  • Having the ability to keep on yielding stable solutions in problems involving high potential of instability, composite time integration methods have become very popular among scientists. These methods try to split a time step into multiple sub-steps so that each sub-step can be solved using different time integration methods with different behaviors. This paper proposes a new composite time integration in which a time step is divided into two sub-steps; the first sub-step is solved using the well-known Newmark method and the second sub-step is solved using Simpson's Rule of integration. An unconditional stability region is determined for the constant parameters to be chosen from. Also accuracy analysis is perform on the proposed method and proved that minor period elongation as well as a reasonable amount of numerical dissipation is produced in the responses obtained by the proposed method. Finally, in order to provide a practical assessment of the method, several benchmark problems are solved using the proposed method.

  • In order to improve c-axis crystalline orientation and high perpendicular coercivity of deposited ${Co}_77{Cr}_20{Ta}_3$perpendicualr recording layer, Two step method was investigated using a Facing Targets Sputtering System(FTS). The ${\Delta\theta}_50$ of ${Co}_77{Cr}_20{Ta}_3$recording layer deposited on seedlayer prepared at Room Temperature was as low as $5^\circ$, while that of the recording layer without seedlayer was about 11$^{\circ}$. The Two-Step method using ${Co}_77{Cr}_20{Ta}_3$seedlayer prepared at Room Temperature was shown to be very effective in controling the c-axis orientation of ${Co}_77{Cr}_20{Ta}_3$ recording layer with thin thickness.

  • A two-step method is presented for the optimum design of trusses with available sections under stress and Euler buckling constraints. The shape design of the truss is used as a means to convert the discrete solution into a continuous one. In the first step of the method, a continuous solution is obtained by sizing and shape design using an approximate polynomial expression for the buckling coefficients. In the second step, the member sizes obtained are changed to the nearest available sections and the truss is reconfigured by using the exact values for the buckling coefficients. The optimizer used is based on the sequential quadratic programming and the gradients are evaluated in closed form. The method is illustrated by two numerical examples.

  • This paper describes a new cooperative strategy for two wheelchairs to climb a step. These two wheelchairrobots are connected with a simple linkage mechanism between the rear of one wheelchair and the front of another. Two wheelchair robots climb a step one after the other. In this research, We did not use a method by Which a robot lifts up and supports its weight using any special actuator but a method of handling the robot's moment of rotation by the force of the link which come from the assisting robot. This method is especially influenced by the height of the two robot's link positions. So we study this method from the viewpoint of changing the two-link positions....

  • The optimization method based on an enhanced genetic algorithms is proposed for multimodal function optimization in this paper This method is consisted of two main steps. The first step is global search step using the genetic algorithm(GA) and function assurance criterion(FAC). The belonging of an population to initial solution group is decided according to the FAC. The second step is to decide resemblance between individuals and research optimum solutions by single point method in reconstructive research space. Two numerical examples are also presented in this paper to comparing with conventional methods.

  • we propose two methods which separate the variable selection step and the split-point selection step. We call these two algorithms as CHITES method and F&CHITES method. They adapted some of the best characteristics of CART, CHAID, and QUEST. In the first step the variable, which is most significant to predict the target class values, is selected. In the second step, the exhaustive search method is applied to find the splitting point based on the selected variable in the first step. We compared the proposed methods, CART, and QUEST in terms of variable selection bias and power, error rates, and training times. The proposed methods are not only unbiased in the null case, but also powerful for selecting correct variables in non-null cases.

  • Stainless steel wire has been used in industry, dental and medical parts. Especially, it has been used widely for the dental orthodontic materials. The orthodontic wire requires good mechanical properties, such as elastic strength, combined with a high resistance to corrosion. To increase elastic strength and good corrosion resistance, drawing methods(one-step and two-step drawing) have been used and the electrochemical characteristics of drawed wire have been researched using potentiodynamic method in 0.9%NaCl and field emission scanning electron microscope. The one-step drawed wire showed the formation of rough surface. The hardness and tensile strength of two-step drawed wire increased. For the case of two-step drawed wire, the corrosion resistance and pitting potential increased compared with one-step drawed wire due to the drawing induced small surface roughness, such as scratch. The passivation and active current density decreased as the reduction in area for drawing increased.

  • A novel two-step acetone treatment method was developed to enhance the enantioselectivity of Candida rugosa lipase (CRL) toward the hydrolysis of racemic naproxen methyl ester. The acetone-teated CRL was considerably more enantioselective than the crude CRL, yielding an enantiomeric excess of 98~100%. The crude and acetone-treated CRLs were subjected to anion exchange chromatography, and their chromatography profiles were compared. In consequence, both chromatography profiles were found to be almost identical, resulting in two separate lipase peaks (lipase A and B). The lipase B, which is known to be less enantioselective, was treated with acetone using a two-step treatment method. The enantioselectivity of acetone-treated lipase B was dramatically increased, yielding an enantiomeric excess of 99%.

  • The study on computation time, accuracy, and convergency characteristic of the implicit finite difference method is presented with the variation of the space increment and time step in a two-dimensional transient heat conduction problem with a dirichlet boundary condition. Numerical analysis were conducted by the model having the conditions of the solution domain from 0 to 3m, thermal diffusivity of 1.26 $m^2/h$, initial condition of 272 K, and boundary condition of 255.4 K. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1) The degree of influence with respect to the accuracy of the time step and space increment in the alternating-direction implicit method and Crank-Nicholson implicit method were relatively small, but in case of the fully implicit method showed opposite tendency. 2) To prescribe near the zero for the space increment and tine step in a two dimensional transient problem were good in a accuracy aspect but unreasonable in a computational time aspect. 3) The reasonable condition of the space increment and the time step considering accuracy and computation time could be generalized with the Fourier modulus increment, F, ana dimensionless space increment, X, irrespective of the solution domain.

  • Purpose: This study evaluated the effect of different screw tightening sequences and methods on detorque values in a well-fitting implant superstructure. Materials and methods: A fully edentulous mandibular master model and a metal framework directly connected to four parallel implants (Astra Tech) with a passive fit to each other were fabricated. Six stone casts were made with a splinted impression technique to represent a 'well-fitting' situation with the metal framework. Detorque values were measured twice after screw tightening using 20 Ncm. Detorque values and minimum detorque values for three screw tightening sequences (1-2-3-4, 2-4-3-1, and 2-3-1-4) and for two tightening methods (two-step and one-step) were analyzed using multi-way analysis of variance and two-way analysis of variance, respectively, at a .05 level of significance. Results: The mean detorque values for screw tightening sequences ranged from 12.8 Ncm (2-4-3-1) to 13.1 Ncm (2-3-1-4), and for screw tightening methods were 13.1 Ncm (two-step) and 11.8 Ncm (one-step). The mean of mimimum detorque values for screw tightening sequences were 11.1 Ncm (1-2-3-4) and 11.2 Ncm (2-4-3-1 and 2-3-1-4), and for screw tightening methods were 11.2 Ncm (two-step) and 9.9 Ncm (one-step). No statistically significant differences among three screw tightening sequences were found for detorque values and for mimimum detorque values. But, statistically significant differences between two screw tightening methods were found for two values. Two-step screw tightening method showed higher detorque value (P = .0003) and higher minimum detorque value (P = .0035) than one-step method. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, the screw tightening sequence was not a critical factor for the detorque values in a well-fitting implant superstructure by the splinted impression technique. But, two-step screw tightening method showed greater detorque values than one-step method.
