  • This paper presents a design scheme of robust parallel compensator for plants with multiple uncertainty, which realizes strict positive realness of the closed-loop system by using static output feedback. Further, an ap-proximate relation between the static output feedback control system with the proposed compensator and the PID$.$‥D$\^$r-1 control system is shown.

  • Image which appears in fashion illustration on the late twentieth century is not the representative image as an equivalence to the real fashion styles but the virtual image which bears no relation to any reality. The purpose of this study is review the concept of virtuality and analyze in which way virtual image is expressed in fashion illustrations on the background of Jean Baudrillard's simulacre theory. In post-modem paintings the expression methods of image-virtualization were image mixing through photo-image appropriation, image overlapping, and the icons inserted unreasonably, the focus-out effect through scrubbing and the over-painting on the photograph. Image-virtualization in fashion illustration was expressed through image mixing and expression of image uncertainty. Image mixing was made by photo-image appropriation, image overlapping, connection of heterogeneous images and using interface image, and uncertain image was expressed through the expression of visual ambiguity and virtual movement.

  • This paper deals with robust stability of linear time-invariant (LTI) systems with unstructured uncertainties. A new relation between uncertainties and system poles perturbed by the uncertainties is derived from a graphical analysis. A stability criterion for LTI systems with uncertainties is proposed based on this result. The migration range of the poles in the proposed criterion is represented as the bound of uncertainties, the condition number of a system matrix, and the disc containing the poles of a given nominal system. Unlike the existing methods depending on the solutions of algebraic matrix equations, the proposed criterion provides a simpler way which does not involves algebraic matrix equations, and a more flexible root clustering approach by means of adjusting the center and the radius of the disc as well as the condition number.

  • As the features of recent flood are spatially concentrated, loss of life and property increase by the impact of climate change. In addition to this the public interest in water control information is increased and socially reasonable justification of water control policy is needed. It is necessary to estimate the flood risk in order to let people know the status of flood control and establish flood control policy. For accurate flood risk analysis, we should consider inter-relation between causal factors of flood damage. Hence, flood risk analysis should be applied to interdependence of the factors selected. The Bayesian networks are ideally suited to assist decision-making in situations where there is uncertainty in the data and where the variables are highly interlinked. In this research, to provide more proper water control information the flood risk analysis is performed using the Bayesian networks to handle uncertainty and dependency among 13 specific proxy variables.

  • This paper comes to derive optimal decision rule from incomplete information using the concept of indiscernibility relation and approximation space in Rough set. As there may be some errors in case that processing information contains multiple or missing data, the method of removing or minimizing these data is required. Entropy which is used to measure uncertainty or quantity in information processing field is utilized to remove the incomplete information of rough relation database. But this paper does not always deal with the information system which may be contained incomplete information. This paper is proposed object relation entropy and attribute relation entropy using Rough set as information theoretical measures in order to remove the incomplete information which may contain condition attribute and decision attribute of information system.

  • Seismicity of the Korean Peninsula shows intraplate seismicity that has irregular pattern in both time and space. Seismic data of the Korean peninsula consists of historical earthquakes and instrumental earthquakes. In this study we devide these data into complete part and incomplete part and considering earthquake size uncertainty estimate seismic hazard parameters - activity rate λ, b value of Gutenberg-Richter relation and maximum possible earthquake IMAX by statistical method in each major tectonic provinces. These estimated values are expected to be important input parameters in probabilistic seismic hazard analysis and evaluation of design earthquake.

  • A concept called Allowable Load Set (ALS) is introduced and methods of finding its boundaries are developed. The resulting diagram allows an easy understanding of load and strength characteristics of a structure in relation to structural integrity under uncertain loading conditions. An allowable load diagram for an ALS visualizes the relation between a prescribed load and a degree of safety of the structure. During the application of the algorithms, critical areas of the structure are identified. A systematic method of finding the allowable load sets for multi-body mechanical systems is especially presented and applied to an excavator as a realistic case.

  • Estimation approaches for casual relation model with high-order factors have strict restrictions or limits. In the case of ML (Maximum Likelihood), a strong assumption which data must show a normal distribution is required and factors of exponentiation is impossible due to the uncertainty of factors. To overcome this limitation many PLS (Partial Least Squares) approaches are introduced to estimate the structural equation model including high-order factors. However, it is possible to yield biased estimates if there are some differences in the number of measurement variables connected to each latent variable. In addition, any approach does not exist to deal with general cases not having any measurement variable of high-order factors. This study compare several approaches including the repeated measures approach which are used to estimate the casual relation model including high-order factors by using PLS (Partial Least Squares), and suggest the best estimation approach. In other words, the study proposes the best approach through the research on the existing studies related to the casual relation model including high-order factors by using PLS and approach comparison using a virtual model.

  • Purpose: This study was done to understand elderly women within a community who have used lots of drugs. Method: Data was collected through in-depth interviews with four elderly women from April 2001 to February 2002. Data was analyzed by Giorgi's phenomenological method(2000). Results: The components in common with drug usage of elderly women were as follows: 'Awareness of the limitation of physical strength and uncertainty of life', 'Dread of a crisis situation occurring', 'Attachment and dependency on drugs', 'Expectation of a comfortable life and death', 'Prevention of family burden', and 'Pursuit of psychological comfort'. The general structure of experiences was as follows: causal factors were 'Awareness of uncertainty and limitation', 'dread of a crisis situation occurring' the results factor was 'Attachment and dependency on drugs' and the facilitating factors were 'Expectation of a comfortable life and death', 'Prevention of family burden', and 'Pursuit of psychological comfort'. The causal relation was cyclic. This structure showed a realistic adaptation pattern. Conclusion: This study contributed to provide fundamental data for nursing interventions for health promotion and promoting quality of life in elderly women by increasing understanding of the experiences of drugs use.

  • An approach determining a confidence interval of Nash's observed mean instantaneous unit hydrograph is developed. In the approach, both two parameters are treated as correlated gaussian random variables based on the theory of Box-Cox transformation and the regional similarity relation, so that linear statistical parameter estimation is possible. A parametric bootstrap method is adopted to give the confidence interval of the mean observed hydrograph. The proposed methodology is also applicable to estimate the parameters of Nash's model for un-gauged basins. An application to a watershed has shown that the proposed approach is adequate to assess the uncertainty of the Nash's hydrograph and to evaluate parameters for un-gauged basins.
