Design of the Wideband Notched Compact UWB Antenna (넓은 대역폭이 소거된 소형 UWB 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a novel wideband notched compact UWB antenna is designed to satisfy the licensed UWB frequency bandwidth($3.1{\sim}4.8$ GHz, $7.1{\sim}10.2$ GHz) by symmetrically arranging two adjacent sectorial loop antennas. The wideband($4.8{\sim}7.1$ GHz) notch can be obtained by inserting the inverted-L shaped slits on the patch. The designed UWB antenna has return loss lower than -10dB at 3.1 GHz and over, group delay value lower than 1 ns and the linear phase property. The optimized UWB antenna inserted the inverted-L shaped slits has return loss great than -10dB, 5 ns of group delay, nonlinear phase and decreased gain properties over the frequency band, 4.8 GHz to 7.1 GHz.

A Design and Manufacture of Modified Rhombus Slot UWB antenna with Fork-shaped-Feedline (포크 모양의 급전 구조를 갖는 변형된 마름모 슬롯 UWB 안테나 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, we propose a modified rhombus slot UWB(Ultra Wide Band) antenna with fork-shaped feeding structure. The proposed antenna is modified rhombus slot structure and fork-shaped feeding structure to get ultra-wideband characteristics for UWB communication. Modified rhombus slot structure consists of slot shaped which eliminated upper and lower part of the basic rhombus slot. The antenna is designed on an FR-4 substrate of which the dielectric constant is 4.4, and its overall size is $34mm(W_1){\times}34mm(L_1){\times}1mm(t)$, and its slot antenna size is $30mm(W_2){\times}16.75mm(L_3+L_4)$. After carrying out the simulation of each parameters, optimized values are obtained. From the fabricated and measured results, return loss of the proposed antenna satisfied Return Loss -10dB in 3.1 ~ 10.6 GHz. And measured results of gain and radiation patterns characteristics displayed for operating bands.

  • In this paper, we propose a UWB(Ultra Wide Band) antenna with CPW(Coplanar Waveguide) structure notched the 802.11a(5.15 ~ 5.825 GHz) band by using the U shaped slot. The proposed antenna not only shows Ultra-Wideband characteristic(3.1 ~ 10.6 GHz) suitable for UWB communications but has partially notched-band characteristic to reject 5 GHz WLAN band(5.15 ~ 5.825 GHz). The antenna is designed on an FR-4 substrate of which the dielectric constant is 4.4, and its overall size is $30mm(W){\times}20mm(L){\times}1mm(t)$. Fabricated antenna satisfied $VSWR{\leq}2$ in 3.1 ~ 10.6 GHz except for the band rejection of 5.15 ~ 5.825 GHz. And measured results of gain and radiation patterns characteristics displayed determined for operating bands.

  • In this paper, we discussed the trapezoidal antenna model in the microstrip structure for UWB communications in the frequency band of $3.1{\times}10.6GHz$. Through the computer simulations for the difference size of trapezoidal monopole microstrip antenna model, the good impedance matching characteristic of return loss less than -10dB(VSWR<2) in all the band of UWB showed. The optimized antenna of this paper also showed the quasi-isotropic radiation characteristics in the horizontal plane and linear phase characteristic of nondispersive property.

  • 초고속통신, 고 정밀 위치정보 시스템 등을 구현하기 위해 광 대역 특성을 요구하는 UWB(Ultra Wideband) 시스템에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 DS-CDMA(Direct Sequence - Code Division Multiple Access)를 근간으로 하는 3 GHz $\sim$ 5GHz의 주파수 대역을 갖는 UWB 시스템에서 아날로그 QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) 변복조, 주파수 변환 및 전력 증폭 기능을 수행하는 RF 트랜시버 설계 방안을 제시하였고, 광 대역 특성을 만족하는 주요 구성 성분들의 설계 방법 및 성능 특성을 분석하였다. 상용 부품 및 제작된 부품 들을 이용하여 구현된 RF 트랜시버에 대한 성능평가를 통해 DS-CDMA 방식의 UWB 시스템을 위한 RF 트랜시버 설계 및 구현 접근 방법을 검증하였다.

The Signal Acquisition Algorithm for Ultra Wide-band Communication Systems (UWB 통신시스템에서 동기 획득 알고리즘)

  • Due to the extremely short pulse in the Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology, the accurate synchronization acquisition method is very important for both high data-rate WPAN and low data-rate WPAN. In this paper, we propose the synchronization acquisition algorithm based on two-step signal search method to acquire the synchronization in the UWB multi-path channel. At the first step, the search window is divided by two and the window that has higher power is chosen as a next search window. This operation is repeated until the measure power of the search window is smaller than the threshold value. At the second step, we employ Linear Search algorithm to the search window obtained at the first step for fine search. The proposed algorithm is proved that the synchronization acquisition is faster than the parallel search algorithm and it shows good performance in environment of the SNR extreme changes by the simulation.

  • UWB(ultra wide band) communication systems employ short pulses to transmit information which spreads the signal energy over a very wide frequency spectrum. Received signal-to-noise power ratio of UWB signals is an important factor in determining the accuracy of a positioning system. As the signal to noise power ratio gets higher, positioning errors decrease since noise becomes less effective. Calculation of signal to noise power ratio as a function of communication distance provides important guidelines for the system design. And the performance of a positioning system also depends heavily on the channel model. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the performance of the received signal to noise power ratio according to the communication distance was better in the LOS channel environment than in the Non LOS(line of sight) channel environment. And as the symbol interval of the preamble signal increases at a specific communication distance, the channel capacity of the UWB system increases.

  • In this paper, we propose a technique of a practical symbol acquisition and tracking using a low complex ADC and simple digital circuits for noncoherent asynchronous impulse-radio-based Ultra Wideband (IR-UWB) receiver based on energy detection. Compared to previous approaches of detecting an exact acquisition time that require much hardware resource, the proposed technique is to detect the target symbol by finding the symbol acquisition interval per symbol with a target symbo, thus the complexity of the complete signal processing and power consumption by ADC are reduced. To do this, we define the bit decision window (BDW) and analyze the relation between SNR, hardware resource, size of BDW and BER(Bit Error Rate). Using the results, the optimum BDW size for the minimum BER with limited hardware resource is selected. The proposed synchronization technique is verified with an aid of a simulator programmed by considering practical impulse channels.

Low Power Parallel Acquisition Scheme for UWB Systems (저전력 병렬탐색기법을 이용한 UWB시스템의 동기 획득)

  • In this paper, we propose a new parallel search algorithm to acquire synchronization for UWB(Ultra Wideband) systems that reduces computation of the correlation. The conventional synchronization acquisition algorithms check all the possible signal phases simultaneously using multiple correlators. However it reduces the acquisition time, it makes high power consumption owing to increasing of correlation. The proposed algorithm divides the preamble signal to input the correlator into an m-bit bunch. We check the result of the correlation at first stage of an m-bit bunch data and predict whether it has some synchronization acquisition information or not. Thus, it eliminates the unnecessary operation and save the number of correlation. We evaluate the proposed algorithm under the AWGN and the multi-Path channel model with MATLAB. The proposed parallel search scheme reduces number of the correlation 65% on the AWGN and 20% on the multi-path fading channel.

  • In the case of Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS), common telecommunication systems typically have Rayleigh distributed amplitude characteristics. However measurement result of Ultra Wideband (UWB) Multi-Band Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MB-OFDM) system which is proposed as one of candidate standard in IEEE 802. 15. 3a for Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) shows that it has independent log normal fading in each cluster as well as in each ray within the cluster. Based on this clustering phenomenon observed, MB-OFDM channel model derived from Saleh-Valenzuela model with a couple of slight modifications. In this paper, channel remodeling for RF frequency hopping in MB-OFDM system is achieved, and performances of MB-OFDM system for each channel mode and data rate are verified using modified channel model.
