In this research, unsteady groundwater flow in unconfined and homogeneous three layer aquifers is studied theoretically and experimentally. Numerical solutions are obtained by Runge Kutta and Runge Kutta Gill method after transforming the governing nonlinear partial differential equations to nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Experimental apparatus includes a test section filled with fine, medium and coarse sands. Experimental results are compared with the numerical solutions and both experimental and numerical results correspond well with each other. This numerical approach may be also applied to the cases which have more aquifers.
This study carried out fundamental study on the forest road pavement method of cementing the ground using the compaction equipment after laying by mixing with eco-friendly stabilizer, natural soil and water. Target strength of pavement was set to 2.0MPa and the specimen was produced per mixing ratio of cement, kinds of natural soil and curing period to evaluate the durability and unconfined compressive strength. Unconfined compressive strength test was conducted to compare strength by producing the test specimen mixing environment-friendly cement as well as the test specimen mixing cement with the same mixing ratio. To evaluate the durability, surface abrasion test and water flow resistance test were conducted. In addition, SB and GB tests were conducted using iron marble and golf ball to evaluate the walking satisfaction since it can be used by visitors due to the feature of forest road.

This paper is on the modeling of two-dimensional groundwater flow, which is the first step of the development of Dynamic System Model for groundwater flow and pollutant transport in subsurface porous media. The particular features of the model are its versatility and flexibility to deal with as many real-world problems as possible. Points as well as distributed sources/sinks are included to represent recharges/pumping and rainfall infiltrations. All sources/sinks can be transient or steady state. Prescribed hydraulic head on the Dirichlet boundaries and fluxes on Neumann or Cauchy boundaries can be time-dependent or constant. Sources/sinks strength over each element and node, hydraulic head at each Dirichlet boundary node and flux at each boundary segment can vary independently of each other. Either completely confined or completely unconfined aquifers, or partially confined and partially unconfined aquifers can be dealt with effectively. Discretization of a compound region with very irregular curved boundaries is made easy by including both quadrilateral and triangular elements in the formulation. Large-field problems can be solved efficiently by including a pointwise iterative solution strategy as an optional alternative to the direct elimination solution methed for the matrix equation approximating the partial differential equation of groundwater flow. The model also includes transient flow through confining leaky aquifers lying above and/or below the aquifer of interest. The model is verified against three simple cases to which analytical solutions are available. The groundwater flow model shall be combined with the model of pollutant transport in subsurface porous media. Then the combined model, with the applications of the Eigenvalue technique and the Dynamic system theory, shall be improved to the Dynamic System Model which can simulate the real groundwater flow and the pollutant transport accurately and effectively for the analyses and predictions.

Flowable fill is generally a mixture of sand, fly ash, a small amount of cement and water. Sand is the major component of most flowable fill with waste materials. Various materials, including two waste foundry sands(WFS), an anti-corrosive waste foundry sand and natural soil, were used as a fine aggregate in this study. Natural sea sand was used for comparison. The flow behavior, hardening characteristics, and ultimate strength behavior of flowable fill were investigated. The unconfined compression test necessary to sustain walkability as the fresh flowable fill hardens was determined and the strength at 28-days appeared to correlate well with the water-to-cement ratio. The strength parameters, like cohesion and internal friction angle, were determined for the samples prepared by different curing times. The creep test for settlement potential was conducted. The data presented show that by-product foundry sand, an anti-corrosive WFS, and natural soil can be successfully used in controlled low strength materials(CLSM), and it provides similar or better properties to that of CLSM containing natural sea sand.
This study deals with the flow of bed rock ground water of Banyaweol Formation, which is presently cleared up as a laminar flow. The result obtained may be summarized as the following. 1) The Banyaweol Formation consists mainly of thin-bedded, green to blackish green shale, mudstone, and marl. The marl and mudstone alternatively occur with shale. The marl and mudstone form a aquifer of Banyaweol Formation. In this study, a group of aquifer is in convenience named as a aquifer zone. The aquifer occurs in lenticular form. The aquifer seems to be a type of artesian aquifer because it is covered with aquicludes, but it actually forms a unconfined aquifer because its piezometric surface stays under the lower aquiclude. The lowering of piezometric level is formed because of leakage of the ground water to the lower aquifer undersaturated. 2) The coefficient of permeability of Banyaweol Formation's ground water body (K) is derived by using Dupuit's equation as the following ${\log}K=\frac{CK^2-dK+f}{aK-b}\;\(M=1.365(2H-s)s\\M={\log}1.956s{\sqrt{H}}r\)$ here, $$a=\sum_{1}M_iG_i$$$$b={\frac{1}{2}log{\sum_{i}}Q_i{^2}$$$$c=2{\sum_{i}}M_i{^2}$$$$d=loge{\sum_{i}}M_{i}Q_{i}+2{{\sum_{i}}N_{i}Q_{i}$$$$f=loge{\sum_{i}}Q_i{^2}N_i$$ If the measured values substituted for the above equation, the coefficient of permeability of the aquifer is 4.1m/day. The coefficient of storge of the aquifer is $2.8{\times}10^{-4}$ if the measured values substituted for Theis's equation. Using the above constants, the filtration velocity of the aquifer is $2.1{\times}1O^{-1}m/day$and the daily flow quantity of the ground water is $847.38m^{3}/day$. 3) In order to understand the time necessary for a circulation of ground water body, the contents of tritum contained in the ground water are measured as 2.3 T.U. at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. Before 1952, the average concentration of tritium per year in groundwater was reported as 10T. u., taking it as the standard, the groundwater of the present study 26.25 years old. Therofore, the groundwater of the Banyaweol Formation is judged as an relatively old groundwater. It is characteristic that the ground water of Banyawol Formation is laminar flow as well as unconfined aquifer and ground water flow of relatively long time. 4) The nature, means of flow, and circulation of Banyaweol Formation's ground water body make it possible set up this ground water body as a ground water system.
A method is presented to estimate the form drag and the base pressure on a triangular cylinder in the presence of blockage effect. The Strouhal number, which is found to increase with the flow constriction experimentally by Ramamurthy & Ng (1973), may be decoupled from the blockage effect when re-defined by using the velocity at flow separation and a theoretical wake width. By incorporating this wake width into the momentum equation by Maskell (1963) for the confined flow, a relationship between the form drag and the base pressure is derived. Independently, the experimental data of surface pressure from Ramamurthy & Lee (1973) are found to be independent of the blockage effect when expressed in terms of a modified pressure coefficient involving the pressure at separation. Using the potential flow model by Parkinson & Jandali (1970) and its subsequent development in Yeung & Parkinson (2000) for the unconfined flow, a linear relation between the pressure at separation and the form drag is formulated. By solving the two equations simultaneously with a specified blockage ratio and an apex angle of the triangular cylinder, the predictions of the drag and the base pressure are in reasonable agreement with experimental data. A new theoretical relationship for the Strouhal number, pressure drag coefficient and base pressure proposed in this study allows the confinement effect to be appropriately taken into consideration. The present approach may be extended to three-dimensional bluff bodies.

A rainwater recharge model, which is combined with the quasi-three dimensional unconfined groundwater flow, is proposed in the present paper. The water budget in the catchments of the planned new campus of Kyushu University is evaluated by the present method that calculates both the surface runoff and groundwater flow simultaneously. The results obtained in the present study reveal that the calculated monthly and annual runoff discharges agree reasonably well with the observed discharge. Combining the rainwater recharge model, the two-phase groundwater flow equation is numerically solved f3r the entire area including the low land where the salt water intrusion is observed. The calculated depth of the salt-fresh interface agrees reasonably well with the observed ones at several cross sections. On the other hand, however, it is found that the calculated water budget remains uncertain because of lack of information on the accurate potential evapotranspiration including rainfall interception. In conclusion, however, it is found that the proposed method is applicable for the areas where the horizontal flow is dominant and the interface is assumed to be sharp.
In this study, laboratory tests (flow, unit weight, unconfined compressive strength and bleeding tests) were performed to evaluate engineering properties of treated soil to improve pipe mixing method. As result, flow and bleeding properties are proportional to the water contents. The unit weight and unconfined compressive strength is decreased as the water contents increased. Comparing equipments contact pressure with bearing capacity of the mixed soil for dozer, backhoe and belt conveyor are immediately appliable. The applicable water content range is estimated from 80% to 200% by pipe mixing method using cement. Also, The design chart is developed from the results.

Submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) and the interface between seawater and freshwater in an unconfined coastal aquifer was evaluated by numerical modeling. A two-dimensional vertical cross section of the aquifer was constructed. Coupled flow and salinity transport modeling were peformed by using a numerical code FEFLOW In this study, we investigated the changes in groundwater flow and salinity transport in coastal aquifer with hydraulic condition such as the magnitude of recharge flux, hydraulic conductivity. Especially, transient simulation considering tidal effect and seasonal change of recharge rate was simulated to compare the difference between quasi-steady state and transient state. Results show that SGD flux is in proportion to the recharge rate and hydraulic conductivity, and the interface between the seawater and the freshwater shows somewhat retreat toward the seaside as recharge flux increases. Considered tidal effect, SGD flux and flow directions are affected by continuous change of the sea level and the interface shows more dispersed pattern affected by velocity variation. The cases which represent variable daily recharge rate instead of annual average value also shows remarkably different result from the quasi-steady case, implying the importance of transient state simulation.
Organic matter in dredged soil has a lot of engineering problem in ground including a large settlement, crack propagation, low bearing capacity and low friction angle. From an agricultural point of view, however, organic matter contributes greatly soil quality and plant health. This paper investigated the relationship between engineering and germination characteristics of stabilized mixture consisting of different ratios of organic content (0 %, 10 %, 20 %, 30 %) for recycling dredged soil including organic matter. Several series of laboratory tests such as flow test, unconfined compressive test and consolidation test were performed to find out engineering characteristics. pH, percent of germination and growth of plants were also measured to investigate the germination characteristics. The experimental results indicated that, as organic content increased, unconfined compressive stress decreased and compression and swelling indices increased. However, percent of germination and plant growth increases as organic content increases.
