초음파 위상 반전에 의한 FRP/고무 접착계면의 미접착 결함 검출 연구 (Debonding Detection Techniques of FRP/Rubber Interface by the Ultrasonic Phase Reversal)

  • 본 연구는 이종 접착 재질의 접착계면에서 미접착 결함을 검출하기 위한 새로운 시험 기법을 개발하기 위함이다. 접착계면과 미접착계면에서의 초음파 전달 현상을 이론적으로 해석하여 초음파 신호를 모델링하였고, 이론적 분석에 기초하여 미접착계면에서의 위상 반전 현상을 애용한 검사 방법을 FRP/고무 시편에 적용하였다. 정량적으로 결함의 최소 검출 능력을 평가하기 위하여 알루미늄/고무 시편에 평저공을 가공하여 제작하였고 일반적으로 사용하고 있는 펄스에코반사법과 새로운 시험 기법인 위상반전법을 상호 비교하였으며 이론적으로 예측한 초음파 신호와 실험에서 얻은 초음파 신호를 근거로 위상반전법으로 미접착 결함을 검출할 수 있다고 판단하였다.

  • 기존의 펄스에코법은 스틸 연소관 내부에서 고무면으로 초음파를 입사시키므로 검사 도중에 고무면이 오염될 수 있으며, 이로 인해 치명적인 미접착 결함을 유발시킬 수 있다. 상기 방법을 보완할 수 있는 시험기법을 개발하기 위해 스틸/고무 접착 시험편을 제작하여 스틸면으로 초음파를 입사시켰다. 스틸/고무 접착 시험편으로부터 측정한 고무 공진 주파수는 이론적으로 예측한 공진 주파수와 일치하였다. 본 논문은 고무 공진 주파수를 이용하여 고무 두께를 측정할 수 있는 초음파 공진법에 대해 기술하였다.

Ultrasonic Velocity and Absorption Measurements for Polyacrylamide and Water Solutions

  • Both ultrasonic velocity at 3 MHz and absorption coefficient for the frequency range of 0.2-2 MHz were measured in an aqueous solution of polyacrylamide for the concentration range of 0.5% to 2.5% by weight. Pulse echo overlap method was taken for measuring the ultrasonic velocity over the temperature range of 10-90℃ and the high-Q ultrasonic resonator method was used for the absorption coefficient at 30℃. The velocity exhibited a maximum value at approximately 70℃, 71℃, 72℃, 73℃ and 74℃ in 2.5%, 2.0%, 1.5%, 1.0%, and 0.5% solutions, respectively. The velocity increased with the concentration at a given temperature. The ultrasonic absorption (a/f²) at a given temperature increased linearly with the concentration for the concentration below 1.5%, but suddenly increased for the concentration above 1.5% concentration. The value of a/f² at 1MHz was entirely due to the classical Stoke's viscous effect. The ultrasonic relaxation in polyacrylamide aqueous solutions, which may be the result of structural fluctuations of polymer molecules such as the segmental motion of the polymer chains, was observed, and at 2.5%, the value of a/f² was found to suddenly increase as frequency decreased.

  • In this paper, ultrasonic tomography by the Mode-Converted Rayleigh wave (MCRW) in the back-scattered direction is presented. When a beam with a short pulse and narrow beam width enters a reflector with smooth surface, in general, two major arrivals can be observed in the output waveform: the specular reflection and the radiation of the MCRW from the reflector surface. The time-delay between the two waves is relatively large and thus can be measured easily. This large time-delay is due to the fact that the MCRW is slower than incident wave. In our method, this large time- delay is used for ultrasonic image reconstruction. To effectively detect the MCRW, the arrayed-receiving transducers are circularly arranged around the transmitter. In addition, a deconvolution method is employed to remove specular echo signals for reconstructing the MCRW image.

  • This paper presents a numerical simulation of guided ultrasonic waves propagating in aluminum-epoxy-aluminum adhesive plates. In particular, this study investigated the effect of the epoxy thickness on the dispersive patterns, such as the phase velocity and group velocity of guided ultrasonic waves. In addition to investigating the dispersive curves, a numerical simulation using the pulse-echo method was carried out. This simulation showed that the degree of sensitivity of the epoxy thickness is dependent on the curvature of the phase and group dispersion curves, the maximum amplitude of the received time signals, and the peak frequency of the real components of the Fourier transform. Then, the linear relations between the epoxy thickness and the received and transformed signals were constructed to estimate the epoxy thickness.

Time Reversal Beam Focusing of Ultrasonic Array Transducer on a Defect in a Two Layer Medium

  • The ability of time reversal techniques to focus ultrasonic beams on the source location is important in many aspects of ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation. In this paper, we investigate the time reversal beam focusing of ultrasonic array sensors on a defect in layered media. Numerical modeling is performed using the commercially available software which employs a time domain finite difference method. Two different time reversal approaches are considered - the through transmission and the pulse-echo. Linear array sensors composed of N elements of line sources are used for signal reception/excitation, time reversal, and reemission in time reversal processes associated with the scattering source of a side-drilled hole located in the second layer of two layer structure. The simulation results demonstrate the time reversal focusing even with multiple reflections from the interface of layered structure. We examine the focusing resolution that is related to the propagation distance, the size of array sensor and the wavelength.

음속의 응력의존성을 이용한 재료 상태평가에 대한 기초적 연구 (A Basic Research on Estimation of Material Condition by Using Stress Dependency of Sound Speed)

  • In the conventional linear elasticity, sound speed is determined by only elastic modulus and density of the medium. In actual, however, sound speed depends on the stress and this dependency becomes nonlinear as the stress increases. These phenomena can be introducing nonlinear elastic modulus. In this paper, relationships between nonlinear elastic modulus up to 4th order and the internal status of materials are discussed through computer simulations and experiments. For the measurement of sound speed, a new type of measurement system using ultrasonic wave is proposed on the basis of ultrasonic pulse echo method which has been generally used in nondestructive ultrasonic test equipment. In order to confirm the stress dependency of sound speed, several experiments are carried out for alumina specimen.

  • For the evaluation of a flaw in a welded stainless steel by the Time of Flight Diffraction(TOFD) Method, we have made the reference specimen for experimentation. As a result, we could analyze a specific character and the inner state of the structure in a welded stainless steel and we came to the conclusion as followed. (1) For analyze the structure state of a section in a welded stainless steel through the optical microscope, we could have analyzed the generated shape and the location of a flaw and the inner parts of the structure state through the microscope of eighty magnification and two hundred magnification about the soundness, the heat affected zone(HAZ) and the welded part. (2) Through the comparison with the shape and the size of a flaw in the welded part about the conventional ultrasonic test and the TOFD Method, we could make an observation the special character of the TOFD Method and principles. (3) We analyzed and collected the merit of the TOFD Method on the basis of the experimental result by the shape and the size of a flaw in the inner welded parts. So, we made up a base that we could use as a basic data for a similar flaw like that. Through the study as mentioned above, we could make an observation the flaw detective method and principles used in the TOFD Method.

협대역 초음파 신호를 이용한 시간 영역에서의 감쇠 지수 예측 (Time-domain Estimation Algorithm for Ultrasonic Attenuation using Narrow-filtered Signals)

  • The VSA(Video Signal Analysis) method is the time-domain approach for estimating ultrasonic attenuation which utilizes the envelop signals from backscattered rf signals. The echogenicity of backscattered ultrasonic signals, however, from deeper depths are distorted when the broadband transmit pulse is used and it degrades the estimation accuracy of attenuation coefficients. We propose the modified VSA method using adaptive bandpass filters according to the centroid shift of echo signals as a pulse propagates. The technique of dual-reference diffraction compensation is also proposed to minimize the estimation errors because the difference of attenuation properties between the reference and sample aggravates the estimation accuracy when the differences are accumulated in deeper depth. The proposed techniques minimize the distortion of relative echogenicity and maximize the signal-to-noise ratio at the given depth. Simulation results for numerical tissue-mimicking phantoms show that the Rectangular-shaped filter with the appropriate center frequency exhibits the best estimation performance and the technique of the dual-reference diffraction compensation dramatically improves accuracy for the region after the beam focus.
