In order to investigate the characteristics of the shear strength of the unsaturated cohesive soils which has mean characters of sand and clay widely used for banking, I selected soil samples from An-sung district and, against it, performed direct shear test and unconfined compression test changing grain size, compaction energy and moisture content and also performed triaxial compression test under optimum moisture content. The results are as follows; 1.As the passing percent of the No. 200 sieve increased from 23.6% to 56.1%, cohesion increased from 0. 202kg/cm2 to 0. 398kg/cm2 under the direct shear test and from 0.38 kg/cm2 to 1. 05kg/cm2 under the tria4al compression test, internal friction angle decreased from 44. 78$^{\circ}$ to 34. 34$^{\circ}$ under the direct shear test and from 31. 88$^{\circ}$ to 13. 31$^{\circ}$ under the triaxial compression test. 2.Cohesion showed it's maximum value around OMC and internal friction angle showed a tendency to increase according to the decrease of water content but it's increasing ratio was relatively slow. 3.Decreasing ratio of cohesion and internal friction angle was relatively sensitive according to the decrease of compaction energy. 4.The smaller of the vertical stress and the coarser of the grain size of samples, changing of the volume showed a tendency to increase and as the increase of water content, the shear displacement (dh) at failure shear stress ($\tau$f) showed maximum and the $\tau$f-dh curve was gentle. 5.To synthesize the results of the direct shear test and the triaxial compression test, cohesion showed higher under the triaxial compression test and internal friction angle showed a tendeney to appear higher under the direct shear test. It seems that we can get correspondent results by removing the side friction of mold with soils and adjusting the vertical stress and shearing speed under the direct shear test.
The test specimen in environmental vibration test is connected to the fixture through several attachment points. The forces generated by the shaker must be transmitted equally to all attachment points. The forces transmitted to attachment points, however, are different because of the flexural vibration of the fixture. The variations of the transmitted force cause the under-test, especially at anti-resonance frequencies, in vibration test control. Anti-resonance frequencies at the attachment points of the fixture must be same in order to avoid the under-test in vibration test control. The structural modification of the fixture is needed so that anti-resonance frequencies at attachment points have the same value. In this paper, the method to calculate the anti-resonance frequencies and those sensitivities is presented. This sensitivity analysis is applied to the structural modification of the fixture excited at multi-points by the shaker. The antiresonance frequencies at the attachment points of the fixture can have the same value after structural modification, and the under-test in the vibration test control can be removed. Several computer simulations show that the proposed method can remove the under-tests, which are not removed in conventional vibration test control.
Background: The purpose of this study was to assess the test-retest reliability of balance measurements in older adults using balance measurement system(Good Balance). Methods: The subjects consisted of 49 female and 20 male in community-dwelling older adults. This study used a repeated-measure design. Each subject completed all the different tests once and they were then repeated with 2 minutes in between. Repeated two-ways analysis of variance(ANOVA), representing two test times and both sexes, was calculated for each of the two dependent variables. Intraclass correlation coefficients(ICCs) were used to assess the test-retest reliability. Results: 1) There was not significant difference between test and retest for mediolateral sway speed and anterioposterior sway speed under conditions of normal standing with eyes open, normal standing with eyes closed and semitandem standing with eyes open. There was not significant difference between males and females for mediolateral sway speed and anterioposterior sway speed under conditions of normal standing with eyes open, normal standing with eyes closed and semitandem standing with eyes open. There were not the interaction effects between genders and test time under three conditions. 2) The reproducibility between test and retest was excellent for anterioposterior sway speed(ICC=.77) under condition of normal standing with eyes open, and for mediolateral sway speed(ICC=.76) and anterioposterior sway speed(ICC=.84) under condition of semitandem standing with eyes open. The reproducibility between test and retest was fair to good for mediolateral sway speed(ICC=.64) under condition of normal standing with eyes open, for mediolateral sway speed(ICC=.63) and anterioposterior sway speed(ICC=.75) under condition of normal standing with eyes closed. Conclusion: Balance tests in older adults using balance measurement system(Good Balance) demonstrated acceptable levels of reliability.

Interfacial and microfailure properties of carbon fiber/epoxy matrix composites were evaluated using both tensile fragmentation and compressive Broutman tests with acoustic emission (AE). Amino-silane and maleic anhydride polymeric coupling agents were used via the dipping and electrodeposition (ED), respectively. Both coupling agents exhibited higher improvements in interfacial shear strength (IFSS) under tensile tests than compressive cases. However, ED treatment showed higher IFSS improvement than dipping case under both tensile and compressive test. The typical microfailure modes including fiber break, matrix cracking, and interlayer failure were observed during tensile test, whereas the diagonal slippage in fiber ends was observed during compressive test. For both the untreated and treated cases AE distributions were separated well under tensile testing. On the other hand, AE distributions were rather closer under compressive tests because of the difference in failure energies between tensile and compressive loading. Under both loading conditions, fiber breaks occurred around just before and after yielding point. Maximum AE voltage fur the waveform of carbon or basalt fiber breakage under tensile tests exhibited much larger than those under compressive tests.

To analyze a bond stress-slip behavior between a reinforcing bar and concrete under repeated loading, pull-out fatigue test was performed. Major variables were repeated stress levels and cycle numbers. Test specimen was taken repeated constant amplitude loading before it was fractured by pull-out test. Increments of bond strength and slip according to repeated stress level and cycle numbers were analyzed. On the basis of test results, Local bond stress-slip relationship under repeated loading were formulated
This paper describes the design and construction aspects of time-dependent deformation test apparatus for slut.oiling rocks and presents the test results obtained using these apparatus. These tests are modified semi-confined swell test, swell test under uniaxial tension and swell test under biaxial stress. These apparatus measure the time.dependent deformations in three orthogonal directions of the test specimen under simplified field stress conditions. The test results obtained from these test apparatus for the last several years show that these apparatus have performed satisfactorily. The test results show that the time-dependent deformation behaviour of the Queenston shale is cross-anisotropic with higher swelling in the vertical direction (normal to bedding plane) than in horizontal direction (parallel to bedding plane) under free swell condition. The applied stress in one direction suppresses the swelling deformation in that direction as well as that in the orthogonal directions.

The pilot tests for the development of biaxial failure envelope of high strength concrete of reactor containments were performed. To apply biaxial loads to concrete, the plate specimens were used. The technical difficulties encountered on the development of a suitable biaxial test setup were discussed. To decide the optimum thickness of plate specimen, the nonlinear finite element analyses using ABAQUS were performed for a 1/8 model of cylindrical specimen(${\Phi}150{\times}300$) and four 1/4 models of plate Specimens ($200{\times}200{\times}T$(=30, 50, 60, 70)mm) under uniaxial compression. Analytical values and test data of relative strength ratio between those specimens with different geometric shapes were also compared. The various test data were obtained under uniaxial compression, uniaxial tension, and biaxial compression and then the stress-strain responses were plotted. The test data indicated that the strength of concrete under biaxial compression, $f_1/f_2=-1/-1$, is 15 percent larger than that under uniaxial compression and the poisson's ratio of concrete is 0.16. Teflon pads employed to eliminate friction between test specimen and loading platens showed an excellent effect under biaxial compression.
Rolling contact fatigue (RCF) tests were performed for two kinds of commercial silicon nitride balls using 4-Ball rolling contact fatigue life tester under EHL condition (Λ=8.9) and boundary lubrication condition (Λ=0.2). All the test balls were finished up to the dimensional accuracy of Grade 5 defined in KS B 2001 (Steel Balls for Ball Bearings) with a size of 8.731 mm. RCF tests were then conducted under the initial theoretical maximum contact stress 6.63 GPa and the spindle speed 10,000 rpm. All the test balls were not failed until 3.75 $\times$ 107 contact cycles and wear tracks of test balls were not conspicuous under EHL condition (Λ= 8.9). In the operations of low lambda regime (Λ= 0.2), all the test balls were surface damaged and high rolling wear resistance was achievable in fully densified using MgO 1 wt% and HIPed balls. Rolling wear of silicon nitride balls under boundary lubrication condition depend mainly on grain size and intergranular phase content of silicon nitride balls.

A ranked set sample version of the sign test is proposed for testing hypotheses concerning the quantiles of a population characteristic by Kaur, et. al(2002). In this paper, we proposed the ranked set sample Wilcoxon signed rank test for quantiles under equal allocation. We obtain the asymptotic property and the asymptotic relative efficiencies of the proposed test statistic with respect to Wilcoxon signed rank test of simple random sample for quantiles under equal allocation. We calculate the ARE of test statistics, the proposed test statistic is more efficient than simple random sampling for all quantiles. The relative advantage of ranked set sampling is greatest at the median and tapers off in the tails.
In this study, the dynamic behavior of a three-span hybrid continuous arch bridge under vehicle loading is investigated. The natural vibration characteristics of the bridge were analyzed through pulsation test. In the dynamic loading test, the vibrations of the bridge under different truck speeds and different pavement conditions were tested, and time histories of deflection and acceleration of the bridge were measured. Based on the dynamic loading test, the impact coefficient was analyzed. The results indicate that the pavement smoothness had more impacts on the vibration of the bridge than the truck's speed. The vertical damping of the bridge under the excitation of the trucks is larger than the transverse damping. Resonance occurs at the side span of the bridge under a truck at 10 km/h.
