This study predicted broadband noise from a generic 2.5MW wind turbine blade in the time domain. The rotor blade was modeled as thin rectangular flat plates. A simplified analytic model proposed by Amiet was used to model the unsteady surface pressure distribution. The acoustic pressure was calculated by using the loading term of Formulation 1A proposed by Farassat. The validation was also performed by comparing with an experiment of Brooks, Pope, and Marcolini. By using these numerical methods, the broadband noise signal of the wind turbine was successfully predicted in this study.
As rotor blade of a wind turbine becomes larger to satisfy the economic efficiency for offshore wind farm, the numerical analysis considering wind profile is getting emphasized. In this paper, the study for the power characteristic of a wind turbine is carried out using NREL phase VI wind turbine applied wind profile. The experimental data of NASA Ames wind tunnel for inflow velocity 7m/s is used and the numerical result is obtained by using CFD commercial solver(FLUENT).

The effect of the changes in parameter angles(precone, droop, sweep) on the lead-lag damping was focused on. Experiment was made with hingeless 4-blade rotors and NACA 0012 airfoil. For the measurement of the rotating natural frequencies and lead-lag damping, non-rotating swash plate was oscillated at the regressing lag mode frequency and the data were acquired after the excitation was cut off. Analysis was made using a finite element formulation based on Hamilton's principle. The main blade is assumed as elastic beams. Quasi-steady strip theory is used to obtain aerodynamic forces, and non-circulatory forces are also included.
Offshore wind turbines are complex structural and mechanical systems located in a highly demanding environment. This paper proposes a multi-level system approach for studying the structural behavior of the support structure of an offshore wind turbine. In accordance with this approach, a proper numerical modeling requires the adoption of a suitable technique in order to organize the qualitative and quantitative assessment in various sub-problems, which can be solved by means of sub-models at different levels of detail, both for the structural behavior and for the simulation of loads. Consequently, in a first place, the effects on the structural response induced by the uncertainty of the parameters used to describe the environmental actions and the finite element model of the structure are inquired. After that, a meso-level FEM model of the blade is adopted in order to obtain the detailed load stress on the blade/hub connection.
Blade-vortex interaction (BVI) is one of the most important phenomena in rotor flow since it causes undesirable intense vibration and noise. Since three dimensional Euler or Navier-Stokes solutions to BVI require very high computational cost, BVI has been approximated by airfoil-vortex interaction (AVI) in chordwise planes. To describe more realistic situations with AVI, three dimensional vortex informations such as position, core size and strength are embedded artificially to Computational Aeroacoustics (CAA) calculation at each computational time step. To implement this requirement, in this paper, a technique called free vortex embedded method was used. And the solution by this method was compared with the solution by conventional method for interaction between freely convected vortex and airfoil. For the application to three dimensional free vortex embedded CAA, two dimensional free vortex embedded CAA method was validated in advance.
This study is for the pitch control of blade, used in most horizontal-axis wind turbine systems, to sustain the maximum power output supplied to grid. The control of a blade can be divided into a stall regulation and a pitch control methods. The stall regulation method using an aerodynamic stall is simple and cheap, but it suffers from fluctuation of the resulting power. Pitch control method is mechanically and mathematically complicated, but the control performance is better than that of the stall regulation method. In this paper 2.5MW MOD-2 wind turbine system is adopted to be controlled by a pitch controller with PI method. The simulation performed by MA TLAB will show the variation of frequency, generator output, and pitch angle.
This paper describes the development of standard series for turbo blowers. In mass production system, it is very required to standardize blowers to improve the productivity of ordering, estimating, manufacturing. To standardize blowers, we performed researches on the effects of $b_1$(impeller inlet width), $b_2$(impeller outlet width), ${\beta}_1$(blade inlet angle), ${\beta}_2$(blade outlet angle), Z(number of blades) of impellers and geometry of casing experimentally. Through this study, we chose the several best model of turbo blowers with high efficiency and low noise, which represent each specific speed series 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, 250, 315. After the development of such standardized blowers, the test results are used to prepare the fan geometry and performance database for a selection software.

Cross-flow fans are widely used in various applications, due to their large capacity of mass flow and size compactness. The flow field of the cross-flow fan is, however, complex and has many design parameters. Thus, the general design guide has not been sufficiently established yet and the design strategies of cross-flow fans have been based on experiments. In the present study, the performance and their two-dimensional flow characteristics are numerically analyzed by using the STAR-CD(commercial computational fluid dynamics code). The simulation is done by varying the several design parameters such as the impeller blade shapes and the gap between the stabilizer and impeller. The computational results are compared with the experimental data at the fan outlet region. Finally some helpful guides for the optimum design of cross-flow fans are proposed.

Fly ash enters axial compressor when a turbomachinery is operated in an adverse environment. We have numerically investigated erosion of the blade and shroud in the turbulent compressor passage flow under the influence of gas-particle two-phase interaction. There have appeared quasi-three dimensional calculations on this subject but not the complete three-dimensional gas-particle interaction as done in the present work. Lagrangian particle tracing technique is used on the base of parallel processing for efficient calculation. Accuracy of the present code is tested using the benchmark lPL nozzle. In the DFVLR compressor blades, we have shown that a large number of particles passing through the tip clearance make impact on the blade tip and on the shroud. Higher degree of erosion is resulted by the heavier particles due to the centrifugal force.
