  • In this study, suitable types and measures of Wildlife Crossing Structures (WCS) for mammals of Korea were analyzed to suggest basic information for design guidelines of WCS. In order to find the types and measures, we conducted field surveys on 79 WCS and literature reviews on 159 WCS. The results of our study were as follows; Small-medium sized carnivores usually use all measures of wildlife underpass, meanwhile large sized herbivores as water deer need lager measures than 0.7 Openness Index(OI). Furthermore, we found that wildlife overpasses were usually used at the measure of 6.8 m width by every mammal. Therefore, we concluded that the proper measures should be lager than 0.7 OI for underpass and 7 m width for overpass.

  • This paper describes the methods to propose the optimal material properties and construction steps that prevent cracks due to the thermal stresses induced by the hydration heat under the construction of the concrete underpass structures. To achieve the goal of this study, the heat transfer theories were employed and the three-dimensional finite element model of the underpass structure was developed and used for the structural analyses. If the volume of the concrete member that is placed at one time is significantly large, the member is assumed to be the mass concrete and is easy to induce cracks. In order to minimize the cracks during the construction, two different methods can be utilized: one is to arrange the construction steps optimally and the other is to change the materials to reduce the probability of the crack occurrence. In this study, the analyses were performed by considering the changes in material properties with time, the characteristics of the hydration heat generation for cements and admixtures, the volume of the concrete placement at one time, and the environmental conditions.

  • In this paper, the effect of underpass structure on quality factor and breakdown voltage of octagonal inductors which were fabricated with 90 nm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology for radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) was studied. It was found that quality factor and breakdown voltage of inductors with more than one metal layer for underpass showed improved properties compared to those with one metal layer. However, little change of quality factor and breakdown voltage was observed between the inductors with two and more than two metal layers for underpass. Therefore, underpasses with two metal layers are promising for RFIC designs of the octagonal inductors in 90 nm CMOS technology.

  • Ground water is one of important parameters in the designs of underpass structures because urban areas are characterized by soil ground which is relatively permeable than rock ground and a high level of ground water due to low elevation. Therefore, it is important properly to predict variations of the ground water when they can affect underpass structures. In this study, a series of numerical analyses are performed to predict the variations of ground water levels considering the degree of surface imperviousness and LID(Low Impact Development) application. In turn the stability of underground structure is assessed using predicted ground water level. The results show that an increase in the impervious surface area decreases the ground water level. The application of permeable pavement as a LID facility increases the ground water level, improving the infiltration capacity of rainfall into the ground. Seasonal variations of the ground water level are also verified in numerical simulation. The results of this study suggest that reasonable designs of underpass structures can be obtained with the suitable prediction and application of the ground water level considering the surface characteristics.

  • In this study, we propose that the structures of spiral inductors have the environment advantage utilizing direct-write and LAM(Laser Ablation of Microparticles) processes without process step of lithography and etching etc. of existing semiconductor process. The structures of inductors have Si thickness of 540${\mu}m$, $SiO_2$ thickness of 3${\mu}m$. The width of Cu coils and the space between segments have 30${\mu}m$, respectively, using for direct-write and LAM processes. The performance of spiral planar inductors was simulated to frequency characteristics for inductance, quality-factor, SRF(Self- Resonance Frequency) using HFSS. The inductors without underpass and via have inductance of 1.11nH over the frequency range of 300 to 800 MHz, quality-factor of maximum 38 at 5 GHz, SRF of 18 GHz. Otherwise, inductors with underpass and via have inductance of 1.12nH over the frequency range of 300 to 800 MHz, quality-factor of maximum 35 at 5 GHz, SRF of 16 GHz.

  • As a part of several Eurasian initiatives, the Korean government is trying to reconnect railways through North Korea to the Asian continent. If South Korea could build a network using railway, it would be a chance to develop a robust economic environment and to motivate economic growth. In the railway reconnection project between North and South Korea, the most important part of the railway roadbed sector is repair or improvement, and then construction of a new line through North Korea. There are not many big differences in the geological conditions; however, climate condition varies greatly during winter. The most significant condition in the safety of railway operation is frost-heaving. However, since South Korea has a relatively mild climate condition compared with North Korea, design and construction specifications under severe weather conditions in winter have not been prepared. This study proposes a plan for revising the railway design standard for underpass structures through an analysis of international standards, leading to site construction to prevent frost-heave.
