High-speed/high-accuracy control of robot manipulator becomes more and more stringent because of the external disturbance and nonlinear characteristics. To meet this ends, lots of control strategies were proposed in the past such as the computed torque control, the nonlinear decoupled feedback control, and adaptive control. These control methods need computations of the inverse dynamics and require much computational effort. Recently, a disturbance observer with unmodeled robot dynamics and simple algorithms to motion control have been widely studied. This paper proposes a motor control strategy based on the disturbance observer which estimate the disturbance of each joint from input-output relationship of the actuator and eliminate the estimated disturbance including the torque due to modeling errors, coupling force, nonlinear friction, and so on. To apply the disturbance observer to closedloop system like velocity servo pack, the modified control structure was constructed and shown that it is equivalent to a disturbance observer in open-loop system. Finally, using the proposed approach, simulation and experiments were carried out for a two-degree-of-freedom SCARA type direct drive robot, and show some results to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

The control performance of a vehicle installed with an MR(magnetorheological) fluid-based damper is investigated on the basis of Herschel-Bulkley shear model. Generally, most of MR fluid damper has been analyzed based on a simple Bingham-plastic shear model. However, the Bingham-plastic shear model can not well describe the behavior of the damper on the condition of high velocity and high current field input. Therefore, in this study, the Herschel-Bulkley shear model in which the constant post-yield plastic viscosity in Bingham model is replaced with a power law model dependent on shear rate is used to assess control performance of a vehicle with MR fluid damper suspension system. This study deals with a two-degree-of-freedom suspension using the MR fluid damper for a quarter car model. The response for the bump input to identify the fastness of MR fluid damper embedded skyhook controller and requested magnetic field are investigated.
Conventional researches almost have been focused on the one dimensional inverted pendulum. Recently, Sprenger et al[2] have researched a two dimensional inverted pendulum Observing human's action to control an inverted pendulum, one can recognize that human uses a three dimensional metier including the up and down motion. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy logic controller(FLC) of a new three dimensional inverted pendulum system. We derive a dynamic equation of the mechanism including a 3-axis cartesian robot and a inverted pendulum. We propose a design method of a fuzzy controller of the yaw and pitch angles of a inverted pendulum. In the design, the redundant degree-of-freedom(DOF) of the robot ...
This paper describes platform overview, system integration and dynamic walking control of the humanoid robot, KHR-2 (KAIST Humanoid Robot - 2). We have developed KHR-2 since 2003. KHR-2 has totally 41 DOF (Degree Of Freedom). Each arm including a hand has 11 DOF and each leg has 6 DOF. Head and trunk also has 6 DOF and 1 DOF respectively. In head, two CCD cameras are used for eye. In order to control all joints, distributed control architecture is adopted to reduce the computation burden of the main controller and to expand the devices easily. The main controller attached its back communicates with sub-controllers in real-time by using CAN (Controller Area Network) protocol. We used Windows XP as its OS (Operating System) for fast development of main control program and easy extension of peripheral devices. And RTX, HAL(Hardware Abstraction Layer) extension program, is used to realize the real-time control in Windows XP environment. We present about real-time control of KHR-2 in Windows XP with RTX and basic walking control algorithm. Details of the KHR-2 are described in this paper.

The objective of this paper is to present trajectory guidance and control system with a dynamic inversion for a small unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The UAV model is expressed by fixed-mass rigid-body six-degree-of-freedom equations of motion, which include the detailed aerodynamic coefficients, the engine model and the actuator models that have lags and limits. A trajectory is generated from the given waypoints using cubic spline functions of a flight distance. The commanded values of an angle of attack, a sideslip angle, a bank angle and a thrust, are calculated from guidance forces to trace the flight trajectory. To adapt various waypoint locations, a proportional navigation is combined with the guidance system. By the decision logic, appropriate guidance law is selected. The flight control system to achieve the commands is designed using a dynamic inversion approach. For a dynamic inversion controller we use the two-timescale assumption that separates the fast dynamics, involving the angular rates of the aircraft, from the slow dynamics, which include angle of attack, sideslip angle, and bank angle. Some numerical simulations are conducted to see the performance of the proposed guidance and control system.

A broomstick swinging biped acrobatic controller is designed and simulated to show capability of the system of controllers: virtual model controller is employed for the robot\`s posture balancing control while a higher level fuzzy controller modulate the one of the virtual model controller\`s parameter for the pendulum swinging motion generation. The robot is of 7 degree-of-freedom, 8-link planar bipedal robot having two slim legs and a body. Each leg consists of a hip joint, a knee joint, an ankle joint and the body has a free joint at the top in the head at which a freely rotating broomstick is attached. We assume that the goal for the acrobat robot is to maintain a body balance in the sagittal plane while swinging up the freely up the freely rotating pendulum. We also assume that the actuators in the joints are all ideal torque generators. The proposed system of controllers satisfies the goal and the simulation results are presented.

As the need of electric motor is increased rapidly throughout our society, the various application fields are created and the service market called robot gets expanded as well as the existing industrial market. Out of those, the joint systems such as humanoid that is servo actuator for position control or all fields which require multi-degree of freedom (multi-DOF) require the development of innovative actuator. It is multi-DOF spherical motor that can replace the existing system in multi-DOF operating system. But, multi-DOF spherical motor that has been researched up to date is at the stage which is insufficient in performance or mechanical practicality yet. Thus, first of all the research results and limitation of the previously-researched guide frame-type spherical motors were analyzed and then the feature of double air-gap spherical motor which was devised to complement that was studied. The double air-gap multi-DOF spherical motor is very suitable spherical motor for system applying which requires the multi-DOF operation due to its simple structure that does not require other guide frame as well as performance improvement due to its special shape which has two air-gaps. So, the validity of the study was verified by designing and producing it with 3D-FEM through the exclusive jig for multi-DOF spherical motor.

This paper presents an asymptotic formation control scheme for a group of underactuated autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) where only three control inputs - surge force, yaw moment and pitch moment are available for each vehicle's six degree of freedom (DOF) underwater motion. Usually, the dynamics agents applied in most of the formation algorithms presented so far have been modeled as particle systems, which is a simple double-integrator system. Therefore, these algorithms cannot be directly applicable to the practical systems, especially to the underwater vehicles whose dynamics are highly nonlinear. Moreover, the vehicles considered in this paper are underactuated. The formation control is derived using general potential function method, and the corresponding potential function consists of two parts: interactions between vehicles and virtual-leader following. Proposed formation scheme guarantees asymptotic local stability of closed-loop system. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the effectiveness of proposed formation scheme.

In this paper, we propose a motion control scheme of robot manipulators based on visual feedback under camera-in-hand configuration. The desired joint velocity and acceleration for motion control is made by the feature-based visual data in the outer loop. The control input for tracking feature points on the image plane uses robot kinematics dynamic. The proposed control input consists of the image feature and the joint velocity error to achieve robustness to the parametric uncertainty. The stability of the closed-loop system is proved by Lyapunov approach. Computer simulations and experiments on a two degree of freedom manipulator with 5 links are presented to illustrate the performance of proposed control system.

In this research, three degree-of-freedom parallel spherical robot is developed for an artificial eyeball. The proposed system is comprised of a moving and a base plate, three prismatic actuators, and a ball joint for an angular movement of the moving plate. The vector analysis is employed to investigate the relationship between positions of the actuators and a pose of the moving plate. The required ranges for every actuators are calculated using the derived inverse kinematics in regard to the combination of two different levels for the size of the system component. Then the size of every components is determined from the analyzed trend. PI controller is employed for the position control of the moving plate. Finally the proposed system is verified using an arbitrary path of the angular movement.
