The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of social support on type 2 diabetes by classifying it into diabetes and impaired fasting blood sugar, a pre-diabetic state. Subjects of this study were 22,846 adults aged 30 years or above who agreed and registered to participate in the "Korean Health Examine Cohort (KOEX)" study that simultaneously collects questionnaires and biological samples at 8 university hospitals around the nation. Normal fasting blood sugar was defined as below 100 mg/dL, and impaired fasting blood sugar was defined as 100~125 mg/dL. Diagnosis of diabetes was defined as fasting blood sugar of 126 mg/dL or above, diagnosis by a doctor, or medication of insulin or oral hypoglycemic agent. Social support groups were divided into 4 groups, and Group 1 (G1) had high positive support and low negative support. This is the reference group with the highest social support. During multivariate analysis, female group (G3) that had high positive support and high negative support showed prevalence of impaired fasting blood sugar 1.19 times higher (95% CI = 1.02~1.41) than G1. As this study confirmed that social support increases fasting blood sugar of women after correction for socioeconomic status, health behavior, and biological and medical variables, it implies the importance of social relations such as social support in addition to management of personal risk factors for prevention of type 2 diabetes.
Purpose: To identify the health condition, home care support, support requirement of poor and elderly people living alone. Method: Data was collected through self-administered questionnaires and analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and correlation. Survey involved 269 conveniently selected who have a social support in H city. Result: Perceived health condition of subjects was bad to moderate (mean score: 2.22). There were significant home care support differences according to gender, religion, education level and dwelling pattern. Support requirement was influences only by the dwelling pattern. Perceived health condition showed a positive correlation with home care support of friends and neighbors, and a negative correlation with support requirement (medical, material, economic emotional support). Conclusion: These findings are expected to make a positive contribution to create an ideal intervention for public visiting nurses and social workers to improve the quality of life in poor and elderly people who live alone.

The mean number of social support resources was 13.23 for the young adult, 12.93 for the middle-aged and 5.30 for the senior adults. Social support networks of the young adults significantly differed according to gender and marital status. That of the middle-aged significantly differed according to family size. Generally speaking, weapon system is defined as a combination of primary system and support system which are evaluated by capability and operational availability respectively. Recently comparison of total life cycle cost shows that logistic support system is proved to be more important than primary system. However, until now systematic approach to support system development has not been applied in the area of developing support system. We need to construct a universal metric for effectiveness of logistic support system and to cut out whatever activities or support elements which do not contribute to the metric. This paper describes a new approach based on system engineering approach to logistic support system and also classifies five factors of failure, stock-out frequency, administrative delay time, active repair time and logistic delay time that have influence on operational availability of logistic support system.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify factors(perceived health and social support) affecting social capital formation of the elderly. Methods: Samples consisted of 184 people aged over 65 years old in one county of Kyungsangbukdo. Data were analyzed with t-test, ANOVA and regression analysis. Results: First, social support(both emotional support and instrumental support) were significantly different by economic status. Secondly, regression analysis showed that perceived health affected a positive influence on social capital in Model1, which analyzed only perceived health. However, Model2, which analyzed perceived health and social support(emotional support, instrumental support) at the same time, showed that only instrumental support affected social capital formation. In this paper, to support a QoS level appropriate to the user in Wireless Home Network based Wireless LAN, we propose a QoS support architecture which includes Wired Network and Wireless Network. Actually, an important problem to support QoS in Wireless Home Network is approached not only on a MAC level in Wireless LAN but also on a integrated method to combine Network layer with Datalink layer. By applying the integrated QoS support method, it is possible to provide QoS support architecture using a Wireless LAN terminal with a minimum changing, and the proposed scheme has advantage of QoS support method, which is more superior than a existing scheme to support QoS in MAC level of Wireless LAN. Simulations results show that overall performance of the proposed scheme can be improved.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the difference in importance and performance of the university start-up support system focusing on D university students to grasp the perception of the start-up support system provided the university from the perspective of students who are real users. Through this, a plan for qualitative growth and advancement of the university start-up system was derived using the IPA (importance-performance analysis) analysis. The findings are as follows. The importance of all elements of university start-up education and start-up support system is higher than the performance, which means that the start-up education and support programs currently implemented by universities are recognized as important, but do not play a big role in terms of performance for students. In addition, the highest priority factors for improvement in the importance-performance matrix were funding and investment support, start-up space and facilities support, management advisory, patent and intellectual property support, and entrepreneurship field practice. Therefore, This study can be used as objective data to identify the factors that universities should focus on and establish a start-up support system from a long-term perspective, and to build and operate a start-up support system that reflects the needs of students.
Objectives : To assess the distribution of social support, and explore its effects on self-rated health status in a low income neighborhood of Seoul, Korea. Methods : In September 2001 we conducted a survey in a low income neighborhood of Seoul, Korea, in which 862 residents, aged 18 years or over, participated. We measured the general sociodemographic characteristics, self-rated health status and social support with the instrument developed from Korean translation of the Medical Outcomes Study Social Support survey (MOS-SSS) scale of the US. Logistic regression was used to identify the determinants of social support, and explore its effects on self-rated health status. Results : Lower social class, women or divorced people had much less social support compared to higher social class, men or those never married, respectively. Those families on much lower income also received less social support. Social support has a positive impact on the self-rated health status, which remains statistically significant even when other relevant variables are adjusted. Conclusions : This study suggests that social support has an important role in health, and the socially disadvantaged have lower social support. Therefore, to improve the health status of the poor, it is necessary to encourage community participation, and develop strategies that could strengthen their provision of social support.

The study examines the impact of organizational rewards, procedure justice, and perceived supervisor support on perceived organizational support, and examine the impact of perceived organizational support on affective commitment to the organization in the logistic enterprises as well. Quantitative research is applied to measure relationships by regression analysis with SPSS. The research data was collected by convenient method from 180 employees who work in different departments in the logistics industry. The study results in the model 1 found that organizational rewards, procedure justice, and perceived supervisor support have a positive relationship to the perceived organizational support. The study results in the model 2 also found that perceived organizational support has strong impact on the affective commitment to the organization. The study results contribute to both management theory and management practice. For the management theory aspect, the authors suggest that perceived organizational support should be considered the key antecedent of affective commitment about which researchers should pay more attention as a concept. Based on the research results, the authors also recommend for the management practice that managers should pay attention to the implementation of rewards, procedure justice, and supervisor support to increase the perceived organizational support and affective commitment in the logistic enterprises.
