Purpose: Transmittance at UV-visible spectra range was measured to confirm the effect of wet/dry state of commercially available SCL on human eyes. Method: Commercially available five SCLs fabricated by different materials were selected to measure optical properties according to humidity. Results: A relatively high transmittance above about 80% in the visible spectra range of the SCLs were observed. In the UV spectra range, the wet samples showed higher transmittance than those dried except an unusual case. Conclusions: All the samples having a high optical properties in the visible spectra range exhibit a high transmittance in the UV region. Further research will be needed to develop new materials having a sharp absorption edge in the UV spectra range.
The optical and electrical properties of $C_{22}$-Quinolinium(TCNQ) Langmuir-Blodgett films have been studied depending on the annealing temperatures. The optimal properties were investigated using UV/visible(300-800[nm]) absorption spectra and FTIR(Fourier-transformed- infrared) absorption measurements. The electrical properties were investigated in a frequency range of 10[Hz]-13[MHz]. The UV/visible absorption spectra at room temperature show that there are four characteristic peaks at 320, 380, 494 and 678[nm]. These absorption peaks decrease very rapidly above the annealing temperature of 180[.deg. C], which is due to a structural change of TCNQ. The FTIR absorption measurements strongly support the result of the UV/visible absorption spectra, because the absorption peak of TCNQ- at 2181[$cm^{-1}$ /] also decreases above 140[.deg. C]. The frequency-dependent dielectric constant shows that there is a dielectric dispersion near 1[MHz] which is due to an orientational polarization of the molecules inside the film. The overall frequency-dependent dielectric constant is higher near 80[.deg. C]. It may be due to a softness of the alkyl chains.s.
AC and ZnS modified $TiO_2$ composites (AC/ZnS/$TiO_2$) were prepared using a sol-gel method. The composite obtained was characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area measurements, X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis, and according to the UV-vis absorption spectra (UV-vis). XRD patterns of the composites showed that the AC/ZnS/$TiO_2$ composites contain a typical single and clear anatase phase. The surface properties as observed by SEM present the characterization of the texture of the AC/ZnS/$TiO_2$ composites, showing a homogenous composition in the particles showing the micro-surface structures and morphology of the composites. The EDX spectra of the elemental identification showed the presence of C and Ti with Zn and S peaks for the AC/ZnS/$TiO_2$ composite. UV-vis patterns of the composites showed that these composites had greater photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation. A rhodamine B (Rh.B) solution under visible light irradiation was used to determine the photocatalytic activity. The degradation of Rh.B was determined using UV/Vis spectrophotometry. An increase in the photocatalytic activity was observed. From the photocatalytic results, the excellent activity of the Y-fullerene/$TiO_2$ composites for the degradation of methylene blue under visible irradiation could be attributed to an increase in the photo-absorption effect caused by the ZnS and to the cooperative effect of the AC.

The absorption spectra of polyamic acid containing p-methoxyazobenzene in a mixture of N, N-dimethylacetamide(DMAC) and benzene(1:1 by volume) solution was induced photoisomerization by UV and visible light irradiation. This solution is influenced on temperature according to measure by UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. Ultra thin film of polyamic acid containing p-methoxyazobenzene was prepared on the hydrophilic quartz plate by Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) method. The precursor LB film was heated in a vacuum dry oven at $120^{\circ}C$ in order to convert it into the LB film of polyimide. The absorption spectra of LB films were also induced photoisomerization by UV and visible light irradiation.
I have developed a UV and visible spectroscopic database (UVSD) for atoms and molecules, which are found in interstellar medium, stars, galaxies, and in the atmospheres of the earth, planets, satellites, and comets. This UV and visible database, which is machine-readable, consists of three different sub-databases depending upon the characteristics of the sub-databases: (A) atomic and molecular line listings from laboratory observations or theoretical studies; (B) absorption spectra measured in laboratories; and (C) solar UV, visible, and infrared spectral atlases. The UVSD is in a very initial stage of development compared with other well organized and established infrared and microwave databases. In order to make a good quality and complete database, substantial efforts should be made for the acquisition of scattered important data from laboratories or institutions, and then the acquired heterogeneous data should be peer-reviewed and standardized.
The Purpose of this study was to investigate spectrophotometric characteristics of Korean knotweed extracts. The properties were evaluated by it′s extracting solvent, effect of metallic ion, variations of pH values and effect of light exposure. The results were as following; The highest absorbance was found in methanol extract of Korean knotweed, while the lowest absorbance was carbon tetrachloride extract. The UV-vis. spectra of Korean knotweed colors in several solvents showed hypsochromic shift of n-π/sup */ transition with the polarity of solvent. Absorbance and peak of UV-vis. spectra of Korean knotweed colors became lower and broader by addition of metallic ion. The light stability in irradiation with xenon ]amp of the color solution with Cu were higher than those of Al and Fe. The UV-vis. spectra of Korean knotweed extracts in various pH values showed bathochromic shift under alkaline condition, and their peaks disappeared after 5 hours exposure.

Three kinds of papers were prepared from different beating degree of pulps. Physical and optical properties were examined to elucidate the deterioration mechanism of paper according to beating degrees. Changes of double folds, elongation, water retention value, DP, K/S value and visible, UV region light absorption spectra of those papers treated by UV light were studied. Double folds and brightness were decreased more rapidly by UV treatment with increasing of beating degree. The light absorption rates of pulps in visible and UV region were also increased with change of beating level. The formation of new hydrogen bonds and higher light absorption rate of pulps according to beating induced to absorb and interact with much UV light. These phenomena maybe brought about to accelerate paper deteriortion by UV treatment both optical and physical properties.

The structural, electrical, and optical properties of layer-by-layer ZnO nanoparticles deposited using sol-gel spin coating technique were studied and now presented. Thicknesses of the thin films were varied by increasing the number of deposited layers. As part of our characterization process, XRD and FE-SEM were used to characterize the structural properties, current-voltage measurements for the electrical properties, and UV-Vis spectra and photoluminescence spectra for the optical properties of the ZnO thin films. ZnO thin films with thicknesses ranging from 14.2 nm to 62.7 nm were used in this work. Film with thickness of 42.7 nm gave the lowest resistivity among all, $1.39{\times}10^{-2}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. Photoluminescence spectra showed two peaks which were in the UV emission centered at 380 nm, and visible emission centered at 590 nm. Optical transmittance spectra of the samples indicated that all films were transparent (>88%) in the visible-NIR range. The optical band gap energy was estimated to be 3.21~3.26 eV, with band gap increased with the thin film thickness.

It is important to investigate the molecular arrangement and the orientational distribution in the study of LB films. Polarized UV/visible absorption spectra make it possible to reveal the molecular arrangement and the orientational distribution. It is clarified that the PAAS LB films have specific directions in the molecular arrangement and the orientational distribution, which art different in intensity corresponding to the surface pressure. Unpolarized UV/visible absorption spectra reveal that the surface pressure is proportional to the finn thickness and is related to the molecular orientation. Current-Voltage(I-V) measurements provide that the current decreases as the surface pressure increases and there are certain phenomena called switching phenomena. Switching effort indicates that the current flows in high conductivity during on-state and suddenly decreases into low conductivity during off-state.
