Half of the world's total population lives in cities, continuous urbanization is progressing, and the urban population is expected to exceed two-thirds of the total population by 2050. To resolve this phenomenon, the Korean government is focusing on building a new urban air mobility (UAM) industrial ecosystem. Airlines are also part of the UAM industry ecosystem and are preparing to improve efficiency in safe operations, passenger safety, aircraft operation efficiency, and punctuality. This study performs demand forecasting using time series data on the number of daily passengers on Korean Air's Gimpo to Jeju route from 2019 to 2023. For this purpose, statistical and machine learning models such as SARIMA, Prophet, CatBoost, and Random Forest are applied. Methods for effectively capturing passenger demand patterns were evaluated through various models, and the machine learning-based Random Forest model showed the best prediction results. The research results will present an optimal model for accurate demand forecasting in the aviation industry and provide basic information needed for operational planning and resource allocation.
Since the north port in Busan started to operate in general pier (1, 2, central, 3 and 4), the business area had been expanded to Jasungdae, Shinsundae, Gamman zone and so on However, these zones adjoin the Busan city and have caused problems to both logistics and city activities. The operation of Off-Dock Container Yard (ODCY) is a representative example due to the limited sphere of Container Yard in this city. It increases logistics costs and causes serious social problems as a result of increasing traffic in the trunk roads such as Uam and Chungjang roads. This paper aims to analyze the effects of the reduction in traffic of trunk roads in Chungjan, Uam roads and so on, when General Pier and Jasungdae Pier are Re-developed. The effects of the reduction in social cost from traffic congestion are also analyzed. Finally, we predict and evaluate the effects according to the re-development of two piers, north pier and Jasungdae pier.

Urban air mobility (UAM) equipped with rotor system is subject to ground effect at vertiport during takeoff and landing. The aerodynamic performance of the aircraft in ground effect should be analyzed for the safe operation. In this study, The ground effects on the aerodynamic performance and wake structure of the quadcopter electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) configuration equipped with coaxial counter-rotating propellers were investigated by using the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). The influence of the ground effect was observed differently in the upper and lower propellers of the coaxial counter-rotating propeller system. There was no significant change in the aerodynamic performance of the upper propeller even if the propeller height above the ground was changed, whereas the averaged thrust and torque of the lower propeller increased significantly as propeller height decreased. In addition, the amplitude of the thrust fluctuation tended to increase as the propeller height decreased. The propeller wake was not sufficiently propagated downstream and was diffused along the ground due to the outwash flow developed by the ground effect. The impingement of the rotor wakes on the ground and a fountain vortex structure were observed.
The purpose of this paper is to conduct a comparative analysis of container terminal operation in Busan and Kwangyang port. The research method used for this study is DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis} and among DEA methods CCR and BCC model has been used. According to the results of CCR model Gamman in 2004 and Gamcheon in 2004 are found to be the most efficient terminals in the sample and the inefficient terminals include Gwangyang Phase 2 terminal. Based on BCC model Gamcheon and Uam are identified as the most efficient terminals in three consecutive years including Gamman terminal in 2004. The inefficient terminals include New Gamman in 2002 and Hutchison in 2002. The research findings show that inefficient terminals need to fully utilise their terminal facilities and increase container throughput through effective marketing activities.
An important challenge in commercialization of eVTOL PAV is to reduce noise for urban air mobility (UAM) operation. Therefore, in this paper, noise priority routes were created to minimize the number of people affected by noise using aviation environmental design tool (AEDT) software and population distribution data for administrative districts, and noise analyses during operation were performed. Also, it was analyzed how much noise exposure could be reduced compared to the number of people affected by noise in the shortest route. Considering that the eVTOL PAV developers do not provide data, the analysis was conducted using a helicopter model. As a result, it was shown that the noise priority route that minimized the amount of noise exposure was more efficient than other routes.
Airlines tried to introduce training programs in connection with practical work in order to provide more effective education and training. To this end, airlines have been conducting evidence-based training(EBT) to strengthen the practical capabilities of aviation personnel and enhance safety culture. Airlines can systematically evaluate the capabilities and practical capabilities of aviation personnel by analyzing operational data and case studies for effective EBT model development. In addition, EBT models can be constructed by applying technical methods such as crew resource management (CRM) and a holistic approach that includes human factors. Due to the introduction of EBT, airlines will establish diagnostic and feedback systems for pilots' practical work, provide personalized education, and establish an education and training system that verifies the effectiveness of education through educational outcomes.
There were many theoretical studies using mathematical models about a yard storage capacity in a container terminal so far, but a simulation approach is newly popularizing. The reason why the simulation studies about yard storage capacity were a few was that once the most important part in a container terminal was a quay part. However, from the economic crisis year of 1977, the yard storage part in a container terminal became a critical resource because of the shortage of SOC investment resources. Therefore, after discharging or loading even through there was a waiting in the quay part or not, it can be swiftly improved the efficiency of a container terminal if it was handled rapidly or smoothly in a container yard. So the accurate assessment of yard storage capacity in a container terminal was needed. This study planed to assess the operation capability of a container yard via a simulation model. The model included many chatacteristics of three Korean container terminals such as Gamman Hanjin, Uam, and Hutchinson Busan at the period of 1999 to 2000. The 95% percentile was chosen as a criterion for judging of the storage capability by the recommendation of KPC (1998) and JWD (1998). A simulation approach with system dynamics concept considering the multi-directional impacts within the related variables can probavly foresee the future storage capacity of a terminal not just the past.

A smart city utilizes data collected from various sensors through the internet of things (IoT) and improves city operations across the urban area. Recently substantial research is underway to examine all aspects of data that requires for the smart city operation. Atmospheric data are an essential component for successful smart city implementation, including Urban Air Mobility (UAM), infrastructure planning, safety and convenience, and traffic management. Unfortunately, the current level of conventional atmospheric data does not meet the needs of the new city concept. New and innovative approaches to developing high spatiotemporal resolution of observational and modeling data, resolving the complex urban structure, are expected to support the future needs. The geographic information system (GIS) integrates the atmospheric data with the urban structure and offers information system enhancement. In this study we proposed the necessity and applicability of the high resolution urban meteorological dataset based on heavy fog cases in the smart city region (e.g., Sejong and Pusan) in Korea.
In many metropolitan cities around the world, ground and underground transportation networks are saturated due to urbanization. In addition, regulations on carbon emissions to prevent global warming are becoming stricter, and eVTOL, which will be operating in complex cities, is gaining popularity as the next generation of eco-friendly transportation. In this study, the hover lift efficiency and disc loading of eVTOLs for each type were calculated by classifying eVTOLs into following types: multicopter, lift+cruise, and vectored thrust. In addition, using the aerodynamic analysis programs OpenVSP, Fluent and Javaprop, the specific battery energy required for the smooth operation of eVTOL, which will be realized in the near future, was calculated and analyzed base on reports published by Uber and airworthiness authorities of each country.
