  • This study aims to examine the integration process of educational system and school structure of the former East Germany into the Federal Republic of Germany following German unification. More specifically, the study focuses on drawing some policy suggestions and implications for achieving integration of South and North Korean educational system in a unified Korea. In fact, the school structure in the former East Germany had been integrated into West German educational system and school structure before and after official German unification by way of so called transitional process. The results of the study indicate that the integration process of school structure in the former East Germany into West German educational system was quite successful with stable management by means of various transitional measures and reaching an agreement between East and West Germany. Additionally, the study presents that local characteristics regarding school structure in the former East Germany were recognized and introduced in the integration process and they managed to handle the social change situation after German unification flexibly. However, it shows some shortcomings because it had been carried out in too short a period of time and the positive factors of school structure in the former East Germany had not been enough taken account into the integration process, along with the lack of inner comprehensive relevant infrastructure. Furthermore, the study points out that German case of school structure and its integration process after German unification has implications for specific ways Korea should pursue to achieve integration of South and North Korean educational system in a unified Korea. To be more specific, it suggests how we come up with plans and measures to establish integration of South and North Korean school structure in a stable way especially in terms of dealing with North Korean school structure and building an inner infrastructure.

  • The author studied the process of unifying Hanja variant groups of Korea and China for LGR (Label Generation Rule) of Internet Top-Level Hangeul Hanja Domain and possible confusion between Hangeul syllable and Hanja character. Among 3518 Chinese variant groups, Korea and China need not review variant groups which include no or just one Korean Hanja character. Korea and China reviewed 304 Chinese variant groups (9% of the 3518 Chinese variant groups) which include two or more Korean Hanja characters. By doing so, Korea and China succeeded in efficiently unifying variant groups. Unification process of variant groups which is the main core of Korea-China coordination and almost final unification result is summarized in this paper. In addition, the author analyzed systematically whether some Hanja character could be confused with a Hangeul syllable and obtained a good result which was not expected at the beginning. Probably this kind of systematic analysis has not been performed in the past and seems the first attempt, which is one of the contributions of this paper. The author also reviewed how to express K-LGR in XML for submission to ICANN.

The organization identified and analyzed spatial information about North Korea, road and railway-oriented SOC construction projects, and examined the applicability of the latest technologies to narrow the technical gap with North Korea and quickly establish land spatial information. To prepare a support process appropriate for the situation in North Korea, technical and human support details and considerations were reviewed through a case analysis of spatial information construction for developing countries. In addition, the main result was "Presenting Efficient Utilization of Human Resources and Equipment for the Establishment of Spatial Information in North Korea," establishing an efficient utilization plan for the human resources and equipment needed in the support process based on technology support. It is expected that the South Korean government will minimize the negative impact on future land infrastructure construction by first conducting research in inter-Korean economic cooperation and national infrastructure construction and establishment of spatial information construction plans.

  • It is generally analyzed that the subject area of grassland development seen in the North Korea area following unification with the South Korea includes hillland, h o w upland, tideland, and other expected grassland development areas. Possibilities and prospects for grassland development become higher if such grassland is developed by methods of environmental affinity suitable to the geographical and environmental conditions of North korea. First, the grassland development has to be based on grass species which are both cold resistant and suitable to the climate and the soil conditions of North korea. In addition, research on adaptable species, mixture combination selections and grassland establishment methods should be performed along with the accumulation of domestic data. The kind of research can be conducted in such areas as Yenben in China(Yenben University), Taekwanryung and Taeback mountains, where geographical features are similar to those of North korea. This research is possible because research can easily be given access to these locations. Hence, it is desirable to prepare for the unification of the Korean peninsula by caning out basic and applied research, and by way of accumulating data in the relevant fields.
