Online Multi-Task Learning and Wearable Biosensor-based Detection of Multiple Seniors' Stress in Daily Interaction with the Urban Environment

  • Wearable biosensors have the potential to non-invasively and continuously monitor seniors' stress in their daily interaction with the urban environment, thereby enabling to address the stress and ultimately advance their outdoor mobility. However, current wearable biosensor-based stress detection methods have several drawbacks in field application due to their dependence on batch-learning algorithms. First, these methods train a single classifier, which might not account for multiple subjects' different physiological reactivity to stress. Second, they require a great deal of computational power to store and reuse all previous data for updating the signle classifier. To address this issue, we tested the feasibility of online multi-task learning (OMTL) algorithms to identify multiple seniors' stress from electrodermal activity (EDA) collected by a wristband-type biosensor in a daily trip setting. As a result, OMTL algorithms showed the higher test accuracy (75.7%, 76.2%, and 71.2%) than a batch-learning algorithm (64.8%). This finding demonstrates that the OMTL algorithms can strengthen the field applicability of the wearable biosensor-based stress detection, thereby contributing to better understanding the seniors' stress in the urban environment and ultimately advancing their mobility.

Analysis on the Change and Its Cause of Income Distribution before and after the Financial Crisis: Income Mobility Perspective

  • Income inequality in Korea has increased after the economic crisis, and the main reason for the widening of income distribution is due to the increase of the unemployed when analyzed using the Urban Household Report(UHR). However, income inequality has not decreased although the rate of unemployment decreased after 2000. Further data bases for income-related statistics are necessary to examine the exact causes of changing income inequality as a whole since the UHR covers only statistics on urban employees' wage and salary in Korea.

통행거리빈도분포를 활용한 고속도로 기능 평가 개선 연구 (A study on improving the evaluation of motorway functions using Trip Length Frequency Distribution(TLFD))

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an index for evaluating the function of a new motorway using the travel distance frequency distribution (TLFD) calculated using the vehicle travel route big data, and to overcome the limitations of the evaluation through the existing traffic volume. The mobility evaluation index of motorways was developed by applying it to the TLFD data table in 2019. The smaller the value of the mobility evaluation index of the link is calculated, the more it is a link with mainly short-distance travel, and the higher the value of the mobility evaluation index, the more it means a link with mainly long-distance travel. The accessibility evaluation index was calculated through the result of the mobility evaluation index of all motorways developed, and all motorways were grouped into three groups using K-means clustering. Group A was found to exist inside a large city and consisted of motorways with many short-distance traffic, Group B was investigated as acting as an arterial between groups, and Group C was classified as a motorway consisting mainly of long-distance traffic connecting large cities and large cities. This study is significant in developing a new motorway function evaluation index that can overcome the limitations of motorway function evaluation through the existing traffic volume. It is expected that this study can be a reasonable comprehensive indicator in the operation and planning process of motorways.

  • 도심 항공 모빌리티(UAM)는 도시의 교통 혼잡과 환경 문제에 혁신적인 해결책을 제공하는 새로운 교통수단으로 부상하고 있다. 특히 전기수직이착륙(eVTOL) 항공기를 통해 도심 내 이동성을 향상시키고 교통 혼잡을 감소시키며 환경오염을 줄이는 데 기여할 것으로 기대된다. 그러나 UAM 시스템의 성공적인 구현과 운영은 센서 기술과 같은 고도로 발전된 기술적 인프라에 의존을 많이 하게 된다. 이러한 센서 기술 중에서도 3D LiDAR (light detection and ranging) 시스템은 복잡한 도심 환경에서 비행체가 장애물을 감지하고 경로를 생성하는 데 필수적이다. 본 논문은 3D LiDAR를 이용한 객체 검출 기능의 중요성과 성능을 중심으로 LiDAR 기반 인지 솔루션 개발의 도전 과제에 초점을 맞추며, LiDAR 데이터 처리 알고리즘과 객체 검출 방법론을 통합하여 비행체의 안전 운항에 기여하는 인지 솔루션의 효과를 실험적으로 검증한다.

(비-)장소로서 도시 기계 공간 -대구 지하철 공간의 기호적 재현에 대한 해석- (Urban Machine Space as (Non-)Place: Interpreting Semiotic Representations of Subway Space in Daegu)

  • 본 논문은 국지적 이동성의 도시 기계 공간인 지하철 공간의 기호적 재현을 공간, 시간, 장소의 의미에서 탐구한다. 제2절은 기존 연구에서 제시된 이동성의 도시 공간의 전반적 특징을 '기계 공간', '(비-)장소', '인지 지도'의 개념을 중심으로 검토한다. 제3절은 대구 지하철 공간에 대한 '공간적' 및 '시간적' 재현의 기호들을 해석하고, 그 기호적 재현의 의미를 제시한다. 이를 통해 지하철 공간에 상호 조화적으로 혹은 모순적으로 공존하는 기호 경관들이 그 공간을 다중적, 복합적인 기술-사회 공간으로 생산한다는 것을 밝힌다. 지하철 공간의 공간적-시간적 재현은 한편으로는 '(비-)장소', 다른 한편으로는 '장소'의 공간을 형성하며 또한 한편으로는 '기억', 다른 한편으로는 '망각'의 공간화를 수반한다. 지하철 공간은 사람들이 이동하는 '이동성' 의 공간만이 아니라 기계 및 도시 공간을 바라는 방식에 영향을 주는 '정체성'의 공간으로 생각되어야 한다.

  • 최근 항공산업 분야의 최대 이슈로 부각되고 있는 UAM(Urban Air Mobility)은 국내 뿐아니라 국제적으로 많은 관심이 집중되고 있다. 현재 우리나라는 미래 K-UAM 운용개념서 제정 등 정부 및 산학연을 중심으로 활발한 연구가 진행되고 있으나 아직까지 비행안전의 핵심 요소인 K-UAM 운용 환경에 대한 위험도 평가 방안은 마련되어 있지 않다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 유럽 JARUS(Joint Authorities for Rulemaking on Unmanned Systems)에서 제정한 SORA(Specific Operation Risk Assessment) 모델을 적용하여 정부가 추진하고 있는 화물 운송 목적의 K-UAM 운용 환경 및 특정 회랑을 대상으로 위험도를 평가하고 그에 따른 결과 분석을 통해 위험도 완화를 위한 정책 및 기술적 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

  • 본 연구는 도심항공모빌리티(UAM; urban air mobility)의 안전하고 효율적인 운항을 위해 SWIM (system wide information management) 기술 기반의 전략적 비행계획 관리를 위한 FF-ICE (flight and flow - information for a collaborative environment)의 활용 및 구현 방안을 제안한다. SWIM은 항공 교통 데이터의 표준화된 인프라로, 다양한 이해관계자 간의 원활한 정보 교환을 가능하게 한다. FF-ICE는 SWIM 내에서의 비행 계획 관련 정보를 공유하기 위해 ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization)에서 제시한 개념으로, 본 논문에서는 이를 활용한 UAM의 비행계획 관리방안, 비행계획서의 제출 절차, 유효성 검증, 운용성 검증, 상태정보 관리 방법 등을 제시하고 구현하였으며, SWIM 인프라를 통해 기능을 확인하였다. FF-ICE를 이용한 UAM의 비행계획 관리는 전략적인 단계에서의 비행계획 검증을 통한 UAM 운항의 안전성과 효율성을 향상할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explain the pivotal role of the travel forecasting process in urban transportation planning. This study emphasizes the use of travel forecasting models to anticipate future traffic. Method: This study examines the methodology used in urban travel demand modeling within transportation planning, specifically focusing on the Urban Transportation Modeling System (UTMS). UTMS is designed to predict various aspects of urban transportation, including quantities, temporal patterns, origin-destination pairs, modal preferences, and optimal routes in metropolitan areas. By analyzing UTMS and its operational framework, this research aims to enhance an understanding of contemporary urban travel demand modeling practices and their implications for transportation planning and urban mobility management. Result: The result of this study provides a nuanced understanding of travel dynamics, emphasizing the influence of variables such as average income, household size, and vehicle ownership on travel patterns. Furthermore, the attraction model highlights specific areas of significance, elucidating the role of retail locations, non-retail areas, and other locales in shaping the observed dynamics of transportation. Conclusion: The study methodically addressed urban travel dynamics in a four-ward area, employing a comprehensive modeling approach involving trip generation, attraction, distribution, modal split, and assignment. The findings, such as the prevalence of motorbikes as the primary mode of transportation and the impact of adjusted traffic patterns on reduced travel times, offer valuable insights for urban planners and policymakers in optimizing transportation networks. These insights can inform strategic decisions to enhance efficiency and sustainability in urban mobility planning.

Examining the dynamics among multiple actors through the mobilization of Public Procurement for Innovation in South Korea

  • This research focuses on examining the mobilization of Public Procurement for Innovation (PPI) in South Korea as a case study in technology innovation. By using the lens of policy mobility and qualitative research methodologies, it emphasizes the circulation of PPI is an outcome of an assemblage of multiple actors who are responsible for the introduction of PPI. The Public Procurement Service in South Korea has actively sought to understand and adopt the concept of PPI from developed countries. This initiative has been localized under the umbrella of 'innovative technology and product.' Throughout the mobilization, a cadre of technocrats, the Innovation Procurement Competence Center plays a pivotal role, and particularly encourages Small and Medium Enterprises to bolster their export capabilities, resulting in a reciprocal circulation of policies and programs from South Korea to foreign countries as well as within intra-urban area. Consequently, the above findings, revealing the nuanced evolution of policy mobility in local contexts, hold practical significance as they provide valuable insights and lessons for urban studies.
