  • Low-temperature combustion (LTC) strategies, such as HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition), PCCI (Premixed Charge Compression Ignition), and RCCI (Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition), have been developed to effectively reduce NOx and PM while increasing the thermal efficiency of diesel engines. Through numerical analysis, this study examined the effects of the injection timing and two-stage injection ratio of diesel fuel, a highly reactive fuel, on the performance and exhaust gas of RCCI engines using gasoline as the low reactive fuel and diesel as the highly reactive fuel. In the case of two-stage injection, combustion slows down if the first injection timing is too advanced. The combustion temperature decreases, resulting in lower combustion performance and an increase in HC and CO. The injection timing of approximately -60°ATDC is considered the optimal injection timing considering the combustion performance, exhaust gas, and maximum pressure rise rate. When the second injection timing was changed during the two-stage injection, considering the combustion performance, exhaust gas, and the maximum pressure increase rate, it was judged to be optimal around -30°ATDC. In the case of two-stage injection, the optimal result was obtained when the first injection amount was set to approximately 60%. Finally, a two-stage injection rather than a single injection was considered more effective on the combustion performance and exhaust gas.

  • Quality evaluation of beef carcasses is an important issue in the livestock industry. Recently, through the AI monitor system based on artificial intelligence, the quality manager can receive help in making accurate decisions based on the analysis of beef carcass images or result information. This artificial intelligence dataset is an important factor in judging performance. Existing datasets may have different surface orientation or resolution. In this paper, we proposed a two-stage classification model that can efficiently manage the grades of beef carcass image using deep learning. And to overcome the problem of the various conditions of the image, a new dataset of 1,300 images was constructed. The recognition rate of deep network for 5-grade classification using the new dataset was 72.5%. Two-stage evaluation is a method to increase reliability by taking advantage of the large difference between grades 1++, 1+, and grades 1 and 2 and 3. With two experiments using the proposed two stage model, the recognition rates of 73.7% and 77.2% were obtained. As this, The proposed method will be an efficient method if we have a dataset with 100% recognition rate in the first stage.

  • The effects of the movable reflectors on the stage acoustics in Seoul's Sejong Performing Arts Center (3,048-seat multi-purpose hall, stage area of $270m^2$ within an orchestra shell) and Ceramic Palace Hall (440-seat concert hall, stage area of $105m^2$) were investigated. Acoustical parameters were evaluated by measuring stage and audience acoustics in the two halls. The study was primarily based on the stage support parameter STI proposed by Gade (Acustica 65, pp.193-203, 1989). Results showed that STI varied on the stage of the large hall according to the position of the reflectors, whereas STI did not vary in the small hall. In the large hall, a smaller clear stage area (bounded by the reflectors) yields an increase in both STI and other early energy measures. In the small hall, early energy decreases when its stage's surface diffusion was covered with specular reflectors.

  • The purpose of this study was to characterize the prenatal and postnatal development of the mouse parotid salivary gland and tooth, and to investigate the relationship between the developmental timing of the two organs. Development of parotid salivary gland begins on embryonic day 15 (E15), which is the prebud stage; E17 is the initial bud stage; E21 to postnatal day 3 (PN3) is the pseudoglandular stage; PN5 to PN10 is the canalicular stage; and PN21 is the terminal bud stage. At E15, the developing maxillary molar tissue is at the bud stage; at E17, it is at the cap stage; at E21, it is at the early bell stage; PN3 to PN5 comprises the advanced bell stage; at PN10, it is at the crown stage; at PN21, it is at the functional stage. Therefore, unlike the other major salivary glands, the development of mouse parotid salivary gland is completed through a process of prenatal and postnatal morphogenesis and becomes functional at about the same time as the developing tooth. The developmental completion times of the parotid salivary gland and tooth are closely related to the weaning time of animal.

  • The refractive index of the laser interferometer is compensated using the simultaneously measured variations of room temperature and humidity in the method. In order to investigate the limit of compensation, the stationary test against two fixed reflectors mounted on the zerodur plate is performed firstly. From the experiment, it is confirmed that the measuring error of the laser interferometer can be improved from 0.12$\mu$m to 0.17$\mu$m by the application of the method. Secondly, for the verification of the compensating effect, it is applied to estimate the positioning accuracy of an ultra precision aerostatic stage. Two times of the refractive index compensation are performed to acquire the positioning error of the stage from the initially measured data, that is, to the initially measured positioning error and to the measured positioning error profile after the NC compensation. Although the positioning error of anaerostatic stage cannot be clarified perfectly, it is known that by the compensation method, the measuring error by the laser interferometer can be improved to within 0.15$\mu$m. • The two-stage enzyme reactor, packed with cyclodextrin glucanotransferase (CGTase) immobilized on Amberite IRA 900, coupled with ultrafiltration membrane was investigated for continuous production of cyclodextrin (CD). 5% (w/v) of soluble starch was partially cyclized, in the 0.1 l first-stage immobilized enzyme reactor, up to CD conversion yield of 10% (w/w) at retention time of 0.56hr and 1.5 units of immobilized CGTase/1g of carrier. In the second stage main immobilized enzyme reactor capacity of 1.5 l, the maximum CD conversion yield of 39% (w/v) was achieved at retention time of 2.8hr and 0.47 unit of CGTase/1 g of carrier. Unreacted residual dextrin was fractionated with ultrafiltration membrane, and then, recycled into the second-stage main bioreactor to increase the CD conversion yield. The most suitable membrane size and the volume concentration ratio (concentrate: filterate) for recycling of unreacted residual dextrin were found to be 5K dalton and 4:6, respectively. CD conversion yield was increased about 3~4% upon co-immobilization of pulluanase along with CGTase. Spent Amberite IRA 900 can be reutilized consecutively more than 3 times for immobilization of CGTase after regeneration.

  • Various culture conditions for cell growth and berberine production in cork tree (Phellodendron amurense Rupr.) were investigated. Callus was induced from cambium tissue of cork tree, and cultured on LS liquid medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/1 2,4-D, 0.1mg/1 BA, and 3% sucrose. Several factors enhancing berberine production and cell growth in cork tree cell cultures were found. Some of them enhanced both cell growth and berberine production, but others resulted in a decoupling of cell growth and berberine production with significant in the specific levels. High level of nitrate (80mM), high level of phosphate (8.98mM), and sucrose (7%), 1.0mg/l IAA were effective in berberine production, whereas low level of nitrate (40mM), and phosphate (2.25mM), and high level of sucrose (7%) in the medium were effective in cell growth. Two stage culture(first stage for cell growth, and second stage for berberine production) increased berberine production almost twice (5.06mg/g dry weight) as much as single stage cultures in berberine production.

  • The heading date is known to be controlled by two kinds of genetic constituent, photosensitivity and basic vegetable phase. For the latter, the effect of temperature in early growth period is critical to determine the shortness of vegetative growth periods in plant's life. A phytotron experiment on 55 rice cultivars, consisting of two ecotypes of rices, indica and japonica, was conducted at high and low temperature treatments at early growth stage to investigate the possible role of plant growth stimulus by high temperature to associate with shortening of heading date. The high temperature during the early growth stage stimulated the rice growth as measured by plant height with much difference of the growth response between indica and japonica. The conclusive finding that these growth stimulus in early growth stage was highly correlated with the acceleration of heading is, more or less, correlated with the heading of the late growth stage although we could not conclude the genes for early plant growth stimulus by high temperature is the same genes as the genes for accelerating of heading in the late growth stage of plants.

  • The present study represents the effects of boundary condition on the performance of a centrifugal blower at the interference plane between rotational and stationary domains using three dimensional compressible Navier-Stocks equations. Two boundary conditions, frozen-rotor and stage, are compared to analyze the blower performance. Installation angle between the cutoff of a volute casing and a impeller blade is also introduced to evaluate the blower performance and to understand the internal flow inside the blower. Throughout numerical simulation, it is found that the frozen rotor interface method at the interference plane represents well the variations of flow field inside the blower compared to stage interface method. However, pressure has maximum two percent error according to the installation angles while pressure is almost constant for the stage interface method. And stage interface method can relatively well predict the blower performance. Detailed internal flows of the centrifugal blower are compared and analyzed by numerical simulation.

  • This paper concerns the study of absorption refrigeration and heat pump cycle to use sewage. Simulation analysis on the double-effect absorption refrigeration cycle with parallel and two-stage heat pump cycle has been performed. The working fluid is Lithium Bromide and water solution. The absorption refrigeration cycle use sewage as a cooling water for the absorber and condenser, and absorption refrigeration cycle does that as a chilled water for the evaporator of the first stage cycle. And the two-stage cycle consists of coupling double-effect with parallel and single effect cycle so that the first stage absorber and condenser produces heating water to evaporate refrigerant in the evaporator of the second stage. The effects of operating variables such as a absorber temperature on the coefficient of performance have been studied for absorption refrigeration and heat pump cycle.
