In this study, a torsional test for U-type steel box girders was performed to observe the effects of the kind of panel for top lateral walateral bracings on the torsional behavior of the U-type steel girder system. For the structural tests, the test specimen with a two-thirds scale of the system actually constructed in the field was used. In the torsional test to observe the efects of top lateral bracings, the most economical arrangement of the top lateral bracing was found to be the panel width to length ratio of 1:1.5 with the inclined angle of $40^{\circ}$.

In South Korea, U-type girder development was attempted as a means to increase the length of I-type girder, but due to the large self-weight according to the post-tension method, the application of rail bridges of 30m or less is typical. There are not many examples of application of pre-tension type girder. This study does not limit the post-tension method, but applies the pre-tension method to induce a reduction in self-weight and materials used due to the reduction of the cross-section. In addition, we intend to apply the on-site pre-tensioning method using the internal reaction arm of the U-type girder. The prestressed concrete U-type girder bridge is composed of a concrete deck slab and a composite section. Compared to the PSC I-type, which is an open cross-section because the cross section is closed, structural performance such as resistance and rigidity is improved, the safety of construction is increased during the manufacturing and erection stage, and the height ratio is reduced due to the reduction of its own weight. Therefore, it is possible to secure the aesthetic scenery and economical of the bridge. As a result, it is expected that efficient construction will be possible with high-quality factory-manufactured members and cast-in-place members. In this paper, the introduction of the pre-tension method on-site and the analytical performance verification of the anchoring block for tension are included.

Prestressed Concrete (PSC) girders are divided into pre- and post-tension types as prestressing method, and I- and U-type as cross-sectional shape. There are both advantages and disadvantages depending on each prestressing method and cross-sectional shape, and each method is applied to bridge construction sites. In this study, a new girder design was attempted to develop that overcomes its shortcomings by using the pretension method and U-type cross sectional shape. Its structural performance was verified in this study. Pretension type girders are mainly manufactured in factories because they require a reaction arm and related facilities, and have the disadvantage of being limited in weight and span length for road transportation. In addition, in the case of the U-type cross-section, structural stability is very reliable during construction against overturning, but its own weight is relatively large comparing to I-type, and the post-tension method is mainly applied after on-site production. In this study, a PSC girder manufacturing method using the field pretension was proposed and a span length of 40 m real-scale test specimen was manufactured and verified its structural performance.

In the present study, tests for U-type steel box girder are performed to observe the effects of W-type and X-type of top lateral bracings on the bending behavior of the U-type steel box girder system. Another objective of the present study is to investigate the adequacy of the currently available design formula. For the structural tests, the test specimen with two third scale of the system constructed in the field was used. In this test, several different spacings are used for the top lateral bracings. The stresses measured from the bending tests are compared with those by the formula proposed by Helwig. An adequate type and the required number of panel for diagonal bracing was obtained.
In this study, the distortional behaviors of tub-section steel girders subjected to torsional loading were analyzed, and predictor equations were developed for estimating the member forces induced in the internal bracing system installed in the steel tub girders. Torsional loadings originated either by eccentric vertical loading or girder curvature were decomposed into the pure torsional force component that does not affect the distortional box deformation, and into the distortional force component that directly induces box distortion. The axial member forces induced in the internal cross frames were formulated as a function of the magnitude of torsional loading through the analytical investigation of the interactions between the distortional force component and internal cross frames. To verify the proposed equations, three-dimensional finite element analysis (3D FEA) was conducted for the straight simple-span girder and the three-span continuous girder samples. Very good agreement was found between the member forces from the FEA and the proposed equations.

The flexural behavior tests of UHPC segmental U-girder and composite U-girder which has 160MPa compressive strength and 15.4m length were carried out. The test variables are volume fraction of steel fibers and slab over the U-girder. Each U-girder has longitudinal re-bars in web and lower flange. PS tendons which has 2 of 15.2mm diameter in upper flange and PS tendons which has 7 of 15.2mm diameter in lower flange were arranged and prestressed at onetime in U-girder connection stage. Enough strong prestressing force which applied to U-girder due to ultra high performance concrete strength can withstand the self weight and dead load in U-girder stage. By comparison with the brittle behavior of U-girder, composite U-girder showed the stable and ductile behavior. After the construction of slab over U-girder, flexural load capacity of composite U-girder can bear the design load in final construction stage with only one time prestressing operation which already carried out in U-girder stage. This simple prestressing method due to the ultra high strength concrete have the advantage in construction step and cost. The shear key which has narrow space has the strong composite connection between ultra high strength concrete U-girder and high strength concrete slab didn't show any slip and opening right before failure load.
A girder height limitation is the critical parameter for rapid construction of bridge deck and construction space limitation especially in urban area such as high population area and high density habitats. A standard post-tensioned I-shaped concrete girder usually demands relatively higher girder height in order to retain sufficient moment arm between compression force and tensile force. To elaborate this issue, a small U-shaped section with wide flanges can be used as a possible replacement of I-shaped standard girder. This prestressed concrete box girder allows more flexible girder height adjustment rather than standard I-shaped post-tensioned girder plus additional torsion resistance benefits of closed section. A 30m-long, 1.7m-high and 3.63m-wide actual small prestressed concrete box girder is designed and a laboratory test for its static behaviors by applying 6,200kN amount of load in the form of 4-point bending test was performed. The load-deflection curve and crack patterns at different loading stage are recorded. In addition, to extracting the dynamic characteristics such as natural frequency and damping ratio of this girder, several excitation tests with artificial mechanical exciter with un-symmetric mass are carried out using operational frequency sweep-up. Nonlinear finite element analysis of this 4 point bending test under monotonic static load is investigated and discussed with aids of concrete damaged plasticity formulation using ABAQUS program.
Purpose: This study aims to verify structural stability by manufacturing a 40m full-scale specimen composed of a segmental U-shaped PSC girder with integrated tensioning systems and a concrete slab, proceeding dynamic behavior tests, and compare the results of the tests with the results of numerical analysis. Method: Dynamic behavior tests were conducted on a full-scale, undamaged specimen using an impact hammer, and the natural frequency and damping ratio were measured and compared with numerical analysis techniques and the general damping ratio of the facilities. Result: The natural frequency of the numerical analysis model consisting of a girder and slab composite section was calculated to be 2.561Hz, the natural frequency of the full-scale specimen was measured to be 2.670Hz, and the damping ratio was calculated to be 0.42~0.68%. Conclusion: The natural frequency of the full-scale specimen was found to be 4.3% larger than that of the numerical analysis model. Since the masses of the full-scale specimen and the numerical analysis model are the same as 99.97%, it can be derived that the stiffness of the full-scale specimen has secured structural safety and stability. As a result, the dynamic behavior stability of the specimen was verified. The measured damping ratio of 0.42~0.68% was found to be a stable dynamic behavior compared to the PSC structures damping ratio of 0.5~1.0% in the elastic region.

Maglev is a system that a train runs levitated above a rail. Therefore it is very important to maintain a constant levitation gap for achieving serviceability and ride comfort. This study is a cooperation research subject of the 3-1 subject, performance improvement of maglev track structures, of the Center for Urban Maglev Program in Korea, started in 2006. The aim of this study is development of rapid constructions of bridge superstructure for maglev. At present, precast deck is widely used because of its superiority to cast-in-place concrete on quality and the term of works. The research group suggested basic systems of maglev guideway with PSC-U type and trapezoidal open steel box type girder, and precast deck, cooperating with Korea Railroad Research Institute, the managing institute of the 3-1 subject. In this study, a mock-up consisted of girders, decks and rail was fabricated and test was performed for constructability, serviceability and maintenance evaluation of PSC U-type girder, precast deck, and new guide rail system.
Purpose: This study verified the safety of the improved box-type girder behavior by comparing and evaluating the bending behavior results of a full-scale specimen based on the analytical behavior of the splice element PSC U-shaped girder with integrated tensioning systems. Method: Based on the results of the service and strength limit state design using the bridge design standard(limit state design method), the applied load of a 40m full-scale specimen was calculated and a static loading experiment using the four-point loading method was performed. Result: When the design load, crack load, and ultimate load were applied, the specimen deflection occurred at 97.1%, 98.5%, and 79.0% of the analytical deflection value. When the design load, crack load, and ultimate load were applied, the crack gauge was measured at 0.009~0.035mm, 0.014~0.050mm, and 6.383~5.522mm at each connection. Conclusion: The specimen behaved linear-elastically until the crack load was applied, and after cracks occurred, it showed strainhardening up to the ultimate load, and it was confirmed that the resistance of bending behavior was clearly displayed against the applied load. The cracks in the dry joints were less than 25% of grade B based on the evaluation of facility condition standard. The final residual deformation after removing the ultimate load was 0.114mm, confirming the stable behavior of the segment connection.
