An Analysis of 3GPP and 3GPP2 Communication Networks for Supporting Location Based Services (위치기반서비스를 제공하는 3GPP와 3GPP2 통신망 비교 분석)

  • Various tries are in progress to expand the usability of wireless telecommunication harminized internet technology. The most typical example among those services is LBS(Location Based Service). Nowaday, Standards for telecommunication system of LBS centers round on 3GPP(3rd Generation Partnership Project) and 3GPP2. In this paper we compare the telecommunication system of 3GPP and 3GPP2 in order to make domestic standards of telecommunication system to provide LBS. First, we investigate network models and interfaces of GSM(Global System for Mobile) and ANSI(America National Standard Institute)-41/PCS1900 - Telecommunication type of 2nd generation. Also we consider those of UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication System) and cdma2000 - Telecommunication type of 3nd generation. Then we analysis function components for LBS of each network models details.

Selective temporal error concealment method for H.264/AVC (H.264/AVC를 위한 선택적 시간축 에러 은닉 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a new selective temporal error concealment algerian best suited for H.264/AVC. The proposed algorithm performs selective temporal error concealment depending on whether the lost block is at background or foreground. It the corrupted macroblock is decided as at background, then the simple temporal replacement is performed. Also we propose replacing a lost block at foreground with the selective average of respectively estimated blocks from the multiple reference frames. This paper supposes error-corrupted H.264/AVC video bitstreams over CDMA2000 (or UMTS) air interface. It is shown that under Flexible Macroblock Ordering (FMO) coding of H.264/AVC, the proposed algorithm provides PSNR gain up to 1.18dB compared to built-in algorithm in the K264/AVC test model. In addition, the proposed error concealment method has average PSNR improvement of 0.33dB compared with that under N-slice coding mode. The proposed algorithm also provides better subjective video quality than other conventional error concealment algorithms.

Thermal Memory Effect Modeling and Compensation in Doherty Amplifier (Doherty 증폭기의 열 메모리 효과 모델링과 보상)

  • Memory effect, which influence the performance of Doherty amplifier, become more significant and critical in designing these circuits as the modulation signal bandwidth and operation power level increase. This paper reports on an attempt to investigate, model and quantity the contribution of the electrical nonlinearity effects and the thermal memory effects to a Doherty amplifier's distortion generation. Also this raper reports on the development of an accurate dynamic expression of the instantaneous junction temperature as a function of the instantaneous dissipated power. This expression has been used in the construction of an electrothermal model for the Doherty amplifier. Parameters for the nelv proposed behavior model were determined from the Doherty amplifier measurements obtained under different excitation conditions. This study led us to conclude that the effects of the transistor self-heating phenomenon are important for signals with wideband modulation bandwidth(ex. W-CDMA or UMTS signal). Doherty amplifier with electrothermal memory effect compensator enhanced ACLR performance about 20 dB than without electrothemal memory effect compensator. Experiment results were mesured by 60W LDMOS Doherty amplifier and electrothermal memory effect compensator was simulated by ADS.

Digital Predistortion Algorithm using Techniques of Temperature Compensation (온도보상 기법을 적용한 디지털 방식의 사전 왜곡제거기 알고리듬)

  • In this paper, we proposed predistortion algerian that can compensate temperature distortion by digital. Predistortion algorithm produces compensation value of distortion by temperature as well as system nonlinear distortion by input level, and warps beforehand signal of baseband. To prove excellency of such algorithm we applied predistortion algorithm to Saleh's high power amplifier model, and did computer simulation. As a result, P1dB increased about 0.5 dBm phase shift reduced about $0.8^{o}$ than existent the A&P PD, and predistiortion algorithm to apply temperature compensation techniques improved P1dB about 2dBm and stabilized phase shift by about $0.1^{o}$ low. When approved UMTS's sample signal to this amplifier, IMD3 of amplifier decreased 10dBm than is no temperature compensation techniques, and reduced 19dBm than signal that is no distortion.

Construction and Measurement of a T-DMB/GPS/Mobile Antenna for Vehicular Application (차량에 적용 가능한 T-DMB/GPS/Mobile 안테나의 제작과 측정)

  • This paper presents the design of a novel integrated T-DMB/GPS/Mobile antenna for vehicular application. The T-DMB antenna is designed with a modified meander-type microstrip patch providing linearly a polarized broadside radiation pattern. The GPS antenna is designed with an inserted slot in the patch antenna providing circularly polarized broadside radiation pattern. The Mobile (GSM, AMPS, DCS, PCS, UMTS, etc.) antenna is designed as a modified G-type patch antenna providing multi-band operation. Experimental results indicate that the impedance bandwidth (VSWR 1:2.5) of the proposed T-DMB /GPS/Mobile antenna satisfactorily matches that of the simulation results. The 2D and 3D radiation patterns and gains according to the results of the experiment are also presented and discussed.

Design of Wideband Planar Inverted-F Antenna Using Two-Layer Patches and Modified Ground Structure (이중층 패치와 부분 제거된 접지면을 이용한 광대역 평판형 역 F 안테나의 설계)

  • In this paper, we proposed a wideband design of planar inverted-F antenna(PIFA) using two-layer, patches and modified ground structure. The antenna consists of two layer patches with common feed and modified ground plane to control resonance frequency and antenna input impedance. The measured bandwidth is 1,492 MHz(BW: 67.7 %, 1,457${\sim}2,949$ MHz) for VSWR<2, and 1,170 MHz(BW: 21 %, 4,970${\sim}$6,140 MHz) for VSWR<2.5. It covers service bands of DCS1800, DCS1900, UMTS(WCDMA), WiBro, WLAN(IEEE 802.11b), satellite DMB. WLAN(IEEE 802.11a) in Korea and radiation patterns shows constant figure with frequency change.

Fast OVSF Code Generation Method using Multi-Stage Spreading Scheme (다단 확산 방식을 이용한 효율적인 OVSF 코드 생성 기법)

  • This paper proposes the fast OVSF code generation method using the multi-stage spreading scheme based on the single code indexing scheme. The conventional OVSF indexing scheme based on the code-tree structure uses two numbers as the codeword indices, the layer number and the code number of the corresponding layer. However, the single code index number implicitly includes the information of the spreading factor as well as the code number. Since the binary representation of the single code indices shows the pattern of the codeword, the orthogonality between two different codewords can be determined by comparing their code indices instead of much longer codewords. The above useful property also makes the codeword can be generated directly kom its single code index. In this paper, the multi-stage spreading scheme is applied to generate the long code by spreading two shorter codewords with the appropriate code indices. The proposed fast code generation algorithm is designed for 3GPP UMTS systems and verified by the simulations.

High Level Design and Performance Evaluation for the Implementation of WCDMA Base Station Modem (WCDMA 기지국 모뎀의 구현을 위한 상위 레벨 설계 및 통합 성능 평가)

  • In this paper, we propose a high level design architecture of WCDMA(UMTS) base station modem and synchronization algorithms applied to the proposed architecture. Also analysis of each synchronization algorithm and performance evaluation of fixed point designed modem are shown. Since the target system is base station modem, each synchronization algorithm is designed for its stable operation. To minimize implementation complexity, optimum fixed point design for best operation of synchronization algorithms is performed. We performed symbol level link simulation with fixed point designed modem simulator for data rate of 12.2kbps, 64kbps, 144kbps, and 384kbps. We compared performance results to the minimum requirements specified in 3GPP TS 25.104(Release 5). Extensive computer simulation shows that the proposed modem architecture has stable operation and outperform the minimum requirement by 2 dB. The proposed modem architecture has been applied in the implementation of WCDMA reverse link receiver modem chip successfully.

  • The UMTS is the most widely used specifications to deploy a mobile system and it supports an automatic roaming function. Users in the UMTS can use their phone numbers even in foreign countries without having to change their mobile phones. Also some users want to use other phone numbers which are allocated in foreign countries. To meet such requirements, many methods have been proposed. However, those require much cost to adopt or are not easy to use. In this paper, we propose a software framework that provides multiple MSISDNs with a single IMSI. The roaming SCP is adopted to modify the procedure of the location update and the mobile-terminated call. In the performance evaluation, we compared the proposed scheme with the standard scheme and the schemes in the related works. The results showed that the proposed scheme has 7.6% lower signaling cost than the mobile-station-based scheme and 9.7% lower cost than the telecommunication-network-based scheme.

Antenna Design of Mobile Frequency bands for Vehicular Application (휴대 단말 주파수 대역에서 동작하는 차량용 안테나 설계)

  • This paper presents the design of a novel integrated mobile antenna for vehicles. The proposed antenna fabricated on a low cost easily available FR4 substrate, which effectively covers both dual band operation. The proposed mobile antenna is a modified G-type patch antenna that can operate in various frequency bands, GSM (880~960 MHz), AMPS (824~894MHz), DCS (1710~1880MHz), PCS (1850~1990MHz), UMTS (1920~2170). Experimental results indicate that the impedance bandwidth (VSWR 1:2.5) of the proposed mobile antenna agree that of the simulation results. It was validated that the configuration can meet the demands of Mobile frequency bands and effectively enhanced the impedance bandwidth to 36.46% for the lower band and 27.84% for the upper band. This paper also presents and discusses the 3D radiation patterns and gains according to the results of the experiment.
