This study analyzed the academic achievements on above-level testing of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and English in newly entering students of science specialized high schools. It can be expected that newly students of science high specialized schools have reached ceiling level in the middle school mathematics and science academic scores. Above-level testing(or off-level testing) is a test tool used to evaluate student's ability which are above-grade level. In this study, above-level testing tools were used to develop the same type examination paper of the 2013 Korean College Scholastic Ability Test(CSAT) in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and English. The conclusions of this study were as follow: First, the academic achievement level of science specialized high school freshmen were higher the average level of general high school senior because that over 50% of them are within the 5 grade of CSAT in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. In English, 19.3% science specialized high school freshmen have reached within the 5 grade of CSAT. Second, as a result of examining characteristics of academic achievement with respect to units of subjects, in mathematics, it was showed that the academic achievement of 'continuity and limit of a function' unit was higher, 'statistics' unit was lower. In physics, the academic achievement of 'Electricity and Magnetism' unit was higher, 'Waves and particles' unit was lower. In chemistry, the academic achievement of 'compounds in life' unit was higher, 'Air' unit was lower. In English, the academic achievement of 'practical sentence' of reading area was higher, 'Sentence' of writing area was lower. In conclusion, above-level testing provided a good strategy for identifying and determining appropriate programming interventions for gifted students who are two or more grade levels above their age-mates in achievements, aptitude, or ability.
Purpose: This review article provides an overview of the importance of breakfast by examining the relationship between breakfast and academic achievement including the papers published in Korean. Methods: This study searched a total of six domestic and international databases. The main search words for searching the database were 'breakfast,' 'morning meal,' 'adolescent,' 'teen or teenage,' 'children' and 'academic performance,' and used search operators when available such as 'breakfast AND adolescent AND academic performance'. Results: We searched a total of 274 studies through six databases and included a total of 15 primary studies in which 12 studies were cross-sectional and three were cohort studies. Since a quantitative integration of the primary studies was difficult to achieve such as performing a meta-analysis, this study performed a descriptive analysis of all the 15 studies and the results have shown that eating breakfast has a significant effect on academic achievement. In other words, students who regularly had breakfast showed more than twice the academic performance compared to those who did not have breakfast, and even though the math scores of students who had breakfast were statistically significantly higher, none of the study results inferred the reason. Conclusion: This study showed the importance of eating breakfast during adolescence by presenting that academic achievement increases with regular or more frequent habits of eating breakfast.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between physical fitness factors and academic achievement among high school students. As a research method, cardiopulmonary endurance, flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance, quickness, BMI index, and academic achievement of high school students were measured for 641 male and female high school students in 2014 and 2017. The results of this study show that cardiopulmonary endurance is correlated with cardiopulmonary endurance factors (p<0.05), cardiopulmonary endurance is correlated with flexibility and quickness (p<0.05), and flexibility is correlated with academic achievement (p<0.01). Muscle strength was correlated with quickness and body fat (p<0.05), and muscle endurance was correlated with muscle strength, quickness, and BMI (p<0.05), and correlation between quickness (p<0.01), and there was a correlation between academic achievement (p<0.01). The conclusion of this study is that developing and implementing a more effective physical fitness program can contribute to the academic achievement and physical fitness of domestic high school students because various physical activities have a positive relationship with academic achievement in addition to physical fitness.

This study investigated the effects of scientific inquiry experiments emphasizing social interaction on the academic achievement, the ability for science inquiry and the learning motivation of the students. To examine the differences among the classes of scientific inquiry experiments according to the way of organizing small groups, the effects of the group in homogeneous cognitive level and the group in heterogeneous cognitive level were compared. 255 7th-graders were grouped into the treatment group and the control group. After the treatment group received the scientific inquiry experimental lessons emphasizing social interaction and the control group received traditional lessons for one year, academic achievement, ability for scientific inquiry, and learning motivation were examined. These inquiry experiments were composed of four steps which are eliciting, familiarizing, constructing and bridging. And students can interact with peers and teachers through the process of relating observed phenomena to concept, constructing experiment procedure, and eliciting results. The ANCOVA results revealed that there were significant effects of science inquiry experiments emphasizing social interaction on the academic achievement, the ability for scientific inquiry and the learning motivation of the students. The significant academic achievement of the students in most of the cognitive levels, if not all, was found and degree of improvement in the ability for scientific inquiry was lower than that in the academic achievement. Concerning the effects according to the way of organizing small groups, there were significant improvement in academic achievement and learning motivation of the group in homogeneous cognitive level compared to the group in heterogeneous cognitive level. These results indicate that social interaction in learning is important and it has positive influences on the improvement in academic achievement and ability for scientific inquiry of students.
The purpose of this study was to confirm the degree of other behaviors among university students in the department of radiology(science) who experienced online classes in the COVID-19 situation and to investigate the effect of self-directed learning ability, flow and academic achievement on other behaviors. The research method was descriptive research. Data were 200 students collected from June 1 to 30 in 2022 using structured questionnaires as students in the Department of Radiology(science). Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Cronbach's pearson's correlation, multiple regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 21.0. The result of the study showed that the other behaviors were in the order of 'having s different thought, and 'sending text messages'. other behaviors was 1.75, self-directed learning ability was 3.60, flow was 3.23 and academic achievement was 4.29. There was a significant negative correlation between other behaviors and self-directed learning ability, flow, academic achievement. Factors influencing other behaviors were academic achievement, age, flow, self-directed learning ability in that order. As a result of the above research. it is expected that specific measures and various teaching methods to be flowed in the class are need as the way to lower the other behaviors of university students in the Department of Radiology(science) is to increase academic achievement.

This study examines the effect of using interactive electronic models to teach mathematical concepts on students' achievement in the linear algebra course at university. The field sample consisted of 200 students divided into two equal groups, an experimental group of 100 students and a control group of 100 students. The researcher used an achievement test in some mathematical concepts related to linear algebra. The results of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences (0.05) between the average achievement scores of the experimental and control groups in the post application of the achievement test, in favor of the experimental group. The size of the influence of the independent factor on the results of the study, which is "interactive electronic forms", on the dependent factor, which is the students' academic achievement in the prepared test, had a very large effect. Also, the results of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences (0.05) between the mean scores of the experimental group in the pre and post applications of the achievement test, in favor of the post application. The researcher recommended the use of interactive electronic models in teaching mathematical concepts at the university level and diversifying the strategies of teaching mathematics, using technology to attract learners and raise their academic achievement.
The purpose of this study is to develop middle school English classes using Problem-Based Learning(PBL) based on flipped learning and to examine its effects. Recently, various attempts to combine flipped learning and PBL have been made; however, many studies have not been applied to middle and high school curriculums yet. The attempt of this study is expected to have theoretical and practical significance. The instructional model was derived from the review of previous studies, and the development of instructional program followed the general design procedure(analysis-design-development-implement-evaluation), and its validity was secured with the advice of related experts. To verify the effectiveness of the program, the English academic achievement test and the English key competency test were conducted before and after the program. Changes in English academic achievement were analyzed by the paired-sample t-test, and the effect of key competency and the level of achievement test performance (high vs, low) on the pre-post score change was analyzed by the mixed effects repeated measures ANOVA. As a result of the analysis, both academic achievement and key competencies increased, and the low-level students in the pre-academic achievement test showed more improvements. In conclusion, the PBL class based on flipped learning is effective in improving the English academic achievement and key competencies of middle school students, and in particular, it is shown to be an effective teaching method for students with low academic achievement.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of lessons based on flipped on nursing students' critical thinking disposition, academic achievement, and academic self-efficacy. Methods: The study design was a mixed methods paradigm. Participants were 82 nursing students (experimental group=41, control group=41) for the quantitative study, and nine nursing students for the qualitative study. A flipped learning lesson and lecture were provided in a class titled Critical Thinking and Nursing Processes to compare the effects of the flipped learning lesson. Quantitative data were analyzed with a chi-square test and an independent t-test. Qualitative data were analyzed by means of content analysis. Results: The critical thinking disposition (t=-5.90, p=.004) of the experimental group with flipped learning increased significantly, but their academic achievement (t=0.38, p=.078) and academic self-efficacy (t=-0.24, p=.053) did not show any significant change. From the content analysis after the flipped learning lesson, four categories and 13 sub-categories were derived. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that flipped learning is an effective teaching-learning method for improving nursing students' critical thinking disposition. Therefore, it will be necessary to consider teaching-learning management strategies for applying flipped learning in the nursing education field.
The purpose of this study is to verify the prediction of mastery-approach goal orientation, task value, and self-regulated learning strategy on academic satisfaction and achievement of cyber engineering university students. For this study, 219 engineering students of H cyber university who enrolled in the spring semester of 2011 was chosen and completed web surveys. A hypothetical model proposed included mastery-approach goal orientation, task value, and self-regulated learning strategy as predictors, and academic satisfaction and achievement as criteria variables. The results of this study through multiple regression analysis indicated that task value(${\beta}$=.401) and self-regulated learning strategy(${\beta}$=.401) predicted significantly on academic satisfaction. In addition, self-regulated learning strategy(${\beta}$=.301) and mastery-approach goal orientation(${\beta}$=.196) predicted significantly on academic achievement. The result of this study suggested that mastery-approach goal orientation, task value, and self-regulated learning strategy should be considered for improving academic satisfaction and achievement in cyber engineering education.

In non-face-to-face teaching-learning, a survey was conducted on 55 students in the department of chemistry education at university A on the variables (behavioral control, instructor-learner interaction, cognitive learning) affecting learning satisfaction and academic achievement. There were relatively large positive correlations between variables. The positive correlation between them was found to be the factors that influenced learning satisfaction and academic achievement in non-face-to-face teaching-learning. The average values of non-face-to-face teaching-learning for each variable were lower than the corresponding values of face-to-face teaching-learning, respectively. As a result of the perception survey on the detailed factors of each variable, negative responses were relatively high in factors such as 'concentration of behavior' in behavioral control, 'level-considered explanation' in instructor-learner interaction, and 'knowledge understanding' in cognitive learning.
