구조물 건전도 평가를 위한 모르타르 내 공극 초음파 탐상 (Ultrasonic Testing of Voids inside Mortar for Structural Integrity Evaluation)

  • Structural integrity of reinforced concrete structures including nuclear power plants needs to be evaluated on a regular basis. Deterioration inside the concrete structures can be represented by voids. In this study, the varied volume fraction of voids inside mortar specimens was studied as a parameter using ultrasonic testing equipments. Both direct and indirect measurement methods were employed. The results show that there is a clear distinction between the specimens with different void volume fractions.

미강유적용 소형 디젤기관의 타당성 검증 및 성능실험에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Feasibility Test & the Performance Experiment of Small Type Diesel Engine using the an Rice-bran oil)

  • Bio-diesel oil is a great possibility to solve the pollution problem caused by the exhaust gas from diesel engine vehicles. Recently the use of bio-oils in disel engines has received considerable attention to the forseeable depletion of world oil supplies. So, Bio-diesel oil has been attracted with attentions as an alternative and clean energy source. The objective of this paper is to experimentally investigate the characteristic of performance using light oil, rice-bran oil, heated rice-bran oil, rice-bran oil treated with ultrasonic energy. We included rice-bran oil and applied ultrasonic energy to highly viscous bio-oils. These methods seems to have never been tried yet. The final data may be able to be applicated for the design of the diesel engine using an alternative fuel.

  • Ultrasonic cleaning is performed by cavitation which is caused by the change of the sound pressure due to the vibration in a cleaning tank. In this study, experiments on electric power and sound pressure with various temperatures, dissolved oxygen and the level of the fluid was done in order to find out how the changes in a cleaning tank affect cavitation. As a result of a series of experiments, we found that transducer impedance changes periodically in response to the variances of fluid and have a direct influence on cleaning efficiency.

Improved Attenuation Estimation of Ultrasonic Signals Using Frequency Compounding Method

  • Ultrasonic attenuation is an important parameter in Quantitative Ultrasound and many algorithms have been proposed to improve estimation accuracy and repeatability for multiple independent estimates. In this work, we propose an improved algorithm for estimating ultrasonic attenuation utilizing the optimal frequency compounding technique based on stochastic noise model. We formulate mathematical compounding equations in the AWGN channel model and solve optimization problems to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio for multiple frequency components. Individual estimates are calculated by the reference phantom method which provides very stable results in uniformly attenuating regions. We also propose the guideline to select frequency ranges of reflected RF signals. Simulation results using numerical phantoms show that the proposed optimal frequency compounding method provides improved accuracy while minimizing estimation bias. The estimation variance is reduced by only 16% for the un-compounding case, whereas it is reduced by 68% for the uniformly compounding case. The frequency range corresponding to the half-power for reflected signals also provides robust and efficient estimation performance.

초음파 모터 구동방식의 역감제시 기구 (Hand Exoskeleton with PWM Driving Method)

  • In this paper, we present an exoskeletal haptic device named SKK Hand Master. This device is directly driven linkages actuated with small ultrasonic motors. By adopting ultrasonic motors that have advantageous features useful for cybernetic actuators, a compact haptic device containing whole driving packages can be established without additional power transmissions such as tendons. Methods for measuring joint postures and joint torques are developed and a new control strategy called PWM/PS is proposed to overcome intrinsic disadvantages such as hysteresis. Issues regarding design and construction of the device are addressed and several results of experiments for the evaluations of performance are included.

Development of an Ultrasonic Nebulizer Using a Domestic Humidifier

  • An inexpensive ultrasonic nebulizer (USN) was developed utilizing a home humidifier. The ultrasonic transducer was taken from a commercial USN and the power supply was from a humidifier. Sample was continuously fed into the nebulizer and the detection limit was improved 3-20 times over a pneumatic nebulizer. Undesirably, noise in signal was also increased several times. 0.5 ppm of Mn was used as an internal reference and the "long-term" drift could be successfully corrected. Since the noise contained high and low frequency components, both could be effectively removed only by the real-time correction method such as the Myer-Tracy method, where the reference line was simultaneously monitored with the analytical lines. The performance of USN was tested with NIST SRMs and showed good agreement with the certified values.

신경회로망을 이용한 철도레일 용접부의 건전성평가 (The Integrity Evaluation of weld zone in railway rails Using Neural Network)

  • This study proposes the neural network simulator for the integrity evaluation of weld zone in railway rails. For these purposes, the ultrasonic signals for defects(crack) of weld zone in frames are acquired in the type of time series data and echo strength. The detection of the natural defects in railway truck is performed using the characteristics of echodynamic pattern in ultrasonic signal. And then their applications evaluated feature extraction based on the time-frequency-attractor domain(peak to peak, rise time, rise slope, fall time, fall slope, pulse duration, power spectrum, and bandwidth) and attractor characteristics (fractal dimension and attractor quadrant) etc. The constructed neural network simulator agrees fairly well with the measured results of test block(defect location, beam propagation distance, echo strength, etc). The Proposed neural network simulator in this study can be used for the integrity evaluation of weld zone in railway rails.

탄소섬유 보강 콘크리트의 박리 탐사 실험 (Experiments on the Detection of Delamination in FRP Reinforced Concrete)

  • 구조물의 성능평가에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 비파괴 검사 기술에 대한 요구는 계속 증가하고 있다. 이 중에서 전자파법을 이용한 비파괴 검사 기술은 콘크리트 구조물의 균열 탐사에 유용하다고 입증되어 왔고 탄소섬유 (FRP)로 보강된 콘크리트 구조물의 계면 박리를 탐사하는데도 효율적으로 쓰일 수 있을 것으로 예상되었다. 또한 초음파법을 이용한 비파괴 검사 기술도 적용 가능할 것으로 예상되었다. 이번 연구의 목적은 전자기파법 및 초음파법을 이용하여 FRP로 보강된 콘크리트 구조물의 박리를 탐사하기 위한 신뢰성 있는 기술을 개발하는데 있다. 기초 실험을 위하여 스티로폼을 이용하여 인위박리 콘크리트 보강시편을 제작하였고 측정을 실시하였다. 전자기파법을 이용한 연구에서는 기존 안테나 대신에 중심 주파수 15 GHz, 대역폭 10 GHz의 성능을 가진 혼 안테나를 사용하였고 초음파법을 이용한 연구에서는 콘크리트 균열용 상용 장비인 TR-300에 박리측정용 탐촉자를 사용하여 측정을 실시하였다. 두 가지 방법 모두 박리의 유무를 판별하는데 성공하였고 더욱 정밀한 결과를 위하여 향후 연구 방향을 제시하였다.

스테인리스 304L강의 수소장입시간에 대한 비파괴기법 적용 (Application of Nondestructive Technique on Hydrogen Charging Times of Stainless Steel 304L)

  • Embrittlement of material by hydrogen charging should be cleared for safety of storage vessel of hydrogen and components deal with hydrogen. A stainless steel is generally used as materials for hydrogen transportation and storage, and it has a big advantage of corrosion resistance due to nickel component in material. In this study, microscopic damage behavior of stainless steel according to the hydrogen charging time using nondestructive evaluation was studied. The surface of stainless steel became more brittle as the hydrogen charging time increased. The parameters of nondestructive evaluation were also changed with the embrittlement of stainless steel surface by hydrogen charging. Ultrasonic test, which is the most generalized nondestructive technique, was applied to evaluate the relationship between the ultrasonic wave and mechanical properties of stainless steel by hydrogen charging. The attenuation coefficient of ultrasonic wave was increased with hydrogen charging time because of surface embrittlement of stainless steel. In addition, acoustic emission test was also used to study the dynamic behavior of stainless steel experienced hydrogen charging. AE event at the hydrogen charged specimen was obviously decreased at the plastic zone of stress-strain curves, while the number of event for the specimen of hydrogen free was dramatically generated when compared with the specimens underwent hydrogen charging.

퍼지이론을 이용한 압력용기 용접부 초음파 결함 특성 분류 (Defects Classification with UT Signals in Pressure Vessel Weld by Fuzzy Theory)

  • 원자력발전소 압력용기 및 배관은 많은 용접부를 포함하고 있으며 용접부내 결함은 크기, 위치 및 형태에 따라 압력용기 및 배관의 건전성에 커다란 영향을 미친다. 따라서 주요 압력용기와 배관의 용접부에 대해서는 가동 전 중 검사시 초음파 탐상시험을 실시하여 그 건전성을 확인하고 있다. 초음파 결함 신호로부터의 결함 분류는 비파괴 평가에 있어 매우 중요하며 초음파 형상 인식 방법이 적당하다. 본 논문에서는 탄소강 압력용기 용접부에 내재하는 결함으로부터 얻어진 초음파 결함 신호의 형상 인식을 위한 절차로써 데이터 수집, 특징 추출, 특징 선택 및 결함 분류를 하였으며, 결함 분류에 있어 결함의 종류를 크게 선형(linear)과 체적(volumetric)의 두 종류로 분류함에 있어 퍼지이론을 적용하여 퍼지이론을 적용한 초음파 형상 인식 기법의 가능성 및 효율성을 제시하였고 그 결과 기존의 분류기(classifier)들에 비해 보다 우수한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.
