Recently, various electronic functions are developed for car drivers as the advent of electrical automobile. Especially, there are functions to examine for preventing drowsy or healthcare through monitoring brainwave(EEG) of drivers in real time. This function can be provided by transmitting driver's EEG, and the network function for transmission among cars or between car and road side infrastructure is a vital issue. Therefore, in this paper, to provide efficient routing protocol for transmitting EEG data at a cross road in an urban area, 5 different wireless communication network applied each routing protocol such as AODV, DSR, GRP, OLSR, and TORA is designed and simulated in the OPNet network simulator, then it is evaluated for the result.

Wireless signal transmission is influenced by environmental effects. These effects have also been challenging for Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) in real-time communication. More specifically, in an urban environment, with high mobility among vehicles, a vehicle's status from the transmitter can instantly trigger from line of sight to non-line of sight, which may cause loss of real-time communication. In order to overcome this, a deterministic signal propagation model is required, which has less complexity and more feasibility of implementation. Hence, we propose a realistic path loss model which adopts ray tracing technique for VANET in a grid urban environment with less computational complexity. To evaluate the model, it is applied to a vehicular simulation scenario. The results obtained are compared with different path loss models in the same scenario based on path loss value and application layer performance analysis. The proposed path loss model provides higher loss value in dB compared to other models. Nevertheless, the performance of vehicle-vehicle communication, which is evaluated by the packet delivery ratio with different vehicle transmitter density verifies improvement in real-time vehicle-vehicle communication. In conclusion, we present a realistic path loss model that improves vehicle-vehicle wireless real-time communication in the grid urban environment.

Lane change is an important issue in microscopic traffic flow simulations and active safety. Overtaking and changing lanes are dangerous driving maneuvers. This approach presents a lane-changing system based on speed and a minimum gap between vehicles in a vehicular ad hoc network (VANET). This paper proposes a solution to ensure the safety of drivers while changing lanes on highways. Efficient routing protocols could play a crucial role in VANET applications, safeguarding both drivers and passengers, and thus, maintaining a safe on-road environment. This paper focuses on the development of an intelligent transportation system that provides timely, reliable information to drivers and the concerned authorities. A test bed is created for the techniques used in the proposed system, where analysis takes place in an on-board embedded system designed for vehicle navigation. The designed system was tested on a four-lane road in Neemrana, India. Successful simulations were conducted with real-time network parameters to maximize quality of service and performance using Simulation of Urban Mobility and Network Simulator 2 (NS-2). The system implementation, together with the findings, is presented in this paper. Illustrating the approach are results from simulation using NS-2.
Recently, in the U-health area, there are research related on monitoring brainwaves in real-time for coping with emergent situations like the fatigue driving, cerebral infarction or the heart attack of not only the patients but also the normal elderly folks by transmitting of the EEG(Electroencephalograph). This system could be applied to hospitals or sanatoriums. In this paper, it is applied for the vehicular ad-hoc network to prevent the car accident in advance by monitoring the brainwaves of a driver in real-time. In order to do this, I used mobile ad-hoc nodes supported in the Opnet simulator for the efficient EEG brainwave transmission in the VANET environment. The vehicular ad-hoc networks transmitting the brainwaves to the nearest road-side unit are designed and simulated to draw an efficient and proper vehicular ad-hoc network environment.

Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) are self-configuring networks where the nodes are vehicles equipped with wireless communication technologies. In such networks, limitation of signal coverage and fast topology changes impose difficulties to the proper functioning of the routing protocols. Traditional Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET) routing protocols lose their performance, when communicating between vehicles, compromising information exchange. Obviously, most applications critically rely on routing protocols. Thus, in this work, we propose a methodology for investigating the performance of well-established protocols for MANETs in the VANET arena and, at the same time, we introduce a routing protocol, called Genetic Network Protocol (G-NET). It is based in part on Dynamic Source Routing Protocol (DSR) and on the use of Genetic Algorithms (GAs) for maintenance and route optimization. As G-NET update routes periodically, this work investigates its performance compared to DSR and Ad Hoc on demand Distance Vector (AODV). For more realistic simulation of vehicle movement in urban environments, an analysis was performed by using the VanetMobiSim mobility generator and the Network Simulator (NS-3). Experiments were conducted with different number of vehicles and the results show that, despite the increased routing overhead with respect to DSR, G-NET is better than AODV and provides comparable data delivery rate to the other protocols in the analyzed scenarios.

Fast and reliable message broadcasting is critical for safety critical applications of VANET due to the urgency and/or significance of the messages for passengers and drivers. For reliable message delivery, a mechanism for checking the reception of message at the neighboring vehicles and retransmitting it if necessary is required. Especially, in urban environments, where the traffic density tends to be high, mechanisms that minimize control message overhead such as beacon are appropriate in order to minimize the message collisions. Furthermore, broadcast delivery is especially difficult at the intersection due to the road side obstacles such buildings, and hence, a mechanism that enables effective and efficient delivery across intersections is required. In this paper, we propose a beaconless reliable and efficient broadcast approach which specifically taking into account the urban streets. The proposed approach checks the message reception of neighboring vehicles implicitly by taking into account the broadcast of message by next vehicle as the acknowledgement. When retransmissions is necessary around the intersections, vehicles located within the intersection area, where the chance of successful signal propagation toward every branch of the intersection is higher due to less signal attenuation caused by road side obstacles, are to do the retransmissions. Simulation results show that the proposed approach can provide better reliability while consume less resources than the existing approaches.

Multiple wireless devices are being widely deployed in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) services on the road to establish end-to-end connection between vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) networks. Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) play an important role in supporting V2V and V2I communications (also called V2X communications) in a variety of urban environments with distinct topological characteristics. In fact, obstacles such as big buildings, moving vehicles, trees, advertisement boards, traffic lights, etc. may block the radio signals in V2X communications. Their impact has been neglected in VANET research. In this paper, we present a realistic and efficient radio propagation model to handle different sizes of static and moving obstacles for V2X communications. In the proposed model, buildings and large moving vehicles are modeled as static and moving obstacles, and taken into account their impact on the packet reception rate, Line-of-sight (LOS) obstruction, and received signal power. We use unsymmetrical city map which has many dead-end roads and open faces. Each dead-end road and open faces are joined to the nearest edge making a polygon to model realistic obstacles. The simulation results of proposed model demonstrates better performance compared to some existing models, that shows proposed model can reflect more realistic simulation environments.
Greedy protocols show good performance in Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) environment in general. But they make longer routes causing by surroundings or turn out routing failures in some cases when there are many traffic signals which generate empty streets temporary, or there is no merge roads after a road divide into two roads. When a node selects the next node simply using the distance to the destination node, the longer route is made by traditional greedy protocols in some cases and sometimes the route ends up routing failure. Most of traditional greedy protocols just take into account the distance to the destination to select a next node. Each node needs to consider not only the distance to the destination node but also the direction to the destination while routing a packet because of geographical environment. The proposed routing scheme considers both of the distance and the direction for forwarding packets to make a stable route. And the protocol can configure as the surrounding environment. We evaluate the performance of the protocol using two mobility models and network simulations. Most of network performances are improved rather than in compared with traditional greedy protocols.

This paper proposed "Priority Scheduling and MultiPath Routing Protocol (RRPS) for preventing communication disruption in the urban environment" to minimize the disconnection or disruption of V2I and V2V communication in the urban environment where communication is frequently disconnected according to density. The flow of the RRPS is explained as follows. RSU Request Priority Scheduling (RRPS) is used to apply the priority of the request message prior to reaching the end line by using the Start Line and End Line, which are the management areas of the RSU). This paper also proposed MPRP (Multi Path Routing Protocol) design to set up the multipath to the destination. As a result, the proposed RRPS improves the processing efficiency of V2I by applying priority scheduling to the message of the vehicle requesting the information in the RSU, and can prevent the communication disconnection. Thereby, it is improved the transmission success probability.

Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) cause link disconnection problems due to the rapid speed and the frequent moving direction change of vehicles. Link disconnection in vehicle-to-vehicle communication is an important issue that must be solved because it decreases the reliability of packet forwarding. From the characteristics of VANETs, greedy forwarding protocols using the position information based on the inter-vehicle distance have gained attention. However, greedy forwarding protocols do not perform well in the urban environment where the direction of the vehicle changes greatly. It is because greedy forwarding protocols select the neighbor vehicle that is closest to the destination vehicle as the next transmission vehicle. In this paper, we propose a greedy anycast forwarding (GAF) protocol to improve the reliability of the inter-vehicle communication. The proposed GAF protocol combines the greedy forwarding scheme and the anycast forwarding method. Simulation results show that the GAF protocol can provide a better packet delivery rate than existing greedy forwarding protocols.
