This study noted that the actual mechanism of N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) photodecomposition in the presence of $H_2O_2$ is missing from the previous works. This study investigated a key unknown reactive species (URS) enhanced by the addition of $H_2O_2$ during the photolysis of NDMA with $H_2O_2$, not hydroxyl radicals. In order to provide experimental evidences in support of URS formation, we have mainly used p-nitrosodimethylaniline, methanol, and benzoic acid as well-known probes of ${\cdot}OH$ in this study. Both loss of PNDA and formation of hydroxybenzoic acids were dependent on NDMA concentrations during the photolysis in a constant concentration of $H_2O_2$. In particular, competition kinetics showed that the relative reactivity of an URS was at least identical with ${\cdot}OH$-like reactivity. In addition, the decay of NDMA was estimated to be about 65% by the direct UV light and about 35% by the reactive species or URS generated through the photolysis of NDMA and $H_2O_2$. Therefore, our data suggest that a highly oxidizing URS is formed in the photolysis of NDMA with $H_2O_2$, which could be peroxynitrite ($ONOO^-$) as a potent oxidant by itself as well as a source of ${\cdot}OH$.
Semiconducting $\alpha$-Fe$_2$O$_3$ film was prepared by the cathodic electrodeposition method on Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) substrate for photoelectrochemical cell application. After heat treatment at 50$0^{\circ}C$, the phase was changed from Fe to $\alpha$-Fe$_2$O$_3$. The phase, morphology, absorbance, and photocurrent density (A/$\textrm{cm}^2$) of the film depended on the preparation conditions: deposition time, applied voltage, and the duration of heat treatment. The $\alpha$-Fe$_2$O$_3$ film was characterized by X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and UV -Visible Spectrophotometer. The stability of the $\alpha$-Fe$_2$O$_3$ film in aqueous solution was tested at zero bias potential under the white-light source of 100 mW/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The apparent grain size of the films formed at -2.0 V was larger than that grown at -2.5 V. The $\alpha$-Fe$_2$O$_3$ film deposited at -2.0 V for 180 s and heat-treated at 50$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 h showed the predominant photocurrent of 834$\mu$A/$\textrm{cm}^2$.
UV-visible absorption measurement techniques using several horizone viewing directions in addition to the traditional zenith-sky pointing have been recently developed in ground-based remote sensing of atmospheric constituents. The spatial distribution of various trace gases close to the instrument can be derived by combing several viewing directions. Multi-axis differential optical absorption spectroscopy (MAX-DOAS) technique, one of the remote sensing techniques for air quality measurements, uses the scattered sunlight as a light source and measures it at various elevation angles (corresponding to the viewing directions) by sequential scanning with a stepper motor. A MAX-DOAS system developed by GIST/ADEMRC has been applied to measuring trace gases in urban air and plumes of the volcano and fossil fuel power plant in January, May, and October 2004, respectively. MAX-DOAS spectra were analyzed to identify and quantify $SO_2,\;NO_2,\;BrO,\;and\;O_4$ (based on Slant Column Densities, SCD) in the urban air, volcanic plume, and fossil fuel power plant utilizing theirs specific structured absorption features in the UV-visible region. Vertical scan through the multiple elevation angles was performed at different directions perpendicular to the plume dispersion to retrieve cross-sectional distribution of $SO_2\;or\;NO_2$ in the plumes of the volcano and fossil fuel power plant. Based on the estimated cross sections of the plumes the mixing ratios were estimated to 580 $SO_2$ ppbv in the volcanic Plume, and 337 $NO_2\;and\;227\;SO_2$ ppbv in the plume of the fossil fuel power plant, respectively.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), two-dimensional atomic layered materials with direct bandgap in the range of 1.1-2.1 eV, have attracted a lot of research interest due to their high response to light and capability to build new types of artificial heterostructures. However, the large-area synthesis of high-quality and uniform TMDC films with vertical-stacked heterostructure still remains challenge. In this study, we have developed a metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) system for TMDCs and conducted a systematic study on the growth of single-layer TMDCs and their heterostructures. In particular, using a bubbler-type organometallic compound sources, the concentration and flow rate of each source can be precisely controlled to obtain uniformly single-layered MoS2 and WS2 films over the centimeter scale. In addition, the MoS2/WS2 vertical heterostructure was achieved by growing WS2 film directly on the MoS2 film, as confirmed by electron microscopy, UV-visible spectrophotometer, Raman spectroscopy, and photoluminescence spectroscopy.

Many applications of nanoparticles have been developed since 1970s. Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect can be generated at the surface of nanoparticles by illumination. SPR is the resonant oscillation of conduction electrons at the surface material stimulated by incident light. The collisions between excited electrons and metal atoms can cause the production of thermal energy (photothermal effect). Here, we presented the development of thermo-cosmetics using photothermal effect of gold nanoparticles. Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) were chosen for it's low toxicity. We also and investigated the cell biocompatibility and heating effectiveness for photothermal effect of GNPs. Synthesized GNPs were verified by UV-vis spectrophotometer, where GNP has a characteristic absorbance spectrum. Concentration of GNP was measured by atomic absorption analyzer. The cytotoxicity was confirmed by MTT assay and double staining assay. Photothermal effect of GNP was demonstrated by the thermal increasing properties depending on GNP concentration, which was taken by an IR-thermal camera with a xenon lamp as the light source. If the thermal effect of GNP is applied for thermo-cosmetics, it can supply heat to skin by converting solar energy into thermal energy. Thus, cosmetics containing GNPs can provide benefits to people in the cold region or winter season for maintaining skin temperature, which lead to a positive effect on skin health.
Keratinase is widely used in certain industrial applications. The present study sought to improve the culture conditions of Bacillus subtilis SMMJ-2 to facilitate mass production of keratinase. Strain SMMJ-2 was irradiated by ultraviolet light and the resulting isolates were tested for keratinase activity. Isolates displaying elevated keratinase activity were selected and used to determine the optimum temperature (24, 30, 37, 45, $55^{\circ}C$) for bacterial keratinase production during a 4 day incubation period. The highest enzyme activity (55 units/mL/min), from a Bacillus subtilis SMMJ-2 mutant (mutant No. 2) was demonstrated following incubation at $30^{\circ}C$. The effects of carbon and nitrogen sources on keratinase production were confirmed by measuring the enzyme activity from the culture broth of the mutant strain cultured in various media containing different carbon source and nitrogen sources during a 4 day period. The optimal medium composition for producing keratinase consisted of 1% glucose, 0.7% $K_2HPO_4$, 0.2% $K_2HPO_4$, and 1.2% soybean meal. Optimal initial pH and temperature for producing keratinase were 7.0 and $30^{\circ}C$, respectively. Keratinases produced by B. subtilis SMMJ-2 and the mutant No. 2 were purified from the culture broth which used soybean meal as a nitrogen source. Membrane ultrafiltration, DEAE-sephacel ion exchange and Sephadex G-100 gel chromatography were used to purify the enzymes. The purified keratinases from both B. subtilis SMMJ-2 and the mutant No. 2 showed single bands and their molecular weights were estimated as 28 kDa and 42 kDa, respectively on SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.

Photocatalytic oxidation of Cu(II)-EDTA has been studied using solar/$TiO_2$ photocatalysis as an energy source. Photocatalysis efficiency on the treatment of Cu(II)-EDTA was investigated using different types of solar collectors as well as by variation of the angles of solar collector solar light intensities, flow rates, and areas of solar collector. effect of $H_2O_2$ and types of $TiO_2$ catalyst on the treatment of Cu(II)-EDTA was also investigated. Removal of Cu(II) and DOC was favorable with a hemispherical collector than with a flat collector Removal of Cu(II) and DOC increased with increasing angles of solar collector up to $38^{\circ}$. Slurry type $TiO_2$ showed four-times higher removal efficiency than immobilized type $TiO_2$. Removal of both Cu(II) and DOC at a clear sky of solar light intensity ranging from 0.372 to $2.265\;mW/cm^2$ was greater than removal at a cloudy day of solar light intensity ranging from 0.038 to $1.129\;mW/cm^2$. From the result of this research that the removal efficiency of Cu(II) and DOC increased as the solar light intensity increased, it can be inferred that quantum yield in the destruction of Cu(II)-EDTA may directly related with the solar light intensity. Removal of Cu(II) increased as increasing the area of solar collector and was similar at lower flow rates white removal of Cu(II) was interfered at higher flow rates. When immobilized $TiO_2$ was used, removal efficiency of Cu(II) increased in the presence of $H_2O_2$ while negligible effect was found in the use of $TiO_2$ slurry.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the physiological characteristics of two original yeasts, 5-Y-5 and 6-Y-6, which selected from 24 Takju yeasts and three mutants, 30-24,30-81 and 40-27. induced from two original yeasts by the irradiation of UV light. The results were summarized as follows. 1) Alcohol tolerances of three mutants were decreased in some degree as compared with those of original yeasts. 2) Tolerances of lactic and citric acids of acid producing mutant 30-81, was increased than those of original yeasts. 3) In the case of using ammonium sulfate as a nitrogen source, two original yeasts and three mutants required Ca-pantothenate as a essential growth factor and four strains of yeasts except the mutant, 30-81, required biotin as a stimulated growth factor, When asparagine was used as a nitrogen source, two original yeasts and three mutants showed the same as above result but the stimulated effect of biotin was far less. 4) Propagation powers of the mutants were weaken than those of original yeasts, particular that of acid producing mutant, 30-81, was the weakest in the three mutants. 5) The optimum temperature for fermentation of original yeasts were $30^{\circ}C\;to\;35^{\circ}C$ but three mutants were $25^{\circ}C\;to\;30^{\circ}C$. 6) The optimum pH for fermentation of original yeasts were pH 5 to 6, and there is no appreciable difference between original yeasts and three mutants. The fermentation power of mutant,30-81, was decreased more rapidly than those of other mutants according to approach neutral. Three mutants were more sensible to heat than original yeasts. 7) Two original yeasts and three mutants were inhibited more over 20 percent of sugar for fermentation and three mutants were more sensible to sugar concentration than original yeasts.

Chromophoric Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM) plays a dominant role in absorbing UV-VIS light and is also important in the biogeochemical carbon cycle due to the production of carbon dioxide from photo-oxidation at the sea surface in marine environments. Since absorption by CDOM was recently found to be responsible for increasing the energy absorbed in the mixed layer by 40 % over pure seawater, the importance of CDOM absorption in seawater for increasing sea surface temperature has come to be well recognized. We measured aCDOM and the absorption characteristics of CDOM during spring 2012 and 2014 in the southwestern East Sea. Distribution of CDOM in spring 2012 and 2014 was compared and S value was used to find the source of CDOM in the study area. As a result, the average $a_{CDOM}$ was $0.237m^{-1}$ ($0.009{\sim}0.988m^{-1}$) and the average S value was $16{\mu}m^{-1}$,which shows coastal properties. Also a positive correlation between Chl a and CDOM was observed ($r^2=0.34$), with an especially strong correlation near coastal stations. aCDOM in 2014 was about 40 % higher than aCDOM in 2012 during spring in the study area. This difference in aCDOM concentration resulted not only from annual variation but also from stratification and photobleaching in late spring 2012. This observation implies the possibility of flux of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere as a result of photo-oxidation in the East Sea.

The performance of $TiO_2$ photo-catalytic oxidation process is significantly dependent on the amount of hydroxyl radicals produced during the process, and it is an essential prerequisite to quantify its production. However, precise and accurate methods for quantification of hydroxyl radicals have not been developed so far. For this reason, this study was initiated to compare existing methods for analysis of hydroxyl radicals produced by $TiO_2$ photo-catalytic oxidation and to propose a new method to overcome the limitation of established methods. To simulate $TiO_2$ photo-catalytic oxidation process, Degussa P25 which has been widely used as a standard $TiO_2$ photo-catalyst was used with the dose of 0.05 g/L. The light source of process was UVC mercury low-pressure lamp (11 W, $2,975mW/cm^2$). The results indicate that both potassium iodide (KI)/UV-vis spectrometer and terephthalic acid (TPA)/fluorescence spectrometer methods could be applied to qualitatively measure hydroxyl radicals via detection of triiodide ion ($I_3{^-}$) and 2-hydroxyterephthalic acid which are produced by reactions of iodine ion ($I^-$) and TPA with hydroxyl radicals, respectively. However, it was possible to quantitatively measure hydroxyl radicals using TPA method coupled with high-performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC). The analytical results using TPA/HPLC method show that hydroxyl radical of 0.013 M was produced after 8 hours operation of photo-catalytic oxidation under specific experimental conditions of this study. The proposed method is expected to contribute to precise the evaluation of the performance of photo-catalytic oxidation process.
