Guyed mast structures exhibit characteristics such as high flexibility, low mass, small damping ratio, and large aspect ratio, leading to a complex wind-induced vibration response mechanism. This study analyzed the time- and frequency-domain characteristics of the wind-induced response of a guyed mast structure using measured acceleration response data obtained from the Shenzhen Meteorological Gradient Tower (SZMGT). Firstly, 734 sets of 1-hour acceleration samples measured from 0:00 October 1, 2021, to 0:00 November 1, 2021, were selected to study the vibration shapes of the mast and the characteristics of the generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution. Secondly, six sets of typical samples with different vibration intensities were further selected to explore the Gaussian property and modal parameter characteristics of the mast. Finally, the modal parameters of the SZMGT are identified and the identification results are verified by finite element analysis. The findings revealed that the guyed mast vibration shape exhibits remarkable diversity, which increases nonlinearly along the height in most cases and reaches a maximum at the top of the tower. Moreover, the GEV distribution characteristics of the 734 sets of samples are closer to the Weibull distribution. The probability distribution of the structural wind vibration response under strong wind is in good agreement with the Gaussian distribution. The structural response of the mast under wind loading exhibits multiple modes. As the structural response escalates, the first three orders of modal energy in the tower display a gradual increase in proportion.
The National Institute of Meteorological Research (NIMR) has operated the Fourier Transform InfraRed (FTIR) spectrometer which is the Atmospheric Emitted Radiance Interferometer (AERI) in Anmyeon island, Korea since June 2010. The ground-based AERI with similar hyper-spectral infrared sensor to satellite could be an alternative way to validate satellite-based remote sensing. In this regard, the NIMR has focused on the improvement of retrieval quality from the AERI, particularly cloud-data filtering method. The AERI spectrum which is measured on a typical clear day is selected reference spectrum and we used region of atmospheric window. We performed test of threshold in order to select valid threshold. We retrieved methane using new method which is used reference spectrum, and the other method which is used KLAPS cloud cover information, each retrieved methane was compared with that of ground-based in-situ measurements. The quality of AERI methane retrievals of new method was significantly more improved than method of used KLAPS. In addition, the comparison of vertical total column of methane from AERI and GOSAT shows good result.
PV system output is determined according to the weather conditions, the azimuth and tilt angle. Weather conditions are changing every moment and it seems to vary according to the daily, monthly, and annual basis. The azimuth and tilt angle is decided along the site conditions for the PV system installation. This paper analyzed the PV system output through the changing the weather conditions, the azimuth, and tilt angle. We compared the TMY data and analysis of the two major weather institutes which are KMA and METEONORM. PV system output trend were analyzed by changing the azimuth and tilt angle. We used simulation tool, which is named PVsyst for the entire PV system analysis.
Sea surface cooling (SSC) with the passage of typhoons is examined in the East Sea using the Japan Meteorological Agency buoy data $(37^{\circ}45'N,\;134^{\circ}23'E)$ during 1983-2000 and a three-dimensional primitive equation model (the Princeton Ocean Model). Forty typhoons in this period induced the SST decrease ranging from about $-0.5^{\circ}C\;to\;-4.3^{\circ}C.$ Intense SSC $(<-2^{\circ}C)$ occurs with typhoons that passed mainly through the left-hand side of the buoy station. The model is implemented to examine a physical process of SSC with a typical-track typhoon in the northwestern Pacific $(24^{\circ}N\;to\;52^{\circ}N).$ The model well reproduces prominent features in the observation and addresses how it happens; SSC is induced mainly by momentum mixing effect stirred with the typhoon rather than upwelling.

A mathematical model is formulated to study the effect of wall mass on the thermal performance of four different houses of different construction. This analytical study was motivated by the experimental work of Burch et al. An analytical solution of one -dimensional, linear, partial differential equation for wall temperature profiles and room air temperatures is obtained using the Laplace transform method. Typical Meteorological Year data are processed to yield hourly average monthly values. These discrete data are then converted to a continuous, time dependent form using a Fast Fourier Transform method. This study is conducted using weather data from four different locations in the United States: Albuquerque, New mexico; Miami, Florida; Santa Maria, California; and Washington D.C. for both winter and summer conditions. A computer code is developed to calculate the wall temperature profile, room air temperature, and energy consumption loads. Three sets of results are calculated one for no auxiliary energy and two for different control mechanism -- an on-off controller and a proportional controller. Comparisons are made for the cases of two controllers. Heavy weight houses with insulation in mild weather areas (such as August in Santa Maria, California) show a high comfort level. Houses using proportional control experience a higher comfort level in comparison to houses using on-off control. The result shows that there is an effect of mass on the thermal performance of a heavily constructed house in mild weather conditions.
The single-scattering optical properties of ice crystals in cirrus clouds by the aircraft measurement data were investigated, and the radiative equilibrium temperatures and radiative fluxes were calculated and analyzed by radiative convective model with the variations of ice crystal habits and sizes in cirrus clouds. The homogeneous cloud is assumed to be in the layer 200~260 hPa with an ice crystal content of $10gm^{-2}$ for the flux calculation. The profiles of temperature, humidity, and ozone typical of mid-latitude summer are used. The surface albedo is assumed to be 0.2 for all spectral bands and the cosine of solar zenith angles is 0.5. The result of radiative equilibrium temperature at surface was less than surface temperature of the standard atmosphere data in case of smaller effective ice crystal size and larger optical thickness. The column, aggregation and plate in 6 ice crystal habits were the most effective in positive greenhouse effect and bullet-4 was the worst in it. At the surface, the maximum difference of equilibrium temperature by 6 kinds of ice crystal habits were about 3~15 K with 30 sample aircraft measurement data.
This study was carried out to determine the optimal number of ARGO floats in the East Sea in order to maximize their applications. The dominant spatio-temporal scale, size of the domain, and the typical float lifetimes in the East Sea were taken into consideration. The mean spatial de-correlation scale of temperature on isobaric surfaces reaches about 60 km. The minimum necessary number of floats is about 82 on average in order to secure independent ARGO profiles with the de-correlation scale. Considering the float lifetimes, about 27 floats per year should be deployed to maintain the 82 ARGO float array every year. To obtain spatially uniform distribution of ARGO float data, mean residence time and dispersion rate (basin area/residence time) of ARGO floats were evaluated in each basin of the East Sea. A faster (slower) dispersion rate requires more (less) ARGO floats to maintain the spatially uniform number of floats. According to the analysis, it is likely that the optimal ratio of the number of floats for each basin is 1:2:4 corresponding to Ulleung Basin:Yamato Basin:Japan Basin. In order to maintain relatively uniform ARGO observing networks, it is necessary to establish a long-term plan for deployment strategy based on float pathways and the dispersion rate parameters estimated by using currently active ARGO float trajectory data as well as reanalysis data.
This study is about an analysis of surplus solar energy by important greenhouse types as well as setting temperature different by using Typical Meteorological Year data which was secured in order to provide basic data for designing an optimum thermal storage system to accumulate surplus solar energy generating in greenhouses during the daytime. Depending on the setting temperatures of $15{\sim}19^{\circ}C$ for greenhouse heating during day and night, surplus heat amounts were varied at the rate of about $0.2{\sim}6.9%/4^{\circ}C$ with some variations according to the greenhouse types and regions. On the other hand, the variations of supplemental heat requirements were about $29.7{\sim}50.0%/4^{\circ}C$. Depending on the setting temperatures for greenhouse ventilations(low $25{\sim}29^{\circ}C$ and high $27{\sim}31^{\circ}C$), surplus heat amounts were varied at the rate of about $-9.9{\sim}-35.6%/4^{\circ}C$ in auto-type greenhouse. But in single-type greenhouses, they were about $-5.1{\sim}-13.4%/4^{\circ}C$. There were not significant changes in supplemental heat amounts depending on setting temperatures of ventilation for both greenhouse types and regions.
In this study, reflecting long-term climate characteristics, we analyzed electricity generation and generation characteristics of 3kWp PV system, which was semi-integrated with air duct behind. Using PVsyst as a simulation analysis tool, we inputted "National reference standard weather data" of 16 regions as a typical climatic data. The result is summarized as follows: First, the national average annual electricity generation was 1,312 kWh/kWp (StDev, ${\sigma}=71$). It was most abundant in Mokpo with 1,434 kWh/kWp, which was average 21% greater than the lowest with 1,165 kWh/kWp in Seoul and 1,197 kWh/kWp in Jeju. National average daily generating time based on STC was 3.6 hours (${\sigma}=0.43$), and that of Mokpo and Seoul was 3.9 and 3.2 hours respectively. Second, Jeju showed the great difference of annual monthly generation by month (annual average = 99.7 kWh/kWp, ${\sigma}=25.5$), while Jinju showed the smallest difference (annual average = 115.5 kWh/kWp, ${\sigma}=10.6$). Generation in Jeju was at the largest in April with 132.2 kWh/kWp, which was 2.3 times greater than the lowest 55.2 kWh/kWp in January. However, generation in Jinju was at the largest in March with 129.3 kWh/kWp, which was only 1.3 times greater than the lowest 101.1 kWh/kWp in June. Third, the annual average PR was the highest in Incheon with 85.8% and the lowest in Jeju with 83.2%. PR of Mokpo was 84.3%, which was lower than that of national average.
This paper presents statistical analysis results of wind speed and atmospheric turbulence data measured from more than 30 anemometers installed at 15 different height levels on 325 m high Beijing Meteorological Tower and is primarily intended to provide useful information on boundary layer wind characteristics for wind-resistant design of tall buildings and high-rise structures. Profiles of mean wind speed are presented based on the field measurements and are compared with empirical models' predictions. Relevant parameters of atmospheric boundary layer at urban terrain are determined from the measured wind speed profiles. Furthermore, wind velocity data in longitudinal, lateral and vertical directions, which were recorded from an ultrasonic anemometer during windstorms, are analyzed and discussed. Atmospheric turbulence information such as turbulence intensity, gust factor, turbulence integral length scale and power spectral densities of the three-dimensional fluctuating wind velocity are presented and used to evaluate the adequacy of existing theoretical and empirical models. The objective of this study is to investigate the profiles of mean wind speed and atmospheric turbulence characteristics over a typical urban area.
