For the first time, two-dimensional temporal behavior of the edge localized mode (ELM) filament is measured in the edge tokamak plasma with a multi-channel electrical probe array (MCEP). MCEP, which has 16 floating probes (4 × 4), is mounted at the far scrape-off layer (SOL) region in the KSTAR. An electron temperature and an ion flux are measured by sideband method (SBM), which can achieve two-dimensional measurements with high time resolution. Furthermore, temporal evolutions of the electron temperature and the ion flux are obtained during the ELM occurrence. In the H-mode period, short spikes from ELM bursts are observed in measured plasma parameters, and the trend is similar to that of typical Hα signal. Interestingly, when blob-like ELM filaments crash the probe, the heat flux is significantly higher in a local region of the probe array. The results show that our probe array using the SBM can measure the ELM behavior and the plasma parameters without the effect of the stray current caused by the huge device. This study can provide valuable data needed to understand the interaction between the SOL plasma and the plasma facing components (PFCs).

In this paper, we investigate the frequency domain channel estimation for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) single-carrier frequency-division multiple-access (SC-FDMA) systems. In MIMO SC-FDMA, code-division multiplexed (CDM) pilots such as cyclic-shifted Zadoff-Chu sequences have been adopted for channel estimation. However, most frequency domain channel estimation schemes were developed based on frequency-division multiplexing of pilots. We first develop a channel estimation error model by using CDM pilots, and then analyze the mean-square error (MSE) of various minimum MSE (MMSE) frequency domain channel estimation techniques. We show that the cascaded one-dimensional robust MMSE (C1D-RMMSE) technique is complexity-efficient, but it suffers from performance degradation due to the channel correlation mismatch when compared to the two-dimensional MMSE (2D-MMSE) technique. To improve the performance of C1D-RMMSE, we design a robust iterative channel estimation (RITCE) with a frequency replacement (FR) algorithm. After deriving the MSE of iterative channel estimation, we optimize the FR algorithm in terms of the MSE. Then, a low-complexity adaptation method is proposed for practical MIMO SC-FDMA systems, wherein FR is performed according to the reliability of the data estimates. Simulation results show that the proposed RITCE technique effectively improves the performance of C1D-RMMSE, thus providing a better performance-complexity tradeoff than 2D-MMSE.
The junction properties between the ferromagnet (FM) and two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) system are crucial to develop spin electronic devices. Two types of 2DEG layer, InAs and GaAs channel heterostructures, are fabricated to compare the junction properties of the two systems. InAs-based 2DEG layer with low trans-mission barrier contacts FM and shows ohmic behavior. GaAs-based 2DEG layer with $Al_2O_3$ tunneling layer is also prepared. During heat treatment at the furnace, arsenic gas was evaporated and top AlAs layer was converted to aluminum oxide layer. This new method of forming spin injection barrier on 2DEG system is very efficient to obtain tunneling behavior. In the potentiometric measurement, spin-orbit coupling of 2DEG layer is observed in the interface between FM and InAs channel 2DEG layers, which proves the efficient junction property of spin injection barrier.

This paper has presented doping profile dependent threshold voltage for DGMOSFET using analytical transport model based on Gaussian function. Two dimensional analytical transport model has been derived from Poisson's equation for symmetrical Double Gate MOSFETs(DGMOSFETs). Threshold voltage roll-off is very important short channel effects(SCEs) for nano structures since it determines turn on/off of MOSFETs. Threshold voltage has to be constant with decrease of channel length, but it shows roll-off due to SCEs. This analytical transport model is used to obtain the dependence of threshold voltage on channel doping profile for DGMOSFET profiles. Also we have analyzed threshold voltage for structure of channel such as channel length and gate oxide thickness.

The electrical characteristics of CMOS inverter with LDMOSFET are studied for high power and digital circuit application by using two dimensional MEDICI simulator. The simulation is done in terms of voltage transfer characteristic and on-off switching properties of CMOS inverter with variation of channel length and channel doping levels. The channel which surrounds a junction-type source in LDMOSFET is considered to be an important parameter to decide a circuit operation of CMOS inverter. The digital logic levels of input voltage show to increase with increase of n-channel length and doping levels while the logic output levels show to the almost constant.

Experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of the initial turbulent intensity on the flow and heat transfer characteristics for a two-dimensional impinging jet. A square rod was installed at the nozzle exit to increase initial turbulent intensity. A hot wire probe and thermochromic liquid crystal technique were used to measure the turbulent intensity and the surface temperature. All measurements were made over a range of nozzle-to-plate distance from 1 to 10 at Re=20,000. When the rod is not installed, the maximum stagnation point Nusselt number is occurred at H/B=9. A higher initial turbulent intensity enhanced the heat transfer on the surface. A correlation between stagnation point Nusselt number and turbulent intensity are presented.

In volume holographic memory (VHM), two-dimensional data array (i.e. data page) is used for the recording and the retrieving process with the aid of spatial light modulator (SLM) and CCD camera. Due to this two-dimensional parallel data processing, burst errors in this system also have two-dimensional characteristics in a data page domain. In this paper, we present a channel model of the burst noise and burst error for the VHM system using disk type recording media. (omitted)

Due to the limitations of the channel length, the lateral spread for two-dimensional impurity distributions is critical for the analysis of devices including the integrated complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) circuits and high frequency semiconductor devices. The developed codes were then compared with the two-dimensional implanted profiles measured by transmission electron microscope (TEM) as well as simulated by a commercial TSUPREM4 for verification purposes. The measured two-dimensional TEM data obtained by chemical etching-method was consistent with the results of the developed analytical model, and it seemed to be more accurate than the results attained by a commercial TSUPREM4. The developed codes can be applied on a wider energy range $(1KeV{\sim}30MeV)$ than a commercial TSUPREM4 of which the maximum energy range cannot exceed 1MeV for the limited doping elements. Moreover, it is not only limited to diffusion process but also can be applied to implantation due to the sloped and nano scale structure of the mask.

Experiment and three dimensional numerical investigations of incompressible turbulent flow through square channels with one- and two-sided ribbed walls are performed to determine pressure drop and heat transfer. The CFX(version 5.7) software package is used for the computation. The ribbed walls have a $45^{\circ}$ inclined square rib. Uniform heat flux is maintained on whole inner heat transfer channel area. The numerical results coincide with experimental data that obtained for $7,600{\le}Re{\le}24.900$, the pitch-to-rib height ratio (p/e) of 8.0. and the rib height-to-channel hydraulic diameter ratio ($e/D_h$) of 0.0667. The results show that values of local heat transfer coefficient and friction factor in the channel with two-sided ribbed wall are higher than those in the channel with one-sided ribbed walls.
The three-dimensional Stokes flow within a staggered screw channel is obtained by using a finite volume method. The geometry is intended to mimic the single screw extruder having staggered arrangement of flights. The flow solution is then subjected to the analysis of the stirring performance. In the analysis of the stirring performance, the stretching-mapping method developed by the author is employed for calculating the materials' stretching exponents, which are to be used in quantification of the mixing effect. The numerical results Indicate that the staggered geometry gives indeed far much better stirring-performance than the standard (nonstaggered) flight geometry. It was also shown that care must be given to the selection of the basis planes for evaluating the local stretching rate, and it turns out that the best method (H-method) has its basis plane just on the half way between the past and future evolution of fluid particles subjected to the defromation. In evaluating the stretching exponent, the expansion ratio must be considered which is one of the characteristic differences of the actual three-dimensional flows from the two-dimensionmal counterparts. The larger axial pressure-difference causes in general the smaller stirring performance while the flow rate is increased. The smaller channel length also increases the stirring performance.
