Friction pendulums typically suffer from poor uplift-restraining. To improve the uplift-restraining and enhance the energy dissipation capacity, this article proposed a composite isolation device based on electromagnetic forces. The device was constructed based on a remote control system to achieve semi-active control of the composite isolation device. This article introduces the theory and design of an electromagnetic chuck-friction pendulum system (ECFPS) and derives the theoretical equation for the ECFPS based on Maxwell's electromagnetic attraction equation to construct the proposed model. By conducting 1:3 scale tests on the electromagnetic device, the gaps between the practical, theoretical, and simulation results were analyzed, and the accuracy and effectiveness of the theoretical equation for the ECFPS were investigated. The hysteresis and uplift-restraining performance of ECFPS were analyzed by adjusting the displacement amplitude, vertical load, and input current of the simulation model. The data obtained from the scale test were consistent with the theoretical and simulated data. Notably, the hysteresis area of the ECFPS was 35.11% larger than that of a conventional friction pendulum. Lastly, a six-story planar frame structure was established through SAP2000 for a time history analysis. The isolation performances of ECFPS and FPS were compared. The results revealed that, under horizontal seismic action, the horizontal seismic response of the bottom layer of the ECFPS isolation structure is greater than that of the FPS, the horizontal vibration response of the top layer of the ECFPS isolation structure is smaller than that of the FPS, and the axial force at the bottom of the columns of the ECFPS isolation structure is smaller than that of the FPS isolation structure. Therefore, the reliable uplift-restraining performance is facilitated by the electromagnetic force generated by the device.
This study was carried out to estimate structural stabilities in respect of ground footings of plastic greenhouses on reclaimed lands. A 6m-wide multi-span plastic greenhouse with steel spiral piles as well as two 8.2m-wide single-span greenhouses with steel spiral piles and continuous pipe foundation respectively were built up on a reclaimed land with a SPT N-Value of 2 and measured how much the greenhouses were lifted up and subsided. In addition, the uplift capacity of three kinds of spiral piles(${\phi}50$, ${\phi}75$ and ${\phi}100$) was determined on a nearby reclaimed land. The results showed that the greenhouses with spiral piles had a slight vertical displacement like moving up and down but the scales of the rising up and sinking were negligible when compared to that of the greenhouses. The vertical displacement of the multi-span greenhouse ranged from +9.0mm(uplift) to -11.5mm(subsidence). As for the single-span greenhouses with spiral piles and continuous pipe foundation, the measurements showed that it varied from +1.3mm to -7.7mm and from +0.9mm to -11.2mm, respectively. The allowable uplift capacity of spiral piles could all be determined under criteria of ultimate load and accordingly had a value of 0.40kN, 1.0kN and 2.5kN, respectively. It was not entirely certain enough to make a final judgement on structural stabilities in respect of ground footings, it appeared likely however that the greenhouses with steel spiral piles was tentatively observed without any problems on reclaimed lands within the period.
This paper presents the results of full-scale uplift load tests performed on 24 passive anchors grouted to various lengths at Okchun and Changnyong site. Rock anchors were installed over a wide range of rock types and qualities with a fixed anchored depth of 1~6 m. The majority of installations used D51 mm high grade steel rebar to induce rock failure prior to rod failure. However, a few installations included the use of D32 mm rebar at relatively deeper anchored depth so as to induce rod failure. In many tests, rock failure was reached and the ultimate loads were recorded along with observations of the shape and extent of the failure surface. In addition to field tests, laboratory pullout tests were conducted to determine bond strength and bond stress-shear slip relation at the tendon/grout interface when a corrosion protection sheath is installed in the cement-based grout. The test results show that the ultimate tendon-grout bond strength is measured from 18~25% of unconfined compressive strength of grout. One of the important results from these tests is that the measured strains along the corrosion protection sheath were so small that practically the reduction of bond strength by the presence of sheath would be negligible.

Six prototype field tests (five 1/8 and one 1/2 scale tests) have been conducted in order to determine the uplift resistance of deep foundation for transmission line structures. Test sites, located in the city of Eumseng in Choongbuk province, are classified as gneiss. These test results reveal failures not along the foundation-rock interface but either along the damaged surrounding rock mass caused by excavation or along the pre-existing rock joint. Test results also show the uplift resistance which is 20 $\sim$ 30% higher than the current design strength of side friction. In addition to fold tests, four concrete core samples between the liner plate and the surrounding rock mass have been obtained from the existing transmission foundations to study the effect of the liner plate which is installed prior to placing concrete. The compressive strength of these concrete core samples shows 63 $\sim$ 72% of the strength at the time of foundation construction. Side frictional resistance based on such less compacted concrete reaches satisfying uplift design strength.

The present study mainly focuses on the inelastic stress analysis of the 1/4 scale prestressed concrete containment vessel model(PCCV) under internal pressure and evaluates not only failure mode but also ultimate pressure capacity of the PCCV. Inelastic analysis is carried out 2D axisymmertic FE model and 3D FE model using four concrete material models which are Drucker-Prager Model, Chen-Chen Model, Damaged Plasticity Model and Menetrey-Willam Model. The uplift phenomenon of the basemat is considered in the 2D axisymmetric FE models. It is found from the 2D axisymmetric analysis results that both of Drucker-Prager model and Damaged Plasticity Model have a good performance and the uplift of the basemat is too small to influence on the global behavior of the PCCV. The FE analysis results on the ultimate pressure and failure mode have a good agreement with experimental results.

This study is an numerical study of predicting the behavior of anchor embedded in weathered rocks, subjected to uplift loads, about ultimate pullout capacity and the failure mechanism. Factors influencing the behavior of anchors were investigated by reviewing the data about in-situ anchor tests performing numerical modelling with changing the bondage length of anchor, diameter of anchor body and diameter of tenden, and by Correlations between those factors were evaluated to apply them to predict the behavior of anchors. As results of numerical analysis, a linear relationship between bondage length, diameter of anchor body and diameter of tenden with ultimate pullout capacity was obtained on the one hand, from the result of numerical analysis changing the Young's modulus of weathered rock, this parameter was found to inflence to load-displacement and ultimate pullout capacity within the range of 10%, which was mot so significant to affect.

In order to provide design data support for reducing gale damage of single-span greenhouses, this paper experimentally evaluated the uplift capacity of a rafter pipe and continuous pipe foundation (anti-disaster standard), usually used for single-span greenhouses according to compaction ratio, embedded depth, and soil texture. In the reclaimed soil (Silt loam) and the farmland soil (Sandy loam), the ultimate uplift capacities of rafter pipe were 72.8kgf and 60.7kgf, respectively, and those of continuous pipe foundation were 452.7kgf and 450.3kgf, respectively at an embedded depth of 50cm and compaction rate of 85% (the hardest ground condition). The results showed that the ultimate uplift capacity of continuous pipe foundation was significantly improved at more than 6 times that of the rafter pipe. The soil texture considered in this paper had a sand content of 35%~59% and a silt content of 39%~58%, and it was shown that the ultimate uplift capacity did not have a significant difference depending on soil texture, and these results show that installing the rafter pipe and continuous pipe foundation while maintaining appropriate compaction conditions can give an advantage in securing stability in the farmland of greenhouses without significantly being influenced by soil texture. Based on the results of this paper, it was determined that maintaining a compaction rate above 75% for the continuous pipe foundation and above 85% for the rafter pipe was advantageous for securing stability in greenhouses. Especially when continuous pipe foundation of anti-disaster standard was applied, it was determined to be significantly advantageous in acquiring stability in greenhouses to prevent climate disaster.

Recently, the construction of coastal structures and high-rise structures against the horizontal and uplift forces increases with the developing the coastal developments. Especially the application of belled tension pile as foundation type to effectively resist uplift force is increasing in coastal structures. However, research on pullout resistance of belled tension pile has been limited and not yet been fully performed. Therefore, the pullout load tests of belled tension piles in four overseas sites were performed, then the bearing capacity, characteristics on load-displacement of piles and load distribution considering skin friction were investigated in this paper. In addition, the limit pullout bearing capacity calculated by the three-dimensional finite element analysis and theoretical methods were compared with values of in-situ test.
Pack micropiles were recently developed to improve pile capacity of general micropiles. Pack micropiles were made by warping thread bar or steel pipe of general micropile by geotexlile pack and grouting inside the pack with pressure. According to the pressure, the boring hole could be enlarged. A series of pile uplift tests were performed on three micropiles. Two out of the three piles were the pack micropiles and the other was the general micropile, in which a thread bar was used in the boring hole. According to the pressure applied to the pack micropiles, the diameter of boring hole was enlarged from 152 mm to 220 mm. Unit skin friction mobilized on side surfaces of micropiles increased with displacement of pile head and reached on a constant value, which represents that the relative displacement between piles (or thread bar) and soils was reached on critical state. And the uplift resistance of pack micropile was higher than that of general micropile. Two reasons can be considered: One is that the frictional surface increases due to enlarging diameter of boring holes and the other is that the unit skin friction could increase due to compressing effect of surrounding soils by soil displacement as much as the enlarging volume of boring hole. The compression effect appeared at deeper layer rather than surface layer. The unit skin friction mobilized on micropiles with small diameter was higher than the ones on large bored piles.
Recently the large scale civil engineering projects are being implemented by reclaiming the sea or utilizing seashore and river embankment areas. The reclaimed land and utilized seashore are mostly soft ground that doesn't have sufficient bearing capacity. This soft ground consists of fine-grained soil such as clayey and silty soils or large void soil like peat or loose sand. It has high ground water table and it may cause the failure and crock of building foundation by uplift pressure and ground water leakage. In this study, the permittivity and the transmissivity were evaluated with the applied normal pressure in the laboratory. The laboratory model tests were conducted by utilizing geocomposite drainage system for draining the water out to release the uplift pressure. The soil used in the laboratory drainage test was dredged soil from the reclaimed land where uplift pressure problems can arise in soil condition. Geocomposite drainage system was installed at the bottom of apparatus and dredged soil was layered with compaction. Subsequently the water pressure was supplied from the top of specimen and the quantities of drainage and the pore water pressure were measured at each step water pressure. The results of laboratory measurements were compared with theoretical values. For the evaluation of propriety of laboratory drainage test, 2-D finite elements analysis that can analyze the distribution and the transferring of pore water pressure was conducted and compared with laboratory test results.
