Use of Tree Traversal Algorithms for Chain Formation in the PEGASIS Data Gathering Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

  • The high-level contribution of this paper is to illustrate the effectiveness of using graph theory tree traversal algorithms (pre-order, in-order and post-order traversals) to generate the chain of sensor nodes in the classical Power Efficient-Gathering in Sensor Information Systems (PEGASIS) data aggregation protocol for wireless sensor networks. We first construct an undirected minimum-weight spanning tree (ud-MST) on a complete sensor network graph, wherein the weight of each edge is the Euclidean distance between the constituent nodes of the edge. A Breadth-First-Search of the ud-MST, starting with the node located closest to the center of the network, is now conducted to iteratively construct a rooted directed minimum-weight spanning tree (rd-MST). The three tree traversal algorithms are then executed on the rd-MST and the node sequence resulting from each of the traversals is used as the chain of nodes for the PEGASIS protocol. Simulation studies on PEGASIS conducted for both TDMA and CDMA systems illustrate that using the chain of nodes generated from the tree traversal algorithms, the node lifetime can improve as large as by 19%-30% and at the same time, the energy loss per node can be 19%-35% lower than that obtained with the currently used distance-based greedy heuristic.

  • This paper investigates the group average-consensus and group formation-consensus problems for first-order multi-agent systems. The control protocol for group consensus is designed by considering the positive adjacency elements. Since each intra-group Laplacian matrix cannot be satisfied with the in-degree balance because of the positive adjacency elements between groups, we decompose the Laplacian matrix into an intra-group Laplacian matrix and an inter-group Laplacian matrix. Moreover, average matrices are used in the control protocol to analyze the stability of multi-agent systems with a fixed and undirected communication topology. Using the graph theory and the Lyapunov functional, stability analysis is performed for group average-consensus and group formation-consensus, respectively. Finally, some simulation results are presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed control protocol for group consensus.

Contribution to Improve Database Classification Algorithms for Multi-Database Mining

  • Database classification is an important preprocessing step for the multi-database mining (MDM). In fact, when a multi-branch company needs to explore its distributed data for decision making, it is imperative to classify these multiple databases into similar clusters before analyzing the data. To search for the best classification of a set of n databases, existing algorithms generate from 1 to ($n^2-n$)/2 candidate classifications. Although each candidate classification is included in the next one (i.e., clusters in the current classification are subsets of clusters in the next classification), existing algorithms generate each classification independently, that is, without taking into account the use of clusters from the previous classification. Consequently, existing algorithms are time consuming, especially when the number of candidate classifications increases. To overcome the latter problem, we propose in this paper an efficient approach that represents the problem of classifying the multiple databases as a problem of identifying the connected components of an undirected weighted graph. Theoretical analysis and experiments on public databases confirm the efficiency of our algorithm against existing works and that it overcomes the problem of increase in the execution time.

열 생성 기법을 이용한 스타이너 나무 분할 문제에 관한 연구 (Column Generation Approach to the Steiner Tree Packing Problem)

  • We consider the Steiner tree packing problem. For a given undirected graph G =(V, E) with positive integer capacities and non-negative weights on its edges, and a list of node sets(nets), the problem is to find a connection of nets which satisfies the edge capacity limits and minimizes the total weights. We focus on the switchbox routing problem in knock-knee model and formulate this problem as an integer programming using Steiner tree variables. The model contains exponential number of variables, but the problem can be solved using a polynomial time column generation procedure. We test the algorithm on some standard test instances and compare the performances with the results using cutting plane approach. Computational results show that our algorithm is competitive to the cutting plane algorithm presented by Grotschel et al. and can be used to solve practically sized problems.

3D Building Reconstruction Using a New Perceptual Grouping Technique

  • This paper presents a new method for building detection and reconstruction from aerial images. In our approach, we extract the useful building location information from the generated disparity map to obtain the segmentation of interested objects and thus reduce significantly unnecessary line segment extracted in low level feature extraction step. Hypothesis selection is carried out by using undirected graph in which close cycles represent complete rooftops hypotheses, and hypothesis are finally tested to contruct building model. We test the proposed method with synthetic images generated from Avenches dataset of Ascona aerial images. The experiment result shows that the extracted 3D line segments of the buildings can be efficiently used for the task of building detection and reconstruction from aerial images.

  • In this paper, we propose an inverse optimal distributed protocol for the formation and velocity consensus of nonholonomic mobile robots. The communication among mobile robots is described by a simple undirected graph, and the mobile robots' kinematics are considered. The group of mobile robots driven by the proposed protocols asymptotically achieves the desired formation and group velocity in an inverse optimal fashion. The design of the protocols is based on dynamic feedback linearization and the proposed linear quadratic (LQ) inverse optimal second-order consensus protocol. A numerical simulation is given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • 본 논문은 통신 지연이 존재하는 고차적분기 시스템의 일치문제를 다룬다. 리카티 방정식 기반의 제어기법과 시간지연의 효과를 제거해주는 부가적인 설계변수를 도입함으로써 임의로 큰 통신 지연이 존재하는 경우에도 일치 문제를 해결할 수 있음을 증명한다. 또한, 단지 하나의 변수만 설계하면 되기 때문에 기존의 설계 방법에 비하여 매우 간단하고 제어기의 존재성이 통신지연의 크기에 의존하지 않는다는 장점을 가진다.

  • Let D be a finite digraph with the vertex set V (D) and the arc set A(D). A function f : $V(D){\rightarrow}\{-1,\;1\}$ defined on the vertices of a digraph D is called a bad function if $f(N^-(v)){\leq}1$ for every v in D. The weight of a bad function is $f(V(D))=\sum\limits_{v{\in}V(D)}f(v)$. The maximum weight of a bad function of D is the the negative decision number ${\beta}_D(D)$ of D. Wang [4] studied several sharp upper bounds of this number for an undirected graph. In this paper, we study sharp upper bounds of the negative decision number ${\beta}_D(D)$ of for a digraph D.

Insights of window-based mechanism approach to visualize composite biodata point in feature spaces

  • In this paper, we propose a window-based mechanism visualization approach as an alternative way to measure the seriousness of the difference among data-insights extracted from a composite biodata point. The approach is based on two components: undirected graph and Mosaab-metric space. The significant application of this approach is to visualize the segmented genome of a virus. We use Influenza and Ebola viruses as examples to demonstrate the robustness of this approach and to conduct comparisons. This approach can provide researchers with deep insights about information structures extracted from a segmented genome as a composite biodata point, and consequently, to capture the segmented genetic variations and diversity (variants) in composite data points.

최대 가중치 독립집합 문제의 최대 가중치 독립정점 쌍 병합 알고리즘 (Merge Algorithm of Maximum weighted Independent Vertex Pair at Maximal Weighted Independent Set Problem)

  • 본 논문은 NP-난제로 널리 알려진 최대 가중치 독립집합(MWIS) 문제에 대해 다항시간으로 풀 수 있는 알고리즘을 제시하였다. MWIS 문제에 대해 지금까지는 특정 그래프 형태에 특화된 다항시간 알고리즘, 또는 분산형, 클러스터 형성 방법들이 제안되기도 하였으나 모든 그래프 형태에 적합한 단일화된 알고리즘이 제안되지 않고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 어떠한 형태의 그래프에도 적합한 유일한 다항시간 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안된 알고리즘은 최대 가중치를 갖는 정점 vi를 vi와 이웃하지 않은 정점 들 중 최대 가중치를 갖는 vj 정점과 병합하였다. 제안된 알고리즘을 무방향 그래프와 트리에 적용한 결과, 최적 해를 얻었다. 특히, 일부 데이터에 대해서는 기존에 알려진 해를 개선하는 결과도 얻었다.
