Numerical Analysis of a Flux-Reversal Machine with 4-Switch Converters

  • Many different converter topologies have been developed with a view to use the minimum number of switches in order to reduce construction costs. Among this research, the four-switch converter topology with a novel PWM control technique based on the current controlled PWM method is thought to be a good solution. In this paper, a two dimensional time-stepped voltage source finite-element method (FEM) is used to analyze the characteristics of a Flux-Reversal Machine (FRM) with a 4-switch converter. To validate the proposed computational method, a digital signal processor (DSP) installed controller and prototype FRM are built and experiments performed.

  • From numerical point of view on flow network system analyses, stagnation properties are not preserved along streamlines across geometric discontinuities. Hence, GJM and DTM using ghost cell and thermodynamic relations are developed to preserve the stagnation enthalpy for the boundaries, such as the interfaces between junction and branches and the interface between two pipes of different cross-sections in serial pipelines. Additionally, the resolving power and efficiencies of the 2nd order Godunov type FV schemes are investigated and estimated by the tracing of the total mechanical energy during calculating rapid transients. Among the approximate Riemann solvers, RoeM is more suitable with the proposed boundary treatments especially for junction than Roe's FDS because of its conservativeness of stagnation enthalpy across geometric discontinuities.

Estimation of Denominators- a New Approach for Calculating of Various Rates in Cancer Registries

  • In this study, cancer incidence data were assessed to provide various rates of five year age groups for a given year, lying between two census years. The individual exponential growth rate method is most useful in both population-based and non-population cased cancer registries in India to estimate the population by five yearly age groups and also find the rates of crude rates, age standard rates and cumulative rates. This method has been shown to endure from bias and often results sacrificing the overall growth rate and correction factor must be needful in five year age group population to maintain it. A second method, the difference distribution method is also able to maintain the overall growth rate and overcome the bias in estimation of five yearly age group populations. From this point of view these methods serving a new technique for population estimation by five yearly age groups for inter census years.

  • We investigate some operation characteristics and energy efficiency of the BLDC motor system driven by different two types power conversion method depends on same battery source for applying to electrical motor propulsion system of a small ship. Also, we suggest an estimation manner of operating performances such as total running distance and operating speed of ships from basic discharge voltage characteristics of batteries. Through some experiments, direct power conversion was better than indirect method on the view point of energy efficiency and the voltage discharge characteristics could be used as important design factor for estimating operating performances of small ships driven by electrical motors.

  • It is very difficult to execute the vibration analysis of a huge structure, which takes up much time and expense. In this paper we intend to make the equivalent system of a local vibration system of a huge structure with a view to improving the dynamic characteristics and reducing time and expense. First of all, upper deck structure model is maded. And we perform the vibration analysis by the Substructure Synthesis Method and execute the exciting test for the upper deck structure model, and observe the coincidences of two results to confirm the reliability of the analyzing tools used. To make the equivalent system, we give boundary condition to sub-structure that want to be modified and execute the Sensitivity Analysis Method and the Optimum Structural Modification Method. And we execute the structural modification of the equivalent system.

탄소배출권 경매할당의 방법론에 대한 효율성 비교: 단일가격 결정방식 vs. 복수가격 결정방식 (Comparison of Efficiency between Two Auction Designs for CO2 Emission Allowances : Uniform Pricing vs. Multiple Pricing)

  • 본 연구는 탄소배출권거래시 할당과 관련한 방법론 중 경매할당에 관한 연구로, 실험경제 방식을 이용하여, 가격결정방식간의 효율성을 비교하였다. 가격결정방식 중 단일가격 결정방식과 복수가격 결정방식에 대한 효율성을 비교하기에 앞서 무상할당, 일률배분 할당, 경매할당에 대한 배출권 가격분포를 분석함으로써, 경매할당이 불완전경쟁 체제하에서 시장수렴면에서 우월함을 입증하였다. Buckley et al.(2004) 연구에서 적용한 실험방식을 활용하여 거래상황을 설계하였으며, 실험결과, 단일가격 결정방식이 효율성 면에서 우월한 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 단일가격 결정방식은 시장참여자들이 승자의 저주(winner's curse)를 회피할 수 있기 때문에 시장참여자들이 보다 과감하게 입찰에 응함으로써, 배출권거래 운영자에게 한계저감비용에 대한 정보를 쉽게 노출시킨다는 점에서 거래운영을 용이하게 하는 이점이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나, 경매수익 면에서는 단일가격 결정방식이 복수가격 결정방식보다 우월하다는 결론을 내리기에는 통계적 유의성이 확보되지 않았다.

철학상담을 적용한 여성화병환자 사례보고 - 자아정체성에 기반한 철학상담을 중심으로 - (A Case Study of Philosophical Counseling of a Woman with Hwabyung - With a Philosophical Counseling Method Based on Self-Identity -)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this paper is to report the results of applying philosophical counseling to Hwabyung. Methods: At the time of the medical examination, 15 minutes or more of philosophical counselling method based on self-identity was conducted if possible. Additionally, We applied Hwabyung treatment guidelines (acupuncture, herbal medicine, etc.) to the patient If diagnosed as necessary. We evaluated visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Hwabyung scale, and Symptom Checklist 90-Revision (SCL 90-R) at baseline, and reassessed VAS and Hwabyung scale after about two weeks of treatments. Results: After about two weeks of treatment and philosophical counselling, VAS was between 10 to 1-2 and Hwabyung scale from 59 to 48. Also, the problem of fragmentation in the patient's life process was insighted, and the viewpoint was changed. Conclusions: It is useful to combine Korean traditional medical treatment with philosophical counselling method based on self identity for patients suffering from the Hwabyung. To Hwabyung patient, the view of philosophical counselling of feminism which understands women in political and cultural contexts is helpful.

Performance evaluation of an adjustable gantry PET (AGPET) for small animal PET imaging

  • A rectangular-shaped PET system with an adjustable gantry (AGPET) has been developed for imaging small animals. The AGPET system employs a new depth of interaction (DOI) method using a depth dependent reflector patterns and a new digital time pickoff method based on the pulse reconstruction method. To evaluate the performance of the AGPET, timing resolution, intrinsic spatial resolution and point source images were acquired. The timing resolution and intrinsic spatial resolution were measured using two detector modules and Na-22 gamma source. The PET images were acquired in two field of view (FOV) sizes, 30 mm and 90 mm, to demonstrate the characteristic of the AGPET. As a result of in the experiment results, the timing resolution was 0.9 ns using the pulse reconstruction method based on the bi-exponential model. The intrinsic spatial resolution was an average of 1.7 mm and the spatial resolution of PET images after DOI correction was 2.08 mm and 2.25 mm at the centers of 30 mm and 90 mm FOV, respectively. The results show that the proposed AGPET system provided higher sensitivity and resolution for small animal imaging.

The Effect of Personality on Psychological Responses Induced by Emotional Stimuli for Children

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to identify the relationship between personality and psychological responses induced by emotional stimuli (happiness, sadness, anger, boring and stress) for children. Background: Many researches are interested in assertion that there is close correlation between personality and emotion. The relationship between personality and emotion needs to be studied in view of the extended integration, not in view of respective property, because personality is deeply ingrained, and the relatively enduring patterns of thought, feeling and behavior and emotion can take advantage of individual differences in sensitivities to situational cues and predispositions to emotional state. In particular, studies on the personality and emotion for children are necessary in that childhood is an important period for formation of their personality and emotion expression and regulation. Method: Prior to the experiment, we made parents of 94 children rate personalities of their children, based on Korean Personality Inventory for Children (K-PIC). Results of 64 children without missing answers to all questions were analyzed. 64 children were exposed to five emotional stimuli and were asked to report the classification and intensity of their experienced emotion. Results: Children were classified into two groups of the lower 25% and higher 25% scores in twenty sub-scales of K-PIC, and psychological responses to five emotional stimuli between two groups were compared. Accuracy of emotion experienced by emotional stimuli showed a significant difference between the two groups, the lower and higher scores in Hyperactivity and Adjustment. Also, there was a significant difference in the intensity of experienced emotions between the two groups in Intellectual Screening and Psychosis. Conclusion: Our result has shown that hyperactivity, adjustment, intellectual screening and psychosis influence the accuracy and intensity of emotional responses. Application: This study can offer a guideline to overcome methodological limitation of emotion studies for children and help researcher basically understand and recognize human emotion in HCI.
