. We will show how the proposed systems are useful for the users in terms of the user-efficiency to utilize the environment and the response time for the set-up time. This new proposed environments will provide a new experimental method for the scientists who works for international collaborative experimental researches.
