  • A novel folded dipole type microstrip patch antenna designed for ultrahigh frequency (UHF) band radio frequency identification (RFID) tag is presented in this paper, which can be used on the metallic objects. The presented antenna is fabricated on a very thin Rogers 5880 substrate with a thickness of 0.508 mm. The structure consists of two folded dipole and two symmetrical shorting pins placed at both sides of feed point. An adjustable frequency response can be easy obtained via modify the location and radius of the shorting pins. The antenna has been analyzed by full wave simulations soft. The simulated bandwidth is about 67.2 MHz, which covers the Europe and North America UHF RFID frequency range. A manufactured prototype has been fabricated and measured to demonstrate the antenna performances. The simulation results agree with the measurement data well. The measured maximum reading range of the prototype can be reached 4.1 m in free space, and 3.2 m on a metal plate whose size is $150{\times}150{\times}8mm^3$.

  • In this paper, we examined the operating principle of a passive tag antenna for RFID system in UHF band. Based on the study, we proposed a novel RFID tag antenna which adopts the inductively coupled feeding structure to match antenna impedance to a capacitively loaded commercial tag chip. The proposed tag antenna consists of microstrip lines on a thin PET substrate for low-cost fabrication. The detail structure of the tag antenna were optimized using a full electromagnetic wave simulator of IE3D in conjunction with a Pareto genetic algorithm and the size of the tag antenna can be reduced up to kr=0.27($2 cm^2$). We built some sample antennas and measured the antenna characteristics such as a return loss, an efficiency, and radiation patterns. The readable range of the tag antenna with a commercial RFID system showed about 1 to 3 m.

  • In this paper, we design a UHF band RFID tag antenna which is conjugate matched to an impedance of a chip and also mountable on conductive materials. The proposed tag antenna is very compact($50{\times}30{\times}4mm$) with a modified PIFA shape. The proposed tag antenna has an advantage of easy matching to various chip input impedances. The performance of the antenna is evaluated by monitoring RCS in the reader direction. The RCS of the designed tag is $-10.2\;dBm^2$ when the chip is shorted and is $-21\;dBm^2$ when the chip impedance is a complex conjugate of the antenna impedance.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid reader antenna using a triangular and rectangular sub-patch for near- and far-field RFID reader in UHF band. The antenna operates at 912 MHz, and the low-cost mass-production is available, since the antenna can be built by printing on a FR-4 substrate. The triangular patch is designed to produce a circularly polarized radiation along the bore-sight direction and the rectangular sub-patch is designed to generate a strong magnetic field over the antenna aperture. The measurement shows Hz field greater than -25 dBA/m(3 cm above the antenna aperture), and exhibits circularly polarized radiation(AR<3 dB) with a radiation gain of 6 dBi.

  • The current blood control system is using barcode and scanning one by one to manage blood bags. To have better management and accuracy, an RFID BIS (blood information system) is implemented with an UHF RFID tag antenna using a reflecter for a blood bag has been used.. The UHF RFID tag for blood bag, attached on the high permittivity blood, is designed and fabricated. The tag antenna is optimized and fabricated with the simulation tests such as the existence and nonexistence of the reflector, various distance between the reflector and the dipole tag, the different widths of the reflector and the existence and nonexistence of the T-matching structure. The characteristics and the reading range patterns of the tag antennas are measured. The BIS is implemented with the new tag design.

  • This paper studies on the read rate of UHF-band RFID tag. An RFID tag antenna attached on the high permittivity surface will be detuned that results in deteriorating the read rate. In this study, we investigate that the electrical performance for the tag antenna is detuned due to the ceramic material and the read rate is radically improved after tuning the antenna.

  • A long range UHF RFID tag with a rectangular metallic cavity structure is proposed for various applications with metallic objects. The proposed tag consists of a rectangular metallic cavity structure and a folded dipole antenna which is located on top of the cavity. The tag is designed for Korean UHF RFID band(910~914 MHz) and the bandwidth, which satisfies the -10 dB input reflection coefficient requirement, is approximately 1.3 %(904~916 MHz). Measurement demonstrates that the proposed tag shows long reading range up to 15 m when it is placed on a metallic plate.

  • In this paper, a small RFID tag antenna in UHF band which has bandwidth-enhanced characteristic is proposed. The shape of the proposed antenna is a meander antenna to have size-reduced characteristic, and it consists of two radiators which make dual resonance in adjacent frequency to enhance bandwidth. By adjusting length and location of each radiator, the proposed antenna can make dual resonance at arbitrary location on the Smith chart, which is able to make impedance matching with RFID tag chip in wide frequency range. And it is apparent that the proposed antenna can have bandwidth-enhanced characteristic according to the simulated and measured results.

  • In this paper, a dual band antenna with the operating frequency in HF and UHF band was proposed. The antenna structure consists of three spiral turns coil in the bottom side to generate the HF frequency of 13.56 MHz. In the top of the antenna, an inverted-spiral dipole structure is used to create the UHF frequency of 922 MHz. The dual band antenna was optimized to reduce size with $80mm{\times}40mm{\times}0.8mm$ dimension. The antenna presents the omnidirectional characteristic with high gain. To validate the theoretical design, the antenna was simulated using FR-4 substrate and verified the simulation results.
