  • The ubiquitous sensor network technique is widely applied to variety of information fields such as home automations, logistics, traffic controls, public administrations, health and environment monitoring and etc. It is particularly useful in the areas where energy consumption is minimal and where continuous monitoring of the surrounding environments, which generates streams of data, are required. In this study, we have designed and implemented a living environment automatic control system which collects the streams of temperature, humidity, light and noise data of a simulated house setting in real-time fashion, then controls the home environment based on the collected data according to the users favorites. In order to differentiate the proposed system from the currently existing similar system, we have demonstrated not only the feasibility of collecting data using sensor network in the controlled environment but also the ability to control the various household equipments through wireless communications.

  • Recently, various ubiquitous networking services are developed and implemented for easy living. In general, new ubiquitous networking services require the new infrastructure including equipments and devices. However, it is difficult to replace existing infrastructure and devices with new ones in the home or office because of cost and maintenance problems. In this paper, we developed small-size web based RF wireless communication systems for sensor network applications. The designed RF systems are implemented using commercial system on a chip (SoC) on existing infrastructure and devices. The developed systems are tested for light control and temperature sensing and they are applied to sensor network training courses for students and engineer as well as various practical applications.

  • This article introduces developing trends of an "Ubiquitous Interface" as an access method for use of various network resources, such as public wireless networks and un-licensed wireless networks in ubiquitous sensor network environments, without troublesome settings or operations by users. "Ubiquitous Interface" is include a relatively wide sense meaning not only physical interface of specified device or between processors, but anything method for access USN. These "Ubiquitous Interface" able to provide seamless services that adapt autonomously to the user's movements and changes in the state of wireless resources. Recently, strongly recommended candidates are RFID, NFC, Multi-mode mobile terminal, Wearable computer and OSGi for integrated digital home networking system as a future ubiquitous interface. These candidates are have to have flexibility and multiple physical communication channel for seamless service hand over and serve easy connection at huge USN to user. And, must have flexible software structure and multi-functional middleware. Consequently, for more enhance performance of an ubiquitous interface and developing, need more structured and integrated future plan.

  • The implementation of home network systems In ubiquitous computing environments requires middleware that provides a method to control and operate home appliance devices. The Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), which is based on the IPv4 protocol and running on a PC, consists of UPnP devices that provide relevant services and control points that control the devices. However, It is inappropriate to Implement UPnP devices on a PC, since the implementation on a PC requires much space and electrical power. In this paper, a small embedded home network device equipped with UPnP middleware is implemented on an embedded GNU/Linux system running on an ARM9 platform, in order to deal with such problems.

  • The aim of this paper is to design and implement a new ECG signal monitoring and analysis method for the home care of elderly persons or patients, using wireless sensor network (WSN) technology. The wireless technology for home-care purpose gives new possibilities for monitoring of vital parameter with wearable biomedical sensors and will give the patient freedom to be mobile and still be under continuously monitoring. Developed platform for portable real-time analysis of ECG signals can be used as an advanced diagnosis and alarming system. The ECG features are used to detect life-threatening arrhythmias, with an emphasis on the software for analyzing the P-wave, QRS complex, and T-wave in ECG signals at server after receiving data from base station. Based on abnormal ECG activity, the server transfer diagnostic results and alarm conditions to a doctor's PDA. Doctor can diagnose the patients who have survived from arrhythmia diseases.

  • This paper proposes the U-healtcare middleware that is based on mininumCORBA. Ubiquitous healthcare system is generated by combining the technologies of computer system and medical system. This makes available that the person can receive medical treatment anywhere, anytime at on-line. The Healthcare devices are connected to network system as wire or wireless internet. So, the computer system can gather the vital information from the person at the real time and transfers the information to the server system that processes the medical information. When a medical doctor makes a diagnosis they can get more information about the patient by using the information within the server. Users would like to receive more services in the ubiquitous healthcare system than the traditional medical system. And in U-healthcare system, every healthcare devices and the users have to be connected to network system and the information from them has to be integrated. U-Home Healthcare middleware I proposed in this paper will do everything that I mentioned above.

  • Development of technology in the $20^{th}$ century has made great contributions to women's lives. With the development of digital convergence, home network, and DMBs (Distance Method Bracings), the ubiquitous technology information era is expected to create a new progressive era for women. The purpose of this study is to investigate the lifestyle that Korean women would like to pursue, especially in regards to the sense of value within the personal and social life of each individual. As a method to suggest how the socio-cultural trends of women's lifestyle will change in the ubiquitous era, qualitative interviews have been conducted over 6 groups with 77 persons between the digital ages of 20s and 30s, living in Seoul. The majority had positive opinions regarding the economic, cultural, emotional, and physical prospects of the ubiquitous information environment. Results show high expectations evolved around freedom from household chores, the equality between the sexes (at home and in society), enhancing the working environment at home, an expansion of human relationships leading to creative knowledge, being able to maintain a single life without economic constraints, and the enjoyment that the internet provides. for suggestions to improve the quality of women's lifestyle through ubiquitous technology, issues such as individual based customization, time management, creating emotional hyperspaces, multi-media communication systems, and women as leaders were studied.

  • It is rapidly expanding to provide Home Digital Service based on the Home Network System in intelligent apartment. Fortunately, Korea has one of the highest rates of Internet penetration and access in the world. Construction companies used the Home Network system as a strategy of differentiation and it is available to the customers to raise their asset value. Besides, the government has a positive response to accept the new movements to make the digital environment with 'u-Korea (Ubiquitous Korea)' as the slogan. However, the level of providing Home Digital Service is actually at the beginning. The develop the home network industry more effectively, the related industries' cooperation is essential. The purpose of this study is to propose a providing model of Home Network System for the construction company and to make a method to response the fast change of technology development and customer's request at the point of construction companies' view.

  • The ubiquitous smart home is the home of the future, which exploits context information from both the human and the home environment, providing an automatic home service for the human. Human location and motion are the most important contexts in the ubiquitous smart home. In this paper, we present a real-time human tracker that predicts human location and motion for the ubiquitous smart home. The system uses four network cameras for real-time human tracking. This paper explains the architecture of the real-time human tracker, and proposes an algorithm for predicting human location and motion. To detect human location, three kinds of images are used: $IMAGE_1$ - empty room image, $IMAGE_2$ - image of furniture and home appliances, $IMAGE_3$ - image of $IMAGE_2$ and the human. The real-time human tracker decides which specific furniture or home appliance the human is associated with, via analysis of three images, and predicts human motion using a support vector machine (SVM). The performance experiment of the human's location, which uses three images, lasted an average of 0.037 seconds. The SVM feature of human motion recognition is decided from the pixel number by the array line of the moving object. We evaluated each motion 1,000 times. The average accuracy of all types of motion was 86.5%.
