문헌정보학 분야의 통계기법 사용에 관한 계량적 연구 (A quantitative analysis of the use of statistics in library and information science)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze quantitatively the use of statistics, especially inferential statistics, in library and information science. Thus this study compared the use of statistics in library and information science with it in social work and education. The results of this study are as follows: First, the result is that, when the proportions of articles in each of the three categories of use are compared, library and information science is deficient in the use of inferential statistics and unusually productive of articles in 'No Statistics' category and 'Descriptive Statistics Only' category. Second, ANOVA showed no significant difference in the means for number of articles with no statistics and for articles with descriptive statistics only, but did show a statistically significant difference for the means for number of articles with inferential statistics. That is, the use of inferential statistics in library and information science was very less than the other subject areas. Third, a comparison of the numbers of various inferential statistics for each of the three subject areas indicated that the differences were not significant. This fact means that the quality of inferential statistics used in library and information science was similar to the other subjects.

  • The concern of this paper is to provide learning opportunities to participate in the class of statistics with interest for the students who dislike mathematics and especially find difficulty in understanding statistics. The students were encouraged to arrange data collected in their daily life by the use of spreadsheet program and to interpret the result of data with graphs, so that they could have a great interest in statistics and make steady progress in their voluntary study. The further study to use computers in teaching mathematics should be continued and recommended in the rapid age of information and knowledge-based.

  • 임상시험은 인간을 대상으로 약물 또는 치료법의 효과를 검증하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 성공적인 임상시험을 위해서는 단순한 자료분석에만 통계의 이용을 제한하지 않고 다양한 영역으로 활용의 폭을 넓히는 것이 필요하다. 연구계획단계에서부터 구체적이고 체계적으로 통계의 활용을 고려하기 위해 효과에 대한 정의, 적정한 표본크기 산정, 통계분석 방법 등 전반적인 통계의 응용을 고찰한다.

Adaptive M-estimation in Regression Model

  • In this paper we introduce some adaptive M-estimators using selector statistics to estimate the slope of regression model under the symmetric and continuous underlying error distributions. This selector statistics is based on the residuals after the preliminary fit L$_1$ (least absolute estimator) and the idea of Hogg(1983) and Hogg et. al. (1988) who used averages of some order statistics to discriminate underlying symmetric distributions in the location model. If we use L$_1$ as a preliminary fit to get residuals, we find the asymptotic distribution of sample quantiles of residual are slightly different from that of sample quantiles in the location model. If we use the functions of sample quantiles of residuals as selector statistics, we find the suitable quantile points of residual based on maximizing the asymptotic distance index to discriminate distributions under consideration. In Monte Carlo study, this adaptive M-estimation method using selector statistics works pretty good in wide range of underlying error distributions.

  • 제한된 예산, 고가의 패키지 구독비, 출판사 주도의 라이선스 협상 등의 불리한 환경에서 자관의 실정에 맞는 전자저널을 구성하기 위해 도서관은 전자저널 이용데이터를 수집하고 분석해야 한다. 본 연구는 전자저널 이용통계 연구 동향 및 COUNTER 3판에 근거한 이용통계 제공 현황을 살펴보고 현장에서 쉽게 활용 가능한 이용통계 분석의 가이드라인을 제시하고자 하였다. 현재 제공되는 이용통계 보고서를 기반으로 분석할 수 있는 핵심 이용통계치로 저널별 원문이용도, 저널이용률, 원문이용단가, 고이용군, 저이용군을 제안함으로써 전자저널 관리를 위한 이용통계의 효과적인 활용 방안을 다루었다.

THE USE OF ANECDOTES IN TEACHING THE INTRODUCTORY STATISTICS FOR THE PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS

  • Anecdotes can produce an emotional and simple response that decreases stress and anxiety in a classroom. The use of anecdotes in building concepts of statistics can support an effective way of teaching and learning statistics. Particularly, we demonstrate several anecdotes including pictures as the medium of image that are designed to motivate statistical ideas by placing them at the beginning of a lecture and by appealing to prospective teachers weighed down. Our purpose is that under the constructivist view, prospective teachers have an opportunity effectively to teach statistical concepts using humorous anecdotes and to experience significant beliefs on identifying some frequent misconceptions in statistics. At this procedure, the anecdotal teaching practice is concerned with describing and evaluating many humorous anecdotes we have found useful in teaching introductory statistics. We hope that this paper can be helpful to prospective teachers who will teach students such topics as descriptive statistics, sampling, and hypothesis testing.

  • In this paper, we propose some estimators of Kullback- Leibler Information functions using the data from three step stress accelerated life tests. This acceleration model is assumed to be a tampered random variable model. Some asymptotic properties of proposed estimators are proved. Simulations are performed for comparing the small sample properties of the proposed estimators under use condition of accelerated life test.

  • In this study, we provide a comparison of multivariate Q-techniques in the up-to-date versions of SAS, SPSS, Minitab and S-plus well known to those who study statistics. We can analyze data through the direct Input method(command) in SAS and use of menu method in SPSS, Minitab and S-plus. The analysis performance method is chosen by the high frequency of use. Widely we compare with each Q-techniques form according to input data, input option, statistical chart and statistical output.
