  • We have developed a Differential Absortion LIDAR (DIAL) method for the measurement of lower tropospheric ozone concentration. We used two laser beams from quadrupled Nd:YAG (266 nm) for the resonance wavelength and dye lasers (299.5 nm) for non -resonance wavelength. Aerosol extinction coefficients in the lower troposphere was computed by both Klett and Slope methods. To correct the SIN (Signal -Induced Noise) effect caused by photo detector, we subtracted a new-fitted baseline on the background part of a LIDAR signal, after the subtraction of the DC level. This is because SIN can be treated as an exponentially decaying tail. Using theme results, ozone profiles were obtained approximately 2km at daytime and 3km at nighttime. We compared the results derided by the Slope method with those measured by UV spectrometer. The computed results are in mostly good agreement with experimental results. In the measurement of the vertical layer, we observed the variation of the ozone profiles around the top mixed layer.

  • A novel lectin has been purified from the fruiting bodies of the mushroom, Fomitella fraxinea, which belongs to bracket fungi by a combination of ion-exchange chromatography on DEAE-cellulose and gel filtration chromatography on Sephacryl S-200 HR. The lectin, designated as FFrL, was a homotetrametric protein with a molecular weight of 50 kDa as demonstrated by SDS-PAGE (sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis) and MALDI-TOF-MS(matrix assisted UV laser desorption/ionization time-of flight mass spectrometry). • A high reflectance mirror, which has very low absorption and scattering loss, was coated onto a crystalline substrate by ion beam sputtering and then annealed at $450^{\circ}C$. We carefully selected the mirror coating material, and designed the high reflectance mirror, in order to avoid UV degradation which comes from the He-Ne plasma. We measured the surface roughness of the Zerodur substrate using phase shift interferometry and atomic force microscopy, and compared it with the TIS scattering of the mirror. The cavity ring-down method was used to measure the absorption of the mirror, and the thin film structure was correlated to its results. We also compared the optical properties of coated mirrors before and after annealing.

  • ZnO films were Prepared by ultrasonic spray Pyrolysis on MgO substrates. The surface morphology and crystallinity were observed as a function of substrate temperature by SEM and XRD, respectively. PL properties of the ZnO films were studied by using Cd-He laser. UV light around 3.37 eV was pronounced in the PL spectra. The origin of the PL peak was discussed.

  • Drugs processed using nanobiotechnology may be more biocompatible, with sustainable and stabilised release or action. L-asparaginase produced from fungi has many advantages for treatment of lymphocytic leukemia with lesser side effect. In the present work, maghemite nanobiocomposites of fungal asparaginase were produced using glutaraldehyde-pretreated colloidal magnetic nanoparticles. Formation of nanobiocomposites was observed using laser light scattering and confirmed by UV-visible spectrophotometry with the absorption peak at 497 nm. The specific asparaginase activity was increased from 320 U/mg with crude asparaginase to 481.5 U/mg. FTIR analysis confirmed that primary amines are the functional groups involved in binding of asparaginase on magnetic nanoparticles. The average size of the produced nanobiocomposite was found in the range of 30 nm to 40 nm using histogram analysis. The magnetic nanobiocomposite of asparaginase synthesised using glutaraldehyde showed 90.75% cytotoxicity against human colon adenocarcinoma cell lines. Hence it can be used as an active anticancer drug with an augmented level of bioavailability.

  • Silent gas discharge method has been widely applied fur ozone production, ultraviolet light and UV laser generation. Since ozone and ultraviolet applications have tendency to spread widely in industry, the development of efficient and low - cost power supply for such systems is an important task at present. This paper introduces high-frequency inverter type mode power supply designed fur ozone generation tube and ultraviolet generation excimer lamp and considerations on the design of the inverter and pulse density modulation control strategy applied in it.

  • GaN is a ppromising materials fot applications in the blue/ultraviolet (UV) light emitting diodes (LEDs)[1] and laser diodes (LDs) [2] High quality ohmic contacts are very critical to these applications since the qualities of ohmic contact system pplay an impportant roles in the high efficient device opperations. For the n-GaN there have been many repports about ohmic contacts and the sppecific contact resistance were as low as from 10-8$\Omega$cm2 However for the ohmic contacts on pp-GaN much fewer study were repported and the sppecific contact resistivity was much lower than of n-GaN. In this ppapper we repport a new Ni/ppt/Au metallization scheme and discuss the mechanism of ohmic formation

  • Ion shower doping with a main ion source of $P_2H_x$ using a source gas mixture of $PH_3/H_2$ was conducted on excimer-laser- annealed (ELA) poly-Si. The crystallinity of the as-implanted samples was measured using a UV-transmittance. The measured value of as-implanted damage was found to correlate well with the one calculated through/obtained from TRIM-code simulation. The sheet resistance was found to decrease as the acceleration voltage increased from 1 kV to 15 kV at a doping time of 1 min. However, it increases as the acceleration voltage increases under severe doping conditions. Uncured damage after furnace annealing is responsible for the rise in sheet resistance.

  • Ultrafast deep-ultraviolet (DUV) pulse generation from the subwavelength aperture of a plasmonic waveguide was investigated. The plasmonic nanofocusing of near-infrared (NIR) pulses was exploited to enhance DUV photoemission of surface third harmonic generation (STHG) at the amorphous $SiO_2$ dielectric. The generated DUV pulses which are successfully made from a nano-aperture using 10 fs NIR pulses have a spectral bandwidth of 13 nm at a carrier wavelength of 266 nm. This method is applicable for tip-based ultrafast UV laser spectroscopy of nanostructures or biomolecules
