  • The purpose of this study is to propose a new development method for urban residential area, considering the urban site and development conditions rather than just meeting the development limit and regulations. Gwangju Metropolitan city is investigated as a case city and the new method verifies a decision process of pertinent development types and housing forms in urban blocks. The consequences of this study are summarized as follows. The process of a new development method consists of four steps; First, current conditions of the residential area of Gwangju are analysed in order to find out the site characteristics and housing development situations. And the theoretical research is made to set up the development goals and objectives, regarding current trends and future paradigms of residential development. Next, the suitable development sites are selected, and their site characteristics and relevant development types for the future are compared and matched with a close analysis. Finally some pertinent housing forms for each development site are suggested, which fit well in terms of urban context and are appropriate for building up sustainable city in the future.

  • This study examines the process of urban formation in the city of Yanji. The analysis is done by the change of street pattern and major facility location in a timely manner by appling space syntax method. This research categorizes the pattern of the urban growth focused on two urban forms, street and major buildings, in the city and is offered of the meaning of the first value on interpretation of the urban growth in the city of Yanji. The result of the research are as follows. First, the period of the city transformation is divided into four stage; intuitive period, grid-iron formative period, consolidation period, and urban expansion period. Second, characteristics of each stage have been analyzed. At the first stage, the city started to frame along both buildings and streets which were placed without a plan. At the second stage, the city was planned and constructed into new grid-iron pattern ignoring existing context by Jananese colony. At the consolidation period, the road system expands from the city center toward suburban. At the last expansion period, the shape of the city has complicated its shape with complex road system. This study contributes to provide a basic analysis and data to investigate how the Yanji city has evolved over period of time. But further continuous research should be done for future urban development of the Yanji city.

  • Urbanization concerned with concentration of population, activity and expanding the urban changes a natural environmental, and human activity in urban area causes the appearance of a new hydrologic cycle system. This study is carried out the analysis for the characteristics of runoff variation in urban areas with progress of urbanization. To simulate the mechanics of runoffs on small urban watershed, the ILLUDAS model is used in this study. From the analysis of the urban-runoff processes in small urban area with the progress of urbanization, the following conclusions is obtained. It is found in the results of calculated geographical parameter that peak time is quickened by 15∼35 minutes rather than the urbanization before. Also, in the analysis of the peak rate of runoff, the peak flow rise by 60 % than the urbanization before.

  • This study is to describe the changes of spatial structure of Korean traditional housing in urban context with the following preconditions. Firstly, Chosun Hanyang's urban housing should be classified as it's own type. Secondly, Chosun's traditional housing accomplishes a complete urban housing type in Japanese colonial period through the stream of time. And the purpose of this study is as followings. First is to find out the process of changes of urban housing in urban context from the latter period of Chosun Dynasty to 1960's. Second is to find out the origin of spatial structure of urban house which is being kept throughout the above changes. Third is to find out the unique characteristics of urban house and the fundamental differences with folk houses in province.

  • The urbanity of high-rise buildings does not simply reference their physical characteristics but also encompasses their impact on the overall urban environment and the daily lives of citizens. This involves the economic benefits, social development, urban culture and public activities that high-rise buildings bring to a city. High-rise buildings are an important aspect of urban development and play a crucial role in providing public services in high-density urban habitats. However, to ensure that their contribution to the city is positive, it is essential to take into account their impact on surrounding buildings and the built environment. This paper analyzes their urban attributes and value system and summarizes their current development status. In short, as the demand for public services continues to evolve, it is necessary for high-rise buildings to keep up with these changes by continuously enhancing their urbanity.

  • In this study, the change characteristics of urban spatial structure in Daegu were analyzed connecting with urban planning for efficient urban management. Urban development process from 1970 to 2010 in Daegu was analyzed utilizing Getis-Ord $G_i^*$ methodology, a spatial statistical method, and it was identified that Daegu was in the stage of disurbanization. However, as Daegu orients multi-nuclei city, it was difficult to explain the stage of urban development after disurbanization in 2000. Accordingly, to analyze detailed changes in spatial structure in multi-centric areas after 2000, population, land price and employment factor changes were analyzed using Bachi Measurement. According to analytical results, multi-centralization process has been continued in Daegu. Urban core area and Chilgok area showed spatial structure change into distribution process, Ansim area into concentration process, and Seongseo and Talseo area into concentration and distribution process. Therefore, urban planning considering the regional characteristics are needed for efficient urban management.

  • Due to recent large earthquakes around the world, there are increasing social needs for seismic safety of urban railway infrastructures. Urban railway infrastructures are applied different seismic performance evaluation procedure each of overground structures, underground structures and bridge structures, and the characteristics of urban railway infrastructures are not properly considered in the procedure. This study presents problems in the existing seismic performance evaluation procedure of urban railway infrastructures and proposes necessities of unified evaluation procedure.

  • Studies on classification of national roads have been continued, but there is little research on the classification of urban arterial roads. Due to the increase of traffic volume, urban arterial roads do not perform well as main roads. In this paper, the function of urban arterial road was established by using cluster analysis using traffic characteristics. Traffic characteristics such as traffic volume, weekend coefficient and speed coefficient were used to establish the functions of 55 main arterial roads in Seoul. The results of this paper are compared with those of the method using AADT. The method using AADT classifies the characteristics according to the traffic volume of the whole lane. In this paper, however, the results are derived using the traffic volume per lane reflecting the actual traffic volume. In addition, the functional classification of the arterial roads in Seoul was compared with the results of this paper to verify that the traffic characteristics were reflected. As a result, the method presented in this paper is more effective in showing traffic characteristics than the current highway functional classification method, and the functional classification system will be helpful for road extension and planning design.

  • Urban area is a representative environment of wireless channels in the mobile communication, building density has a different distribution depending on the location. Building density has affect to propagation prediction For this reason, building density is expected to affect to the channel characteristics, we need to analyze it. We measured channel characteristics in urban areas of Jeju island by channel sounder and $4{\times}4$ antenna. Channel characteristics considering the building density were derived based on the measured data in the urban area. In this paper, the measurement data is analyzed and channel characteristics are derived through MIMO Channel measurements at 700 MHz considering the building density in the urban area.

  • Since the 21st century, major cities in Vietnam faced housing shortage and there was a lack in office spaces. As a result, construction companies from over seas provided mixed-use apartment as a new type of urban housing. A large number of mixed-use apartments are built in big cities such as Hanoi and Ho-chi-minh City. However, research on mixed-use housing in Vietnam is insufficient. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to understand the characteristics of mixed-use apartments and have an effect on the development of urban housing in Vietnam. This study focuses on examining the planning characteristics of mixed-use apartments in Hanoi. The research will be based on 10 mixed-use apartments that are already built or expected to be built in a few years. Therefore, this study starts by looking into the history of the Vietnamese urban housing. The study focuses on the transformation of urban housing since 2000. Then, the study will mainly focus on examining the mixed-use apartments in different aspects, in order to analyze the planning characteristics.
