  • As continued scaling becomes increasingly difficult, 3D integration has emerged as a viable solution to achieve higher bandwidths and good power efficiency. 3D integration can be defined as a technology involving the stacking of multiple processed wafers containing integrated circuits on top of each other with vertical interconnects between the wafers. This type of 3D structure can improve performance levels, enable the integration of devices with incompatible process flows, and reduce form factors. Through silicon vias (TSVs), which directly connect stacked structures die-to-die, are an enabling technology for future 3D integrated systems. TSVs filled with copper using an electro-plating method are investigated in this study. DC and pulses are used as a current source for the electro-plating process as a means of via filling. A TiN barrier and Ru seed layers are deposited by plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) with thicknesses of 10 and 30 nm, respectively. All samples electroplated by the DC current showed defects, even with additives. However, the samples electroplated by the pulse current showed defect-free super-filled via structures. The optimized condition for defect-free bottom-up super-filling was established by adjusting the additive concentrations in the basic plating solution of copper sulfate. The optimized concentrations of JGB and SPS were found to be 10 and 20 ppm, respectively.

  • There exist scaling relations that link the mass of supermassive black holes with both the velocity dispersion and the mass of the central stellar cusp of their host galaxies. This implies that galaxies co-evolve with their central black holes, potentially through the feedback from actively accreting supermassive black holes (AGN). We use integral field spectroscopy data from the 8.2m Gemini-North telescope to investigate ionized gas outflows in luminous local (z<0.1) Type 2 AGN. Our sample of 6 galaxies was selected based on their [OIII] dust-corrected luminosity (>$10^{42}erg/s$) and signatures of outflows in the [OIII] line profile of their SDSS spectra. These are arguably the best candidates to explore AGN feedback in action since they are < 1% of a large local type 2 AGN SDSS sample selected based on their [OIII] kinematics. Expanding on previously reported results concerning the kinematic decomposition and size determination of these outflows, here we report their photoionization properties and energetics. We find strong evidence that connect the extreme kinematics of the ionized gas with AGN photoionization. The kinematic component related to the AGN-driven outflow is clearly separated from other kinematic components, such as gravitation- or stellar-driven motions, on the velocity and velocity dispersion diagram. Our spatially resolved kinematic analysis reveals that up to 90% of the mass and kinetic energy of the outflow is contained within the central kiloparcec of the galaxy. The total mass and kinetic energy of the outflow correlate well with the AGN bolometric luminosity, resulting in energy conversion efficiencies between 0.01% and 1%. Intriguingly, we detect ubiquitous signs of ongoing circumnuclear star formation. Their small size, the centrally contained mass and energy, and the universally detected circumnuclear star formation cast doubts on the potency of these AGN-driven outflows as agents of negative feedback.

  • Objectives: Smoking is related to periodontal disease and periodontal therapy. So the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of professional tooth cleaning and plaque control instruction (PT & PCI) for smoking behavior. Methods: A total of 151 adults were investigated using the O'Leary Plaque Index (PI), $L\ddot{o}e$ & Silness gingival index (GI) and the number of sextants possessing periodontal pocket (SPP). And adults were given a through dental scaling and Watanabe method for dental plaque control. Follow up examination were conducted after 3 months and compared the pre and post- status. The collected data were analyzed with t-test, paired t-test and one-way analysis of variance. Results: Regardless of smoking behavior, improving effects were identified after PT & PCI on PI, GI and SPP in the whole population. However, the effects of GI improvement were significant in the smoking group alone; those of PI improvement were most significant in the non-smoking group; and those of SPP improvement were more significant in non-smoking and pre-smoking groups than in the smoking group. The shorter period of smoking and the smaller amount of smoking, the greater effects of PT & PCI by smoking-related characteristics. Conclusion: Smoking cessation instruction should necessarily be included in oral health education in that smoking is an important factor to consider in prevention of periodontal diseases and periodontal therapies.

  • This paper deals with the problem of shape-based retrieval in time-series databases. The shape-based retrieval is defined as the operation that searches for the (sub)sequences whose shapes are similar to that of a given query sequence regardless of their actual element values. In this paper, we propose an effective and efficient approach for shape-based retrieval of subsequences. We first introduce a new similarity model for shape-based retrieval that supports various combinations of transformations such as shifting, scaling, moving average, and time warping. For efficient processing of the shape-based retrieval based on the similarity model, we also propose the indexing and query processing methods. To verify the superiority of our approach, we perform extensive experiments with the real-world S&P 500 stock data. The results reveal that our approach successfully finds all the subsequences that have the shapes similar to that of the query sequence, and also achieves significant speedup up to around 66 times compared with the sequential scan method.

  • The size of data generated and collected at industrial sites or in public institutions is growing rapidly. The existing data processing server often handles the increasing data by increasing the performance by scaling up. However, in the big data era, when the speed of data generation is exploding, there is a limit to data processing with a conventional server. To overcome such limitations, a distributed cluster computing system has been introduced that distributes data in a scale-out manner. However, because distributed cluster computing systems distribute data, inefficient use of network bandwidth can degrade the performance of the cluster as a whole. In this paper, we propose a scheme that compresses data when transmitting data in a Hadoop cluster considering network bandwidth. The proposed scheme considers the network bandwidth and the characteristics of the compression algorithm and selects the optimal compression transmission scheme before transmission. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme reduces data transfer time and size.

  • Collagen type I is the most abundant protein in the human body. It shows viscoelastic behavior, which is what confers tendons with their viscoelastic properties. There are two different temperature setting methods in molecular dynamics simulations, namely rescaling and reassignment. The rescaling method maintains the temperature by scaling the given temperature, while the reassignment method sets the temperature according to a Maxwell distribution at the target temperature. We observed time-dependent behavior when the reassignment method was applied in tensile simulation, but not when the rescaling method was applied. Time-dependent behavior was observed only when the reassignment method was applied or when one side of the collagen molecule was stretched to a greater extent than the other side. As result, the collagen is elongated to 80nm, 100nm, 130nm, and 180nm, respectively, when the collagen is pulled by different velocities, 0.5, 1, 2, and 5 Å/ps, up to 40 Å. The results do not provide a detailed physical explanation, but the phenomena illustrated in this result are important for caution when further simulations are performed.

  • In this paper, we present a content-based image retrieval method which is based on the feature extraction in the wavelet transform domain. In order to overcome the drawbacks of the feature vector making up methods which use the global wavelet coefficients in subbands, we utilize the energy value of wavelet coefficients, and the shape-based retrieval of objects is processed by moment which is invariant in translation, scaling, rotation of the objects The proposed methods reduce feature vector size, and make progress performance of classification retrieval which provides fast retrievals times. To offer the abilities of region-based image retrieval, we discussed the image segmentation method which can reduce the effect of an irregular light sources. The image segmentation method uses a region-merging, and candidate regions which are merged were selected by the energy values of high frequency bands in discrete wavelet transform. The region-based image retrieval is executed by using the segmented region information, and the images are retrieved by a color, texture, shape feature vector.

  • Implementation of no tobacco policies in schools is associated with lower tobacco use among teachers and students. In this study we assessed the extent that a school-based intervention for teachers resulted in adoption and implementation of tobacco control policies. From a random sample of government schools ($8^{th}-10^{th}$), 72 were randomized into intervention and control conditions. Intervention included health education programs for teachers and support for tobacco control policy implementation. Adoption and implementation of policies were assessed at baseline and immediately after intervention. All 36 intervention and one control school adopted a tobacco-control policy. Higher enforcement of tobacco-control policy was at post intervention (OR=3.26; CI: 2.35, 4.54) compared to baseline in intervention schools. Some 64% of intervention and 28% control schools showed "improvement" in policy implementation. Adoption and implementation of no tobacco policies was positively impacted by intervention. This study provides support for scaling up of school-based tobacco control interventions to promote school tobacco control policies.
