The effect of the NCO index and catalyst type on the thermal stability of poly(urethane-isocyanurate) (PUIR) foams was investigated to identify a method for enhancing the flame resistance of PUIR. PUIR foams were prepared using 4,4-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) and [(diethylene glycol)adipate]diol, which were synthesized by esterification of adipic acid and diethylene glycol. Dabco K-15, Dabco TMR-30, and Toyocat RX-5 were used as the catalysts for trimerization and gelation. The amount of urea and isocyanurate groups in PUIR was semi-quantitatively determined by normalizing their absorbance with the phenyl absorbance measured by FT-IR. The normalization data showed that Dabco TMR-30 effectively generated isocyanurate groups in PUIR. As a result, Dabco TMR-30 effectively raised the decomposition temperature and increased the 800 K and 900 K residues of the PUIR foam synthesized with an NCO index of 200.

This study describes the influence of the amount of curing agent and curing temperature on the kinetics of polyurethane elastomers. The urethane prepolymer series was prepared by reacting toluene diisocyanate with polytetramethylene ether glycol at $80^{\circ}C$ for 1 h, and 4,4'-methylene bis(2-chloroaniline) was used as the curing agent. The ratio of the amine group of the curing agent to the isocyanate group of the urethane prepolymer was controlled from 0.85 to 1.05 at curing temperatures ranging from 80 to $120^{\circ}C$. The curing rate of the urethane prepolymer was monitored by observing the change in heat flow during the curing process using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). As either the content of curing agent or the curing temperature was higher, the conversion rate to the polyurethane elastomer was high. The DSC results were compared with those obtained from using real-time FT-IR.
In this study, a FEM analysis is undertaken of a rubber sleeve which is mounted onto a spreading mandrel so as to avoid marking the first wrappings of coils (known as the 'end-mark'), as occasionally occurs when a concentrated load is placed on the edge of a steel sheet, significantly reducing its quality. A commercial numerical package, ANSYS, was utilized to analyze the structural behavior of the rubber sleeve. In general, the strain of the sleeve increases as the thickness of the rubber layer (H) covering the tubes increases, thus also increasing the surface of the sleeve for a constant boundary condition, and decreasing the pitch (P) between each tube, resulting in an increase in the strain on the surface of the sleeve for all rubber thickness conditions tested here. In a comparison of two different materials, rubber and urethane, when H=3 mm and P=1.1D, the maximum total deformations in these cases are 0.12669 mm and 0.086623 mm, respectively.
Polyurethane dispersion (PUD) polymers were synthesized by using polyether and polyester polyol. The effect of ionomeric centers, r(NCO / OH) values, chain extender process, and chain extender types on the adhesion properties was investigated. In the case of polyether-based PUD, the ionic center, r value, chain extension process and chain extender types were not adjusted even after adjustment. In the case of polyester-based PUD, when the ionic center content was more than 2.5%, the state of adhesive strength was $2.0kgf/cm^2$ or more. On the other hand, the initial adhesive strength was excellent at about $1kgf/cm^2$ when the ionic center content was over 3.5%. When the r value was 1.3 or more, it was found that the initial bonding strength and the state of bonding strength were excellent at about $1kgf/cm^2$ and $2.1kgf/cm^2$ or higher, respectively. An IR spectrum analysis of the synthesized PUD confirmed that PUD was composed of urethane based on the N-H characteristic peak at $3340cm^{-1}$ and the urethane characteristic peak at $1730cm^{-1}$. Moreover, the characteristic peaks of the isocyanate ($2260cm^{-1}$) used in the preparation of the prepolymer were not observed. As a result, the residual -NCO was not observed, and urethane was completely synthesized.
This study deals with the characterizing and the application like as insulation materials in the joint part in concrete surface layer and waterproofing sheet especially for roof slabs. Using steel materials and butil-rubber tape to band waterproofing sheet and concrete surface together before this waterproofing system will be applied. It can be expected to both the curability and the watertightness by coating poly-urethane 2 or 3 times with sheet surface. Therefore this waterproofing system can be possible to protect water without the damage when vapor is going out from concrete and without air pockets because of the difference temperature inside and out. This system particularly consists of air bents and elastic waterproofing sheet considering the physical damage while water can cause purely physical damage. This system is one of the most efficient ways of waterproofing system without air pocket.

The four different vinyl monomers in the reaction of isocyanate-terminated polyurethane prepolymer were used for the preparation of macromonomers and successfully employed in the dispersion polymerization of styrene. The chemical structures of vinyl monomer in macromonomers influenced on the polystyrene particle characteristics, such as the conversion, weight average molecular weights ($M_w$), polydispersity index (PDI), weight average diameter ($D_w$), and uniformity. The conversion of polystyrene increased with amounts of methyl group in vinyl monomer. Also the uniformity of polystyrene particles increased with amounts of methyl group in vinyl monomer.
Platelet adhesion onto elastic polymeric biomaterials was tested in vitro by perfusing human whole blood at a shear rate of 100 sec$\^$-1/ for possible verification of mechanisms of initial platelet adhesion perfusion of blood on the polymeric substrates was performed after treatments either with or without pre-adsorption of 1% blood plasma, and either with or without residence of the protein-preadsorbed substrate in phosphate buffered solution. The surfaces employed were elastic polymers such as poly(ether urethane urea), poly(ether urethane), silicone urethane copolymer, silicone rubber and poly(ether urethane) with the anti-calcifying agent hydroxyethane bisphosphate. Each polymer surface treated was exposed in vitro to the dynamic, heparinized whole blood perfused for upto 6 min and the surface area of platelets initially adhered was measured by employing in situ epifluorescence video microscopy. The blood perfusion was performed on the surfaces treated at the following three different conditions: directly on the bare surfaces, after protein pre-adsorption and after residence in buffer for 3 days of the surfaces protein pre-adsorbed for 2 h. The effects of blood plasma pre-adsorption on the initial platelet adhesion was surface-dependent. The amount of the adsorbed fibrinogen and the surface coverage area of the adhered platelets were dependent on the surface conditions whether substrates were bare surfaces or protein pre-adsorbed ones. To test an effect of possible morphological (re)orientations of the adsorbed proteins on the initial platelet adhesion, the polymeric substrate pre-adsorbed with 1% blood plasma was immersed in phosphate buffered solution for 3 days and then exposed to physiological blood perfusion. The surface area of the platelets adhered on these surfaces was significantly different from that of the surfaces treated with protein pre-adsorption only. These results indicated that platelet adhesion was dependent on the surface property itself and pre-treatment conditions such as blood perfusion without any pre-adsorption of proteins, and blood perfusion either after protein pre-adsorption or after subsequent substrate residence in buffer of the substrate pre-adsorbed with proteins. Understanding of these results may guide for better designs of blood-contacting materials based on protein behaviors.
This paper presents the experimental results of the friction characteristics of double liptype oil seals which show an improvement in sealing performance over single lip-type oil seals. The major differences between two oil seals are the number of contact lip, and seal materials; Nitrile Butadine Rubber(NBR) and urethane rubber. The measured results show that the friction torques of double lip seals show 12-17% increases compared with those of single lip-type seals. But the sealing performance and service life of double lip oil seals have been increased and stabilized due to an optimized design of the seal lip and material properties.
