In this paper, we propose an underwater acoustic sensor fault detection method for passive sonar systems. In general, a passive sonar system displays processed results of array signals obtained from tens of the acoustic sensors as a two-dimensional image such as displays for broadband or narrowband analysis. Since detection result display in the operation software is to display the accumulated result through the array signal processing, it is difficult to determine the possibility where signal may be contaminated by the fault or failure of a single channel sensor. In this paper, accordingly, we propose a detection method based on the analysis of RMSCR (Root Mean Square Crossing-Rate), and the processing techniques for the faulty sensors are analyzed. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, the precision of detecting fault sensors is measured by using signals acquired from real array being operated in several coastal areas. Besides, we compare performance of fault processing techniques. From the experiments, it is shown that the proposed method works well in underwater environments with high average RMS, and mute (set to zero) shows the best performance with regard to fault processing techniques.

In this study, we investigate tidal wave propagation characteristics, and classify regional tidal regime using tidal form number considered distribution of astronomical tide, overtides, and compound tides in the Han River Estuary, Gyeonggi Bay. The characteristics of the tidal wave propagation in main channels show dominance of major tidal constituents (e.g., $M_2$, $S_2$, $N_2$, $K_1$ and $O_1$) contributing to the astronomical tide however, distinct increasing of shallow water (e.g., $M_4$) and long period (e.g., $MS_f$) components toward up-estuary. Using the characteristics of tidal form number to astronomical tide, overtides, and compound tides, the regional tidal regime could be assorted into three regions. Firstly, a dominance area of astronomical tide was presented from open sea to a front of Incheon Harbor (Yeomha channel) and to north entrance of Seokmo channel. The area between south and north entrance of Yeomha channel and Ganghaw north channel classified into zone of showing strong shallow water components. It could be separated into upper estuary, upstream the Singok underwater dam, showed dominance of shallow overtides (e.g., $M_4$ and $MS_4$) water and long-term compound tides (e.g., $MS_f$) larger magnitude than astronomical tide. The shallow water components was earlier generated in lower part (south entrance) of Yeomha channel have strong bottom by effect of shallower and narrower compared with Seokmo channel. Tidal asymmetries of upper estuary cause by a development of overtides and compound tides are mainly controlled by influence of man-made structure.

The purpose of this study is to develop the jellyfish separator system(JSS) for reducing fishery damage by the increase of jellyfish in the sea area of Korea in summer. First of all, to find the optimum structure of a JSS, six types of JSS in trawl fishery were designed and manufactured, the underwater shape of JSS and the separating process by JSS were observed in the circulating water channel(CWC). And the field experiments were carried out in July and September 2004 in the southern sea of Korea. For the moving path of the jellyfish model in the CWC, in case that the model was larger than the mesh size of the separator net, it was guided toward the lower part of the separator net by the guiding net and discharged through the outlet. In case that the model was smaller than the mesh size of the separator net, some models which passed through the upper part of the guiding net were smaller than the mesh size of the guiding net and discharged through the outlet and most of the model which passed through the lower part of the guiding net moved to the codend passing through the separator net. According to the field experiment result, the optimum tilt angle of separator net was inferred $20^{\circ}$ that the discharge rate of jellyfish was higher than the other tilt angle of separator net and the optimum structure of JSS was inferred GS type(consists of guiding net and separator net) that the discharge rate of jellyfish was higher than S type(consists of separator net). It was demamded to carry out more study for the countermeasure to reduce loss of fish.

In this paper, numerical modeling is conducted to analyze the tension of an anchor line by varying the size and drag coefficient of a buoy when the trapnet is influenced by the wave and the current simultaneously. A mass-spring model was used to analyze the behavior of trapnet underwater under the influence of waves and current. In the simulation of numerical model, wave height of 3, 4, 5 and 6 m, a period of 4.4 s, and the flow speed of 0.7 m/s were used for the wave and current condition. The drag coefficients of buoy were 0.8, 0.4 and 0.2, respectively. The size of buoy was 100, 50 and 25% based on the cylindrical buoy ($0.0311m^3$) used for swimming crab trap. The drag coefficient of the trapnet, the main model for numerical analysis, was obtained by a circular water channel experiment using a 6-component load cell. As a result of the simulation, the tension of the anchor line decreased proportional to buoy's drag coefficient and size; the higher the wave height, the greater the decrease rate of the tension. When the buoy drag coefficient and size decreased to one fourth, the tension of the anchor line decreased to a half and the tension of the anchor line was lower than the holding power of the anchor even at 6 m of wave height. Therefore, reducing the buoy drag coefficient and size appropriately reduces the trapnet load from the wave, which also reduces the possibility of trapnet loss.
It is well known that the ship manoeuvring motion is greatly affected by hydrodynamic forces and moments acting between two vessels passing too close to each other in confined waters, such as in a harbour or narrow channel. This interaction between two vessels could be assumed to be the functions of the longitudinal distance, transverse distance and their speeds. The aim of this study is to calculate the interaction between two vessels passing close to each other on parallel courses by simulation, and to estimate the effect of rudder action and time at collision through simulation under the condition of various longitudinal distances and different speed-ratios of the two vessels.

Small nuclear reactor features higher power capacity, longer operation life than conventional power sources. It could be an ideal alternative of existing power source applied for special equipment for terrestrial or underwater missions. In this paper, a 25kWe heat pipe cooled reactor power source applied for multiple use is preliminary designed. Based on the design, a thermal-hydraulic analysis code for heat pipe cooled reactor is developed to analyze steady and transient performance of the designed nuclear reactor. For reactor design, UN fuel with 65% enrichment and potassium heat pipes are adopted in the reactor core. Tungsten and LiH are adopted as radiation shield on both sides of the reactor core. The reactor is controlled by 6 control drums with B4C neutron absorbers. Thermoelectric generator (TEG) converts fission heat into electricity. Cooling water removes waste heat out of the reactor. The thermal-hydraulic characteristics of heat pipes are simulated using thermal resistance network method. Thermal parameters of steady and transient conditions, such as the temperature distribution of every key components are obtained. Then the postulated reactor accidents for heat pipe cooled reactor, including power variation, single heat pipe failure and cooling channel blockage, are analyzed and evaluated. Results show that all the designed parameters satisfy the safety requirements. This work could provide reference to the design and application of the heat pipe cooled nuclear power source.
The hydrodynamic interaction effects between the multi-bodies can not be neglected when vessels are close to each other in congested and confined waters, such as in a harbour or narrow channel. Increase in speed and size of modern vessels make it necessary to consider this interaction effects when designing harbours and navigation channels. In this research, the hydrodynamic interaction effects of the spacing between vessels and water depth along with ship's velocity are summarized and discussed. The goal of this research is to propose a guideline of appropriate speed and distance between passing and moored vessels to avoid the influence of hydrodynamic forces and to navigate safely in confined sea areas.
In underwater signal processing, separating individual signals from mixed signals has long been a challenge due to low signal quality. The common method using Short-time Fourier transform for spectrogram analysis has faced criticism for its complex parameter optimization and loss of phase data. We propose a Triple-path Recurrent Neural Network, based on the Dual-path Recurrent Neural Network's success in long time series signal processing, to handle three-dimensional tensors from multi-channel sensor input signals. By dividing input signals into short chunks and creating a 3D tensor, the method accounts for relationships within and between chunks and channels, enabling local and global feature learning. The proposed technique demonstrates improved Root Mean Square Error and Scale Invariant Signal to Noise Ratio compared to the existing method.

Stow nets have widely been used in the western sea of Korea from the olden age. The original structure of a stow net is a large square-sectional bag net made of 4 netting panels, and the front fringes of top and bottom panels are connected to the top and bottom beams respectively. Wire ropes, which is originated from the holding anchor are gradually forked and biforked, and finally 4 pieces of wire rope (biforked pendants) are jointed to each beam. Much convenience caused by long and heavy beams were problemed, then some studies have been carried out to improve the net since 1930's. The most effective improvement were achieved in 1980 by Mr. Han and his colleagues. The key point of improvement was that the beams were removed and the belt shaped shearing device made by canvas was attached to the side panels, the head rope and ground rope to the front fringe of top and bottom panel, and biforked pendants are joined to the shearing device. Even though this is the epoch-making improvement of a stow net, the further study should be required to find out more effective method. The authors carried out a model experiment on the stow net to determine the vertical and horizontal opening of a net mouth, and also examine the front, top and side-view configuration of the net. The model net was constructed depending on the Similarity Law of Fishing Gear in 1/10 and 1/20 scale and set against to the current at shallow and speedy flowing channel. The vertical and horizontal openings were determined by using scaled bamboo poles, and the configuration was observed by using specially prepared observation platform and underwater observation glass, and also photographed by using specially prepared underwater photographic equipment. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. The opening height and width of the shearing device varied in accordance with the relative length of the biforked pendants. Considering the height and width of shearing device in 6 cases of the arrangement system of biforked pendants, the best result was obtained in the case that the 2nd, 3rd and 4th pendents from the bottom-most was 5%, 9% and 4% longer than that. 2. On the top-view configuration the excessive deformation of head rope and ground rope were observed. In the actual net, 54m long head rope and ground rope were attached to the front fringe of top and bottom panels so that the head rope may be lifted to make the net mouth open highly. But actually the head rope and the ground rope are streamed backward without any lift, and also the netting followed the ropes were deformed until the 2/5 in the whole length of the net. This deformation may be guessed to disturb the entrance of fish school into the net and also caused the net to get caught by obstacles in the sea bed and to be broken largely. 3. Hydrodynamic resistance R of the actual net may be deduced as R(kg)=29.2$\times$103 v1.65. It is also expressed as R(kg)=5.9$\times$d/l$\times$ab v1.65. depending on the formula deduced by Koyama to estimate the resistance of trawl nets, where d/l denote the ratio between diameter of netting twine and length of mesh leg in every part of side panel, a and b, the stretched circumference of the mouth and the stretched length of the net, respectively.
