A Study on Major Curriculum Based on Individual's Capacities-Focused on Physical Therapy Department in U University

  • Purpose: Since core competence-based training is in demand, this study aimed to develop a suitable talent model and major competencies for the Department of Physical Therapy at U University and use it to propose appropriate educational subjects. Methods: This case study was conducted at U university in Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. To study curricula based on major competence, related documents were analyzed, expert opinions were obtained, and a consumer survey was conducted. Results: U University assigns major competencies for each department, develops subjects accordingly, maps them, and constructs a competency matrix. The four major competencies of physical therapy were defined as musculoskeletal system, nervous system, cardiorespiratory system and sports injury, and physical management abilities. In order to realize these major competencies, U University added subjects to its curriculum. Conclusion: The results of internal and external environmental analysis should be more actively considered to enable changes in subjects at the departmental level. In addition, the setting of major competencies should be subjected to more detailed, specific reviews to maintain the basic principles of major curricula.

사용후핵연료 심지층 처분장의 완충재 소재인 WRK 벤토나이트의 pH 차이에 따른 우라늄 흡착 특성과 기작 (Uranium Adsorption Properties and Mechanisms of the WRK Bentonite at Different pH Condition as a Buffer Material in the Deep Geological Repository for the Spent Nuclear Fuel)

  • 사용후핵연료(Spent nuclear fuel; SNF) 심지층 처분장의 완충재 소재로서 WRK (waste repository Korea) 벤토나이트가 적합한 지를 평가하기 위하여, 대표적인 방사성 핵종인 U (uranium)에 대한 WRK 벤토나이트의 흡/탈착 특성과 흡착 기작을 규명하는 다양한 분석, 흡/탈착 실내 실험, 동역학 흡착 모델링을 다양한 pH 조건에서 수행하였다. 다양한 특성 분석 결과, 주성분은 Ca-몬모릴로나이트이며, U 흡착 능력이 뛰어난 광물학적·구조적 특징들을 가지고 있었다. WRK 벤토나이트의 U 흡착 효율 및 탈착율을 규명하기 위한 흡/탈착 실험 결과, pH 5, 6, 10, 11 조건에서 WRK 벤토나이트와 U 오염수(1 mg/L)가 낮은 비율(2 g/L)로 혼합되었음에도 불구하고 높은 U 흡착 효율(>74%)과 낮은 U 탈착율(<14%)을 보였으며, 이는 WRK 벤토나이트가 SNF 처분장에서 U 거동을 제한하는 완충재 소재로서 적절하게 사용될 수 있음을 의미한다. pH 3과 7 조건에서는 상대적으로 낮은 U 흡착 효율(<45%)이 나타났으며, 이는 U가 용액의 pH 조건에 따라 다양한 형태로 존재하며, 존재 형태에 따라 상이한 U 흡착 기작을 가지기 때문으로 판단된다. 본 연구 실험 결과와 선행연구를 바탕으로 WRK 벤토나이트의 주요 화학적 U 흡착 기작을 pH 범위에 따라 용액 내 U의 존재 형태에 근거하여 설명하였다. pH 3 이하에서 주로 UO22+ 형태로 존재하는 U는 벤토나이트 표면의 Si-O 또는 Al-O(OH)와의 정전기적 인력(예: 이온 결합)에 의해 흡착되기 때문에 pH가 감소할수록 음전하 표면이 약해지는 WRK 벤토나이트 특성에 의해 비교적 낮은 U 흡착 효율이 나타났다. pH 7 이상의 알칼리성 조건에서 U는 음이온 U-수산화 복합체(UO2(OH)3-, UO2(OH)42-, (UO2)3(OH)7- 등)로 존재하며 비교적 높은 흡착 효율이 나타내는데, 이들은 벤토나이트에 포함된 Si-O 또는 Al-O(OH)의 산소원자를 공유하거나 리간드 교환에 의해 새로운 U-복합체가 형성되어 흡착되거나 수산화물 형태의 공침(co-precipitation)에 의해 벤토나이트에 고정되기 때문이다. pH 7의 중성 조건에서는 pH 5와 6보다 오히려 낮은 U 흡착 효율(42%)이 나타났는데, 이러한 결과는 용액 내 존재하는 탄산염(carbonate)에 의해 U가 U-수산화 복합체보다 용해도가 높은 U-탄산염 복합체로 존재하는 경우 가능하다. 연구 결과 pH를 약산성 또는 염기성 조건으로 유지하거나 용액 내 존재하는 탄산염을 제한함으로써 WRK 벤토나이트의 U 흡착 효율을 높일 수 있는 것으로 나타났다.

타이타늄 상악 주연결장치에 디자인에 따른 주조성 및 견고성 비교 (COMPARISON OF RIGIDITY AND CASTABILITY IN DIFFERENT DESIGNS OF MAXILLARY MAJOR TITANIUM FRAMEWORK)

  • Statement of problem: Injuries along with discomfort may result on the oral mucosa when non-rigid material is used as the major connector in construction of RPD, since nonrigid major connectors transmit unstable forces throughout the appliance. Titanium which recently draws attention as a substitute of Co-Cr had a difficulty in fabricating due to high melting temperature but the development of casting technique makes it possible to apply to the clinical case. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the rigidity and the castability of titanium upper major connector by design and make a comparison with Co-Cr major connectors which are widely used in clinical cases now. Material and methods: Casting was done using CP-Ti(Grage 2) (Kobe still Co., Japan) for the experimental groups, and 4 various designs namely palatal strap, U-shaped bar, A-P strap, and complete palatal plate were casted and 5 of each designs were included in each group. For the experimental group, Universal testing machine (Model 4502; Instron, Canton, Mass) was used to apply vertical torsional force vertically to the horizontal plane of major connector. In the second experiment, Vertical compressive force was applied to the horizontal plane of major connector. As a comparative group, Co-Cr major connector was equally manufactured and underwent the same experimental procedures Strain rate was measured after constant loading for one minute duration, and statistical analysis was done with SPSS ver.10.0 for WIN(SPSS. Inc. USA). From the one-way ANOVA and variance analysis (P=0.05), Scheffe's multiple comparison test implemented. Results: 1. Least amount of strain was observed with complete palatal plate followed by A-P bar, palatal bar, and the U-shaped bar having most amount of strain. 2. In all designs of titanium major connector, less strain rate was observed under compressive loading than under torsional loading showing more resistance to lateral force. 3. For titanium major connector, less strain rate was observed when the force is applied to the first premolar area rather than to the second molar area indicating more strength with shorter length of lever. 4. In Comparison of Co-Cr major connector with titanium major connector, palatal strap and U-shaped bar designs showed higher strength under torsional force that is statically significant, and under compressive force, no significant difference was observed expert for U-shaped bar. 5. In titanium major connector, complete palatal plate showed lowest success rate in casting when compared with the Co-Cr major connector. Conclusion: Above results prove that when using titanium for major connector, only with designs capable of generating rigidity can the major connector have almost equal amount of rigidity as Co-Cr major connector and show lower success rate in casting when compared with the Co-Cr major connector.

치과위생사 이미지, 전공만족도 및 중도탈락의도의 구조적 관계 (Structural relationship of dental hygienist image, major satisfaction, and dropout intention)

  • Objectives: This study investigates dropout intention and the structural relationship between the dental hygienist role and satisfaction with the study major perceived by dental hygiene students. Methods: A survey was conducted on 269 dental hygiene students. The survey items covered general characteristics, department choice motivation, the desirability of dental hygienist career, practice clinical experience, perception of dental hygienist role, satisfaction with study major, and dropout intention. Independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U test, multiple linear regression analysis, and structural equation modeling were used for statistical analysis. Results: The dropout intention level of dental hygiene students was 2.4 out of 5.0. Satisfaction with study major partially mediates perception of dental hygienist role and dropout intention (direct effect=0.182, p=0.024, indirect effect=-0.437, p=0.010). Perception of dental hygienist role (β=-0.255, p=0.010) and satisfaction with study major (β=-0.661, p=0.010) showed a negative relationship with dropout intention. The factor most affecting dropout intention was satisfaction with study major. Dropout intention was high when selecting a major based on external motivations (β=-0.448, p<0.001). Conclusions: Perception of dental hygienist role and satisfaction with study major directly or indirectly affect dropout intention. Therefore, improving satisfaction with study major and improving the perception of dental hygienists will help reduce dropout intention.

  • 최근 들어 미국, 유럽 등 주요 선진국들은 유헬스 산업을 차세대 성장동력 산업으로 선정, 국가의 역량을 집결시키고 있으며, 국내외의 주요 기업들 역시 유헬스 산업에 경쟁적으로 진출하고 있다. 유헬스 산업이 갖는 높은 성장 잠재력과 파급효과에도 불구하고, 현재까지의 연구는 유헬스 기반 구축을 위한 요소기술에만 초점을 맞춰 왔다. 본 연구에서는 유헬스 산업 생태계 전반을 대상으로 하여 여러 분야에서 다양한 목적으로 추진되는 유헬스 비즈니스 모델을 체계적으로 분석하고자 한다. 이를 위해 우선 유헬스 산업의 가치 사슬을 분석하고 국내외에서 다양하게 추진되고 있는 비즈니스 모델을 탐색하였다. 또한 상대적으로 연구가 부족한 생명보험 산업을 대상으로 유헬스로 인한 향후 생명보험업의 변화를 분석하였다.

『동의보감(東醫寶鑑)』에 수록된 파킨슨병 치료 처방(處方) 후보군 선별 연구 (Research on prescription candidates for Parkinson's disease in 『Dongeuibogam』)

  • Objectives : This study aims to sort out prescription candidates for four major symptoms of Parkinson's disease from Korean traditional medical publication, "Dongeuibogam". Methods : Medical terms related to four major symptoms of Parkinson's disease were primarily selected from "Dongeuibogam". Prescriptions that include at least one or more medical terms which are selected above were classified by the four major symptoms of Parkinson's disease, and finally analyzed to sort the most effective candidates. Results & Conclusions : 1. The results in this study ought to be verified by subsequent studies and clinical trials.

Heritage Language and Culture Maintenance in the U.S.

  • In recent years, the relationship of language maintenance to culture and identity has received increased attention in the language acquisition and education fields. Korean immigrants in the U.S. form one of the biggest Asian groups and their language and cultural maintenance has been a major issue for both parents and ESL teachers. The present research is designed to investigate the cultural and social identities as well as the psychological investment factors that contribute to heritage language maintenance. Three Korean immigrant families in a small Midwest university town in the U.S. were surveyed and later interviewed. Issues and strategies concerning their children's Korean education in the U.S., coupled with the competing goal for the children to learn English were documented through parent interviews and interviews with school-aged focal children. Strategies and stances that facilitate or hinder both heritage and target language maintenance goals are presented along with participants' major reasons for heritage language maintenance in their homes and via Saturday schools. This work will assist ESL teachers and sociolinguists in situating both Korean student and parent goals in the context of shifting cultural and linguistic identities in countries where they have immigrated.

  • The-state-of-the-art of rice drying in the U.S.A. is presented. The U.S.A. is a minor producer but major exporter of rice. Head yield is its major criterion in evaluating rice quality . A decrease of 1 to 3 points in head yield can be expected to occur in a well-designed rice-drying system. Rice is dried on the farm in bins in the U.S. A., and n high-temperature continuous -flow dryers at the elevator level. Two relatively new rice-drying systems are discussed in some detail. : The top-bin/in -bin-counterflow bin-type on-farm dryer, and the concurrent-flow high-temperature elevator dryer.

Protective Effect of EGCG Against Reactive Oxygen Species-induced Stress

  • EGCG[(-)-epigallocatechin gallate], is a major component of green tea has been considered as a major antioxidant constituent. It has been considered as potential chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic agents. However, very little is known about the cellular actions by which EGCG mediates its therapeutic effects. Various aspects of antioxidant activity of EGCG were evaluated in this study. EGCG itself did not show significant cytotoxicity. Significant 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity was observed in all ranges of concentration ($0.8-100{\mu}g/ml$) used in this study. Protective effect of EGCG against hydrogen peroxide induced cell death was observed. Relatively high lipid peroxidation inhibitory activity were detected ($IC_{50}$ was about $20{\mu}g/ml$). EGCG also dose-dependently enhanced the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) in V79-4 cells. In concentrations of $100{\mu}g/ml$ of EGCG, activities of SOD, CAT and GPX were measured as 36.9 U/mg of protein, 22.9 U/mg of protein and 17.8 U/mg of protein, respectively. When these values were compared with those of the control groups (24.9 U/mg of protein, 14.9 U/mg of protein and 11.7 U/mg of protein), the relative increases were calculated as 48, 54 and 52%, respectively. Taken together, our findings suggest that EGCG can act as an antioxidant by scavenging radicals and enhancing antioxidant enzyme activities.

쏙(Upogebia major) 효소가수분해물의 면역증강 효과 (Immuno-potentiating Activities of Enzymatic Hydrolysate of Japanese Mud Shrimp Upogebia major)

  • This study investigated the immuno-potentiating activities of Japanese mud shrimp Upogebia major. We examined the effects of enzymatic hydrolysate from U. major on the production of nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin $E_2$ ($PGE_2$) and on the expression of pro-inflammation cytokines including $TNF-{\alpha}$, IL-6 and $IL-1{\beta}$ in RAW 264.7 cells. The treatment of six enzymatic hydrolysates of U. major (alcalase, ${\alpha}$-chymotrypsin [${\alpha}-Chy$], trypsin, pepsin, neutrase, protamex) significantly increased the production of NO in RAW 264.7 cells, with ${\alpha}-Chy$ having the greatest effect. This hydrolysate was fractionated by two ultrafiltration membranes at 3 and 10 kDa to created three fractions (below 3 kDa, between 3 and 10 kDa, and above 10 kDa). Of these, the <3 kDa and >10 kDa fractions showed significant increases in NO production. These two fractions also induced $PGE_2$ production in RAW 264.7 cells and showed significant increases in the expression of all cytokines studied. These results suggest that enzymatic hydrolysate from U. major is a potentially useful food material with immune-potentiating effects.
