$TiO_2-catalyst$ suspensions work efficiently in Photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) for wastewater treatment. Nevertheless, once photocatalysis is completed, separation of the catalyst from solution becomes the main problem. The PCO of Cu(II)-EDTA was studied to determine the reusability of the titanium dioxide catalyst. Aqueous solutions of $10^{-4}M$ Cu(II)-EDTA were treated using illuminated $TiO_2$ particles at pH 6 in a circulating reactor. $TiO_2$ was reused in PCO system for treatment of Cu(II)-EDTA comparing two procedures: reuse of water and $TiO_2$ and reuse of the entire suspension after PCO of Cu(II)-EDTA. The results are as follows; (i) Photocatalytic efficiency worsens with successive runs when catalyst and water are reused without separation and filtration, whereas, when $TiO_2$ is separated from water, the reused $TiO_2$ is not deactivated. (ii) The $TiO_2$ mean recovery (%) with reused $TiO_2$ was 86.4%(1.73g/L). Although the mean initial degradation rate of Cu(II)-EDTA and Cu(II) was lower than that using fresh $TiO_2$, there was no significant change in the rate during the course of the three-trial experiment. It is suggested that Cu(II)-EDTA could be effectively treated using an recycling procedure of PCO and catalyst recovery. (iii) However, without $TiO_2$ separation, the loss of efficiency of the PCO in the use of water and $TiO_2$ due to Cu(II), DOC remained from previous degradation and Cu(II)-EDTA added to the same suspension was observed after 2 trials, and resulted in the inhibition of the Cu(II)-EDTA, Cu(II) and DOC destruction.
This study examined the disinfection in combined sewer overflows (CSOs) by pulsed ultraviolet (PUV). The reflectors (stainless steel. mirror, aluminium foil, aluminium (1050), aluminium (6061), aluminium (5052), and aluminium mirror) of PUV irradiation was performed in a 90 L stainless reactor at a constant temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ and an applied power of 4000 W. The reflection efficiency of reflectors were showed 1.00 (aluminium mirror) ~ 1.48 (aluminium foil) does. The case of a rough surface analysis using SEM showed high reflectance, was the case of a smooth surface and a low reflectivity. Pseudo first-order rate constant calculated results, has a higher reflectivity values were more than twice as high compared to the low reflectivity. Affected Total coliforms disinfection time, depending on the type of reflector is considered.

To synthesize ZnO colloidal solution by a sol-gel process, zinc acetate ($C_{4}H_{6}O_{4}Zn{\cdot}2H_{2}O{\cdot}0.2\;mol$) and lithium hydroxide ($LiOH{\cdot}H_{2}O{\cdot}0.14\;mol$) in the ethanol were added to the solution containing a dispersing agent, hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC). The nanosize and physical shape of the synthesized ZnO particles were determined by HPC acting as the dispersing agent. Nanosized ZnO particles were also obtained by a precipitation method based on zinc-2-ethylhexagonate. The precipitates were characterized by DLS, XRD, FE-SEM, and UV-vis. As the results, the ZnO colloids tend to self-assemble into a well-ordered hexagonal close-packed structure. The ZnO nanoparticles have an average diameter of nearly 40 nm with a narrow size distribution.

A Fe-containing mesoporous silica (Fe-MCM-41) in which part of Si in the framework was replaced by Fe(Si-O-Fe) has been successfully prepared using $Fe^{3+}$ salt by a direct synthesis route. Physical properties of the material were characterized by XRD, $N_2$ adsorption, SEM/TEM, UV-vis and FT-IR spectroscopies. Fe-MCM-41 exhibited high catalytic activity in phenol hydroxylation using $H_2O_2$ as oxidant, giving phenol conversion of ca. 60% at $50^{\circ}C$ [phenol : $H_2O_2$ = 1:1, water solvent]. Fe-MCM-41 was also applied to the growth of CNTs, utilizing a thermal-CVD reactor using acetylene gas, which demonstrated that multi-wall CNTs could be prepared efficiently using the Fe-MCM-41 catalyst.
In this study, combined effect of airflow rate, $TiO_2$ concentration, solution pH and $Ca^{+2}$ addition on HA (humic acid) fouling in submerged, photocatalytic hollow-fiber microfiltraiton was investigated systematically. Results showed that UV irradiation alone without $TiO_2$ nanoparticles could reduce HA fouling by 40% higher than the fouling obtained without UV irradiation. Compared to the HA fouling without UV irradiation and $TiO_2$ nanoparticles, the HA fouling reduction was about 25% higher only after the addition of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles. Both adsorptive and hydrophilic properties of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles for the HA can be involved in mitigating membrane fouling. It was also found that the aeration itself had lowest effect on fouling mitigation while the HA fouling was affected significantly by solution pH. Transient behavior of zeta potential at different solution pHs suggested that electrostatic interactions between HA and $TiO_2$ nanoparticles should improve photocatalytic efficiency on HA fouling. $TiO_2$ concentration was observed to be more important factor than airflow rate to reduce HA fouling, implying that surface reactivity on $TiO_2$ naoparticles should be important fouling mitigation mechanisms in submerged, photocatalyic microfiltraiton. This was further supported by investigating the effect of $Ca^{+2}$ addition on fouling mitigation. At higher pH (= 10), addition of $Ca^{+2}$ can play an important role in bridging between HA and $TiO_2$ nanoparticles and increasing surface reactivity on nanoparticles, thereby reducing membrane fouling.

The higher valence state of iron i.e., Fe(VI) was employed for the treatment of Cu(II)-EDTA in the aqueous/waste waters. The ferrate(VI) was prepared through wet oxidation of Fe(III) by sodium hypochlorite. The purity of prepared Fe(VI) was above 93%. The stability of Fe(VI) solution decreased as solution pH decreased through self decomposition. The reduction of Fe(VI) was obtained by using the UV-Visible measurements. The dissociation of Cu(II)-EDTA complex through oxidation of EDTA using Fe(VI) and subsequent treatment of organic matter and metal ions by Fe(III) reduced from Fe(VI) in bench-scale of continuous flow reactor were studied. The removal efficiencies of copper were 69% and 79% in pH control basin and reactor, respectively, at 120 minutes as retention time. In addition, Cu(II)-EDTA in the reactor was decomplexated more than 80% after 120 minutes as retention time. From this work, a continuous treatment process for the wastewater containing metal and EDTA by employing Fe(VI) as muluti-functional agent was developed.

Both UV Photolysis and Phtocatalytic Oxidation Processing are an emerging technology for the abatemant of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in atmospheric -pressure air streams. However, each process has some drawbacks of their own. The former is little known as an application for air pollution treatment, so it has been a rare choice in the field. Therefore we have to do more experiment and study for its application for treatment of VOCs. Although the latter has been used in the industrial fields, it still has a difficulty in decomposing high concentrations of VOCs. To solute these problems, we have been studying simultaneous application of those two technologies. We have studied the effects of background gas composition and gas temperature on the decomposition chemistry. It has shown that concentration of TCE and B.T.X., diameter of reactor, and wavelength of lamp have effects on decomposition efficiency. When using Photolysis Process only, the rates of fractional conversion of each material are found at TCE 79%, Benzene 65%, Toluene 68%, Xylene 76%. In case of Photocatalytic Oxidation Process only, the rates of fractional conversion decreased drastically above 30 ppm. When there two methods were combined, the rates of fractional conversion of each material are enhanced such as TCE 93%, Benzene 75%, Toluene 81%, Xylene 90%. Therefore, we conclude that the combination of Photolysis-Photocatalytic Oxidation process is more efficient than each individual process.

Indoor air pollutants can cause severe health problems, specifically in terms of toxicological impacts on human. Every day, a complex mixture of many air pollutants is emitted from various sources and subject to atmospheric processes that can create varied classes of pollutants such as carboxylic acids, aldehydes, ketones, peroxyacetyl nitrate, and hydrocarbons. To adhere to indoor air quality standards, a number of techniques such as photocatalytic oxidation of various volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have been employed. Among these techniques, titania ($TiO_2$) based photocatalytic reactions have proven to be the best benchmark standard approach in the field of environmental applications. Over the last 45 years, $TiO_2$-based photocatalytic reactions have been explored for the degradation of various pollutants. This review discusses the indoor air quality profile, types of indoor pollutants, available indoor air cleaning approaches, and performance of $TiO_2$-based catalysts. Finally, we have presented the perspectives on the progress of $TiO_2$ induced photocatalysis for the purification of indoor air.
The photocatalytic removal of Ag(I) in water by $TiO_2$ at a various conditions, which are initial Ag(I) concentration, circulation flow rate, $TiO_2$ dosage and methanol concentration, was studied. A continuous flow system with a circular type reactor of the TiO2 suspensions with UV light through an photoreactor column was applied. The major results of this study were as follows; 1. First order kinetics was observed from the result at different initial concentration of Ag(I). As the initial Ag(I) concentration was incereased, the reaction rate was decreased. 2. The removal efficiency of Ag(I) increased with increasing the circulation flow rate and $TiO_2$ dosage. However, over $4{\ell}/min$ of circulation flow rate and $1.5g/{\ell}$ of $TiO_2$ dosage, increasing of the efficiency reached a plateau. 3. The addition of methanol as hole scavenger enhanced the removal efficiency of Ag(I) but the removal efficiency reached a plateau over some level of methanol. 4. It was found that $TiO_2$ photocatalysis was effective method to remove of Ag(I) from aqueous solution.
The photocatalytic decomposition characteristics of single n-pentane, n-pentane mixed with methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), and n-pentane mixed with ethyl acetate (EA) by cylindrical UV reactor installed with $TiO_2$-coated perforated plane were studied. The effects of the residence time, the inlet gas concentration, and the oxygen concentration were investigated. The removal efficiency of n-pentane was increased with increasing the residence time and the oxygen concentration, but decreased with increasing the inlet concentration of n-pentane. The photocatalytic decomposition rates of single n-pentane, n-pentane mixed with MEK, and n-pentane mixed with EA fitted well on Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetics equation. The maximum elimination capacities of single n-pentane, n-pentane mixed with MEK, and n-pentane mixed with EA were obtained to be $465g/m^3{\cdot}day$, $217g/m^3{\cdot}day$, and $320g/m^3{\cdot}day$, respectively. The presence of coexisting MEK and EA vapor had a negative effect on the photocatalytic decomposition of n-pentane and the negative effect of MEK was higher than that of EA.
