Nutritional Evaluation of Lentil (Lens culinaris) Straw and Urea Treated Wheat Straw in Goats and Lactating Buffaloes

  • The nutritive value of lentil straw (Lens culinaris) relative to 4% urea treated wheat straw (w/w) was assessed in adult bucks and milking buffaloes on-station and on-farm, respectively. A digestion-cum-nitrogen balance experiment was conducted with three bucks (24.35 kg) fed ad libitum lentil straw (LS), urea treated wheat straw (UTS) and a 1:1 (w/w DM basis) mixture of LS and UTS (LS:UTS) in a 3$\times$3 Latin square design. Though daily dry matter intake (g kg $W^{0.75}$ or % LW) of bucks fed LS and UTS did not differ significantly, that of LS:UTS was significantly (p<0.05) low. Similarly, digestibility of nutrients (DM, OM and CP) and nitrogen balance (g/day) did not differ significantly for bucks given LS or UTS although a significant positive improvement was evident in these parameters for LS:UTS. The digestibility of fibre fractions (NDF and ADF) was significantly (p<0.05) lower in LS as compared to UTS or LS:UTS. Except for the significantly (p<0.05) lower intake of DCP (g kg$W^{0.75}$), the bucks fed LS had statistically similar nutrient intake as compared to UTS. Feeding of LS:UTS resulted in significantly higher nutrient (DCP, TDN) intake by bucks. The important blood-biochemical parameters (haemoglobin,packed cell volume, glucose, urea nitrogen, total protein) and activity of serum enzymes (alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase) did not differ significantly in goats irrespective of dietary treatment. In the onfarm study, eighteen multiparous milking buffaloes were randomly assigned into three equal groups to assess the relative effect of feeding untreated wheat straw (WS), UTS and LS:UTS ad libitum as basal feed with a supplement. The study continued for 3 months and revealed that daily dry matter intake and average milk production (liters/day) by buffaloes offered LS:UTS and UTS was statistically similar but it was significantly higher compare to WS. However, milk composition did not differ significantly among the dietary treatments. It may be concluded that the nutritive value of lentil straw appeared to be no different to UTS, however, a positive synergistic effect was evident by feeding a mixture of LS and UTS on performance of goats and lactating buffaloes.

Effect of Roughage Sources on Cellulolytic Bacteria and Rumen Ecology of Beef Cattle

  • The effect of different tropical feed sources on rumen ecology, cellulolytic bacteria, feed intake and digestibility of beef cattle was investigated. Four fistulated, castrated male crossbred cattle were randomly allocated to a $4{\times}4$ Latin square design. The treatments were: T1) urea-treated (5%) rice straw (UTS); T2) cassava hay (CH); T3) fresh cassava foliage (FCF); T4) UTS:FCF (1:1 dry matter basis). Animals were fed concentrates at 0.3% of body weight on a DM basis and their respective diets on an ad libitum basis. The experimental period was 21 days. The results revealed that the use of UTS, CH, FCF and UTS:FCF as roughage sources could provide effective fiber and maintain an optimal range of ruminal pH and $NH_3-N$. Total viable and cellulolytic bacterial populations were enhanced (p<0.05) with UTS as the roughage source. Animals fed FCF had a higher rumen propionate production (p<0.05) with a lower cellulolytic bacteria count. Moreover, three predominant cellulolytic bacteria species, namely Fibrobacter succinogenes, Ruminococcus albus and Ruminococcus flavefaciens, were found in all treatment groups. Roughage intake and total DM intake were highest with UTS (2.2 and 2.5% BW, respectively) as the roughage source (p<0.05). Nutrient intake in terms of organic matter intake (OMI) was similar in UTS, CH and UTS:FCF treatments (8.0, 6.8 and 8.7 kg/d, respectively), while crude protein intake (CPI) was enhanced in CH, FCF and UTS:FCF as compared to the UTS treatment (p<0.05). Digestion coefficients of DM and organic matter (OM) were similar among treatments, while the CP digestion coefficients were similar in CH, FCF and UTS:FCF treatments, but were higher (p<0.05) in CH than in UTS. CP and ADF digestible intakes (kg/d) were highest (p<0.05) on the CH and UTS treatments, respectively. It was also observed that feeding FCF as a full-feed resulted in ataxia as well as frequent urination; therefore, FCF should only be fed fresh as part of the feed or be fed wilted. Hence, combined use of FCF and UTS as well as CH and FCF were recommended.

Molecular Docking Study of Urotension-2 Receptor (UTS2R)

  • Urotensin-2 receptor (UTS2R) is the most potent vasoconstrictor and plays a major role in the pathophysiology of various cardiovascular diseases and becomes a potential target for human pharmacotherapy. Hence, we have performed molecular docking of six antagonists with different inhibitory activity against UTS2R into its binding site. The binding mode of these antagonists was obtained using Surflex dock program interfaced in Sybyl-X2.0. The residues such as GLN278, THR304, TYR305, THR300, LEU299, CYS302, ASP47, TYR100 and THR304 are found in interaction between UTS2R and its antagonists. This study could be useful for identifying and analyzing the important residues involved in binding site of UTS2R receptor.

Homology Modelling of Urotension-2 Receptor (UTS2R): Potential Target for Human Pharmacotherapy

  • Urotensin-2 receptor (UTS2R) is the most potent vasoconstrictor and plays a major role in the pathophysiology of various cardiovascular diseases and becomes a potential target for human pharmacotherapy. The crystal structure of Urotension-2 receptor has not yet been resolved. Hence, in the current study homology modelling of UTS2R was done utilizing the crystal structure of human delta opioid receptor as the template. Since the template has low sequence identity, we have incorporated both comparative modelling and threading approach to generate the three dimensional structure. 10 models were generated and validated. The reported models can be used to characterize the critical amino acid residues in the binding site of UTS2R.

  • 본 논문에서는 초음파 웨이브렛 지연시간을 이용한 초고온 온도 측정법을 기초로 하여, 이 기술을 바탕으로 두 번째 단계인 용융물 온도에서 내구성을 갖는 초음파 센서(UTS : Ultrasonic Temperature Sense)를 설계하여 약 $2300^{\circ}C$까지 실험로 내부의 온도를 측정하고자 한다. 이때 UTS 설계의 중요 인수는 센서 봉 외부 표면과 시스(sheath) 내부 표면의 두 텅스텐 재료가 비접촉 상태로 요구된다. 만약 이들 두 재료가 고온의 상태에서 접촉되면 음향적 분로인 Shunting 현상이 발생한다. 이 현상을 물리적으로 억제하기 위한 센서 설계가 필요하게 되며, 이 센서 설계의 성공 여부의 첫째 요구 조건으로서 센서 내부의 구조적으로 음향 Shunting 현상을 억제하는 기술이 필요로 하게 된다. 이들 센서의 내부 구조에 상호 접촉을 피하기 위해서 작은 공간에 새롭게 구조적 분리가 가능한 텅스텐 재료인 Standoff를 제작하여 설치하였다. 그러나 본 실험에서는 제안된 Standoff적용한 출력 신호의 신호 대 잡음 비는 소량의 개선 가능성을 확인하였으나, 다양한 Standoff의 설계와 제작이 지속적으로 진행되어야 할 것이다.

This second part reviews the mathematical techiques used in the stromwater quality modelling and has been undertaken by examining a number of models that are in current use.   • A review of stormwater quantity and quality in the urban environment is presented. The review is presented in three parts. The first part reviews the mathematical methods for stormwater quantity and has been undertaken by examining a number of stormwater models that are in current use. The important feature of models, their applications, and management has been discussed. Different types of stormwater management models are presented in the literatures. Generally, all the models are simplified as conceptual or empirical depending on whether the model is based on physical laws or not. In both cases if any of the variables in the model are regarded as random variables having a probability distribution, then the model is stochastic model. Otherwise the model is deterministic (based on process descriptions). The analytical techniques are presented in this paper.

Effect of Heat Treatment on Microstructure and Tensile Properties of AZ91-CaO Alloy (AZ91-CaO 합금의 미세조직과 인장 특성에 미치는 열처리의 영향)

  • This study aims to investigate and compare the microstructures and room temperature tensile properties for AZ91 and ECO-AZ91 (AZ91+0.3%CaO) alloys in as-cast, T4 and T6 states, respectively. In as-cast state, the ECO-AZ91 alloy has finer microstructure than the AZ91 alloy. The AZ91 alloy exhibits greater ductility, while YS and UTS are inferior to those of the ECO-AZ91 alloy. After T4 treatment, most of ${\beta}$ compounds disappear in the AZ91 alloy, whereas ${\beta}$ phase is still observed in the ECO-AZ91 alloy due to its enhanced thermal stability, resulting in lower values of ductility and UTS. In T6 state, YS and UTS are better in the ECO-AZ91 alloy.

  • 이동 컴퓨팅 환경에서 자주 접근하는 데이터에 대한 캐싱은 무선 채널의 좁은 대역폭에서 경쟁을 줄일 수 있는 유용한 기술이다. 그러나, 트랜잭션 캐시 일관성을 지원하는 전통적인 클라이언트/서버 전략은 클라이언트와 서버간에 많은 양의 통신을 필요로 하기 때문에 이동 클라이언트/서버 컴퓨팅 환경에서는 적절하지 않다. 본 논문에서는 브로드캐스트-기반 캐시 무효화 정책을 사용하면서 트랜잭션 캐시 일관성을 지원하는 OCC-UTS (Optimistic Concurrency Control with Update TimeStamp) 프로토콜을 제안한다. 접근한 데이터에 대한 일관성 검사 및 완료 프로토콜은 캐시 무효화 과정의 내부 과정으로 완전 분산 형태로 효율적으로 구현되며, 일관성 체크의 대부분이 이동 클라이언트에서 수행된다. 또한, 분석 모델에 기반한 성능 비교를 통해, 본 논문에서 제안하는 OCC-UTS 프로토콜이 다른 경쟁 프로토콜보다 높은 트랜잭션 처리율을 얻으며, 데이터 항목을 자주 접근하면 할수록 지역 캐시를 사용하는 OCC-UTS 프로토콜이 더 효율적임을 보인다. 이동 클라이언트의 접속 단절에 대해서는 무효화 브로드캐스트 윈도우를 크게 하여 접속 단절에 적절히 대처할 수 있다.Abstract In a mobile computing environment, caching of frequently accessed data has been shown to be a useful technique for reducing contention on the narrow bandwidth of the wireless channels. However, the traditional client/server strategies for supporting transactional cache consistency that require extensive communications between a client and a server are not appropriate in a mobile client/server computing environment. In this paper, we propose a new protocol, called OCC-UTS (Optimisitic Concurrency Control with Update TimeStamp), to support transactional cache consistency in a mobile client/server computing environment by utilizing the broadcast-based solutions for the problem of invalidating caches. The consistency check on accessed data and the commitment protocol are implemented in a truly distributed fashion as an integral part of cache invalidation process, with most burden of consistency check being downloaded to mobile clients. Also, our experiments based on an analytical model substantiate the basic idea and study the performance characteristics. Experimental results show that OCC-UTS protocol without local cache outperforms other competitor protocol, and the more frequent a mobile client accesses data items the more efficient OCC-UTS protocol with local cache is. With respect to disconnection, the tolerance to disconnection is improved if the invalidation broadcast window size is extended.
