비접촉식 자외선 반응조에서 자외선 강도 분포의 광학적 특성 (Optical characteristics of the UV intensity distribution in a non-contact type UV photoreactor)

  • The concept of a non-contact type of UV disinfection system was introduced in this study. UV lamps and their quartz sleeves hang over the water surface and there is no interface between the sleeve and water. Obviously, there is no fouling. Based on optical laws and other UV distribution models, a detail mathematical model for a non-contact type UV disinfection system was developed in this study. Pathway length of UV light in a non-contact type photoreactor is longer than that in a submerged type photoreactor because the light is more refractive while passing through 3 interfaces of medium. But the pathway length passing through the water media is not significantly longer than that in a submerged type photoreactor so, the absorption of UV light by water is not significantly different from the other system. Due to the reflection effect, UV intensity is rapidly decreased as the horizontal distance from the light source is increased. The reflective attenuation in a non-contact type photoreactor is higher than that in a submerged type photoreactor. These mean that the short photoreactor is advantageous than the narrow-long photoreactor for the non-contact type photoreactor in an optical point of view.

GaN-based Ultraviolet Passive Pixel Sensor for UV Imager

  • An ultraviolet (UV) image sensor is an extremely important optoelectronic device used in scientific and medical applications because it can detect images that cannot be obtained using visible or infrared image sensors. Because photodetectors and transistors are based on different materials, conventional UV imaging devices, which have a hybrid-type structure, require additional complex processes such as a backside etching of a GaN epi-wafer and a wafer-to-wafer bonding for the fabrication of the image sensors. In this study, we developed a monolithic GaN UV passive pixel sensor (PPS) by integrating a GaN-based Schottky-barrier type transistor and a GaN UV photodetector on a wafer. Both individual devices show good electrical and photoresponse characteristics, and the fabricated UV PPS was successfully operated under UV irradiation conditions with a high on/off extinction ratio of as high as $10^3$. This integration technique of a single pixel sensor will be a breakthrough for the development of GaN-based optoelectronic integrated circuits.

해수의 염 농도와 탁도가 전기, UV 및 전기+UV 공정의 Artemia sp. 불활성화에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Salt Concentration and Turbidity on the Inactivation of Artemia sp. in Electrolysis UV, Electrolysis+UV Processes)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of salt concentration and turbidity on the inactivation of Artemia sp. by electrolysis, UV photolysis, electrolysis+UV process to treat ballast water in the presence of brackish water or muddy water caused by rainfall. The inactivation at different salt concentrations (30 g/L and 3 g/L) and turbidity levels (0, 156, 779 NTU) was compared. A decrease in salt concentration reduced RNO (OH radical generation index) degradation and TRO (Total Residual Oxidant) production, indicating that a longer electrolysis time is required to achieve a 100% inactivation rate in electrolysis process. In the UV process, the higher turbidity results in lower UV transmittance and lower inactivation efficiency of Artemia sp. Higher the turbidity resulted in lower ultraviolet transmittance in the UV process and lower inactivation efficiency of Artemia sp. A UV exposure time of over 30 seconds was required for 100% inactivation. Factors affecting inactivation efficiency of Artemia sp. in low salt concentration are in the order: electrolysis+UV > electrolysis > UV process. In the case of electrolysis+UV process, TRO is lower than the electrolysis process, but RNO is more decomposed, indicating that the OH radical has a greater effect on the inactivation effect. In low salt concentrations and high turbidity conditions, factors affecting Artemia sp. inactivation were in the order electrolysis > electrolysis+UV > UV process. When the salt concentration is low and the turbidity is high, the electrolysis process is affected by the salt concentration and the UV process is affected by turbidity. Therefore, the synergy due to the combination of the electrolysis process and the UV process was small, and the inactivation was lower than that of the single electrolysis process only affected by the salt concentration.

자외선 조사와 병행된 녹차추출물 식이공급이 무모생쥐의 표피보습 개선 및 유리아미노산 생성 관련 대사에 미치는 영향 (Dietary effect of green tea extract on hydration improvement and metabolism of free amino acid generation in epidermis of UV-irradiated hairless mice)

  • 본 연구에서는 자외선 조사를 병행하여 녹차 추출물의 식이공급을 10주간 공급한 무모생쥐 (UV+1%GTE군)의 표피 보습과 filaggrin 의 대사물질 및 관련 효소인 PAD3의 발현 및 함량 변화를 정상대조군 (UV-군) 및 자외선 조사군 (UV+군)과 비교 분석하였으며 결과는 다음과 같다. UV+군의 피부 보습은 UV-군보다 유의적으로 낮은 반면 UV+1%GTE군 의 피부 보습은 UV+군에 비해 유의적으로 높았고, UV-군에는 미치지 못하였다. UV+군의 profilaggrin 함량은 UV-군과 유의적인 차이가 없었으나, filaggrin의 함량은 UV-군에 비해 유의적으로 낮았다. UV+1%GTE군 에서 profilaggrin은 UV- 및 UV+에비해 현저히 높았고, filaggrin은 UV-군과 유사한 수준으로 높았다. UV+군의 PAD3 효소 발현은 UV-군에 비해 유의적으로 낮았다. UV+1%GTE군은 UV+군에 비해 유의적으로 높았으며, UV-군에 비해 높았다. 자연보습인자의 주요 아미노산인 serine 및 glycine, alanine의 함량은 UV-군과 UV+군간 유사하였으나 UV+1%GTE군에서는 UV- 및 UV+군에 비해 현저히 높았다. UV-군과 비교하여 UV+군의 피부 보습함량이 낮게 측정된 것에 비해 유리아미노산 함량에는 변화가 없어 자외선에 따른 피부 보습에 관여되는 또 다른 메커니즘인 표피 지질함량 분석과 함께 녹차추출물의 효과에 대한 연구가 추후 이루어질 필요성이 있다. 그러나, 결론적으로 자외선 조사와 병행된 녹차 추출물 식이 공급은 (pro)filaggrin의 함량 및 PAD3의 발현이 높게 나타남에 의한 표피 유리아미노산의 함량이 높아 궁극적으로 자외선 조사에 의해 야기된 피부건조를 완화시켰다.

UV 나노임프린트를 위한 UV 경화성 수지 개발 및 경화 특성 평가 (Development of UV curable polymer and curing characteristics estimation for UV nanoimprint)

  • The UV nanoimprint technology uses the UV light as the energy source. Because the imprint process is carried out in room temperature and low pressure, this technology has its own merits compared to the thermal nanoimprint. However, in UV nanoimprint technology, a resin which has low viscosity is essential for the improvement of accuracy. In this research, a resin (named as IMS01) which has relatively low viscosity was developed. And a measurement system was developed in order to measure the degree of cure of the resin. The measurement system which is composed of FT-IR, UV light source and optical guide can measure the degree of cure in real time. From the experimental results, it was found that the IMS01 is cured more rapidly than existing resin (PAK01).

시력교정용 안경렌즈의 융복합적 기술개발을 위한 UV차단 성능 평가 (Assessment of UV Blocking Performance for Development of Converged Technologies of Vision Correcting Spectacle Lenses)

  • 본 연구는 시력교정용 안경렌즈의 재질에 따른 자외선 차단 성능을 확인하고자 하였다. 안경렌즈 Acryl, CR-39, NK-55, MR-8 재질의 렌즈에 대하여 흠집 방지와 반사방지 코팅을 한 렌즈 Group A와 여기에 자외선 차단 코팅을 추가한 렌즈 Group B, 그리고 자외선 차단 전용렌즈 Group C에 대하여 자외선 투과율을 측정하였다. 그 결과, UV-A 파장에서 Group A는 CR-39 렌즈가 7.726 %, NK-55 렌즈, 0.043 %, MR-8과 Acryl 렌즈, 0.007 % 순 이었으며 Group B는 CR-39 렌즈가 0.038 %, NK-55 렌즈, 0.037 %, MR-8과 Acryl 렌즈, 0.007 % 순으로 나타나 CR-39 렌즈의 자외선 차단 성능이 크게 개선되었다. Group C는 굴절률이 1.60과 1.67에서 각각 0.005 %, 0.004 %로 나타나 자외선 차단 성능이 가장 우수하였다. 저 도수의 렌즈와 썬글라스의 경우, CR-39 렌즈를 가장 많이 사용하는 현실에서 자외선 차단을 위한 새로운 재질 또는 자외선 흡수제, 자외선 차단코팅 기술 등의 융 복합적 기술개발이 요구된다고 하겠다.

Isolation and Characterization of UV-inducible gene in Eukaryotic cells

  • The present study intends to characterize the DNA damage-inducible responses in eukaryotic cells. The fission yeast, S. pombe, which displays efficient DNA repair systems, was used in this study as a model system for higher eukaryotes. To study UV-inducible responses in S. pombe, five UV-inducible cDNA clones were isolated from S. pombe by using subtration hybridization method. To investigate the expression of isolated genes, the cellular levels of the transcripts of these genes were determined by Northern blot analysis after UV-irradiation. The transcripts of isolated gene (UV130) increased rapidly and reached maximum accumulation after UV-irradiation. Compared to the message levels of control, the levels of maximal increase were approximately 5 fold to UV-irradiation. In order to investigation whether the increase of UV130 transcripts was a specific results of UV-irradiation, UV130 transcript levels were examined after treating the cells to Methylmethane sulfonate (MMS). The transcripts of UV130 were not induced by treatment of 0.25% MMS. These results implied that the effects of damaging agents are complex and different regulatory pathways exist for the induction of these genes. To characterize the structure of UV130 gene, nucleotide sequences were analyzed. The nucleotide sequence of 1,340 nucleotide excluding poly(A) tail contains one open reading frame, which encodes a protein of 270 amino acids. The predicted amino acid sequences of UV130 do not exhibit any significant similarity to ther known sequences in the database.

자외선 흡수제를 첨가한 고분자 중합 및 안 의료용 소재로의 적용 (UV Absorbent-added Polymerization and its Application as Ophthalmological Material)

  • 본 연구는 자외선 흡수제로 사용되는 benzophenone계(group) 및 높은 굴절률과 화학적, 물리적으로 매우 안정한 물질로 알려진 $TiO_2$를 기존의 재료에 첨가하여 자외선 차단 기능을 가진 고분자 재료를 중합하였다. 중합 결과 생성된 고분자의 자외선 흡수 정도를 기존의 재료들과 비교하였으며, 제조된 콘택트렌즈의 함수율, 굴절률 및 광투과율등의 기본적인 물성을 측정하였다. 측정 결과, 자외선 흡수제를 첨가한 콘택트렌즈의 굴절률과 함수율은 각각 1.430~1.440, 35.0~45.0의 값들로 나타나 기존의 콘택트렌즈와 비슷한 결과를 나타내었다. 또한 각 파장대별 광투과율에서는 자외선 흡수제를 넣지 않은 콘택트렌즈에서는 UV-A, UV-B, 가시광선 투과율이 각각 89%, 88%, 89%로 나타나 자외선 투과율이 매우 높았으나, 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-benzophenone와 2,4-dihydroxy-benzophenone을 첨가한 콘택트렌즈의 경우, 각각 UV-A 0%, UV-B 6%의 투과율을 나타내어 자외선 차단 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 $TiO_2$를 첨가한 콘택트렌즈의 경우, 각각 UV-A 6%, UV-B 51%의 투과율을 나타내어 자외선 차단 효과가 다소 있는 것으로 나타났다. 가시광선 투과율은 모두 77~89%로 콘택트렌즈의 가시광선 투과율의 조건에 만족함을 알 수 있었다.

운전조건에 따른 O3/UV, TiO2/UV 및 O3/TiO2/UV 시스템의 BTEX 증기처리에 관한 비교 연구 (A Comparative Study on Degradation of BTEX Vapor by O3/UV, TiO2/UV, and O3/TiO2/UV System with Operating Conditions)

  • A multilayer tower-type photoreactor, in which $TiO_2$-coated glass-tubes were installed, was used to measure the vapor-phase BTEX removal efficiencies by ozone oxidation ($O_3$/UV), photocatalytic oxidation ($TiO_2$/UV) and the combination of ozone and photocatalytic oxidation ($O_3/TiO_2$/UV) process, respectively. The experiments were conducted under various relative humidities, temperatures, ozone concentrations, gas flow rates and BTEX concentrations. As a result, the BTEX removal efficiency and the oxidation rate by $O_3/TiO_2$/UV system were highest, compared to $O_3$/UV and $TiO_2$/UV system. The $O_3/TiO_2$/UV system accelerated the low oxidation rate of low-concentration organic compounds and removed organic compounds to a large extent in a fixed volume of reactor in a short time. Therefore, $O_3/TiO_2$/UV system as a superimposed oxidation technology was developed to efficiently and economically treat refractory VOCs. Also, this study demonstrated feasibility of a technology to scale up a photoreactor from lab-scale to pilot-scale, which uses (i) a separated light-source chamber and a light distribution system, (ii) catalyst fixing to glass-tube media, and (iii) unit connection in series and/or parallel. The experimental results from $O_3/TiO_2$/UV system showed that (i) the highest BTEX removal efficiencies were obtained under relative humidity ranging from 50 to 55% and temperature ranging from 40 to $50^{\circ}C$, and (ii) the removal efficiencies linearly increased with ozone dosage and decreased with gas flow rate. When applying Langmuir-Hinshelwood model to $TiO_2$/UV and $O_3/TiO_2$/UV system, reaction rate constant for $O_3/TiO_2$/UV system was larger than that for $TiO_2$/UV system, however, it was found that adsorption constant for $O_3/TiO_2$/UV system was smaller than that for $TiO_2$/UV system due to competitive adsorption between organics and ozone.

Accumulation of Chlorogenic Acid as a near UV-shielding Compound in Cauliflower Grown under Enhanced UV-B Radiation

  • Since solar radiation contains wavelength essential for photosynthesis accompanying with near-UV light, UV-B effects on biological parameters and acclimation mechanisms are influenced by photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). Therefore, to elucidate near-UV shielding mechanism in higher plants, we cultivated cauliflower under usual solar radiation and increased UV-B from fluorescent lamps, two- or three-fold excess over continuously estimated UV-B dose in PAR during daytime, using computer regulated systems. Increased UV-B radiation had little effect on growth expressed as fresh weigh and leaf area. Water soluble low molecular weight compounds showing absorption in near UV region were enhanced according to the irradiated UV-B dose. One of compounds in cauliflower leaves was identified as chlorogenic acid. This was found to have no near-UV photosenSitizerable activity and is known to have an ability to scavenge a wide species of active oxygen. Another pro-oxidant compound that generates superoxide anion radical under near-UV irradiation was not induced by increased UV-B during cultivation, and identified as lumazine, a degradation product from folic acid.
