The flow duration curves in the present and the ideal hydrologic cycle were derived using SWAT model. The present situation is the landuse and the groundwater withdrawal in the year of 2000 and the ideal situation is the landuse of 1975 and no groundwater withdrawal. These results were compared with the previous instream flow requirements which are the larger flow between the average drought flow and environmental control flow. As a result, the present and ideal drought flows of Ojeoncheon, Hakuicheon, Samseongcheon, and Sammakcheon, were the same and the drought flows of Samseongcheon and Sammakcheon were even zero since the baseflow is very little due to the small and mountainous watersheds. The previous instream flow requirement for the riverine function is also larger than the low flow of the ideal hydrologic cycle. The present method to set the instream flow requirement is not proper for the small mountainous watershed since it can be usually overestimated and drive the artificial measures to secure the streamflow Therefore, another method should be developed such as the low flow and the average flow between the drought flow and the low flow of the ideal hydrologic cycle using the proper hydrologic simulation model such as SWAT which can consider the landuse.
Jeju Island, the heaviest raining area in Korea, is a volcanic Island located at the southernmost of Korea, but most streams are of the dry due to its hydrological/geological characteristics different from those of inland areas. Therefore, there are limitations in applying the results from the mainland to the studies on stream run-off characteristics analysis and water resource analysis of Jeju Island. In this study, the SWAT(soil & water assessment tool) model is used for the Hwabuk stream watershed located east of the downtown to calculate the long-term stream run-off rate, and WMS(watershed modeling system) and HEC-HMS(hydrologic modeling system) models are used to figure out the stream run-off characteristics due to short-term heavy rainfall. As the result of SWAT modelling for the long-term rainfall-runoff model for Hwabuk stream watershed in 2008, 5.66% of the average precipitation of the entire basin was run off, with 3.47% in 2009, 8.12% in 2010, and root mean square error(RMSE) and determination coefficient($R^2$) was 496.9 and 0.87, respectively, with model efficient(ME) of 0.72. From the results of WMS and HEC-HMS models which are short-term rainfall-runoff models, unless there was a preceding rainfall, the runoff occurred only for rainfall of 40mm or greater, and the run-off duration averaged 10~14 hours.
This paper presents the integrated storage function model (ISFM) to improve the accuracy of the storage function model (SFM) which is widely employed for flood runoff analysis and its forecasting in Korea. In order to achieve this objective, the optimization method is applied for estimation of parameters of the model which dominate the accuracy of the analysis, which is usually taken by empirical formulae, and they are treated as time dependent variables. The fuzzy control technique is used to detennine the time variant parameters. In addition, the ISFM can be applied to the combined routing of the watershed and the channel with a residual watershed.ershed.

Urban runoff models have been continuously developing with concerns for urban flood. Recently, models that be able to quantitatively analyze surface inundation caused by overflowed water from storm sewer were also developed by coupling 1-dimensional sewer model and 2-dimensional surface flow model. However, only overflowed water from storm sewer can be analyzed by the models have been developed until now. They are limited to be not able to analyze surface inundation caused by surface runoff that could not flow into the storm sewer. In order to overcome the limitation, basin-overlap method was devised adding a dummy 1-dimensional sewer layer to the model, so it can consider the efficiency of inflow to the storm sewer system. XP-SWMM 2011 is applied for urban runoff model and the flood event occurred on July 27, 2011 in basin-shaped Sadangcheon watershed is chosen for study inundation event. According to simulation results basin-overlap method reappear the observed inundation event more precisely than traditional method. This results suggest that drainage system has to be improved for reducing inundation caused by surface runoff and would be used as considerations for planning an urban basin design magnitude.

The purpose of this study is to assess the hydrological impact on a watershed from long-term land cover changes. Gyeongan-cheon watershed($558.2km^2$) was selected and WMS(watershed modeling system) HEC-1 model was adopted as an evaluation tool. To identify land cover changes, five Landsat images(1980/2/15, 1986/4/15, 1990/4/26, 1996/4/26, 2000/5/17) were selected and analyzed using maximum likelihood method. As a result, urban areas have increased by 5.6% and forest areas have decreased by 6.1% between 1980 and 2000. SCS curve number increased by 9.8. To determine model parameters and evaluate HEC-1 model, five storm events(1998/5/2, 1998/8/23, 1998/9/30, 1999/5/3, 2000/7/29) were used. The simulated stream flow agreed well with the observed one with relative errors ranging from 9% to 36%. For 254 mm daily rainfall of 30 years frequency, due to the increase of urban areas peak flow increased by $455m^3/sec$ and the time of peak flow reduced about four hours for 20 years land cover changes.
Urban rainfall-runoff procedures are more complex than the agricultural procedures due to the spreading and development of town. And the applications of theses models are more difficult due to the change of real basins. In this study, I applied SWMM and Expert System to get runoff characteristics of an urbanized basin. Noen in Daejeon is selected as a study basin. Real basin data of facilities, rainfall, runoff, and various rainfall intensity equations are used. An Expert System is used to get the parameters of this model. These results can be applied to analyze the reaction tendencies of the urban basin with the time distributions of design rainfall and the urbanization.

In recent years, urbanization has been a hot issues in watershed management due to increased pollutant loads from impervious urban areas. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model has been widely used in hydrology and water quality studies at watershed scale. However, the SWAT has limitations in simulating water flows between HRUs and hydrological effects of LID practices. The Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) has LID capabilities, but it does not simulate non-urban areas, especially agricultural areas. In this study, a SWAT-SWMM coupled model was developed to evaluate effects of LID practices on hydrology and water quality at mixed-landuse watersheds. This coupled SWAT-SWMM was evaluated by comparing calibrated flow with and without coupled SWAT-SWMM. As a result of this study, the $R^2$ and NSE values with SWAT are 0.951 and 0.937 for calibration period, and 0.882 and 0.875 for validation period, respectively. the $R^2$ and NSE values with SWAT-SWMM are 0.877 and 0.880 for validation period. Out of four LID scenarios simulated by SWAT-SWMM model, the green roof scenario was found to be most effective which reduces about 25% of rainfall-runoff flows.

Multivariate statistical analysis and an environmental hydrological model were applied for investigating the causes of water pollution and providing best management practices for water quality improvement in urban and agricultural watersheds. Principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA) for water quality time series data show that chemical oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon (TOC), suspended solids (SS) and total phosphorus (T-P) are classified as non-point source pollutants that are highly correlated with river discharge. Total nitrogen (T-N), which has no correlation with river discharge and inverse relationship with water temperature, behaves like a point source with slow and consistent release. Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) shows intermediate characteristics between point and non-point source pollutants. The results of the PCA and CA for the spatial water quality data indicate that the cluster 1 of the watersheds was characterized as upstream watersheds with good water quality and high proportion of forest. The cluster 3 shows however indicates the most polluted watersheds with substantial discharge of BOD and nutrients from urban sewage, agricultural and industrial activities. The cluster 2 shows intermediate characteristics between the clusters 1 and 3. The results of hydrological simulation program-Fortran (HSPF) model simulation indicated that the seasonal patterns of BOD, T-N and T-P are affected substantially by agricultural and livestock farming activities, untreated wastewater, and environmental flow. The spatial analysis on the model results indicates that the highly-populated watersheds are the prior contributors to the water quality degradation of the river.
The objectives of this study Is to evaluate the total runoff yield, peak flow and peak flow travel time depending on the urbanization, return period and rainfall patterns at the downstream of Manchon urban watershed in TaeGu City. SWM(Storm Water Management Model) is used for runog analysis based on 5 different steps of urbanization and 4 different types of Hufrs quartile according to 8 return periods. It is analyzed that the order of total runoff yield according to raiun patterns is Huffs 4, Huffs 2. Huffs 3 and Huffs 1 quartile, that of peak flow magnitude is Huffs 2, Huffs 1, Huffs 4 and Huffs 3 quartile at present development ratio. under the 60, 70, 80 and 90ft of urbanization to the 50% of urbanization by means of the rainfall patterns, the mean Increasing ratio of total runoff yield for each case is 4.55, 11.43, 16.07 and 20.02%, that of peak flow is 5.82, 13.61, 17.15 and 18.83%, the mean decreasing ratio of peak flow travel time Is 0.00, 2.44, 5.07 and 6.26%, the mean increasing ratio of runoff depth Is 4.51, 11.42, 16.02 and 20.05% respectively. the mean increasing ratio of total runoff yield by means of each and 19.71%. Therefore, as the result of this study. it can be used for principal data as to storm sewage treatment and flood damage protection planning in urban small watershed.
In determining design runoff for the design of drainage systems, the concept of critical storm duration is applied. However, rainfall distribution is usually determined without well-defined standards. In this paper, through the application of ILLUDAS model to Sanbon basin, which is a small urbanized watershed, effects of various rainfall distributing types upon the determination of critical storm duration are throughly analyzed. As a result, it is revealed that peak discharge rates as well as critical storm duration are greatly influenced by the applied of rainfall distributions such as uniform, triangular, trapezoid, huff, central type using IDF curve. Keywords : critical storm duration, rainfall distribution, urban runoff, design storm, ILLUDAS.
