연속지지 RC 깊은 보의 부정정 스트럿-타이 모델 및 하중분배율 (I) 모델 및 하중분배율의 제안 (Indeterminate Strut-Tie Model and Load Distribution Ratio of Continuous RC Deep Beams (I) Proposal of Model & Load Distribution Ratio)

  • 철근콘크리트 깊은 보의 거동은 전단경간비, 휨철근비, 하중점과 지지점의 조건, 그리고 사용재료의 성질 등의 여러 변수간의 복합적인 역학관계로 인해 매우 복잡하다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 깊은 보의 거동 특성을 모두 반영하여 연속지지 철근콘크리트 깊은 보의 설계를 수행할 수 있는 부정정 스트럿-타이 모델을 제안하였다. 또한 현 스트럿-타이 모델 설계기준을 부정정 스트럿-타이 모델을 이용한 연속지지 철근콘크리트 깊은 보의 설계에 합리적으로 적용하기 위해 외부하중에 대한 단부 지지점 반력의 비인 반력분배율과 수직 트러스 메커니즘에 의해 전달되는 외부하중의 크기 즉 부정정 스트럿-타이 모델의 하중분배율을 제안하였다. 하중분배율의 결정 시 연속지지 철근콘크리트 깊은 보의 전단에 대한 연성파괴거동을 확보하기 위하여 깊은 보의 전단저항 메커니즘을 구성하는 콘크리트 스트럿과 수직철근타이가 동시에 파괴된다는 전단평형철근비 개념을 도입하였으며, 다양한 수치해석 결과를 바탕으로 연속지지 깊은 보의 강도 및 거동에 영향을 미치는 전단경간비, 휨철근비, 그리고 콘크리트의 압축강도 등의 주요설계변수를 고려하였다. 이 논문의 후속편에서는 기존의 여러 설계방법들과 이 연구에서 제안한 방법을 이용하여 파괴실험이 수행된 다양한 종류의 연속지지 깊은 보의 강도를 평가하고, 이 연구에서 제안한 방법의 적합성을 검증하였다.

Three-dimensional finite element analysis of reinforced concrete slabs strengthened with epoxy-bonded steel plates

  • This paper presents a nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA) in order to investigate the flexural performance of one-way slabs strengthened by epoxy-bonded steel plates. Four point loading scheme is selectively chosen. A model is developed to implement the material constitutive relationships and non-linearity. Five Slabs were modeled in FEM software using ABAQUS. One slab was unstrengthened control slab and the others were strengthened with steel plates with varying the plate thickness and configuration. In order to verify the accuracy of the numerical model, a comparison was done between the experimental results available in the literature and the proposed equations by ACI 318-11 for the calculation of ultimate load capacities of strengthened slabs, the agreement has proven to be good and FEA attained accurate results compared with ACI code. A parametric study was also carried out to investigate the influence of thickness of steel plate, strength of epoxy layer and type of strengthening plate on the performance of plated slabs. Also, the practical and technical feasibility of splitting the steel plate in strengthening process has been taken into account. For practical use, the author recommended to use bonded steel plate as one unit rather than splitting it to parts, because this saves more effort and reduces the risk of execution errors as in the case of multiple bonded parts. Both techniques have nearly the same effect upon the performance of strengthened slabs.

Numerical study of concrete-encased CFST under preload followed by sustained service load

  • Developed from conventional concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) members, concrete-encased CFST has attracted growing attention in building and bridge practices. In actual construction, the inner CFST is erected prior to the casting of the outer reinforced concrete part to support the construction preload, after which the whole composite member is under sustained service load. The complex loading sequence leads to highly nonlinear material interaction and consequently complicated structural performance. This paper studies the full-range behaviour of concrete-encased CFST columns with initial preload on inner CFST followed by sustained service load over the whole composite section. Validated against the reported data obtained from specifically designed tests, a finite element analysis model is developed to investigate the detailed structural behaviour in terms of ultimate strength, load distribution, material interaction and strain development. Parametric analysis is then carried out to evaluate the impact of significant factors on the structural behaviour of the composite columns. Finally, a simplified design method for estimating the sectional capacity of concrete-encased CFST is proposed, with the combined influences of construction preload and sustained service load being taken into account. The feasibility of the developed method is validated against both the test data and the simulation results.

Experimental investigation for failure analysis of steel beams with web openings

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the behaviour of steel beams with different types of web openings. Steel beams with web openings became progressively more accepted as a well-organized structural form in steel construction since their existence. Their complicated design and profiling method provides better flexibility in beam proportioning for strength, depth, size and location of holes. The objective of this study is to carry out the experiments on steel beams with different types of web openings and performed non-linear finite element (FE) analysis of the beams that were considered in the experimental study in order to determine their ultimate load capacity and failure modes for comparison. Ten full scale models of steel beam with web openings have been tested in the experimental investigation. The finite element method has been used to predict their entire response to increasing values of external loading until they lose their load carrying capacity. FE model of each specimen that is utilized in the experimental studies is carried out. These models are used to simulate the experimental work to verify test results and to investigate the nonlinear behaviour of failure modes such as local buckling, lateral torsional buckling, web-post buckling, shear buckling and Vierendeel bending of beams.

  • 본 논문은 최종굽힘강도에 대한 선박중앙부 구조의 신뢰성해석과 이에 기초한 설계에 대한 내용을 다루고 있다. 길이 100m 이상의 살물선과 유조선을 선박모델로 선택하였다. 선박모델들의 중앙부 구조에 대한 신뢰성해석 결과로 부터 허용신뢰성지수를 유도하였고, 이를 기초로 중앙부 구조설계를 위한 설계공식을 제안하였다. 이들을 몇척의 선박의 재설계에 적용하여 좋은 결과를 얻었으며, 이로부터 본 논문에서 제안하는 신뢰성해석에 기초한 중앙부 구조설계공식의 유용성을 확인할 수 있다.

Investigation of jack-up leg extension for deep water operations

  • Since the first jack-up was built, jackups have become the most popular type of mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) for offshore exploration and development purposes in shallow water. The most pivotal component of the jack-up unit is the leg, which can directly affect the global performance of the unit. In this paper, an investigation into extending the length of the jack up leg is carried out in order to study the enhancement of the rig capability to drill in deeper water approaching the range of the Semisubmersible Drilling Unit (SSDU) (300-1000ft). A study of the performance of a deep-water jack-up unit is performed with different leg lengths. Typical leg scantling dimensions and identical external loads are assigned, and then a detailed Finite Element Analysis (FEA) model is created in order to simulate the jack-up leg unit's structural behavior. A Multi-point Constraint (MPC) element together with the spring element is used to deal with the boundary conditions. Finally, a comparative analysis for five leg lengths is carried out to illustrate their performance, including the ultimate static strength, and weight.

Effect of FRP composites on buckling capacity of anchored steel tanks

  • Enhancement in the seismic buckling capacity of steel tanks caused by the addition of fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) retrofit layers attached to the outer walls of the steel tank is investigated. Three-dimensional non-linear finite element modeling is utilized to perform such analysis considering non linear material properties and non-linear large deformation large strain analysis. FRP composites which possess high stiffness and high failure strength are used to reduce the steel hoop stress and consequently improve the tank capacity. A number of tanks with varying dimensions and shell thicknesses are examined using FRP composites added in symmetric layers attached to the outer surface of the steel shell. The FRP shows its effectiveness in carrying part of the hoop stresses along with the steel before steel yielding. Following steel yielding, the FRP restrains the outward bulging of the tank and continues to resist higher hoop stresses. The percentage improvement in the ultimate base moment capacity of the tank due to the addition of more FRP layers is shown to be as high as 60% for some tanks. The percentage of increase in the tank moment capacity is shown to be dependent on the ratio of the shell thickness to the tank radius (t/R). Finally a new methodology has been explained to calculate the location of Elephant foot buckling and consequently the best location of FRP application.

휨 모멘트를 받는 박스거더 구조 강도 실험에 대한 수치해석 방법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Numerical Analysis Methods for Predicting Strength Test Result of Box Girder under Bending Moment)

  • 선박 및 교량 구조물은 일종의 길이가 긴 박스형 구조로서 수직 굽힘 모멘트에 대한 저항력이 설계의 주요 인자이다. 특히 선박 거더는 반복적으로 불규칙적인 파랑하중에 장시간 노출되어 있기 때문에 구조부재의 연속 붕괴 거동을 정확하게 예측하는 것이 무엇보다도 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 순수 휨모멘트를 받는 박스거더의 하중 변화에 따른 좌굴을 포함한 소성 붕괴 거동을 수치해석적 방법을 이용하여 분석하였다. 분석대상은 Gordo 실험에서 사용한 세 가지 박스거더로 선정하였다. 구조강도 실험 결과와 비선형 유한요소해석에 의한 결과를 비교하여 차이가 발생하는 원인에 대해서 고찰하였다. 본 논문에서는 카본스틸 재료의 제작 시 필연적으로 사용하는 용접열에 의한 초기 처짐의 영향을 반영하기 위하여 전체와 국부적인 처짐 형상의 조합을 제안하였고, 이 결과는 실험 결과와 거동 및 최종강도 추정율이 7% 이내에서 잘 일치하고 있었다. 논문에서 검토한 절차 및 초기 처짐 구성에 대한 내용은 향후 유사 구조물의 최종강도를 분석하는데 좋은 지침으로 사용할 수 있다.

2,400 MPa 강연선용 포스트텐션 정착구의 하중전달성능 (The Load Transfer Performance of Post-tension Anchorage with 2,400 MPa Strands)

  • 인장강도가 2,400 MPa인 강연선이 개발되어 콘크리트구조기준 및 KS 규격에 반영되었다. 고강도 프리스트레스트 강연선이 구조물에 적용되기 위해서는 그에 적합한 정착시스템이 함께 사용되어야 한다. 최근에 2,400 MPa 강연선 적용을 위한 포스트텐션 정착구의 개발이 진행되어왔으나, 성능평가에 대한 연구가 미비한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 2,400 MPa 강연선을 적용한 포스트텐션 정착구 중 가장 활용도가 높은 9 가닥, 15 가닥, 19 가닥 정착구에 대하여 PTI의 Anchorage Design Zone에 의한 국소구역 구조검토를 실시하였고, ETAG013 및 KCI-PS101에 의한 하중전달성능평가를 수행하였다. 또한 비선형 수치해석을 통해 시험의 적절성을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 2,400 MPa 정착구는 국소구역의 구조성능을 만족하고, 하중전달성능 조건을 만족하는 것으로 나타났다.

An evolutionary approach for predicting the axial load-bearing capacity of concrete-encased steel (CES) columns

  • In this research, the gene expression programming (GEP) technique was employed to provide a new model for predicting the maximum loading capacity of concrete-encased steel (CES) columns. This model was developed based on 96 CES column specimens available in the literature. The six main parameters used in the model were the compressive strength of concrete (fc), yield stress of structural steel (fys), yield stress of steel rebar (fyr), and cross-sectional areas of concrete, structural steel, and steel rebar (Ac, As and Ar respectively). The performance of the prediction model for the ultimate load-carrying capacity was investigated using different statistical indicators such as root mean square error (RMSE), correlation coefficient (R), mean absolute error (MAE), and relative square error (RSE), the corresponding values of which for the proposed model were 620.28, 0.99, 411.8, and 0.01, respectively. Here, the predictions of the model and those of available codes including ACI ITG, AS 3600, CSA-A23, EN 1994, JGJ 138, and NZS 3101 were compared for further model assessment. The obtained results showed that the proposed model had the highest correlation with the experimental data and the lowest error. In addition, to see if the developed model matched engineering realities and corresponded to the previously developed models, a parametric study and sensitivity analysis were carried out. The sensitivity analysis results indicated that the concrete cross-sectional area (Ac) has the greatest effect on the model, while parameter (fyr) has a negligible effect.
