A Technique to Reduce Measurement Uncertainty Using Multisensors (다중센서의 사용에 의한 계측의 불확실성 감소기법)

  • Sensory measurements are inevitably uncertain, and this may decrease the reliability of sensor feedback systems. In this paper we present a method to achieve reliable measurements using multiple sensors. Assuming sensors with unknown characteristics in dynamic surroundings, readings from the sensors are clustered and fused with the estimated degrees of credit. In the experiment performed with logical sensors the technique proposed is employed to adaptively estimate the measurand under the circumstances where an existing probabilistic technique is difficult to be applied. The technique proposed may be useful for automatic systems working in unstructured environments - for example, sensory robots employed for intelligent manipulation.

  • The quasistatic approximation is incorporated in HEXKIN, a 2-group, 2-dimensional reactor kinetics code specially developed for a hexagonal lattice-type reactor. The code allows maximum 15 delayed neutron groups, 279 lattice points, and 500 different driving functions to be able to initiate perturbation at each lattice point. Reactivity feedback due to power-dependent fuel temperature change is also involved. To check the accuracy of the code, a result of numerical experiment is compared with the measurement at the Savannah River Laboratory. The experiment was specifically designed to emphasize delayed neutron holdback. The calculated flux tilts agree with the measured flux tilts within the small uncertainty of the measurements.

  • We propose the method for kinematic and dynamic modeling and Path-tracking of four-wheeled mobile robots with 2 d.o.f having the limited drive-torques. Controllability of wheeled-mobile robots is revealed by using the kinematic model. Instantaneously coincident coordinate system, force/torque propagation and Newton's equilibrium law are used to induce the dynamic model. When drive-torques generated by inverse dynamics exceed the limitation, we make wheeled-mobile robots follow the reference path by modifying the planned reference trajectory with time-scaling. The controller is introduced to compensate for error owing to modeling uncertainty and measurement noise. And simulation results prove that the method proposed by this paper is efficient.

A Robust Fault Location Algorithm for Single Line-to-ground Fault in Double-circuit Transmission Systems

  • This paper proposes an enhanced noise robust algorithm for fault location on double-circuit transmission line for the case of single line-to-ground (SLG) fault, which uses distributed parameter line model that also considers the mutual coupling effect. The proposed algorithm requires the voltages and currents from single-terminal data only and does not require adjacent circuit current data. The fault distance can be simply determined by solving a second-order polynomial equation, which is achieved directly through the analysis of the circuit. The algorithm, which employs the faulted phase network and zero-sequence network with source impedance involved, effectively eliminates the effect of load flow and fault resistance on the accuracy of fault location. The proposed algorithm is tested using MATLAB/Simulink under different fault locations and shows high accuracy. The uncertainty of source impedance and the measurement errors are also included in the simulation and shows that the algorithm has high robustness.

Optimal Design of the Nuclear Steam Generator Digital Water Level Control System (증기발생기 디지탈 수위조절 시스템의 최적설계)

  • A digital control system for the steam generator oater level control is developed using the optimal control technique. To describe the more realistic situation, a feedwater valve actuator of the first order lag is included in the overall control system. The optimal gains are obtained by the LQ method which imposes the constraints on the feedwater valve motion as well as on the deviation between the input demand signal and the output feedwater. Developed also is a Kalman observer on account of the flow measurement uncertainty at low power. And a digital controller on the feedback loop is designed which makes the system maintain the same stability margins for all power ranges. The simulation results show that the optimal digital system has good control characteristics despite the adverse dynamics of the steam generator at low power.

  • Modelling and simulating the wind power intermittent behaviour are the basis of the planning and scheduling studies concerning wind power integration. The wind power outputs are evidently correlated in space and time and bring challenges in characterizing their behaviour. This paper provides a methodology to model and simulate the clustered wind power considering its spatio-temporal correlations using the theory of copula. The sampling approach captures the complex spatio-temporal connections among the wind farms by employing a conditional density function calculated using multidimensional copula function. The empirical study of real wind power measurement shows how the wind power outputs are correlated and how these correlations affect the overall uncertainty of clustered wind power output. The case study validates the simulation technique by comparing the simulated results with the real measurements.

  • The Quantum Hall Resistance(QHR) device which consists of GaAs/AlGaAs heterojunction structure is used for the realization of QHR Standard based on QHE. In order to characterize electrical contact resistances and dissipations of the device, it is slowly cooled down for eliminating thermal shock and unwanted noise. Then, the two properties are measured under 1.5 K and 5.15 T. Contact resistances are all within 1.2 Ω and longitudinal resistivities are all within 1 mΩ up to DC 90${\mu}$A. The results mean the device is operated well to realize the QHR Standard. To confirm it, the QHR Standard having the device is compared using a direct current comparator bridge with a 1 Ω resistance standard which the calibrated value is known from QHR standards maintained by other countries. The difference between them is agreed well within measurement uncertainty. It is thus considered that the properties of the device is estimated well and has good performance.

  • In this paper, the design method of target tracking systems using the extended $H^{\infty}$ filter(EHF) is proposed. Usually, a Cartesian coordinate frame is tell suited to describe the target dynamics. However, the measurements made in radar-centered polar coordinates are expressed as nonlinear equations in Cartesian coordinates. Thus the tacking problem is concerned with the nonlinear estimation. The extended $H^{\infty}$ filter is able to deal with the problems arising in the target tacking systems such as the parameter uncertainty included inevitably in modeling physical systems mathematically, the unavailableness of the stochastic information about exogenous disturbances, and errors due to the linearization of measurement equations. We show the proposed filter is robuster than the extended Kalman filter(EKF) through a simple target tracking example.

Long-Term Wind Resource Mapping of Korean West-South Offshore for the 2.5 GW Offshore Wind Power Project

  • A long-term wind resource map was made to provide the key design data for the 2.5 GW Korean West-South Offshore Wind Project, and its reliability was validated. A one-way dynamic downscaling of the MERRA reanalysis meteorological data of the Yeongwang-Gochang offshore was carried out using WindSim, a Computational Fluid Dynamics based wind resource mapping software, to establish a 33-year time series wind resource map of 100 m x 100 m spatial resolution and 1-hour interval temporal resolution from 1979 to 2012. The simulated wind resource map was validated by comparison with wind measurement data from the HeMOSU offshore meteorological tower, the Wangdeungdo Island meteorological tower, and the Gochang transmission tower on the nearby coastline, and the uncertainty due to long-term variability was analyzed. The long-term variability of the wind power was investigated in inter-annual, monthly, and daily units while the short-term variability was examined as the pattern of the coefficient of variation in hourly units. The results showed that the inter-annual variability had a maximum wind index variance of 22.3% while the short-term variability, i.e., the annual standard deviation of the hourly average wind power, was $0.041{\pm}0.001$, indicating steady variability.
