In this paper we propose three existing reflection removal algorithms and one proposed algorithm to estimate accurate targets in near field using IR-UWB (Impulse-Radio Ultra Wideband) radar. The received signal includes unnecessary reflected wave signals to the target signal. A reflective cancellation algorithm was used to remove unnecessary signals and estimate only the correct target signal. The location of the targets is estimated in real time with one transmitting antenna and one receiving antenna. In order to overcome the disadvantages of the existing three reflection removal algorithms, we propose a new reflection removal algorithm and estimate the most accurate target. Also we used DSP(Digital Signal Processor) to install the external mounting of vehicles. This paper will contribute to the study of the future reflections.

The frequency-hopping sequence is a type of user-specific code that has been used in various ways in military communication, Bluetooth, and ultra-wideband communications. In a practical communication environment, a frequency-hopping sequence with an alphabet and a length suitable for the number of available frequencies and transmission period is required. Therefore, the design of the frequency-hopping sequence having various parameters is a very important problem in frequency-hopping spread-spectrum communication. To this end, this paper explores a method of synthesizing a sequence of a new length through the synthesis of existing frequency-hopping sequences. As a result, it is possible to present the possibility of frequency-hopping sequences applicable to various environments of communications.

The multi-band (MB) ultra-wideband (UWB) communication system divides its available frequency spectrum in 3.1 to 10.6GHz into 16 sub-bands, which leads to inherent disparities between carrier frequencies of each sub-band. For instance, the highest carrier frequency is 2.65 times higher than the lowest one. Since the propagation loss is proportional to the square of the transmission frequency, the propagation loss on the sub-band having the highest carrier frequency is approximately 7 times larger than that on the sub-band having the lowest carrier frequency, which results in disparities between received signal powers on each sub-band. In this paper, we propose a novel correlation scheme for frequency hopping (FH) MB UWB communications, where the correlation time is adaptively adjusted relative to the sub-band, which reduces the disparity between the received signal energies on each sub-band. Such compensation for lower received powers on sub-bands having higher carrier frequency leads to an improvement on the total average bit error rate (BER) of the entire FH MB UWB communication system. We analyze the performance of the proposed correlation scheme in Nakagami fading channels, and it is shown that the performance gain provided by the proposed correlator is more significant as the Nakagami fading index n increases (i.e., better channel conditions).

In this paper, we propose an interference cancellation(IC) scheme using a partial Rake(PRAKE) combining in ultra-wideband(UWB) multipath fading channels. In this IC scheme, differently from the conventional transmitter model, which employs a guard interval between each frame, the guard interval is employed between each slot for estimating the multiple access interference(MAI). The UWB systems using the proposed IC scheme have little performance degradation without regard to the number of user, while the conventional UWB systems have a significant performance degradation according to the number of user. In order to reduce the receiver complexity, the PRAKE combining of post-canceled signal and the partial user IC scheme are also proposed.

Ultra wideband (UWB) technologies have been developed to exploit a new spectrum resource in substances and to realize ultra-high-speed communication, high precision geolocation, and other applications. The energy of UWB signal is extremely spread from near DC to a few GHz. This means that the interference between conventional narrowband systems and UWB systems is inevitable. However, the interference effects had not previously been studied from UWB wireless systems to conventional mobile wireless systems sharing the frequency bands such as Cellular CDMA and Korean PCS. This paper experimentally evaluates the interference from two kinds of UWB sources, namely a direct-sequence spread-spectrum UWB source and an impulse radio UWB source, to a Cellular CDMA and K-PCS digital transmission system. The average frame error rate degradation of each system arc presented. From these experimental results, we show that in all practical cases UWB system can coexist with Cellular CDMA and K-PCS terminal without causing any dangerous interference.

In this paper, we propose and analyze M-ary pulse order time hopping multiple access ultra wideband (PO-THMA UWB) system using modified Hermite polynomial (MHP). The MHP pulses have a mutually orthogonal property between different ordered pulses and that property makes simultaneous transmission at the same time slot regardless of collision in the THMA-UWB system. Therefore, we derive the cross-correlation furlction of MHP pulses and analyze the BER of the proposed system and show that the BER performance and the transmission capacity are improved dramatically when compared with those of conventional THMA-UWB system.

The analysis of RF performance requirement conditions on communication system is critical indicator to predict the performance of system. UWB(Ultra Wide Band) system which the standard is not established yet is difficult to derive the precise system performance requirement condition. Also, there are differences between conventional UWB system and multi-band system about RF performance requirement condition. In this thesis, the differences are analyzed and performance requirement conditions of multi-band UWB system are described on the basis of the differences. Throughput, maximum transmit power, and sensitivity of multi-band UWB system is varied with respect to the number of Sub-Bands. In addition, because of Multi-path effect, if PRF(Pulse Repetition Frequency) is changed, the Multi-path link margin is happened to compensate for Multi-path Energy Loss which is contributed by increasing of the Link Margin. According to Multi-path Margin, the variation of the resistance with respect to sensitivity and interference signal is observed and analyzed through the simulation.

In this paper, we propose a UWB(Ultra Wide Band) antenna with CPW(Coplanar Waveguide) structure notched the 802.11a(5.15 ~ 5.825 GHz) band by using the U shaped slot. The proposed antenna not only shows Ultra-Wideband characteristic(3.1 ~ 10.6 GHz) suitable for UWB communications but has partially notched-band characteristic to reject 5 GHz WLAN band(5.15 ~ 5.825 GHz). The antenna is designed on an FR-4 substrate of which the dielectric constant is 4.4, and its overall size is $30mm(W){\times}20mm(L){\times}1mm(t)$. Fabricated antenna satisfied $VSWR{\leq}2$ in 3.1 ~ 10.6 GHz except for the band rejection of 5.15 ~ 5.825 GHz. And measured results of gain and radiation patterns characteristics displayed determined for operating bands.
We consider the problem of low-sampling rate high-resolution channel estimation and timing for digital ultrawideband (UWB) receivers. We extend some of our recent results in sampling of certain classes of parametric non-bandlimited signals and develop a frequency domain method for channel estimation and synchronization in ultra-wideband systems, which uses sub-Nyquist uniform sampling and well-studied computational procedures. In particular, the proposed method can be used for identification of more realistic channel models, where different propagation paths undergo different frequency-selective fading. Moreover, we show that it is possible to obtain high-resolution estimates of all relevant channel parameters by sampling a received signal below the traditional Nyquist rate. Our approach leads to faster acquisition compared to current digital solutions, allows for slower A/D converters, and potentially reduces power consumption of digital UWB receivers significantly.
This paper presents an in-depth study of a UWB indoor radio channel between 1 and 9 GHz, which was used for the subsequent development of a new statistical UWB multipath channel model, focusing on short range indoor scenarios. The channel sounding process was carried out covering different indoor environments, such as laboratories, halls or corridors. A combination of new and traditional parameters has been used to accurately model the channel impulse response in order to perform a precise temporal estimation of the received pulse shape. This model is designed specifically for UWB digital systems, where the received pulse is correlated with an estimated replica of itself. The precision of the model has been verified through the comparison with measured data from equivalent scenarios and cases, and highly satisfactory results were obtained.
