A Study on the Establishment of Urban Life Safety Abnormalities Detection Service Using Multi-Type Complex Sensor Information (다종 복합센서 정보를 활용한 도심 생활안전 이상감지 서비스 구축방안 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present a service construction plan using multiple complex sensor information to detect abnormal situations in urban life safety that are difficult to identify on CCTV. Method: This study selected service scenarios based on actual testbed data and analyzed service importance for local government control center operators, which are main users. Result: Service scenarios were selected as detection of day and night dynamic object, Detection of sudden temperature changes, and Detection of time-series temperature changes. As a result of AHP analysis, walking and mobility collision risk situation services and fire foreshadowing detection services leading to immediate major disasters were highly evaluated. Conclusion: This study is significant in proposing a plan to build an anomaly detection service that can be used in local governments based on real data. Integration of Space Syntax Theory and Logit Model for Walkability Evaluation in Urban Pedestrian Networks (도시 보행네트워크의 보행성 평가를 위한 공간구문론과 Logit 모형의 통합방안)

  • Ensuring walkability in a city where pedestrians and vehicles coexist is an issue of critical importance. The relative relationship between vehicle transit and walkability improvements complicates the evaluation of walkability, which thus necessitates the formation of a quantitative standard by which a methodological measurement of walkability can be achieved inside the pedestrian network. Therefore, a model is determined whereby quantitative indices such as, but not limited to, experiences of accessibility, mobility, and convenience within the network are estimated. This research proposes the integration of space syntax theory and the logit path choice model in the evaluation of walkability. Space syntax theory assesses adequacy of the constructed pedestrian network through calculation of the link integration value, while the logit model estimates its safety, mobility, and accessibility using probability. The advantage of the integrated model hence lies in its ability to sufficiently reflect such evaluation measures as the integration value, mobility convenience, accessibility potential, and safety experienced by the demand in a quantitative manner through probability computation. In this research, the Dial Algorithm is used to arrive at a solution to the logit model. This process requires that the physical distance of the pedestrian network and the perceptive distance of space syntax theory be made equivalent. In this, the research makes use of network expansion to reflect wait times. The evaluation index calculated through the integrated model is reviewed and using the results of this sample network, the applicability of the model is assessed.

A Study on a Way to Induce Drivers' Voluntary Traffic Behavior Change by Using AHP (AHP기법을 활용한 승용차 운전자의 자발적인 교통행동변화 유도방안 연구)

  • The main reason for urban traffic problems is the increasing in the use of private cars. In order to solve this problem, strong traffic demand management policies such as the collection of congestion tolls and the crackdown on freight vehicles are emerging. Now, however, it is necessary to seek ways for users to make changes in traffic behavior through direct communication between public agencies and passenger car users. As a technique to make this possible, mobility management, which aims to use rational passenger cars by inducing behavior change through individual consciousness change, has recently been proved to be effective in overseas. Therefore, this study concluded that the introduction of MM, which emphasizes individual voluntary behavior change, is necessary at present. In order to investigate the ways of inducing voluntary changes in traffic behavior of passenger car users, a questionnaire survey was conducted on traffic experts and the priorities of voluntary traffic behavior change measures were calculated using AHP. As a result of the analysis, it was shown that "to actively appeal to change the traffic behavior by using the mass media" was the top priority. The next priority were in order of company education for the change of traffic behavior, education for the school, and small-scale workshops.

Analysis of Autonomous Vehicles Risk Cases for Developing Level 4+ Autonomous Driving Test Scenarios: Focusing on Perceptual Blind (Lv 4+ 자율주행 테스트 시나리오 개발을 위한 자율주행차량 위험 사례 분석: 인지 음영을 중심으로)

  • With the advancement of autonomous vehicle (AV) technology, autonomous driving on real roads has become feasible. However, there are challenges in achieving complete autonomy due to perceptual blind areas, which occur when the AV's sensory range or capabilities are limited or impaired by surrounding objects or environmental factors. This study aims to analyze AV accident patterns and safety issues of perceptual blind area that may occur in urban areas, with the goal of developing test scenarios for Level 4+ autonomous driving. It utilized AV accident data from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to compare accident patterns and characteristics between AVs and conventional vehicles based on activation status of autonomous mode. It also categorized AV disengagement data to identify types and real-world cases of disengagements caused by perceptual blind areas. The analysis revealed that AVs exhibit different accident types due to their safe driving maneuvers, and three types of perceptual blind area scenarios were identified. The findings of this study serve as crucial foundational data for developing Level 4+ autonomous driving test scenarios, enabling the design of efficient strategies to mitigate perceptual blind areas in various scenarios. This, in turn, is expected to contribute to the effective evaluation and enhancement of AV driving safety on real roads.

Development and User Study on Visualization Tools of Origin-Destination Data for Social Problems (Origin-Destination 기반 시각화 도구의 개발 및 사회 문제 해결을 위한 사용자 연구)

  • Mobility data is important to understand social phenomena and problem. Previous studies have utilized Origin-Destination (OD) visualization methods to represent human's mobility. However, the effectiveness of visualization tools as a method for understanding social phenomena remains unexplored. Therefore, in this study, we developed a visualization tool called SeoulOD-Vis to facilitate understanding social issues. It included three different modules: map visualization, condition selection, and detailed information presentation. We recruited 28 participants to evaluate the SeoulOD-Vis and compared it with a publicly available visualization tool. The results suggested that the SeoulOD-Vis had higher usability and problem-solving performances. Interview results suggested that it attributed to its 'condition selection' and 'detailed information presentation' modules. Our results will contribute to develop visualization tools to solve social problems using mobility data.

Intergenerational Transmission of Poverty in Korea (한국에서의 빈곤의 세대간 이전)

  • This study analyze the intergenerational transmission of poverty in Korea, using the first wave of Korea Welfare Panel Study. For this analysis, I produced poverty transition tables across generation and estimated logistic models to explore the effects of parent's poverty on the children's adulthood poverty. As the results, I found that parent's poverty reduced children's education level and then the low education level increased the likelihood that children experience poverty in their adulthood. In other words, parent's poverty might increase children's adulthood poverty through the mediating effects of education level. This mediating effects were also identified in the analyses by group and cohort. From the analyses by group, daughters rather than sons, those from urban rather than rural area, and the older cohort rather than younger cohort showed greater intergenerational transmission of poverty.

  • We propose an intelligent ribbon road network for automatic vehicle simulation, and a real-time algorithm for large-scale, realistic traffic simulation based on artificial energy functions. Our method reconstructs a road network automatically from both GIS (Geographic Information System) real-world data and synthetic models. Such automatic road network helps us to easily simulate almost every possible scenario such as intersections, ramps, etc. In order to simulate agents' movement, we design car-environment interaction energy and car-car interaction energy functions. Car agents move along the road network according to the proposed energy functions while avoiding collisions with other car agents.

  • The robotic automation in NonDestructive Testing(NDT) is a promising field of research and it helps to expand the applications of NDT enormously. Especially, in the case of pipelines which are widely used in various industrial facilities, it is required to secure adequate ways of inspection in the usual maintenance activitites. In this paper, we present a robot system for inpipe inspection of underground urban gas pipelines. The robot is configured as an articulated structure like a snake with a tether cable. Two active driving vehicles are located in front and rear of the system, respectively and passive modules such as a NonDestructive Testing module and a control module are chained between the active vehicles. The proposed system has outstanding mobility by employing a new steering mechanism called Double Active Universal Joint, which makes it possible to cope with complicated configurations of underground pipelines. Characteristic features of the system are described and the construction of the system is briefly outlined.

  • The advanced information and communication technology gives vehicles another role of the third digital space, merging a physical space with a virtual space in a ubiquitous society. In the ubiquitous environment, the vehicle becomes a sensor node, which has a computing and communication capability in the digital space of wired and wireless network. An intelligent vehicle information system with a remote control and diagnosis is one of the future vehicle systems that we can expect in the ubiquitous environment. However, for the intelligent vehicle system, many issues such as vehicle mobility, in-vehicle communication, service platform and network convergence should be resolved. In this paper, an in-vehicle gateway is presented for an intelligent vehicle information system to make an access to heterogeneous networks. It gives an access to the server systems on the internet via CDMA-based hierarchical module architecture. Some experiments was made to find out how long it takes to communicate between a vehicle's intelligent information system and an external server in the various environment. The results show that the average response time amounts to 776ms at fixec place, 707ms at rural area and 910ms at urban area.

A Development of Models for Analyzing Traffic Accident Injury Severity for Signalized Intersections (신호교차로 안전성 향상을 위한 사고심각도 모형개발)

  • As the interest in traffic safety has been increasing recently, social movement is being made to reduce the number of traffic accidents and the view on improving the mobility of the existing roads is being converted into on establishing traffic safety as a priority. The increase of traffic accidents related to an intersection in a state that traffic accidents are decreasing overall may suggests the necessity to investigate the specific causes. In addition, we have to consider them when establishing the measures against traffic accidents in a intersection by investigating and analyzing the influences and factors that may affect traffic accidents. To induce the accident severity model, we collected the factors that affect accidents and then applied the Poisson Regression Model among nonlinear regression analysis by verifying the distribution of variables. As a result of the analysis, it turned out that the volume of traffic on main roads, the right turn ratio on sub-roads, the number of ways out on sub-roads, the number of exclusive roads for a left turn, the signals for a right turn on main roads, and an intersect angle were the factors that affect the accident severity.
