Goal-Posture-Determination of a Steerable Mobile Robot for Active Information Display

  • A projection-based active information display system was proposed. The proposed system is based on Intelligent Space and a steerable projector mounted mobile robot which is called Ubiquitous Display (UD). In order to transfer visual information for a human in the Intelligent Space, the UD projects a certain shape of an image with a fixed size. Due to redundancy of degree of freedom (DOF), there are lots of situations to project a same shape and size of the image on a surface. In this paper, we describe a method to determine a goal posture of the UD. Here, the goal posture is the most efficient position and orientation of the UD so as to project visual information and it is determined by the Intelligent Space. To verify the proposed method, simulation and demonstration are carried out.

Kinesin Superfamily KIF5 Proteins Bind to ${\beta}III$ Spectrin

  • The kinesin proteins (KIFs) make up a large superfamily of molecular motors that transport cargo such as vesicles, protein complexes, and organelles. KIF5 is a heterotetrameric motor that conveys vesicles and plays an important role in neuronal function. Here, we used the yeast two-hybrid system to identify the neuronal protein(s) that interacts with the tail region of KIF5 and found a specific interaction with ${\beta}III$ spectrin. The amino acid residues between 1394 and 1774 of ${\beta}III$ spectrin were required for the interaction with KIF5C. ${\beta}III$ spectrin also bound to the tail region of neuronal KIF5A and ubiquitous KIF5B but not to other kinesin family members in the yeast two-hybrid assay. In addition, these proteins showed specific interactions, confirmed by GST pull-down assay and co-immunoprecipitation. ${\beta}III$ spectrin interacted with GST-KIF5 fusion proteins, but not with GST alone. An antibody to ${\beta}III$ spectrin specifically co-immunoprecipitated KIF5s associated with ${\beta}III$ spectrin from mouse brain extracts. These results suggest that KTF5 motor proteins transport vesicles or organelles that are coated with ${\beta}III$ spectrin.

  • Miniaturization of equipments which have wireless network function and sensor have changed utilization method of computer in daily life, and have contributed to development for ubiquitous computing environment. In this paper, we design camera control system based wireless mobile and web-environmental through which nurse, doctor and family of patient can share and observe the information on condition of patient in hospital. Besides, this camera control system makes it possible to integrate diverse equipments of hospital into one system, and to conduct remote control function which can be applied to the patient control system. It is impossible to control shooting direction of camera apparatus in a remote area for observing patient in a hospital room through general web camera. So in this paper, we showed new design; we attached step motor which can rotate 360 degrees to web camera, and the step motor can operate through control board. Besides, we developed application for two environments, mobile and web-based environment, which enables us to offer proper efficiency in accordance with condition of observer through observation of control and collected image data.

Tracking Position Control of DC Servo Motor in LonWorks/IP Network

  • The Internet's low cost and ubiquity present an attractive option for real-time distributed control of processes on the factory floor. When integrated with the Internet, the LonWorks open control network can give ubiquitous accessibility with the distributed control nature of information on the factory floor. One of the most important points in real-time distributed control of processes is timely response. There are many processes on the factory floor that require timely response. However, the uncertain time delay inherent in the network makes it difficult to guarantee timely response in many cases. Especially, the transmission characteristics of the LonWorks/IP network show a highly stochastic nature. Therefore, the time delay problem has to be resolved to achieve high performance and quality of the real-time distributed control of the process in the LonWorks/IP Virtual Device Network (VDN). It should be properly predicted and compensated. In this paper, a new distributed control scheme that can compensate for the effects of the time delay in the network is proposed. It is based on the PID controller augmented with the Smith predictor and disturbance observer. Designing methods for output feedback filter and disturbance observer are also proposed. Tracking position control experiment of a geared DC Servo motor is performed using the proposed control method. The performance of the proposed controller is compared with that of the Internal Model Controller (IMC) with the Smith predictor. The result shows that the performance is improved and guaranteed by augmenting a PID controller with both the Smith predictor and disturbance observer under the stochastic time delay in the LonWorks/IP VDN.

  • The automatic control and motion control technology including the sensor network technology are important in the ubiquitous environment to make human life easy. In the industrial site and living environment, the demand for the motion control technology and position control technology which are faster and more precise is increasing. Especially, demand for the PC based motion control system is mounting in order to keep up with the improved GUI environment and ever-changing industrial site. This research is focused to develop the Highly Efficient 2-axis Step Motion Control System which can be variously applied in the industrial site on the basis of the LabVIEW - graphic code programming language - with user interface, using the NI PXI-7352 controller and the NI step motor in which it provides the high reliability and the precise motion control.

  • In this paper, we study and simulate the suggested position control system using GPS and USN to replace the existing control system of a crane. For the correct approach, the position control system of a crane is divided into the control system of the ground station and the mobile station The hardware is comprised of GPS receiving module to receive the position control data of a crane from GPS satellites, bluetooth communication module for the data communication between the ground station and the mobile station, supersonic sensor module for a precise position control of a crane, motor to replace a crane roller, embedded MCU(ATmega128L) and so on. In here, an embedded MCU controls GPS receiving module, bluetooth communication module and supersonic sensor module. The Software is comprised of three programs. Three programs are the program to filter GGA output part in a receiving data of GPS receiving module, the driving program for supersonic sensor module, the digital map program to monitor a crane location. From the simulation results, it is demonstrated that the proposed system has the capability of crane position control with 1cm precision.

  • Car exhaust $CO_2$ gas reduction and fuel efficiency of the car lighter for the current era is a big challenge. The developments of high-performance Nd magnets, Li-ion secondary battery and exhaust gas purification performance of PGM catalysts used in the lightweight EV and HEV are activated. Country in order to improve the car lighter and function that use the resources of rare metals are ubiquitous imported from China because of export supply control, as soaring prices have unstable supply and demand. Compared to the emissions from the next-generation automotive recycling, waste scarce resources need to be. This study investigated the recycling technology analysis and development of the information technology, or delivered to the researchers by giving national car industry aims to contribute to the development. Findings, pulmonary high-performance motor vehicle emissions in the exhaust gas purification PGM Catalysts, Li-ion battery and Nd magnets recycling technology, such as pre- and post-processing techniques to classify technology, pre-urban mining technology mechanical separation by screening techniques under development, the study and post-processing technology has, pyro and hydro metallurgical smelting technology is established. Waste Recycling in terms of economic efficiency of mechanical components for the intensive study of screening techniques is needed.

Lead Pollution and Lead Poisoning among Children in China

  • Lead is ubiquitous in the human environment as a result of industrialization. China's rapid industrialization and traffic growth have increased the potential for lead emissions. Lead poisoning in children is one of the most common public health problems today, and it is entirely preventable. Children are more vulnerable to lead pollution and lead in their bodies can affect their nervous, circulatory, and digestive systems. Children are exposed to lead from different sources (such as paint, gasoline, and solder) and through different pathways (such as air, food, water, dust, and soil). Although all children are exposed to some lead from food, air, dust, and soil, some children are exposed to high dose sources of lead. Significant sources of lead for China's children include industrial emissions (often close to housing and schools), leaded gasoline, and occupational exposure that occurs when parents wear lead-contaminated clothing home from work, burning of coal for home heat and cooking, contaminated food, and some traditional medicines. To assess the blood lead level in children in China, a large-scale study was conducted in 19 cities among 9 provinces during 1997 to 2000. There were 6502 children, aged 3-5 years, were recruited in the study The result indicates that the mean blood lead level was 8.83ug/dl 3-5 year old living in city area. The mean blood lead level of boys was higher than that of girls (9.1l ug/dl vs 8.73ug/dl). Almost 30 percent childrens blood lead level exceeded 10ug/dl. The average blood lead level was higher than that of in 1985 (8.83ug/dl vs 8.lug/dl). An epidemiological study was carried on the children living around the cottage industries recycling the lead from battery. Nine hundreds fifty nine children, aged 5-12 years, living in lead polluted villages where the lead smelters located near the residential area and 207 control children live in unpolluted area were recruited in the study. The lead levels in air, soil, drinking water and crops were measured. The blood lead and ZnPP level were tested for all subjects. The results show that the local environment was polluted. The lead levels both in the air and crops were much higher than that of in control area. In the polluted area, the average blood level was 49.6ug/dl (rang 19.5-89.3ug/dl). Whereas, in the unpolluted area, the average blood level was 12.4ug/dl (rang 4.6-24.8ug/dl). This study indicates that in some countryside area, some cottage industries induce seriously lead pollution and cause children health problem. For the introducing of unleaded gasoline in some large cities, such as Beijing and Shanghai, the blood lead level showed a declined trend since 1997. By 2000, the use of leaded gasoline in motor vehicles has been prohibited in China. The most recent data available show that levels of lead in blood among children in Shanghai decreased from 8.3ug/dl in 1997 to 7.6ug/dl in 1999. The prevalence rate of children lead poisoning (blood lead >10ug/dl) was also decreased from 37.8% to 24.8%. In children living in downtown area, the blood lead level reduced dramatically. To explore the relationship between gene polymorphisms and individual susceptibility of lead poisoning, a molecular epidemiological study was conducted among children living in lead polluted environment. The result showed that the subjects with ALAD2 allele has higher ZPP level, and the subjects with VDR B allele has larger head circumference than only with b allele. In the present study, we demonstrated that ALAD genotypes modify lead effects on heme metabolism and VDR gene variants influence the skull development in highly exposed children. The polymorphism of ALAD and VDR genes might be the molecular inherited factor modifying the susceptibility of lead poisoning. Recently, Chinese government pays more attention to lead pollution and lead poisoning in children problem. The leaded gasoline was prohibited used in motor vehicles since 2000. The government has decided to have a clampdown on the high-polluted lead smelters for recycling the lead from battery in countryside. JSAP1 Interacts with Kinesin Light Chain 1 through Conserved Binding Segments (JSAP1과 Kinesin Light Chain 1의 결합 및 결합부위 규명)

  • A conventional kinesin, KIF5/kinesin-I, is composed of two kinesin heavy chains (KHCs) and two kinesin light chains (KLCs) and binds directly to microtubules. KIF5 motor mediates the transport of various membranous organelles, but the mechanism how they recognize and bind to a specific cargo has not yet been completely elucidated. Here, we used the yeast two-hybrid system to identify the neuronal protein(s) that interacts with the tetratricopeptide repeats (TRP) of KLCI and found a specific interaction with JNK/stress-activated protein kinase-associated protein 1 (JSAP1/JIPP3). The yeast two-hybrid assay demonstrated that the TRP 1,2 domain-containing region of KLCI mediated binding to the leucine zipper domain of JSAP1. JSAP1 also bound to the TRP region of lac2 but not to neuronal KIF5A, KIF5C and ubiquitous KIF5B in the yeast two-hybrid assay. In addition, these proteins showed specific interactions in the GST pull-down assay and by co-immunoprecipitation. KLCI and KIF5B interacted with GST-ISAP1 fusion proteins, but not with GST alone. An antibody to JSAPI specifically co-immunoprecipitated KIF5s associated with JSAP1 from mouse brain extracts. These results suggest that JSAP1, as KLC1 receptor, is involved in the KIF5 mediated transport.
