  • The present paper aims to set forth a two-dimensional theory for the dynamics of plates that is valid over a large range of excitation. To construct a dynamic plate theory within the long-wavelength approximation, two dimensional-reduction procedures must be used for analyzing the low- and high-frequency behaviors under the dynamic variational-asymptotic method. Moreover, a separate and logically independent step for the short-wavelength regime is introduced into the present approach to avoid violation of the positive definiteness of the derived energy functional and to facilitate qualitative description of the three-dimensional dispersion curve in the short-wavelength regime. Two examples are presented to demonstrate the capabilities and accuracy of all of the formulas derived herein by using various dispersion curves through comparison with the three-dimensional finite element method.

  • When exact analytical solutions to certain type of heat conduction problems are quite cumbersome or not obtainable, it is important to introduce approximate analytical methods which are simple and useful compared with numerical methods. In this study, therefore, the Heat Balance Integral Method is applied to analysis of steady-state conduction in a straight fin of trapezoidal profile, and the two-dimensional temperature distribution in the fin and the approximate fin efficiency are obtained. Results are compared with those by the one- dimensional analysis and two-dimensional numerical analysis for a wide range of Biot numbers. It is shown that the two-dimensional temperature distribution obtained by the integral method is in good agreement with that by the finite element method at Biot numbers for which the result by the one-dimensional analysis is unreliable.

  • A speaker is a system which produces sound through electromechanical operations. It transforms electronic signals into audible sound signals. Almost all speakers are three dimensional. These days, many mobile electronic devices such as mobile electronic devices have become smaller and thinner. A problem with this miniaturization, however, is that the volume of speakers has also decreased. In contrast to conventional three dimensional speakers, we have invented a new type of two dimensional flexible speaker by utilizing the reverse piezoelectric effect.

  • A numerical scheme is proposed to obtain the individual stress intensity factors in an axisymmetric crack and in a three dimensional mixed mode crack. The method is based on the path independence of J and M integral and mutual or two-state conservation integral , which involves two elastic fields. Some numerical example are presented to investigate the effectiveness and applicability of the method for and axisymmetric crack and a three dimensional penny shaped crack problem under mixed mode.

  • In this paper, we consider a two-dimensional fractional space-time diffusion equation (2DFSTDE) on a finite domain. We examine an implicit difference approximation to solve the 2DFSTDE. Stability and convergence of the method are discussed. Some numerical examples are presented to show the application of the present technique.

  • Extreme value inference deals with fitting the generalized extreme value distribution model and the generalized Pareto distribution model, which are recently combined to give a single model, namely a two-dimensional non-homogeneous Poisson exceedance point process model. In this paper, we extend the two-dimensional non-homogeneous Poisson process model to include non-stationary effect or dependence on covariates and then derive the likelihood for the extended model.

  • A two-dimensional flow model is newly developed. Two-dimensional shallow-water equations are discretized by the finite volume method. A nonorthogonal coordinate system is then employed. The developed model is applied to simulations of flows in a 180 degree curved bend flow. Numerical prediction are compared to available laboratory measurement. A good agreement is observed.

  • We present a two dimensional linear programming knapsack problem with the extended GUB constraint. The presented problem is an extension of the cardinality constrained linear programming knapsack problem. We identify some new properties of the problem and derive a solution algorithm based on the parametric analysis for the knapsack right-hand-side. The solution algorithm has a worst case time complexity of order O($n^2logn$). A numerical example is given.

  • In the paper, we have studied on algorithms for two-dimensional positioning based on GPS pseudorange Technique. First, the linearized state equation was mathematically derived based on GPS pseudorange technique. Second, the geometry model with respect to triangles formed using unit-vectors were proposed for investigation of land-based radio positioning. Finally, the corresponding mathematical formulations for DOP values and covariance matrix were designed for two-dimensional positioning.

  • In this report, we propose a non-separable two-dimensional (2D) Lossless Wavelet Transform (LWT) for image compression. Filter characteristics of our proposed LWT are the same as those or conventional 2D LWT based on applying 1D LWT twice but our coding performance is better due to reduction of rounding effects. Simulation results confirm effectiveness of our proposed LWT.
